Ezra Pound

Homage To Sextus Propertius - XI

1
The harsh acts of your levity!
Many and many.
I am hung here, a scare-crow for lovers.

2
Escape! There is, O Idiot, no escape,
Flee if you like into Ranaus,
desire will follow you thither,
Though you heave into the air upon the gilded Pegasean back,
Though you had the feathery sandals of Perseus
To lift you up through split air,
The high tracks of Hermes would not afford you shelter.

Amor stands upon you, Love drives upon lovers,
a heavy mass on free necks.

It is our eyes you flee, not the city,
You do nothing, you plot inane schemes against me,
Languidly you stretch out the snare
with which I am already familiar,

And yet again, and newly rumour strikes on my ears.

Rumours of you throughout the city,
and no good rumour among them.

'You should not believe hostile tongues.
'Beauty is slander's cock-shy.
'All lovely women have known this,'
'Your glory is not outblotted by venom,'
'Phoebus our witness, your hands are unspotted.

A foreign lover brought down Helen's kingdom
and she was led back, living home;
The Cytharean brought low by Mars' lechery
reigns in respectable heavens, . . .

Oh, oh, and enough of this,
by dew-spread caverns,
The Muses clinging to the mossy ridges;
to the ledge of the rocks:
Zeus' clever rapes, in the old days,
combusted Semele's, of Io strayed.
Oh how the bird flew from Trojan rafters,
Ida has lain with a shepherd, she has slept between sheep.

Even there, no escape
Not the Hyrcanian seaboard, not in seeking the shore of Eos.

All things are forgiven for one night of your games. . . .
Though you walk in the Via Sacra, with a peacock's tail for a fan.

From This City I Want To Escape (Free Verse Quatern)

From this city I want to flee,
to find a place of some solace,
not again I want to return,
where city lights sometimes blind people.

I still think about how it was,
from this city I want to flee,
I cannot fit in this anthill,
a bridge to escape, I must find.

The city makes me uneasy,
I want to wander on the beach,
from this city I want to flee,
I want to vanish by bus or train.

Now I splash in a city stream,
at times are in the open air,
about freedom I can just dream,
from this city I want to flee.

Rumour Has It

Spoken:
Rumour, rumour hear all about it
Rumour has it and i'm gonna shout it
Rumour, rumour hear all about it
Rumour has it and i have got to shout it
Thank you so much alright
Now i'll tell you what i heard
Rumour has it all around the town
Someone's looking for a girl like me
Where can she be found
I hope it's who i think it is
I wonder if it's really him
It's got to be the man i love
No one else but him
There's a rumour, rumour has it
There's a rumour
They say he's gonna make this girl his everything
He's gonna love her and surround her
With all those beautiful things
It was the most wonderful moment in my life i had
My life ended on that evening
I lost him, lord it hurt so bad
There's a rumour, rumour has it
There's a rumour
You never know just what you've won until you've lost
And the object of the game is not to pay the cost
Anyone can play the game, there are no rules
And you never know just what you've won until you lose
There's a rumour, there's a rumour
Rumour has it
There's a rumour, there's a rumour
Rumour has it, rumour has it
There's a rumour, there's a rumour
There's a rumour, such a rumour

Escape

Escape
Escape

That one word resonates in my mind

I need an escape a reprieve from
All this energy surrounding me

Escape
Escape

I want to be let out for awhile

To be free and alone
To do what I want without interference

Escape
Escape

I don't wanna hear arguing

Or little petty problems
I want to not have to do anything

Escape
Escape

I want to Escape

Escape

Paint on my cruel or happy face
I hide me behind it
It takes me inside another place where no-one can find it
Escape
I get out when I can
Escape
Anytime I can
Escape
I'm crying in my beer Escape
Just get me out of here
Don't get me wrong
Don't get me right
I'm not like you are
When I get home from work at night
I'm blacker and bluer
So I escape
I get out when I can
Escape
Anytime I can
Escape
I'm crying in my beer Escape
Just get me out of here
Where am I running to?
There's no place to go
Just put on my makeup and get me to the show
Yeah
Escape
My doctor said just come around
You'll be taken care of
And while he ran my problems down
I stole his mascara
That's how I escape
I get out when I can
Escape
Anytime I can
Escape
I'm crying in my beer Escape
Just get me out of here
Escape

Helen of Troy

A mythological beauty, she had been;
A legendary beauty, she had grown.
Who is it other than Helen of Troy,
The epitome of seductive beauty?

A symbol of man’s erotic desires,
From the other women, Helen differs
In that she never employed her charms
To gain power of self-aggrandizement.

Her era dates back to fifth century B.C.
The fairest of women had been the one
Whom all women should hate and yet envy,
And all men should fear and yet desire.

No wonder, men were captive of her charm,
But not was she captive of any man..
She had admirers; none did she admire.
Her fairness deserved more than what she got.

A puppet she was in the heavenly battle,
Where Greek Gods and Goddesses had sported.
As such, she must be absolved of the taints
She was attached with, sadistically.

Helen was the daughter of Zeus and Leda,
The Greek God and Goddess. Born of an egg,
And brought up by a shepherd, she became
The prince of Sparta, a kingdom’f the Greek.

At her age ten, Helen was kidnapped
By an Athenian Hero for her charm
And was, however, brought back unscathed
By her brother; so famous she became.

At Helen’s wedding, numerous suitors
From far and wide came to claim her fair hand.
They were made to swear an oath to defend
The chosen husband in the event of

A rival attempting to abduct Helen,
The beauty who bred danger where she trod.
The oath assumed a greater importance
In the development of the Trojan War.

Helen was married to Menelaus,
A warrior, on his highest offerings.
On king’s death, he became the king of Sparta.
Helen bore a daughter; nine years rolled.

Paris, a Trojan Prince, came to Sparta
To marry Helen, whom he had been promised
By Aphrodite, after he had chosen her
As the fairest of all the goddesses

So that she could claim the golden apple
Thrown by the Goddess, Eris, from anger
Of not being invited by King Peleus
For his marriage to Sea Nymph Thetis.

Once Paris arrived in the house,
And Menelaus was fated to leave it,
Helen eloped with Paris to Trojan.
The war broke, all suitors participated

The war lasting for over nine years,
Helen lived these years as a willing captive,
More to the design of Aphrodite.
It is unfair to brand her as unfaithful..

The end of the war was brought about
Through the Trojan horse built and left ashore,
With their heroes hidden in it. The foes
Drew the horse into the fort for their fate.

The heroes sacked the city and captured
And caged the fairest queen to her shame.
The Greeks and the Trojans despised her alike.
No woman of her status could be that worst.

Menelaus was to slay his faithless wife.
As he raised his sword, , she dropped her robe
From her shoulders, revealing her assets.
It made him let the sword dropp from his hand.

Helen defied Aphrodite to remain
With Paris, who was soon to meet his death.
Her woes about her hasty decision
To leave Sparta and her spouse crippled her.

‘I will not serve his bed since the Trojan women
Hereafter would laugh at me, all, and my heart
Even now is confused with sorrow’
Helen lamented thus to Aphrodite.

Helen returned as the queen of Sparta.
Chastity, outraged, could be recovered;
Women are resilient, given a chance.
Helen is a proof for all men to note.

How Helen looked, no clues;
Yet her name has power
To inflame men’s heart, ho!

Exchanging smiles and glances,
Just by to take my chances

Night, bring me my lover
Youre the living cruel
To satisfy each other, thats the loving truth
One day is all I want belong to ? baby
Thats the way I found you, lover?
Each other
Nights brought us one another
Night bring me my lover, night

Lovers On A Beach

Written by ricky & marty wilde
Lovers on a beach
Lovers on a beach
Two naked hands lay on the sand
When all the world was out of reach
Through the shuttered doors
The music filtered through
Playing on a theme that couldnt run
Lovers on a shore
Lovers on a shore
The heavy wine of broken time
But now theyre gone its nothing more
Looking back on days
When summer seemed so long
Now theres only winter nights to come
And oh - sometimes shes missing you
She hears the shore
She feels it more
And out there the waves are breaking
Back here her heart is aching
Lovers on a beach
Lovers on a beach
Two silhouettes were on a shore
But now theyre lost and out of reach
Now on lonely roads
The flashbacks lead to you
Like a faded photograph in time
Oh lovers (lovers, lovers, lovers, lovers...)
And oh just as shes missing you
She hears the shore
She feels it more
And out there the waves are breaking
Back here her heart is aching
Lovers on a beach
Lovers on a beach
Two naked hands theyre on the sand
When all the world was out of reach
Lovers on a beach
Lovers on a beach
Lovers
Lovers
Lovers on a beach
Lovers
Lovers
Lovers

I did escape
from concrete buildings,
I did escape
and want to go back to the country,
I will never go back if I can,
I want to stretch out somewhere in the sun;
I did escape …

I Cant Escape

This song appears on two albums, and was first released on the one world album. it has also been released on the country roads collection album.
Funny thing about this little heart of mine
All the ways that it can say
(I love you)
Longer than forever
Till the end of time
No matter baby come what may
(I love you)
Look at me now sittin all by myself
Face another sleepless night all alone
All I look forward to is lying here living this song
I cant escape thinking every day about you
Cant escape wishing dear you were still mine
Cant escape thinking maybe I still love you
Cant escape caring for you all of the time
Listen to the music on the radio
Top forty hits of yesterday
(I love you)
Leavin on a jet plane
Blowin in the wind
The silly games that people play
(I love you)
Each of them carries your memory still
I can still see that look in your eyes
The one that preceded your kisses and followed your sighs
I cant escape thinking every day about you
Cant escape wishing dear you were still mine
Cant escape thinking maybe I still love you
Cant escape caring for you all of the time
Every rain in the morning reminds me of you
Every night when its cold outside
Every time that I ache inside
(I love you)
(I love you)
Sometimes I wish it was ten years ago
We were starting all over again
Yet the way that I feel is much more than just remembering when
I cant escape thinking every day about you
Cant escape wishing dear you were still mine
Cant escape thinking maybe I still love you
Cant escape caring for you all of the time
All of the time
All of the time

Now Going Back To A Little Seriousness About Life

i have give you a list of games
a to z, back to z then a, and you gape at me
unable to believe,
finding it so hard to believe that in the middle of the city
during a blackout i can be
another black dog with eyes gleaming like
a pen light roaming around
a black canvass inside the movie house
where each hungry city dweller is looking for
something to hold
to eat and puke.

now going back to where we once were,
we never made us
they made us to do things that we do not really do
the way we did it,
we are constrained to escape from the doorsteps
of restraint,
and be free birds, white
in visions, twittering on sky blue skies

now going back to what we are....
where are we really?

i am serious. Are we not lost?
in the middle of this darkness where we think we are no longer stars

I Will Escape

I will escape from the built-up city
To the countryside,
Where all around is so pretty
And the fields are green and wide.
I will escape from the traffics and smog
To the nature’s lyrics and a croaking frog.
I will escape from concrete and power lines
To the breathtaking lights and signs,
To the place where field bells ring
And free birds merrily sing;
To the forest where trees are attractive
And are not a city’s captive.
I will listen to the voice of nature
And my life will be a great adventure.
I will walk barefoot to feel the land,
I will touch a stream with my hand.
My joy will have no measures,
Knowing that the world is full of treasures.
I will escape from the bustle of the city
To the wildflowers which look so friendly,
Where the sky is so bright and clean
And I feel myself like in a dream.
And when the night comes,
The starry sky has so much charms,
An internal balance will feel my heart
As our Earth’s nature is really smart.

Run! Escape!

(Written when the media broke the news of police brutality at Pindi Battian in presence of M.P.A.)

O! My poor people,
Run, run, and run!
Escape, escape, and escape!
Escape to the oceans to dwell
In the abyss of waters,
Amid the unexplored rocks,
And devouring monsters.
Escape to the African Forests
Live amid wolves, dogs and dragons.
Escape to the snow-clad region
Of Himalayan Mountains,
Or to the frozen poles of the Earth.
Escape to the Mars or Moon
Or to the Sun: the parent origin
Of the revolving world.
Escape to the canyons,
Or the spots where the Earth is gaped;
For now in my hard-earned country
Ear-banged Democracy governs,
With the assistance of twin Gentle Sisters,
Villaino-cracy and Policeo-cracy.

Lovers Walk

I wont walk with my head bowed
(be on) beyond caution where lovers walk
My love walks where threes a crowd
Beyond caution where lovers walk
Lovers walk, lovers scramble
Beyond caution where the lovers walk
Lovers step, shuffle and gamble
Beyond caution where lovers walk
Lovers trip, lovers stumble
Lovers dip, lovers fumble
Lovers lip where love has crumbled
Beyond caution where lovers walk
Lovers strut, lovers stroll, lovers leap
Lovers late, lovers wait
Making promises that they cant keep
Lovers link up arm and arm
Lovers slink up, lovers charm
Lovers drink up and come to harm
Beyond caution where lovers walk
Love is gone and its no ones fault
Love has stopped here, lovers halt
Lovers dont walk, lovers run
Will you look what love has done
Will you look what love has done
Will you look what love has done
Beyond caution where lovers walk
Now loves limping on a lovers crutch
Looking for a hand with a personal touch
Beyond caution where lovers walk

Setting Free The Little Black Bird...

and this i remember
when i was yet a young boy
in a far away village

i caught a black bird
in my handmade trap
and it was trying to
escape from the hold of
my hands,

at first i liked to bring it home
and show to father
but then i looked at its eyes
begging for mercy to be
set free

and i heeded to its flee
i released that little black bird free

it is the same now between me and my body
this trap and this soul that begs now to be set free
this little black bird begging for mercy
it shall be set free
that young boy understands
it is this body.

The Rumour

(elton john/bernie taupin)
This is the last time
Ill look across this table
And try to face a feeling I dont even recognize
This is a sad hand
That reached across and touched you
When all wed built around us came crashing to the ground
There was a tide turning
Somewhere deep inside us
When all these years together seem lost behind my tears
Oh there were good times
But in between the dog days
I felt the pain of rumour whisper in my ears
But I still tried to love you
I still tried to care
Still tried to hold on with the power of my prayers
But you cant fight the rumour
You cant argue with you heart, no
Once the rumour spreads, once the rumour spreads
Once the rumour spreads, the truth is just a thing of the past
As the rain falls
I listen to the radio
And try to memorize the words to georgia on my mind
But were no old song
We never stood the test of time
The lies inside the rumour left trust so far behind
But I still tried to love you
I still tried to care
Still tried to hold on with the power of my prayers
But you cant fight the rumour
You cant argue with you heart, no
Once the rumour spreads, once the rumour spreads
Once the rumour spreads, the truth is just a thing of the past
And when we say goodbye
Be sure to look me in the eye
And know the real secret
Was the thing we didnt have to hide
But I still tried to love you
I still tried to care
Still tried to hold on with the power of my prayers
But you cant fight the rumour
You cant argue with you heart, no
Once the rumour spreads, once the rumour spreads
Once the rumour spreads, the truth is just a thing of the past
Once the rumour spreads, once the rumour spreads
The truth is just a thing of, its just a thing of
The truth is just a thing of the past

Back In Town

Wheels turn - smoke rise
Chrome wings - low ride
Freeway - red line
To city lights electric I glide
If theres escape from your illusion
You gotta break the whole constitution
Concrete - touch sky
Main street - dogs lie
Steel bird - black tie
Is this what they call the freedom you buy?
Look at him behind the delusion
All you hear is the voice of confusion

The bad boys back
The bad boys back in town
The bad boys back
Dont you shoot him down
Wheels spin - ace high
No win - no life
One world - truth lies
Loves just a word on a red neon sign
If theres escape from the conclusion
You gotta shake the whole institution

If theres escape from your illusion
You gotta break the whole constitution

No-one

Key:-a - anita
R - ray
R: Ive been searching a long time and I just dont know
I try to catch solutions, I try to catch the flow
Thoughts running through my mind, maybe the man in the front, yo
Was the man from behind
Where is the place where I dont have to watch my back
When I can just go without protecting my sex
Will it come? no-one knows, hey yo. no-one knows
A: no-one can resist the desire
To escape to paradise
But it seems like theres nothing else to do
But to dream and fantasize
R: on and on to the break up comes
Uh uh uh cheer
No-one knows
R: you better recognize when I pass your way
Its the techno-rap singer by the name of ray
Can we compromise to have a better place
Can we reach the goal to have an equal race
So amazing how things change
But were growing up so it aint that strange
The inspiration comes through the nation
Will it last, no-one knows, no-one knows
A: no-one can resist the desire
To escape to paradise
But it seems like theres nothing else to do
But to dream and fantasize
A: escape to paradise
Dream and fantisize
Yeah
R: no-one knows, yo, will I know
Like janet jackson thats the way love goes
My minds playing tricks, theres no way out
No-one can hear you, not even if you shout
I feel the pressure, you can not measure
Time will tell, heaven or hell
How will the world survive nowadays
No-one knows, hey yo, no-one knows
A: no-one can resist the desire
To escape to paradise
But it seems like theres nothing else to do
But to dream and fantasize
A: no-one can resist the desire
To escape to paradise
But it seems like theres nothing else to do
But to dream and fantasize
A: hey hey hey hey
No-one knows!
Hey hey hey hey
No-one knows!!
Escape to paradise, yeah
Oh, oh, oh
No-one can resist the desire to escape to paradise!

The Daughter Of Zeus

One man's failure is another man's succedd!
You are the daughter of Zeus;
One man's downfall is another man's joy!
I am the son of Yahweh;
Football is to brazil as Baseball is to America! !
But, one man's meat is another man's poison.

Of a ripe old age,
Of the sweet of love with roses;
And like flowers for your lovers,
But, Paris is the land for the rich but not for the poor.

Take the sandals off from your feet!
For this place is a holy ground;
And like the muse of love in the City of Salt,
But, one man's faith is another man's worry.

In the City of Sugar!
In the City of Pepper!
In the City of Love;
Burt, hurt, curt, yurt! !
And like the message to my brothers and sisters.

Sonnet: An Invocation to God

God, free the bird that’s caught within brambles,
And save the lamb from wolf dressed in sheep-skin;
Rescue the man who takes drugs, kills, gambles;
Set free the souls that live in mortal sin.

God, save the sheep that strayed onto the ledge;
Bring back the prodigal son early home;
Allow the sick to touch your raiment’s edge,
And make the faithful walk upon the foam.

God, let the gospel reach new eyes, ears, hearts;
God, let the deserts bloom verdure again;
God, heal bad minds and diseased body-parts;
God, bring in time, the breeze, the sun and rain.

God, comfort hearts that human hands have ditched;
Deliver souls that satan has bewitched.
