A lonely box of clustered hopes,
chattered to ruins and groping still,
Searching the dark to what might lost,
A pensive relieve upon my grieve,
That time upon this quest might pend,
To sustain this gleam of hope,
from the dusky crater,
That the shadows from their slumber state might rise,
to tell this tale,
Of a lonely heart in shadowed box.

As the midnight fades in boys town
And the hustle stops to glow
This urban landscape sprawls before me
And the hunger starts to grow
But something more than my daddy showed to me
How he wanted to make a man of me
Living in the lonely cities of the heart
Hiding in the shadows and searching in the dark
My mama reads me like an open book
She knows when Im up or down
But every night I stay longer
In the creole part of town
Something more than what the good lord gave to me

Moments of despair

I always said I was biding my time

You see the way she looked
when father died.
That lost
in a dark maze gaze;
that emptied
of being stare,
still there
years later
as could be expected
of a devoted wife.
Could see
in her eyes
worlds set ablaze
and burnt out
leaving just gutted ruins
where love had been
and lived and slept.
You see the way she studied
the roofs of houses
from her window
of her lonely room;
grey tiles and skies
with mists and gloom.
You see her now
mind gone
to dementia’s claim;
hardly remembering
a face or place or name;
but still that lost look
that drowning
in a maze of words
in some dark
