A Memento
I opened up a Bible, and there between the pages,
A rose had been secreted, it must have been there ages,
I wondered who had so placed it, displaying still its magenta red,
For remembrance perhaps, or a memento, sweet petal's carefully spread.
I tried to imagine it fresh and new, all that long time ago,
And observing it, quite suddenly, my tears began to flow,
I left it in that Bible, it wasn't damaged in any way,
Knowing someone else would find it, when they felt the need to pray.

The Death of Grandfather
We waited commonly for sleep or even death.
The instances were wearisome as ages.
But suddenly the wind's refreshing breath
Touched through the window the Holy Bible's pages:
An old man goes there - who's now all white-haired -
With rapid steps and merry eyes, alone,
He smiles to us, and often calls with hand,
And leaves us with a gait, that is well-known.
And suddenly we all, who watched the old man's track,
Well recognized just him who now lay before us,
And turning in a sudden rapture back,
Beheld a corpse with eyes forever closed ...
And it was good for us the soul's way to trace,
And, in the leaving one, to find the glee it's forming.
The time had come. Recall and love in grace,
And celebrate another house-warming!

Lonliness (Smells)
lonliness...
smells like,
my grandmother's kitchen,
after working outside all day.
rain, just before it falls,
a fresh plowed field.
my mother's old Bible,
a fireplace too long unused.
old nuts, your pillow,
the old pine tree that fell
and lay rotting in the yard.
a well oiled glove,
the tractor in the barn.
your hair, a rose just opened,
the box too long
in the back of the closet.

What Does the Bible Tell?
The Bible speaks about the love of God
That’s infinite and unfathomable;
The Bible talks of love of man for God,
Their obeisance and faith amidst great strife.
The Bible tells of stories of persons
Who chose the path of righteousness to vice;
The Bible narrates accounts of men
And women who stood steadfast in faith amidst trials.
The Bible depicts how God tests man’s love
And obedience to Will of Providence;
The Bible reveals all secrets of life
That’s everlasting and all heavenly.
The Bible lists the sins that are mortal,
Abominable and hated by God;
The Bible shows the path of righteousness
That leads all souls to the Abode of God.
The Bible hints how God can punish as well
And send all evil-hearted down to hell;
The Bible has the Words of the Maker
That will come true when earth and sun shall end!

I Pray
I can't quote the Bible
I skipped Sunday school
And I can't count the times I fell and broken the golden rule
So I don't know if He listens
Sometimes I wonder if He cares
Maybe I'm just wishin'
'Cause I can't even prove he's there
But I pray
He'll watch over my childern
I pray
Just to be a better man
To find the strength to rise above
To be there for the ones I love
To forgive and be forgiven some sweet day
I pray
Now I confess I don't bow my head as often as I should
Mostly just when times are bad, rarely when they're good
And I don't hold with too much preachin'
But I was raised up to believe
That a man can't ever stand as tall
As when he gets down on his knees
So I pray
He'll watch over my childern
I pray
Just to be a better man
To find the strength to rise above
To be there for the ones I love
To forgive and be forgiven some sweet day
I pray
So I pray
For a world that's gone half crazy
I pray
For every woman child and man
To find the strength to rise above
To teach each other how to love
To forgive and be forgiven some sweet day
I pray
I pray

Thought-Provoking Questions
Across the TV screen they scrolled,
The questions to the show...
While just one answer could be told,
Still questions were in flow...
The compere and the guest still spoke,
With comments to explain...
Yet were the questions there a joke,
Eye-candy or eye-strain?
I tuned out what was being said,
To view the scrolling text...
Because I chose to read instead,
So not to be perplexed...
Those questions were both great and small,
Yet by them I felt blessed,
Then suddenly there was a call
To compere and to guest...
I thus ignored the text below
And listened once again...
Perhaps for something new to know,
Perhaps beyond my ken...
But, oh, what wisdom saints would share,
Life stories so profound...
And oh, such tender-hearted prayer,
To turn our lives around...
What was Good Friday all about?
And so the guest replied...
It was because God's Laws we flout
That Christ was crucified...
The guest was almost near to tears,
As he explained the cost...
To think, Christ overcame His fears
And died to save the lost...
Another caller praised the Lord,
She spoke of many things...
Then told us straight to rest assured,
Trust Christ, the King of Kings!
Forgiveness is the Father's Plan,
The Bible is the key...
And suddenly, my tears began...
I knew Christ died for me...

2008: We Don't Have All the Answers
He's been to Sunday School
He's had a chance to read the Bible
He's see pictures of The Garden
Colored Noah the animals and the Ark
Now he's home and ready to play
Wants to draw a dinosaur
Asks me what colors to use
How big to make the teeth and eyes
I wasn't sure how to tell him
All we have are impressions
On rocks fossilized gray dusty bones
I admitted I wasn't sure
What colors or how big
Science - I did tell him - isn't sure
And the Bible
Just doesn't say

If I Could Pass Something On To You
If I could pass something on to you my dear friend, what would it be?
If it was a word or two on life, would you want words simply from me?
Words of my own are of so little value, so why should I even pretend?
For the only words of eternal value are found in the Bible my friend.
As I read the Bible, what I should pass on is made very clear to me,
For this life will soon be over, and where are you going eternally?
Much time is spent on planning for this world that will one day end,
But very little thought is given to one's eternal destiny my friend.
All of the world's uncertainties will end soon, this you can be sure,
While the certainty of the coming age we avoid will last forevermore.
One reason to focus on life with The One Who's knocking on the door,
He promised to purify all with this Hope, just as He Himself is Pure.
You may not be moved by my reasoning or you may not even understand,
But for me it goes beyond reason, as it is The Lord's direct command.
For Jesus said seek first The Kingdom and you will have all you need,
This is something instead of glossing over, each day I try to heed.
Before Jesus left He said make disciples of the nations in the world,
It wasn't only for the Apostles, but for all ages to joyfully herald.
Paul wasn't ashamed of the gospel, for it's the power unto Salvation,
This should shame us until we reach every tribe, tongue and nation.
An Eternal Source
There is one man, Jesus Christ, who is the role model of my life,
My friend, His Word I hide inside, He is my shield and my guide.
The never ending source for me, of what through God I can be.
It is The Word of God of course, that Living and Eternal source.
Inspiring men through the ages, with God’s Wisdom on its pages.
And God’s Eternal Wisdom friend, found in The Bible has no end.
God’s Word began back in Eternity, before this world came to be.
His spoken word, penned by men, is the Bible’s source my friend.
Wisdom from its pages flow, challenging Believers as they grow.
Transforming a heart and mind, while leaving all the past behind.
Directed from the dark of night, through its pages filled with light.
Filling up with the mind of Christ, while preparing for Eternal Life.
To Moses God spoke The Law, to a nation both weak and small.
This Law would point every nation, to Jesus Christ, for salvation.
Christ then spoke to Apostle Paul, instituting Grace over the Law.
Through one man all would fall, but in Christ, there’s Grace for all.
Israel was given the oracles of God, to be led by His staff and rod,
To lead all nations to the place, so they could accept God’s Grace.
Grace has appeared to all men, in a world that stood condemned.
This Grace helps us to live our life, while we wait for Jesus Christ.
Friend God’s Divine Revelation, was spoken to reach every nation,
In the last days through Jesus Christ, to lead all men to Eternal Life.
Forgotten will be the words of men, all earthly wisdom that they pen.
Soon their wisdom God will sever, but God’s Word shall last forever.

A Survival Of Love
On a mid-winter's night
when the stars were bright
a stranger came into town.
As he looked around
it was then that he found
that all of the ground was white.
It was beautiful to see
and he wondered if she
would be looking out at the snow?
All the time he'd been gone
as he approached the front lawn,
he prayed that there she would be.
His hands were so cold.
They were wrinkled and old
but they remembered the feel of her face.
So much time had passed by.
Many tears they did cry,
not knowing what their future did hold,
In between all the years
there'd been so many tears
not knowing where he did go?
He'd been hit on the head
robbed and then left for dead.
but survived and as his head clears
He cannot recall
who he is at all.
No memories of whom he had been.
What was his name?
Was he insane?
Amnesia had created a wall.
He had a wife
who prayed for his life,
never giving up hope he'd return.
Every day she would go
and look out at the snow
as the years had brought nothing but strife.
Not knowing at all that his amnesia's wall
came suddenly crumbling down.
He remembered his past.
He traveled there fast
and he came to the town of snowfall.
As he approached in the snow
she was at the window,
looking at what she thought was a ghost.
Trembling to see
Was it really he?
She opened the door very slow.
She felt his hand.
His hand held a strand
of her hair that was white like the snow.
They couldn't let go
for they both did know
that their lives ended just as God planned.

He Is Caught In Time
(after Mandi Engelbrecht)
The faces around him is a confusing sea
of unknown people for whom he does not care
and he keeps away from pleasure and enjoyment;
he does not anymore understand his Bible or God.
No beautiful girl catches his eyes
and he is afraid for all of life,
people on the street are strange and silly;
he does not anymore understand his Bible or God.
One dark night his wife left him,
talked cheerfully about her new lover,
took everything along even the last flower vase,
he does not anymore understand his Bible or God;
she told the whole world that he whores around,
that he peeps at other women,
that he keeps no Godly command,
he does not anymore know his Bible or God;
at the holy church he lost his job
when more and more people heard the gossip story,
he scolds himself that he is very stupid,
he does not anymore understand his Bible or God.
His whole life is broken into pieces,
around him there is only confusing impressions,
it’s as if all his friends now are mocking him,
he does not anymore understand his Bible or God.
He locks himself in his inner room
opens for nobody that knocks on the outside,
he finds no other work opportunity,
he does not anymore understand his Bible or God.
During the night he is single, almost a monk
and he lives from dark moment to moment
is caught in time, feels dirty and rotten;
he does not anymore understand his Bible or God.
There is another world in his poems,
in memories wandering, searching faces
and dreams of some deliverance are somewhat silly;
he does not anymore understand his Bible or God.
He plants African marigolds, roses and jasmine;
feels the earth in his hands and too much pain,
he is broken and almost bankrupt;
he does not anymore understand his Bible or God.

I Write
About this world with end
I write
Where I was brought upon,
Amidst this rot
Where hands are laid on the Bible
But the Bible is never opened,
Where doctrines are preached
But never practiced,
Where kleptomaniacs
And lootersand thieves
Control politics.
.
About this hell on earth
Men call life,
I write.

Symbolic Need
For those into scriptures.
To quote to stir up a closeness to God.
The Bible is a purpose to reference Him.
Although many open it to underscore...
How best to remove themselves from sin!
Without a single clue,
The Earth is a living and breathing 'entity'.
If it wasn't for the Sun...
And its relationship to the Moon,
None of us would have conflict...
If an ignorance of this would from us be lifted.
None of us would fight...
Over who has more of a religious right!
Since long before those divisions began...
The Moon was there!
And so was the Sun.
Along with the Stars we see at night.
And those into a self righteousness...
Even with a 'divine' tool to use.
Will always find reasons to feed,
A symbolic need to physically...
Authorize their appetites.
As God watches,
From an omniprescence.
Knowing from a darkness...
He patiently awaits for us,
To turn on the 'lights'!
By simply asking for this to be done.
And yet...
All of us are not assigned to see,
The magnificence that 'is' of this 'Deity'.

Ask, and it shall be given you Seek, and ye shall find Knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
A Welcome Last Exhale
When most of the breath has left my frame
and not much lies inside
I'll remember when my breath was on fire
as I lay at night by your side.
Lucky to be granted a long life
or unlucky for I'm alone.
Only my remembrance to comfort me
for 'tis all I own.
Once I owned the world with you.
Now, I own despair.
Tears do flow on silent nights
as into space I stare.
I catch a glimpse but soon its gone,
my memory fragile now.
Tomorrow if I come awake
and the Gods allow
I'll pray to leave and find you
and maybe I'll inhale
a long deep breath once again
with a welcome last exhale.

The Box
On the top shelf in the closet,
In the workshop where he spent his extra time
Was a dust wooden box _that I had never noticed till that time
And we set on the table and carefully, we opened up the top
And stared into the memory_daddy kept inside the box
There was a letter from mamma, when she went out to reno
To help her sister out in 62
And a flower from hawaii, when they went on vacation
It was the first time that my daddy ever flew
And the pocket knife I gave__to him on fathers day
Years ago, I thought it had been lost
We all thought his heart was made from solid rock
But that was long before we found the box
I guess we always knew it_but I love you was hard for him to say
Some men show it easy and some just never seem to find the way
But that night I began__to see the softer side of some I had lost
I saw the love he kept inside the first time_we opened up the box
There was a picture that was taken, when he and mom were dating
Standing by his 1944,
And the faded leather bible, he got when he was baptised
I guess no one understood him like the lord
And the poem that he had written, about his wife and children
The tender words he spoke were quite a shock
We all thought his heart was made of solid rock
But that was long before we found the box
Yes that was long before we found the box

Rushing Touch of Love
You have opened the window to my heart.
The air is fresh.
And the dew that sits...
Lifts with the dawning Sun.
You have removed the clouds from my eyes.
My sight is clear.
The trees appear so majestic now.
The carpet of grass caresses the ground.
A family of flowers surround me with their fragrance.
And a patience to know them by name.
When you hold my hand I tingle.
Our kisses are as sweet...
As any bee can create to comb in hives.
I am alive with this awakening to me gifted.
I can not resist its magneticness.
You have opened the window to my heart.
Had I left it closed in darkness...
I would have still felt rain and thunder!
But now the storm I feel...
Is the pounding of my heart.
And the tears that have come.
Knowing someone like you...
Has thrusted upon me this rushing touch of love!
