Smells Like

if your heart
smells like my feet,
then the time
is not in vain.
we lose years
in moments of burden...
painting stars
on a ceiling
sure to fall!
if my feet
smell like prayers,
then god should know
the way, and have the key.
if the door
smells like you...
then we'll both wait
outside in the rain!

It Smells Like Rain

It smells like rain
filling the air
before the first drops break
in quiet splashes on the river.
It smells like rain
musty and fresh at once
warning the birds
to go home.
And the rain comes
water on water
cool rush of sound
quieting insects
teasing fish
drenching boaters
surprised by the storm.
It smells like rain
It sounds like rain
It looks like rain, now
I’ll go outside
and feel the rain.
Hell. I’ll be the rain.

Reverend Girl

We are for today
We are for the moment
We are a crusade
But we are invalid
1 am rummaging
Stained my hands on her antique
2 am
Reverend girl
I am so indifferent
I am whatever
3 am cellophane
Suffocates my favorite things
4 am
The reverend girl
Seems that the more were achieving, the less chance of leaving this world
With a reverend girl
Another lover wakes me
Head upon a window pane
Before the thunder shook us
She could always smell the rain
A year is dissipating
Another hail cannot disdain
Never mind the thunder
Now my lover smells like
Now my lover smells like
Now my lover smells like rain

Smelling the Day: Father and Son

Here is a time-tested weather rhyme:
'If with your nose you smell the day,
Stormy weather's on the way.'

There is the rhyme, and here is the reason:
As Andy Dappen wrote,
'Plants release oils into the atmosphere,

'And research indicates
That the higher the humidity,
The more oils the plants give off.

'This produces the distinctive odor
Many of us recognize when we say,
'Smells like rain today.''

When with his nose he smelled the day,
My father, a seasoned farmer, would say,
'Heads up, son! Smells like rain today.'

Between Us... (Breathes)

when my heart smells like your feet,
then this journey is shared.
when your lonliness lights a candle,
then i will come as wind to blow it out.
when your tears fall onto my scars,
then the silence between us breathes....

The smells of Football

Football has it's own smells
from the grass on the pitch
to the aroma from the Hot Dog stalls.
In the dressing room there's sweat
strong odour coming from ointments
being rubbed into aching muscles.
On the terraces you smell beer
years ago there was tobacco too
on Boxing Day the whiff of cigar smoke.
As a boy my mothers washing powder
making my kit smell nice and fresh
and getting rid of mud and grass stains.
The smell of leather of a new pair
of football boots and new ball
and layers of thick black polish.
At the half-time break in a match
onto the field came a large tray
full of sweet smelling and tasty Oranges.
These are the smells of Football
the odours of the Beautiful game
and for some the sweet smell of success.

Home

I aint never going home
cause Im having a good time
I aint never going home
cause my time is come
Ill wait for the winter
To lie at my door
White stretches out before me
Leads me to the hall
White circles play within my mind
Ices over and freezes life
Time will come, time will come, time will fall
Bringing the world to its feet
Bringing the world to its feet
I aint never turning back
cause Ive come this far
And Im lost within my tracks
I will follow the north star
Ill wait till the springtime
Is breathing at my door
The wilderness before me
Heeds the lions roar
White circles play within my mind
Ices over and freezes life
Time will come, time will come, time will fall
Bringing the world to its feet
Bringing the world to her hands and her knees
Ill wait till the winter
Is lying at my door
Time stretches out before me
A stones throw from the door
White circles play within my mind
Ices over and freezes life
Time will come, time will come, time will fall
Bringing the world to its feet
Bringing the world to her hands and her feet
Bringing the world to its feet

I Like Smells

i like smells...
woodsmoke, and food,
black coffee in the morning.
the smell of rain,
of mud, of wetness.
the smell of the walls
of the cave, of the stone,
of the moss...
the smell of sex, of arousal,
of a woman's neck.
the smell of pine needles,
of an old house,
of fresh turned earth...
the smell of old books,
of old dogs, of shadows
without form...
i've even become accustomed
to the smell of death!

G.K. Chesterton

The Mariner

he violet scent is sacred
Like dreams of angels bright;
The hawthorn smells of passion
Told in a moonless night.

But the smell is in my nostrils,
Through blossoms red or gold,
Of my own green flower unfading,
A bitter smell and bold.

The lily smells of pardon,
The rose of mirth; but mine
Smells shrewd of death and honour,
And the doom of Adam's line.

The heavy scent of wine-shops
Floats as I pass them by,
But never a cup I quaff from,
And never a house have I.

Till dropped down forty fathoms,
I lie eternally;
And drink from God's own goblet
The green wine of the sea.

Our communion

When I rub lavender balm into your feet
it’s every time,
as if we go praying into communion
and in peace stand sinless before God.

I wash your feet in coarse salt
and there are things fitting neatly into our lives
and other things that we talk about
that breaks open a person’s heart.

Sometimes a candle or two are lighted
and the jasmine scent
comes in from outside
and it smells fresh like a new start.

There’s garlic bread of which I get slices
and the smell hangs in the air between us
and we discuss things suspended between us
that a person has difficulty to express in words.

The bottle St Celine
produced by Douglas Green
tastes to you like bitter blood
and you tell me about your pain and bliss.

mmm-mmm...Quick Feet

I'm not a greedy eater,
But I do love to eat!

mmm-mmm...
When you cook,
mmm-mmm...
I sneak a look,
mmm-mmm...
I get addicted with an ease that hooks.
mmm-mmm...
With smells delicious,
mmm-mmm...
And a left foot twitched,
mmm-mmm...
I admit to my impatience like an itchy crook!

And ooo...
I need some water,
And ooo...
To take a drink,
And ooo...
The eyes on me don't wink or even blink.
My stomach's grumbling and I'll sneak to eat.
mmm-mmm...
Is it fish?
mmm-mmm...
Or tasty beef?
mmm-mmm...
I'm gonna grab a piece and flee on quick feet.

oooooo...
Quick feet.
Go go...
Quick feet!

Delicious treat and fleeing on quick feet.

The Grass Smells Red

The grass smells red.
Untill these mortal bounds find thier way into the catostrophic fire's of love and redemption, the grass will smell red.
The grass tells a story of wars unsung and battles lost.
The grass tells a story of love gained and a fury found again.
The grass smells red...but does it speak?
Does it's voice ring out like the bells in a steeple?
Does it feel the pain of those who died?
Did it hear the screams?
The grass smells red and it grow's red.
It feels red.
This grass will die red.

Every morning

You are faithful to your morning
Prayers and your habit of
Having coffee first
After waking up

So the room smells of coffee
Fumes wafting
Settling to
My nostrils
As I pretend sleeping

You complain somehow
That this room
No longer smells
The pungent
Odors
of lovers

Of our common
Sweat drying because
We have overslept
Because we are so exhausted
each one
unattended.

The Disciples Of Silence

the disciples of silence,
speak not with their mouths...
for their hands speak the language
of the heart,
and their feet that of the soul.
whose prayers are written by ears,
whose breath is always shared.
whose eyes are open windows,
whose god smells of human need.
whose actions be but forgiveness,
whose thoughts are not restrained.
the disciples of silence keep walking...
living in constant dialogue,
they have no need for words!

A Dog's Life Initial Version Sixteen Years

Sixteen years, now almost seventeen,
I came at beck and call, stayed seldom still
until my master called, or whistle shrill
recalled me to my place. My sight was keen.

Sixteen years, I stood as faithful friend,
as boon companion spinning out the years.
His mother passed away, I shared the tears
that fountained forth and never seemed to end.

Sixteen years, come rain or shine, I d walk
twice, sometimes thrice a day, I sensed each smell
around the house, yes every one knew well well,
and after dinner heard the table talk.

Sixteen years from pet to family,
from playful pat to priceless kith and kin,
I vetted all who'd fall for either twin,
could smell a rat or chase cat up a tree.

Sixteen years I watched the children grow,
suffered their untaught hands, that now caress,
I guard them still, still at the same address,
as I will do til its my turn to go.

Sixteen years that gambolled life away,
with water, beef and bone, I've played at will.
The smells less sharp are now, and soon I will
make my last bow - yet still, in dreams, I play!

Falling At Your Feet

Every chip from every cup
Every promise given up
Every reason that's not enough
Is falling, falling at your feet
Every band elastic limit
Every race when there's nothing in it
Every winner that has lost their ticket
Is falling, falling at your feet
I've come crawling, falling at your feet
Everyone who needs a friend
Every life that has no end
Every knee not ready to bend
Is falling, falling at your feet
I've come crawling, now I'm falling at your feet
All fall down
All the manic days
The faces that you pull
All the x-rays not under your control
The graffiti rolling down off of your tongue
And the compromise you make for someone
Every teenage with acne
Every face that's spoiled by beauty
Every adult tamed by duty
Are all falling at your feet
Every foot in every face
Every cop stop that finds the grace
Every prisoner in the Maze
Every hand that needs an ace
Is falling, falling at your feet
I've come crawling, now I'm falling at your feet
All fall down
All the books you never read
Just started
All the meals you rushed
And never tasted
Every eye closed by a bruise
Every player who just can't lose
Every pop star hurling abuse
Every drunk back on the booze
All falling at your feet, all falling at your feet
All fall down
All the information
All the big ideas
All the radio waves
On electronic seas
How to navigate
How to simply be
Don't know when to wait
Explain simplicity
In whom shall I trust?
How might I be still?
Teach me to surrender
Not my will, THY will

Summer Night

Summer night,
Do you remember
When the stars
Kissed the moon
Over the Caribbean Sea,
Moments before
We twirled and spun
On checkered shores
Improvising all the moves?

Can you see
How the years
Have worn our feet
And stretched
Our facial skins,
Making memories restless
Where we had been?

Can you hear
The waves crashing
Against the rocks
As we adjust these hearing aids
And the sounds
Of these bell-bottoms fading?

Can you feel
Love-juice flowing
From withered spikes,
Deflected by time?

Can you smell
A fresh morning,
poured from a cup,
Mixed with hope of noon?

Can you taste
The future
With so many years gone by
And the sacraments
At heaven's door?

Just Like The Rain

Just like the rain,
That pours from the sky,
My love for you will never die.

Just like the rain,
That falls on the ground,
I will always be around.

Just like the rain,
That falls upon me,
I'm as happy as I could ever be.

Just like the rain,
With it's pure beauty,
It surely is a sight to see.

Just like the rain,
I can now see,
We were truly meant to be.

Just like the rain,
Sometimes warm and sometimes cold,
You make my heart, not break, but fold.

Just like the rain,
Beneath your feet,
Just come over here and take a seat.

Just like the rain,
Watch it with me,
So you can begin to see.

Just like the rain,
Who may always know,
That I need to stay, and never go.

Just like the rain,
Who knows what's in my heart,
It knows we should never be apart.

Just like the rain,
Please just stay,
And never go any day.

Just like the rain,
That descends from the sky,
Please, please just give me a try...

Just like the rain,
It doesn't last forever,
But it might if we're together.

Just like the rain,
I'm asking you,
When are you going to?

Just like the rain,
I cannot wait,
Until I'm finally in that place.

Just like the rain,
That's in that place in your heart,
When am I going to be that part?

Just like the rain,
That goes alone,
Am I going to turn into stone?

Just like the rain.
I'm waiting for you,
Waiting until you finally do.

Just like the rain,
That goes away,
Do you really want me to stay?

Just like the rain,
I want to know,
Should I stay or should I go?

Just like the rain,
Before that time is passed,
Why don't you just ask?

Just like the rain,
So mysterious to me,
You are just as much as thee.

Just like the rain,
I feel on my skin,
When will you let this relationship begin?

Just like the rain,
I cannot wait,
So come and ask me,
Before it's too late.

Echoes Of Oceans

why is this road so familiar?
as if my feet knew the way.
even the trees by the side
seem like old friends,
every fork is sure!

i thought i was going out,
to find freedom and salvation.
but i keep winding inward.
the soft rain that falls
feels like my own tears,
the wind smells like my heart.

the tiny shell on the shore
is smooth against my palm.
i hold it to my ear,
listening to the echoes of oceans,
where my spirit resides!
