Ezra Pound

Simulacra

Why does the horse-faced lady of just the unmentionable age
Walk down Longacre reciting Swinburne to herself, inaudibly?
Why does the small child in the soiled-white imitation fur coat
Crawl in the very black gutter beneath the grape stand?
Why does the really handsome young woman approach me in Sackville Street
Undeterred by the manifest age of my trappings?

Walk Tall

Cant wait to see you say black is white
Cant wait to hear you
Tell me lies
Say it with flowers
But Id swallow too much pride
Stop counting the hours
till Im right there by your side
Walk tall
Ill never crawl to you
Walk tall
Not if you beg me to
Wishing and hoping
To see the light
Waiting and praying
It will be all right
Remember the days we spent
Just lying on your bed
Remember how crazy we went
Right out of our heads
Walk tall
Ill never crawl to you
Walk tall
Not if you beg me to
Walk tall
Ill never crawl to you
Walk tall
Not if you beg me to
Walk tall
Ill never crawl to you
Walk tall
Not if you beg me to

White Hat White Coat

To the late doug whalan.... from your daughter.....

White hat white coat and greying in hair
he would dance around the dance floor with plenty of flair

White hat white coat black pants to boot
the men would all say 'silly old coot'

Whitehat white coat and a big friendly smile
when he went to a dance he'd dress in style

White hat white coat and a beat in his feet
it's of to the dance and people to meet

White hat white coat and a scotch on the rocks he'd love to dance
and the men would all mock

White hat white coat asleep at the wheel
he's danced all night 'boy i know how he feels'

White hat white coat have been put to the test
it's time to go home for a well earned rest

White hat white coat clean shirt and socks too
he's all geard up and ready for round two

White hat white coat so tired and run down
close your eyes and dream of your nights on the town

White hat white coat you've seen better days
your torn around the edges and your starting to fray

White hat white coat the time's come for us to part
but always remember ' i love you with all my heart '

While I get a few coins from my pocket

Yesterday there were young black men
standing in underpants
at the Apies river
and they were busy
washing their clothes
in the dark brown water

In one of the remote corners
of Sunnyside
a big cardboard box stands
at a shop’s entrance
on the sidewalk
and I see an old white man and woman
crawling out of it one winter morning
and they have got a half white bread
that they share with a white and black fox terrier.

At shoprite in Voortrekker street
a young black man
tries to sell fake perfume
and wants to know nothing
about removing his head
from the car’s window.

I place his goods
next to my car’s door
and tell my darling
to close her window
while he walks round the car
to get him out of the car.

At a pick-a-pay
there’s a small white woman
that’s a car guard
and always helps politely
to get the bags into the boot.

Then I realised
that if you just look around
there are countless people,
that life bites into pieces
and I wonder where
everything in this country is going?

While I get a few coins from my pocket
out of my pocket,
I feel guilty
to live like a king
and to see
others struggle around me.

Two Shadows

Walking on the street,
and my two shadows walk beside me,
I walk while they crawl,
A distance apart, but they reside in me..
My two shadows walk beside me...

I am quiet and my shadows quieter,
One is black and the other lighter,
Difference b/w them can't be seen by eyes,
But if I only knew how to act wise,
'Coz I'm still confused which one to choose,
Is it better to burn or to diffuse,

I think and think and think,
and my shadows take a decision,
It's the end of the road,
and they merge into one,

Seems its better to carry the layers,
than fling the ashes,
It thickens the conscience when life crashes,

Now it's the end of the street,
Beside me.. my shadow still creeps,
I walk, it crawls,
I stand, it falls,
I believe in it and take it the air,
My life breathes.......

Walk Like A Man

I remember how rough your hand felt on mine on my wedding day
And the tears cried on my shoulder I couldnt turn away
Well so much has happened to me that I dont understand
All I can think of is being five years old following behind you at the beach tracing your footprints in the sand
Trying to walk like a man
By our lady of the roses we lived in the shadow of the elms
I remember ma draggin me and my sister up the street to the church whenever she heard those wedding bells
Well would they ever look so happy again the handsome groom and his bride
As they stepped into that long black limousine for their mystery ride
Well tonight you step away from me and alone at the alter I stand
And as I watch my bride coming down the aisle I pray for the strength to walk like a man
Well now the years have gone and Ive grown from that seed youve sown
But I didnt think thered be so many steps Id have to learn on my own
Well I was young and I didnt know what to do
When I saw your best steps stolen away from you
Now Ill do what I can
Ill walk like a man
And Ill keep on walkin

To make a man outta me

But most important of all
Let me tell ya
The lady's got balls
She's got balls
She's got soul my lady
Likes to crawl my lady
All around the floor on her hands and knees
Because she likes to please me

Come From Under the Trappings

Come from under the trappings.
Come from under your need,
To feed your gluttony.
Your needs to be strapped,
To that which can not touch you back!
Come from under the trappings!
There is much more to your life,
Than that!

Come from under the trappings.
Let your beliefs,
Remove the strangle hold and squeeze...
Placed upon the young.
Those that have followed you into darkness,
And have shielded from the Sun!
Those you have fed,
All the misdeeds...
That have blocked and shunned!
Come from under those trappings done.
They are shutting off your breath.
And speeding up your untimely death!

Come from under the trappings.
Come from under your need
To feed your gluttony.
Your needs to be strapped,
To that which can not touch you back!
Come from under the trappings!
There is much more to your life,
Than that!

You might as well!
They are being released from you physically!
Now...
It is time to remove yourself from that grind.
Come from under the trappings.
And find yourself that peace that awaits!
Those trappings can not define,
The quality of life when one has peace of mind!

Come from under the trappings.
Come from under your need
To feed your gluttony.
Your needs to be strapped,
To that which can not touch you back!
Come from under the trappings!
There is much more to your life,
Than that!

Orbison/dees
Coo coo, thats you, wonder why I love you, you do voodoo, thunder clouds above you
Crazy, kooky, lazy spooky, oh what a clown, always around
And I have found youre a woman. child woman. woman child
Long legged woman when I see you walking you look good
Hey little woman when I hear you talking you sound good
Child woman, woman child youre driving me wild child woman woman child
Youre into my mind then youre out of my mind child woman
You wind and unwind my mind, time after time child woman ooh child woman, yeah child woman
Flying uptight, dont know where youre going, trying your kite when the wind is blowing
Funny lady, sunny, shady off to the fair, sun in your hair
Oh, youre aware youre a woman child woman, woman child
Strong minded woman when you start groovin you look fine
My kind of woman when you start movin you look fine
Child woman, woman child youre driving me wild child woman woman child

Three Men Walking

Three men walking
Along the roadside
One after another
Wearing weird caps
In the dark

The town asleep
Some traffic
Street lights
And cold

Silhouettes
Trees
Roots whirling
Some visible others hiding
Some past events

The three men
Talking to themselves
And to each other too
Smell of hey
Some old friends

The three men
Still walking
One after another

A young boy
Runs past
All covered up
Without socks

A cat with long tail
And a dog
Waiting for something to eat
Common cause

The boy
Collects rotten fruit
In a bag
Whose cause?

The three men walking
A young girl
Beaten
Cries
Selling flowers
A man with a gun
A watchman
Destroys her flowers

Water
Red colored
And black too
Going down a small stream
Blood is red
And water black

The three men
Further, into the darkness of the streets
Their caps
Water enters the shoes
Cold water
And black water

And then into the restaurant
The three men
With weird caps
Some people in the restaurant
Long faced small faced
Tired and worried

The three men
Looking from above a cabin
Some boys
And burgers
Water and tea

A common cause

Shadowy nocturne

It is midsummer,
and the nights are hot.
Black horse is strolling along the lake,
trying to delve into another world.

Black horse is rather sad tonight,
the white horse is not following behind,
no one chats with it,
no one plays with it,
only its shadow follows it.

It stops.
looking at the lake quietly.
The moon,
falling on water,
makes it white, inscrutable,
giving the shadow a burnish and a silver plating.

The black horse,
it can not spend its life chasing after shadow,
no matter it is an anguish or elation,
it must have a brave act,
telling the white horse what you feel.

Me, Love, Them

LIKE a street drug, his poison
took, and took well, like a dull
knife, it cuts the skin, then
finds the blood, then soul.
OH fairy tales, take this child
in your hands,
OH fairy tales, let the white
horse come, and take this child
to a place called, me, love,
and them.
LIKE a street whore, this
man sells his body to the
dogs, the rich take what they
want, and the poor kick,
and kick, untill he finds his
way back home.
OH fairy tales, take this
child in your hands,

Amakeia then and now

If ever there were treason
against humanity,
the slaughter of the black woman Amakeia
trying to rescue
the life of the small white child
drives it to the point

Spears raining down
on a innocent woman and child
during the 1834 war
are images that stay
in with me
and I still feel my arm hairs rise,
while I see assegais glitter
in the sun
and a farmhouse
burning down to the ground
and know how much unreasonable hatred
the Maxosas had to have in their hearts
to kill a women and baby child
and even the elements
still try and lull the kid.

II

It’s in the middle of the day and criminals
stand at the door of a house,
as if no Police
or any security
can stop them.

They are armed with weapons of war
and no life
have any value to them
and to murder and rape
comes to them like second nature,
as if demons
are guiding their deeds.

Spare the child,
spare my life
the faithful nanny asks
with tears
running down her cheeks
and with her hands
are trying to protect the small child
and it’s a miracle
if the criminals
note what she says
and if the nanny and child
and are locked in a room
while the most valued things are taken.

The Street Only Knew Your Name

Your street, rich street or poor
You should always be sure of your street
There's a place in your heart,
When you know from the start
And you can't be complete without a street
Keep movin' on, just like a train
Sometimes you gotta look back to the street again
Would you prefer all those castles in spain
Or a view of the street from your window pane
When you were young, so young
So very very young
When you were young, so young
So very very young
And the street only knew your name
And the street only knew your name
And the street only knew your name, oh your precious name, precious name
There was walter and joy, kate and roy
All hung around the corner lamplight
Get together sing some songs
Like boppin' the blues - you make me feel alright
That was long before fortune and fame
No such thing as a star when you've played that game
Everyone knew who everyone was
There was no preference in the street no, no
When you were young, so young
So very very young
When you were young, so young
So very very young
And the street only knew your name
And the street only knew your name
And the street only knew your name, oh your precious name
And you walked around in the heart of town
Listening for that sound
And you walk around in the heart of town
Listening for that sound
Blue suede shoes, it was the blue suede shoes
When you were young, so young
So very very young
When you were young, so young
So very very young
And the street only knew your name
And the street only knew your name
And the street only knew your name
And the street only knew your name

Sketches For A Fine Day

actually i like the sound of
brooms sweeping the street today

a young girl
short for her age
and brown and
bow legged

does her assigned task in the street
gathering dead leaves

as i watch
it is a bright day

the street light is turned off

a young boy's hand is held by her mother
crossing the street
waiting for the school bus

a white dog pisses
on the side of the trunk of the
mahogany tree

a black car from the right side of the village
wheels its way towards the boulevard

a young woman with short blue jeans
jogs along the green valley

the sea is sky
blue and the sun slowly rises from the horizon

like a man's face peeping upon a table's edge
the long line of trees along the faded street

Japan

Today I pass the time reading
a favorite haiku,
saying the few words over and over.

It feels like eating
the same small, perfect grape
again and again.

I walk through the house reciting it
and leave its letters falling
through the air of every room.

I stand by the big silence of the piano and say it.
I say it in front of a painting of the sea.
I tap out its rhythm on an empty shelf.

I listen to myself saying it,
then I say it without listening,
then I hear it without saying it.

And when the dog looks up at me,
I kneel down on the floor
and whisper it into each of his long white ears.

It's the one about the one-ton temple bell
with the moth sleeping on its surface,

and every time I say it, I feel the excruciating
pressure of the moth
on the surface of the iron bell.

When I say it at the window,
the bell is the world
and I am the moth resting there.

When I say it at the mirror,
I am the heavy bell
and the moth is life with its papery wings.

And later, when I say it to you in the dark,
you are the bell,
and I am the tongue of the bell, ringing you,

and the moth has flown
from its line
and moves like a hinge in the air above our bed.

Czech Parade Horses

Many folks set proudly in costume
Upon their handsome horse
Putting us into another century
It’s the Czech parade, of course

A deep chocolate brown
A Palomino all golden and tall
Paints as well were collected
And, folks, that’s not even all

They all stood for the camera
Decorated brightly too
Like jewelry on a model
Spruced up for me and you

A white horse standing proudly
But he never would have reared
He matched his owner delightfully
Who had a great snow white beard

One horse had a lady riding
He stood tall and didn’t slump
But the funny thing about it was
There was a tablecloth on his rump

A lot of preparations were involved
Put through a regimented course
But we just loved every single
Gorgeous Czech parade horse!

Time Will Crawl

I've never sailed on a sea
I would not challenge a giant
I could not take on the church
Time will crawl
Till the 21st century lose

I know a government man
He was as blind as the moon
He saw the sun in the night
He took a top-gun pilot
He made him fly thru a hole
Till he grew real old
And he never came down
He just flew till he burst

Time will crawl till our mouths run dry
Time will crawl till our feet grow small
Time will crawl till our tails fall off
Time will crawl till the 21st century lose

I saw a black black stream
Full of white eyed fish
And a drowning man
With no eyes at all
I felt a warm warm breeze
That melted metal and steel
I got a bad migraine
That lasted three long years
And the pills that I took
Made my fingers disappear

Time will crawl
