Picture On The Mantle....

i am not the picture
on the mantle,
not the old song,
not a fleeting memory.
i am not the name
that parks behind yours,
i am not the rent, the lights,
or the groceries.
i am not the excuse,
the curse, or the lie....
not the name of your fear,
not your morals, or your chains.
i am not the old man
sitting in the chair,
staring blankly out the window.
i am not the grey in your hair,
not the heart grown cold.
i am not the bull in the pasture,
not the magazine by the toilet.
i am not your second choice,
your last resort,
or even your final resting place...

but i am the mountain unmoved,
the tree changing with seasons,
but still rooted to the ground.
i am the fury of storm,
and the beauty of sunset....
the taste of still darkness,
the fire never quenched.
i am the fall, the struggle
that gets back up,
i am the fight against all odds.
i am the heart of angels,
the hands of demons,
i am hunger shouted and chanted.

i am a man,
made of flesh and blood.
i demand the respect
that is truth and passion.
i'll get down in the ditch,
but you have to come too!
i am the hand reaching for yours.

so love me, hate me, or close the door.
i am this moment,
trickling through the hands of time.
for if i am but wave,
you must be ocean....
if you are thunder,
i am the lightning!

Heart In Pieces

Only you can touch me with your dark eyes
With a look that burns like fire through the lonely night.
Sometimes I run, but I can never hide
From the pieces of my heart that fall like rain from the sky.
When you hear the thunder,
When you hear the sound of a mountain crashing down,
Its just my heart in pieces.
When I feel the hunger,
When Im reaching out with a hundred thousand hands,
Its my heart in pieces.
No one cuts through my soul like you can.
Im naked to the bone beside your empty hand.
I see your face and I remember.
Im a prisoner of your fate,
Im a loser in the race.
When you hear the thunder,
When you hear the sounds of a mountain crashing down,
Its just my heart in pieces.
When I feel the hunger,
When Im reaching out with a hundred thousand hands,
Its my heart in pieces.
I walk the fine line
Between fire and the ice.
The memory lives on.
Theres always something to remind me.
Every teardrop falling
When your voice keeps calling.
[chorus repeats until fade.]

Great Mother

Great Mother...
ecstasy dance;
inside the fur of the wolf,
the wings of the hawk

small ants on infinite journeys,
turtles moving to earth time.
water wrapping around rocks,
old tree leaning with time.

blood, sweat, passion's fluids,
the pulse of a cold mountain.
thunder and lightning, clouds hang,
the taste of flesh lingers...

naked by the fire, shadows
on the walls of the cave....
chanting, humming, praying....
with hands bruised and grateful.

A Song for Old Love

There shall be a song for both of us that day
Though fools say you have long outlived your songs,
And when, perhaps, because your hair is grey,
You go unsung, to whom all praise belongs,
And no men kiss your hands--your fragile hands
Folded like empty shells on sea-spurned sands.
And you that were dawn whereat men shouted once
Are sunset now, but with one worshipper,
Then to your twilight heart this song shall be
Sweeter than those that did your youth announce
For your brave beautiful spirit is lovelier
Than once your lovely body was to me.
Your folded hands and your shut eyelids stir
A passion that Time has crowned with sanctity.
Young fools shall wonder why, your youth being over,
You are so sung still, but your heart will know
That he who loved your soul was your true lover
And the last song alone was worthy you.

Perhaps Love

Perhaps love is like a resting place
A shelter from the storm
It exists to give you comfort
It is there to keep you warm
And in those times of trouble
When you are most alone
The memory of love will bring you home
Perhaps love is like a window
Perhaps an open door
It invites you to come closer ( you wrote close)
It wants to show you more
And even if you lose yourself
And don't know what to do
The memory of love will see you through
Oh, love to some is like a cloud
To some as strong as steel
For some a way of living
For some a way to feel
And some say love is holding on
And some say letting go
And some say love is everything
And some say they don't know
Perhaps love is like the ocean
Full of conflict, full of pain (you wrote - change)
Like a fire when it's cold outside
Or thunder when it rains
If I should live forever
And all my dreams come true
My memories of love will be of you

A Love For All Seasons

There's no truth in the rumour
That's all I want to say
There's no room for manoevre
Make sure that it stays
A love for all seasons
October was a drag
Damn it all
You and I were fools
Overcast and sad
Winter blues
Allowing us to cool
When it's grey I know all I want to do
Resort to make-believe
There's no truth in the rumour
That's all I want to say
There's no room for manoevre
Make sure that it stays
A love for all seasons
January comes
Steely blue
Nothing seems to rhyme
With all the noise of spring
Passion wakes
Cos' we hear summertime
When it's grey I know all I want to do
Resort to make-believe
There's no truth in the rumour
That's all I want to say
There's no room for manoevre
so Make sure that it stays
A love for all seasons...
October comes around
As it does
But this time we're prepared
You and I can go
To love land
There's a sunset to be shared
When it's grey I know all I want to do
Resort to make-believe...
There's no truth in the rumour
That's all I want to say
There's no room for manoevre
So Make sure that it stays
There's no truth in the rumour
That's all I want to say
There's no room for manoevre
So Make sure that it stays
A love for all seasons
yeah, a love for all seasons
I said it
January, February, March April,
May, June July,
I love you
August, September,October, November,
I love you, yes i will..
oh cheers
yeah octuber was a fire
and in to 9:00 to 3:00 I love you
both

Started As A Seed

My love for you started only as a seed when I first look upon your beauty.
Now my love has grown as strong and tall as a mighty redwood tree. I loose my breath each time I look upon your beauty, And how your beauty touches my heart and soul. Your beauty warms my heart like the sun on a cold winters day. I know God truly loves beautiful things. For out of his heart and with his might hands he made you. Only God him self could have made such beauty as yours. If there is a greater beauty I have yet to see it with my eyes.Your beauty has reached deep into my heart and soul and I thank God for that. I can only hope and dream that my love for you has touched your heart as well.

A Thought Forgotten

rain swept branches strewn,
small testaments of living.
frail egos broken
in morning sunlit pieces.
of such is life...
hands made of flesh
building hearts.
storms come unannounced,
and forever shattered.
the rain soaks the embers,
a thin wisp of smoke.
stirred by the stick of time,
praying for flame.

are we then fire,
or just smoke?
smalls branches clinging
to the tree...
lightning in the distance,
or hearts made of thunder?
buds on the broken branch,
or the fleeting instant
of the storm's fury?
all of these, or something else,
or a thought forgotten
by a lonesome God?

Warrior's Pledge...

well, i've been to the mountain,
and i've walked through the valleys.
i've stood neath the cross
awaiting my turn.
i've heard the stories of children,
and the stories of old men.
there's not enough difference
for me to discern.

i've been to the battle,
and i've taken it to the streets.
i've been to the place,
where truth and dignity meet.
i've stood naked and alone,
and faced my sins.
i've felt the wrath of god,
known the ignorance of men.

i've worn boots of flesh,
and fought with my hands.
went back into the fire,
to save the last man.
slept with angels and demons alike,
drank the darkness, walked in the light.
found the right in wrong,
and the wrong in right....

as the storm clouds rage
on this face cut by age,
the mountains tremble,
and the rivers rage.
i'll stay to the end,
i'll turn the last page,
then catch a ride to the funeral
on the last stage....

i'll write the words of my heart,
with a pen dripping blood.
i'll cross the last river,
and stomp through the mud.
with the prayers of the children,
and the eyes of the hawk.
to the place of closeness,
where spirits can talk.

and stare deep and unashamed
into God's eyes.
and lay down my journey,
where the soul never dies.
where names be forgotten,
but hands clasp as one.
in the valley of darkness,
at the feet of the sun.

The Tree (a Repost)

the tree

when the big tree falls
hit by lightning
roared by thunder

when the big tree finally falls
and i am there
the big sound
of a giant old tree
falling finally to the ground

the arrogance
that used to be

of that big old tree
we all look up
it is so high
and we do not
climb it anyhow

we fear
and
perhaps we too pay respect
for its grandeur

and today this big tree falls
hit by lightning and roared by thunder

the universe claps upon the
fall of arrogance and pride
and a tree's belief about
its hugeness and
strength

now this tree falls
and i am here watching it

you are not here
you are in some foreign country

how can i tell you
that this tree has fallen
and there is nothing to fear anymore?

when a tree falls and you are not there
your logic tells
there is no tree
there is no tree of such strength and posture
there is no tree like that

that can ever fall
all because a lightning hit it
and all because the thunder roared

without you.

Just Another Ant....

if sin then has a face,
has it stolen my mirror?
if then a body,
must it seem familiar?
and if a voice,
must it sound familiar?
who do i pretend to be?

that which i hate and despise,
that which i fight against...
be no further away,
than the door to my heart!
and ignorance itself taunts at me,
from the comfort of my chair!

for i am both the song and the noise,
the murderer and the man of peace.
i am both human guilt and eternity's virtue.
i am the wings of angels,
and the anger of the demons!
i am both lust and compassion...
ears that listen, the face turned away.

and i am both hunger,
and the bowl that fills.
i am the blade dripping with blood,
i am the arms protecting the orphan.
i am the storm that destroys the house,
just another ant bearing food to the queen.

and yet.... I AM!

Rising Force

Out of the darkness the voices are calling
Riding the wings of a song
The Fury is screaming and Heaven is falling
I feel it coming on strong.
The lightning strikes cracking the night
It feels like never before
Thunder and sparks in the Heart of the Dark
I hear a Rising Force.
Searching my soul I find something else
I take my life in my hands
From the gates of Heaven to the altars of Hell
The Power is at my command.
The lightning strikes cracking the night
I'm not the same anymore
Thunder and spark in the Heart of the Dark
I feel a Rising Force.
Burned by the glory of a sacred fire
A Rising Force starts to shine
Alone in the inferno it soars ever higher
Leaving the demons behind.
Repeat first and second Chorus.

Weeping... (Betrayed)

weeping...
i know the sound,
the feel, the taste.
the deep intensity
of storm laden skies.
the grey dust
on the building vacant.
the stink of human flesh,
when hunger ripens into need.
the death of oil tainted water,
and smoke choking out the air.
the sudden take of violence,
seems reason never justifies.
the cold clank of chains,
the sobbing dirt of endless fields.
the baby gasping for life
in a room designed by hate.
the old woman dying on a makeshift bed,
rats running across the floor.
the old man left alone,
to read books that resemble life.
the church empty, the alleys full,
the eyes staring at the ground
in the unemployment line.
the hand too poor to be touched,
the body too old to be loved.
the jack-o-lantern face of god,
in a world too stoned to know.
the rope hanging from the ceiling,
the silence when words run out...
weeping...
time betrayed by the hands of death!

A Strong Mind and a Gentle Heart

I was on top of the mountain looking down,
There you were, stuck on the ground,
In life I had it all, never had to crawl,
If there was beauty, it was all around me,
Sunset glowing against a purple sky,
Why did I feel like I had to cry?

I saw your hand waving down below,
In my throat a lump began to grow,
The pain in my heart knew,
I have been missing you!

So where to now?
What will Grace allow?
You struggle up towards me,
Trying to break free from the hands,
Hands that hold you back,
Hoping that you will crack,

With a strong mind and gentle heart,
The dark will never keep us apart!
Deep runs my pain as I see your tears,
Your love greater than my fears,
You shine your light into my mind,
Shadows caused by my delusions,
Reflections of great confusion,

I wonder where will we meet?
Should I go down to the streets?
Will you make it on your own?
I just don't want to be alone!

With battered hands and bleeding heart,
Your strong mind shouts out loud,
Breaking free from the crowd,
You reach out to free my soul,
To tear the pain from a sad man,
A leap of faith spreads hope across the land,

Despite my doubts I need to see you,
Reaching down I lift you up,
Together we drink from His cup,
Was I your inspiration or you my consolation?
The crowds sense the moment, feel the grace,
As I reach out and touch your face!

Pages in the Book

in the midnite hour 'neath the street lamp shadows,
where lifetimes come and go, and salvation follows.
and the heart stripped bare has no need to lie...
the taste of your lips, the tears that i cant cry.

with beaten hands and swords into plows;
giving all that i am, more than i can do without.
i'd trade eternity for one moment by your side...
with your hand in mine and nothing left to hide.

making love in the dirt by the cementary stones,
the yip of the dogs while the wind howls and moans.
your fingers dig into my back, i dive into your soul...
where fire was discovered, spinning out of control.

you close the book, turn the page, walk out the door,
call it all a lie, say you dont love me anymore.
the scars of passion in the shadows 'neath your eyes...
hymns of hope and redemption where the sparrow flies.

pour me a drink, light a smoke, my hat and my heart,
looking for your image in the hunger of the dark.
truth and freedom and justice dissolve into dust...
struck blind and deaf, my soul turned to rust.

down the road past the house where nobody lives.
where love looks in a mirror, repents and forgives.
every moment wasted, every word unspoken turns...
the heart beats faster, but the fire slowly burns.

kiss my lips and bury me down by the willow tree.
take this weight from my heart, set my spirit free.
in the eyes of God and time you are my destiny...
i'm nothing but a river that flows into your sea.

say no prayers, now the time of praying is past.
what's last is now first, what's first is now last...
the song of the poet dies with a fatal look...
all that we are now... pages in the book.

A greedy person’s Cold ambition
Or could it be Cold windy nights
The pureness of Cold clear water
Or the alien aspect of Cold neon lights

The careless Cold shoulder
The unfeeling Cold heart
The curse of Cold nature
Cold hands held apart

Could it be Cold feet
Could it be cold fears
Could it be cold weather

Even above… being apart

When Darkness Comes

when darkness comes
the hands must account for
what they have done with
the kindness of light

the eyes must close and
see what darkness shows
apart from the clear
showings of the the
realities of brightness

the heart must start to
sing another song
perhaps lovelier this time
for some comfort
that there is nothing to fear
that darkness is not the enemy
but just the resting place
of those who want to rest
and get some sleep
and then float
so perfectly in the world
of dreams

Somebody Called You

Let me breathe so that you hear my voice
Let the rain fall but plead the moon to stay in place
Let each dropp sync to the rhythm of my heart
My heart beats so that you hear my song
A song of love dedicated from me to you
Dedicated from my heart and only to yours
Though two worlds apart I ask we let there be one heart in place
Not because I could use somebody like you
But because I want to be with somebody called you

Call the clouds to cover us and send a shower of blessings
Hold the hands of time so that this moment lasts
If in this a moment I dream let me dream a tale that's fair
Fairytales last forever so I'm going to love you till we see happily ever after
This is a moment I saved just for two
A moment I'll never regret
A moment I'll always cherish
Coz it's a moment that's meant to be
A lifetime loving somebody called you

Once upon a time I needed a more than friend,
So often I needed a pillar by my side
31 bricks could have made a pillar,
But only proverbs 31 defined an everlasting and even stronger pillar,
One called a woman of virtue
Adam's rib surely did suffice for a man's real best friend
So with every line words are drawn from my heart
Drawn by the beauty of your heart, personality and passion
Your love for God, yes the beauty that's true
Grace was sufficient and I received a gift I never deserved
It was all I needed, it was all I wanted
It was somebody called you

Take my hand and lead me away
Take me to a place of peace yet set for all to see
Tonight I'll let them know what you mean to me
More than a ruby, more than a diamond coz you are a gift by grace
I love you and I'll love you till the end of time so I'm here to stay
Other says they want someone like you
Other wish to use somebody like you
All I want is to a lifetime with somebody
Will that somebody please be you
