To Albius Tibullus

Not to lament that rival flame
Wherewith the heartless Glycera scorns you,
Nor waste your time in maudlin rhyme,
How many a modern instance warns you!

Fair-browed Lycoris pines away
Because her Cyrus loves another;
The ruthless churl informs the girl
He loves her only as a brother!

For he, in turn, courts Pholoe,--
A maid unscotched of love's fierce virus;
Why, goats will mate with wolves they hate
Ere Pholoe will mate with Cyrus!

Ah, weak and hapless human hearts,
By cruel Mother Venus fated
To spend this life in hopeless strife,
Because incongruously mated!

Such torture, Albius, is my lot;
For, though a better mistress wooed me,
My Myrtale has captured me,
And with her cruelties subdued me!

Cyrus In The Moonlight

Oh the hills are full of spirits
And they walk when night comes round
And they speak to who they choose to
When the moon is shining down
And ramona loves the orchard
And liza loves the pine
And cyrus in the moonlight
Loves the flowing of the wine
Oh cyrus trusts the spirits
And they fill his life with grace
Yeah the father of his fathers
Passed him down the gift of faith
And one night you might hear it
Like a wailing from above
Its just cyrus in the moonlight
Singing to the one he loves...
And the two girls start to dancing
When they hear that drunken voice
Thats when cyrus asks the moonlight
Do I have to make a choice
tween liza with her red hair
And ramona with her blues
And with all these gifts they bring me
Tell me how can I refuse
Well the hills are full of spirits
And they walk when night comes round
And they speak to who they choose to
When the moon is shining down
And ramona loves the orchard
And liza loves the pine
And cyrus in the moonlight
Loves the flowing of the wine
And one night you might hear it
Like a wailing from above
Its just cyrus in the moonlight
Singing to the one he loves...

To an Aged Cut-Up, II

Chloris lay off the flapper stuff;
What's fit for Pholoë, a fluff,
Is not for Ibycus's wife--
A woman at your time of life!

Ignore, old dame, such pleasures as
The shimmy and "the Bacchus Jazz";
Your presence with the maidens jars--
You are the cloud that dims the stars.

Your daughter Pholoë may stay
Out nights on the Appian Way;
her love for Nothus, as you know,
Makes her as playful as a doe.

No jazz for you, no jars of wine,
No rose that blooms incarnadine.
For one thing only you are fit:
Buy some Lucerian wool--and knit!

Lover in the dream

I meet my lover in the dream
He comes in the night and makes beautiful dream
I know he is my soul mate when I look at him
I could act like all girl who fall in love
He’ll never hurt me, I’m safe in his arms

I meet my lover in the dream
He comes in several nights till I thought it’s real
I know he is my soul mate and I love him
He makes me feel happiness just be with him
He loves me through his heart like nobody else

When will I meet my love in real life?
He comes to my life and never leaves again
He will be my soul mate the more I know him
He treats me like precious girl
He’ll never hurt me, I would be safe in his arms

Someday I meet my lover like in the dream
He comes to my life assure me it’s real
He is my soul mate and I love him
He loves me through his heart and nobody else

Glycera Rediviva

Horace: Book I, Ode 19

"Mater sæva Cupidinum"

Venus, the cruel mother of
The Cupids (symbolising Love),
Bids me to muse upon and sigh
For things to which I've said "Good-bye!"

Believe me or believe me not,
I give this Glycera girl a lot:
Pure Parian marble are her arms--
And she has eighty other charms.

Venus has left her Cyprus home
And will not let me pull a pome
About the Parthians, fierce and rough,
The Scythian war, and all that stuff.

Set up, O slaves, a verdant shrine!
Uncork a quart of last year's wine!
Place incense here, and here verbenas,
And watch me while I jolly Venus!

Sonnet: What A Human Being Loves?

Oh, how one loves being called by his name!
Oh, how one loves more being spoken to!
Oh, how one loves to take part in a game!
Oh, how one loves to show what he can do.

A human being loves to talk to next;
A human being loves to walk abreast;
A human being loves the opposite sex;
A loving touch from person kind, works best.

A human being loves to have a friend;
A human being loves to have siblings;
A human being hates to much depend;
A human being knows God ’midst earthlings.

God's Love made man, the best amongst creatures;
Man’s love is exemplary in features.

Albi ne doleus...

What good does it to fret and kick
over the latest indiscretions of a thoughtless girl
Albi, or churn out strophes on love's labor
lost to a younger man?

Behind her bangs Lycorida
burns with lust for Cyrus-himself unashamed
to worship Pholean, that slut, who claims
'Sooner will Apulian wolves

Shag Coan ewes than I that snake! '
Suchwise is brazen Venus pleased to vex us
yoking disparate souls in twain, then laughing
cruelly at her joke.

Why. I myself was wooed by a highborn lass
once, but fell to the charms of Myrtle, who in fact,
purchased her bonds, turned 'round and slipped
them smoothly on me.

He Loves You

His love will conquer anger
His love defies all words
He hears all the prayers that are spoken
And all the prayers unheard

His love is unconditional
He loves you when your wrong
He loves you when you disobey
His love for you is strong

He loves you when you stumble
He loves you when you fall
He loves us so much more than words
He really loves us all

He loves you when you call His name
He loves you when you cry
He loves you when your down and out
For us He sent his Son to die

He loves you when you're laughing
He loves you when you smile
He loves it when you praise His name
He loves you, you're his child

His love is never ending
Until the end of time
And once you just embrace His love
Your life will be just fine

For He's got the best intentions
Look at The Son of Man
Be honored through the joy & pain
You're a big part of His plan.

John Donne

Love's Deity

I LONG to talk with some old lover's ghost,
Who died before the god of love was born.
I cannot think that he, who then loved most,
Sunk so low as to love one which did scorn.
But since this god produced a destiny,
And that vice-nature, custom, lets it be,
I must love her that loves not me.

Sure, they which made him god, meant not so much,
Nor he in his young godhead practised it.
But when an even flame two hearts did touch,
His office was indulgently to fit
Actives to passives. Correspondency
Only his subject was; it cannot be
Love, till I love her, who loves me.

But every modern god will now extend
His vast prerogative as far as Jove.
To rage, to lust, to write to, to commend,
All is the purlieu of the god of love.
O! were we waken'd by this tyranny
To ungod this child again, it could not be
I should love her, who loves not me.

Rebel and atheist too, why murmur I,
As though I felt the worst that love could do?
Love might make me leave loving, or might try
A deeper plague, to make her love me too;
Which, since she loves before, I'm loth to see.
Falsehood is worse than hate; and that must be,
If she whom I love, should love me.

A girl like me

a girl like me
loves me for who i am
a girl like me
loves people for who they are
a girl like me
loves people not for what i see
a girl like me
loves for what i know
a girl like me
cant understand why people hate
a girl like me
cant understand why people love
a girl like me
is curious to the world
a girl like me
is curious to know what happens after life
a girl like me
just lives in the moment
a girl like me
never knows where life will take me
a girl like me
gets confused and lost
a girl like me
wonders if life was ment for me
a girl like me
is just a girl lost
looking for her place in the world

Ode to loves....

Every time I think about love, only loves, don’t know why…
Every time, looking at the guy who I like, want to talk but
my voice wont come out…
Looking at loves, don’t stop loving someone in their hearts.
Loves are anyway, no matter what …
My hearts want loves.
But I can’t fall in love…

Ode to loves…

Loves lament

Loves Lament.

The dragon sings his mating song
and voices his sad loneliness.
To be alone he feels is wrong
he seeks a mate a dragoness.

He sings it from the mountain peaks.
A song of love and tenderness
He lets the world know that he seeks
to find a mate a dragoness.

But female dragons are so rare
his hopes of happiness are few.
His lament fills the upper air
there’s nothing else that he can do.

He sings his love song every night
when day is done and twilight falls.
He hopes one day that he just might
receive an answer to his calls.

He sings his plaintive melody
resounding clearly everywhere
and always listens carefully.
He’s sure that there must be somewhere.

A dragoness who’s lonely too.
One fine night he hears a voice
an answer that’s long overdue.
His heart aflame he must rejoice.

A dragoness has heard his call
and from afar she quickly flew
. She lands upon his eyrie wall.
says” I am Flame but who are you”

He bows to her and he replies
“ My name is Star I live alone.
Your coming took me by surprise
The greatest gift that I have known”

She says that she too seeks a mate.
His love call lifted her despair.
Perchance it’s time to celebrate.
She thinks they’ll make a lovely pair.

He then proposes formally
for Dragons are a polite race
and she accepts him readily
and couches her reply in grace.

But still each night the dragon sings
of how he loves his dragoness.
Enfolds her safely in his wings
and treats her with great tenderness.

You may not think my tale is true.
For fools say dragons don’t exist
I can assure you that they do.
That’s why the legends still persist.

Although they may be far and few.
If you are lucky you may see
a pair of dragons: If you do
then just enjoy it quietly.

There is no need to brag and boast.
you will be labelled as insane.
But you are luckier than most
to see the dragons fly again.

Jack And Joe

Jack would not sell his dog not even for a billion he says my dog Joe is just not for sale
One cannot buy such things as trust and loyalty and in such tests my best mate never fail
A bone from the butcher and a can of dog food that seems to fulfil his needs every day
For his companionship and his undying devotion that does not seem such a big price to pay.

Joe is a black labrador cross border collie just a mongrel the less informed would say
He bought him off of the dog pound a few years back and just 100 dollars for him he did pay,
He was a playful seven months old puppy and very bright for a non pedigree
But labradors and border collies are smart canines as most who know about dogs would agree.

To Jack he is a devoted companion and where ever you will see him you'll see Joe
And Jack says his dog more trustworthy than any human and a better friend than him he'll never know,
His dog has shown him more love and affection than shown to him at anytime by his ex wife
And he will tell you the day he went to the dog pound was the luckiest ever day for him in life

When he drives down the street or to the town park Joe his black mate is always in the back
He would not even sell him for a billion Joe's the greatest mate I ever had says Jack
He loves his dog as much as he loves his children and the bond between them only seem to grow
And where ever you'll see one you'll see the other they are the best of mates old Jack and Joe.

When Somebody Loves You

When your heart is all alone every second
Seems so long
When its just you, you cant see through
Those ol clouds that rain so blue
But when somebody loves you
Theres nothing you cant do
When somebody loves you
Its easy to get through
When somebody loves you
The way I love you
When its late, the sun hangs low
By yourself, nowhere to go
Sing a song, you dance alone
Play solitaire and stare at the phone
But when somebody loves you
Theres nothing you cant do
When somebody loves you
Its easy to get through
When somebody loves you
The way I love you
So lets put aside our foolish pride
And let our hearts say hello
We both agree were just no good
At bein on our own
cause when somebody loves you
Theres nothing you cant do
When somebody loves you
Its easy to get through
When somebody loves you
The way I love you
The way I love you
The way I love you

He loves me, He loves me not

He loves me,
he loves me not

Like a fairy tale
a flower pedal
represents love,
but of course

He loves me,
he loves me not

There is no
I'm not sure's
or I like you, but's
just seven little words

He loves me,
He loves me not

There are no other girls
no jelousy or pain
no arguments, no humiliation
it all falls into

He loves me,
He loves me not

But what if...
it doesn't exist
if love is truly such a fairy tale
then explain this:

He loves me,
He loves me not
He loves me,
He loves me not
He loves me,

He loves me not

When A Man Loves A Woman

When a man loves a woman
He can't keep his mind on nothing else
He'll trade the world
For the good thing he's found
If she is bad he can't see it
She can do no wrong
Turn his back on his best friend
If he put her down.
When a man loves a woman
Spend his very last dime
Tryin' to hold on to what he needs
He'd give up all his comfort
Sleep out in the rain
If she said that's the way it ought to be.
Well, this man loves a woman
I gave you everything I had
Tryin' to hold on to your precious love
Baby, please don't treat me bad.
When a man loves a woman
Down deep in his soul
She can bring him such misery
If she plays him for a fool
He's the last one to know
Lovin' eyes can never see.
When a man loves a woman
He can do no wrong
He can never hold some other girl
Yes when a man loves a woman
I know exactly how he feels
'Cause baby, baby, baby, you're my world.
When a man loves a woman...

Nobody Loves A Fat Girl

Traditional - Revised & Arranged by - Jim Croce
Nobody loves a fat girl
But oh how a fat girl can love
Nobody seems to want me
I'm just a truck upon the highway of love
I'm all alone inside of my form
When ev'ry ounce of me is dyin' to keep somebody warm
Nobody loves a fat girl
But oh how a fat girl can love
Nobody loves a fat girl
But oh how a fat girl can love
Nobody seems to want me
I'm just a truck upon the highway of love
The only game I can get the boys to play
Is to have them sit around and try to guess how much I weigh
Nobody loves a fat girl
But oh how a fat girl can love, pretty mama
Oh how a fat girl can love

A Pastoral Dialogue

Dorinda. Sabæan Perfumes fragrant Roses bring,
With all the Flowers that Paint the gaudy Spring:
Scatter them all in young Alexis's way,
With all that's sweet and (like himself) that's Gay.
Alexis. Immortal Laurels and as lasting Praise,
Crown the Divine Dorinda's matchless Laies:
May all Hearts stoop, where mine would gladly yield,
Had not Lycoris prepossest the Field.
Dor. Would my Alexis meet my noble Flame,
In all Ausonia neither Youth nor Dame,
Should so renown'd in Deathless Numbers shine,
As thy exalted Name should do in mine.

Alex. He'll need no Trophie nor ambitious Hearse,
Who shall be honour'd by Dorinda's Verse;
But where it is inscrib'd, That here doth lie
Lycoris's Love. That Fame can never die.
Dor. On Tyber's Bank I Thyrsis did espie,
And by his side did bright Lycoris lie;
She Crown'd his Head, and Kist his amorous Brow,
Ah Poor Alexis! Ah then where wer't thou?
Alex. When thou saw'st that, I ne'r had seen my Fair,
And what pass'd then ought not to be my Care;
I liv'd not then, but first began to be,
When I Lycoris Lov'd, and she Lov'd me.
Dor. Ah choose a Faith, a Faith that's like thine own,
A Virgin Love, a Love that's newly blown:
'Tis not enough a Maidens Heart is chast,
It must be Single, and not once mis-plac't.
Alex. Thus do our Priests of Heavenly Pastures tell,
Eternal Groves, all Earthly, that excel:

And think to wean us from our Loves below,
By dazling Objects which we cannot know.

I'm In Love With a Poet

You’re my soul mate
I know it, I feel it, its fate
You were born June 8,1977
I was born June 1,1977
You’re a poet by heart, it’s your destiny
You caress each word with your creativity
Spilling your soul like no other brother
Chilling the heart of this sister
You broke up with her again
Maybe you weren’t meant to be friends
Because you’re my soul mate
Although you’re a college dropout
I am here to catch you
To take you to your graduation
So don’t worry about the late registration
And all the heartbreaks
Cause I have what it takes
Cause you’re my soul mate
Let’s date
Maybe consummate
All those other girls
Girly girls
Or guys looking like girls
Don’t player-hate
Cause he’s my soul mate
No more bitter sweet loving
For my American boy
Cause he has found his soul mate

Mate-man, Mate-woman

Mate-man, mate-woman were expressions
Jack London’s wife and Jack would use,
not only in their mating sessions
but whenever they would schmooze.
Daddy-boy and Mother-girl
were alternatives, but I
prefer the mate words when I whirl
my woman round while feeling spry.
Partners should not be a daddy
or a mother when they mate,
for how could they then be the baddie
whom lusty lovers love to date?

I get pleasure in abundance
from my mate, though she’s a mother,
Croydon hoyden she, I London’s
imperfect product whom no other
has managed to call from the wild,
domesticate, however rash
I used to be, a London child.
For her I even take out trash,
mate-woman always to me, and
the trophy of the man she twirls
around her here in La-La land,
the greatest of all Mother girls.

Inspired by Thomas Meaney’s review of Paul Malmont’s novel “Jack London in Paradise” (“Jack London, island playboy, ” LA Times, January 5,2009) :

[T]he sex scenes in 'Jack London in Paradise' come as an unexpected pleasure. Here is Jack with his temptress wife, Charmian: 'With a mournful groan, he slid onto the bed next to her... she placed her hand tenderly on his belly then slowly slid it down to where everything remained soft.' To which Charmian responds, winningly: 'Here in Aloha-land you'll grow as strong as you ever were... My Mate-Man.' Under the covers, Malmont is at his campy best, whether he means it or not (and yes, he is on firm historical footing - 'mate-man' and 'mate-woman' were the Londons' actual pet names for each other) .
