Ballad Of The Ladies Of Yore
Tell me where, in what country,
Is Flora the beautiful Roman,
Archipiada or Thais
Who was first cousin to her once,
Echo who speaks when there's a sound
On a pond or a river
Whose beauty was more than human?
But where are the snows of yesteryear?
Where is the leamed Heloise
For whom they castrated Pierre Abelard
And made him a monk at Saint-Denis,
For his love he took this pain,
Likewise where is the queen
Who commanded that Buridan
Be thrown in a sack into the Seine?
But where are the snows of yesteryear?
The queen white as a lily
Who sang with a siren's voice,
Big-footed Bertha, Beatrice, Alice,
Haremburgis who held Maine
And Jeanne the good maid of Lorraine
Whom the English bumt at Rouen, where,
Where are they, sovereign Virgin?
But where are the snows of yesteryear?
Prince, don't ask me in a week
or in a year what place they are;
I can only give you this refrain:
Where are the snows of yesteryear?

The Ballad of Dead Ladies
Tell me now in what hidden way is
Lady Flora the lovely Roman?
Where's Hipparchia, and where is Thais,
Neither of them the fairer woman?
Where is Echo, beheld of no man,
Only heard on river and mere--
She whose beauty was more than human?--
But where are the snows of yester-year?
Where's Heloise, the learned nun,
For whose sake Abeillard, I ween,
Lost manhood and put priesthood on?
(From Love he won such dule and teen!)
And where, I pray you, is the Queen
Who willed that Buridan should steer
Sewed in a sack's mouth down the Seine?--
But where are the snows of yester-year?
White Queen Blanche, like a queen of lilies,
With a voice like any mermaiden--
Bertha Broadfoot, Beatrice, Alice,
And Ermengarde the lady of Maine--
And that good Joan whom Englishmen
At Rouen doomed and burned her there--
Mother of God, where are they then?--
But where are the snows of yester-year?
Nay, never ask this week, fair lord,
Where they are gone, nor yet this year,
Except with this for an overword--
But where are the snows of yester-year?

Ballade Of Dead Ladies
Nay, tell me now in what strange air
The Roman Flora dwells to-day.
Where Archippiada hides, and where
Beautiful Thais has passed away?
Whence answers Echo, afield, astray,
By mere or stream,--around, below?
Lovelier she than a woman of clay;
Nay, but where is the last year's snow?
Where is wise Heloise, that care
Brought on Abeilard, and dismay?
All for her love he found a snare,
A maimed poor monk in orders grey;
And where's the Queen who willed to slay
Buridan, that in a sack must go
Afloat down Seine,--a perilous way -
Nay, but where is the last year's snow?
Where's that White Queen, a lily rare,
With her sweet song, the Siren's lay?
Where's Bertha Broad-foot, Beatrice fair?
Alys and Ermengarde, where are they?
Good Joan, whom English did betray
In Rouen town, and burned her? No,
Maiden and Queen, no man may say;
Nay, but where is the last year's snow?
ENVOY.
Prince, all this week thou need'st not pray,
Nor yet this year the thing to know.
One burden answers, ever and aye,
'Nay, but where is the last year's snow?'

When It Rains It Snows
Theres a knock at the door that I adore
Theres a face at the window, a smiling yellow face
Theres a knock at the door
And if I were at home theyd find me there
Theres a note on the door that I would see
And the furnitures barely been moved from where it was
Theres a note on the door
And the note would say when it rains it snows
When it rains it snows, I wonder why
And now I know that when it rains it snows
Theres a nut with a shotgun bang bang bang
Theres a doctor, a waitress, a fireman with a hat
Theres a nut with a gun
Theres enough so theyll never know which one
When it rains it snows, I wonder why
And now I know that when it rains it snows

Snow
Snows! Snows!
Far from me.
Snows! Snows!
Around me.
Now...she, 'A Snow'
Deep in my soul.
Like a thorn in the shoe
That snow makes me fool
By giving dreams poisonous
Beset with long kisses.
Highest degree
More than to be crazy
Be looked into and asked about
With a hopeful doubt.
Sure, it is!
New corner within heart,
Love! ! !
How should I do?
Not ready for heartbeat yet.
Eagerly gaze her face.
Immediately my pride damage.
Coax my heart, and
Keep it in the dark.
Who knows? Who sees?
She's in breathing breeze.
Dare to feel sorrowful.
Would be truthful.
Let me fly to my goal
With missing smiles for evermore.
Snow! Snow! ! !

Till It Snows In Mexico
(gordon payne, roger lavoie)
Riding up in oklahoma
People call us blind
cause we believe in God and love
And old fashioned things
We still draw the line between wrong and right
And when a woman takes a husband its for life
We met on a road from tulsa
Travelers in the night
Well I knew we belong together
It just felt so right
Theres something about this gal you ought to know
Shes gonna love you
Till it snows in mexico
Chorus:
Im gonna love you
Till it snows in mexico
Or till the rio grande freezes over
Cause darling when God made our love
He threw away the mold
And Im gonna love you
Till it snows in mexico
If you should ever leave me
Heaven forbid
But you dont have to worry none
About me ?
You know exactly where Ill go
Ill be waiting for the snow in mexico
Repeat chorus
Cause darling when he made our love
He threw away the mold
Im gonna love you
Till it snows in mexico

Abelard and Heloïse
["There are so many things I want to talk to you about." Abelard probably said to Heloïse, "but how can I when I can only think about kissing you?" --KATHARINE LANE in the Evening Mail.]
Said Abelard to Heloïse:
"Your tresses blowing in the breeze
Enchant my soul; your cheek allures;
I never knew such lips as yours."
Said Heloïse to Abelard:
"I know that it is cruel, hard,
To make you fold your yearning arms
And think of things besides my charms."
Said Abelard to Heloïse:
"Pray, lets discuss the Portuguese;
Their status in the League of Nations.
. . . . Come, slip me seven osculations.
"The Fourteen Points," said Heloïse,
"Are pure Woodrovian fallacies."
Said Abelard: "Ten times fourteen
The points you have, O beaucoup queen!"
"Lay off," said Heloïse, "all that stuff.
I've heard the same old thing enough."
"But," answered Abelard, "your lips
Put all my thoughts into eclipse."
"O Abelard," said Heloïse,
"Don't take so many liberties."
"I do it but to show regard."
And Heloïse told her chum that night
That Abelard was Awful Bright;
And--thus is drawn the cosmic plan--
She loved an Intellectual Man.

I Remember the Snows in the Summer's Light
I remember the snows in the summer's light
Thinking of winter in summer;
When I see the blue, I see white;
I see the fume over roofs so bright,
Feel the warm air caressed by azure,
I remember the snows in the summer's light.
Summers are lazy in my inner sight,
Winters, lazy on the outside, are sure to secure
The blue when I sense the cold of white.
Winter takes me on a summer's flight
To visit the summer and endure
Snows and remember the light.
Perhaps I like spring and fall best,
But winter is spring in summer to allure
Me to feel the fall and see blue in white.
I keep remembering, seeing the bright;
Everything is just a thought you conjure;
I always remember the snows hiding in the light;
When I see the blue, I also see the white.

Sometimes It Snows In April (The Art Of Musicology Special)
Tracy died soon after a long fought civil war
Just after I wiped away his last tear
I guess he's better off than he was before
A whole lot better off than the fools he left here
I used 2 cry 4 Tracy cause he was my only friend
Those kind of cars don't pass U every day
I used 2 cry 4 Tracy cause I wanted 2 see him again
But sometimes, sometimes life ain't always the way
Sometimes it snows in April
Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad
Sometimes I wish that life was never ending
And all good things, they say, never last
Springtime was always my favorite time of year
A time 4 lovers holding hands in the rain
Now springtime only reminds me of Tracy's tears
Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain
He used 2 say so strong, Oh, I'm not afraid 2 die
Unafraid of the death that left me hypnotized
U know, staring at his picture I realize
No one could cry the way my Tracy cried
Sometimes it snows in April
Sometimes I feel so bad, yeah
Sometimes, sometimes I wish that life was never ending
But all good things, they say, never last
I often dream of heaven and I know that Tracy's there
I know that he has found another friend
Maybe he's found the answer 2 all the April snow
Maybe one day I'll see my Tracy again
Sometimes it snows in April
Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad
Sometimes I wish that life was never ending
But all good things, they say, never last
But all good things, they say, never last
And love, it isn't love until it's past

My valentine’s day
Like the sunshine of early morning
my love for you is still hot
My days of the teenager hold me tight
When love in my mind was there
it reminds me the happy Valentine’s day beginning
While winter starts to chill
Inhale cold through the fresh air.
Still you stand in the snows
That made you know
my love still there for you
Quietly I hold you in hands
And climb over the big snows
To write: “My Valentine’s day forever”

Hard, Hard Year
(ransford)
Bad times, somethings wrong
Moneys gone, Im on my own
Cant stay, theres nothing here
Its been a hard, hard year
First month, snows came
Put me in bed, couldnt work the same
Jobs gone, bills are here
Been a hard, hard year
I look on the bad side of life
I lose heart then I want to die
So Ive got to get back on my feet
And prove to myself Im a man
I hope that the bad times are gone
Its been work, but I think that Ive won
Now Im happy
And Ill never be that way again
No, Ill never be that way again
Snows gone, springs here
Wont happen twice, Ive seen my way clear
Everyones paid, got no one to fear
Been a hard, hard year

Ode to a Frozen Timepiece
I.
Funny now, the painted scenes of love abound
That stricken tick, persistent, pleasing measure
Done its final dance around, and now its final sound
To hills of shadows passing, glinting skies to eyes azure
II.
To you, my darling dove, oh tattered queen of yesteryear
There is no harsher justice, as the mountain snows recede
Possessed are we of sweet decrees, those locks of album hair
Cold and unforgiving Mistress, marking moments - do proceed
III.
Funny how the autumn leaves play floating in the valley stream
When yesterday they reached majestic to the thin and wispy sky
The dawn that was forever yields herself her precious time
As one-by-one our friends resign to overtones of where they lie
IV.
To the point of conversation, to the strange, conjunctive bind
We find ourselves, then lose ourselves, and labor, circle-wise
This journey, but a moving picture, lost upon us, dumb and blind
Anchored fast to harbor bottoms as the seas begin to rise
V.
Funny vow, to promise time through sick and harvest thin
When it has frozen to the maize and barley, dearest sleepy one
Peel-by-peel the onion skin reveals each act of grace and sin
Until the tick of halted hands surcease the setting sun

Remember When I Gave You That Rose?
Remember
Those times of yesteryear?
Remember
That night I held you near?
Remember
How we were so close?
Remember
That song we always chose?
Remember
The way we shared our mind?
Remember
How we were one of a kind?
Remember
Those words you spoke to me?
Remember
How clearly we would often see?
Remember
Your beauty and escentric pose?
remember
When I gave you that rose?

Dont Look Back
Dont look back to the days of yesteryear,
You cannot live on in the past,
Dont look back.
And Ive known so many people
That still try to live on in the past,
Dont look back, oh no.
And if I could call back all those days of yesteryear,
I would never grow old and Id never be poor,
But darlin, those days are gone, oh yeah.
Stop dreaming
And live on in the future,
But darlin, dont look back, oh no,
Dont look back, oh ?

Mae Marsh, Motion Picture Actress
I
The arts are old, old as the stones
From which man carved the sphinx austere.
Deep are the days the old arts bring:
Ten thousand years of yesteryear.
II
She is madonna in an art
As wild and young as her sweet eyes:
A frail dew flower from this hot lamp
That is today's divine surprise.
Despite raw lights and gloating mobs
She is not seared: a picture still:
Rare silk the fine director's hand
May weave for magic if he will.
When ancient films have crumbled like
Papyrus rolls of Egypt's day,
Let the dust speak: "Her pride was high,
All but the artist hid away:
"Kin to the myriad artist clan
Since time began, whose work is dear."
The deep new ages come with her,
Tomorrow's years of yesteryear.

There Was a Cherry-Tree
There was a cherry-tree. Its bloomy snows
Cool even now the fevered sight that knows
No more its airy visions of pure joy --
As when you were a boy.
There was a cherry-tree. The Bluejay sat
His blue against its white -- O blue as jet
He seemed there then!-- But now -- Whoever knew
He was so pale a blue!
There was a cherry-tree -- our child-eyes saw
The miracle:-- Its pure white snows did thaw
Into a crimson fruitage, far too sweet
But for a boy to eat.
There was a cherry-tree, give thanks and joy!--
There was a bloom of snow -- There was a boy --
There was a bluejay of the realest blue --
And fruit for both of you.

Whisper My Name
Travel with me if you choose
Into a land of notions
Through the ruins of yesteryear
Set yer mind in motion
Be beside me win or lose
I will no forsake thee
I must do, so must you
Now will you go with me
I will build a home for you
To keep you warm each winter
Lemon lilies at your door
To give you in september
I will take you as you stand
I promise to defend thee
I must do, so must you
Now will you go with me
Whisper my name as you pass through my life
Whisper my name when you fall
Im just a dusty old memry ya trust
Ill be close by when you call
Give and take aint always so
Seeing is believing
Down and out dont stop the show
Staying is not leaving
What we say aint always so
But I wont deceive thee
I must do, so must you
Now will you go with me
Talk to me, run to me, whisper my name
Dont waste your love makin friends
Weve both had enough of that wonderful stuff
Its too easy to sin
Travel with me if you choose
Into a land of notions
Through the ruins of yesteryear
Set yer mind in motion
Be beside me win or lose
I will no forsake thee
I must do, so must you
Now will you go with me
Travel with me if you choose
I promise to protect thee
I must do, so must you
Now will you go with me
Now will you go with me
