Life For The Living, Nothing More!

he lies awake,
the room cold and dark....
except for moonlight pouring

through the curtainless window....
she lies naked, wrapped into
every pore of him,

their breath hanging like small clouds.
the smell of love and woodsmoke,
the heartbeat of silence

resonates off bare walls....
no money, little food, tomorrow
to look for work......always tomorrow!

the sound of gunfire, and children's voices
haunt the back of memory forgotten.....
they called it history, the great change....

maybe just looking to fill the pot!
but for now just now,
the moment stolen and precious....

life for the living, nothing more.
he turned and wiped the hair from her face....
prayed the minutes would be slow,

watching her sleep!

Like memory

Love me like a memory
Never let me go
Hold me close forever
Let those feelings flow
Don’t look back at yesterday
You will only find the past
Love me in the here and now
We will truly make it last
Love me like a memory
I will love you from the heart
A love that’s ever lasting
Existing from the start
Love me like each heartfelt smile
That you will send my way
Love me more tomorrow
Precious moments in our day
Love me like a memory
Never with regret
The world looks bright and cheery
This heart will not forget
I promise that I will love you
Every moment of each day
A memory ongoing
It will not fade away
Love me like a heartbeat
A pulse that never ends
Arms wrapped around each other
Where we started out as friends
Love me like a memory
Our future appears so bright
I will love you every moment
Every day and every night

If Tomorrow Never Came

when you lie in your lover's arms,
do you remember
those frozen nights,

when the fire had died....
moonlight hanging like ice
in the window bare...

the wet pool of love steaming,
clouds of breath hanging
in the air with unspoken desire....

the baying of the old hound....
and two sets of footprints in the snow
leading down to the water.....

the buckets on the porch,
an axe, and the old truck....
not giving a damn

if tomorrow never came!

Stars That Waited To Fall

whose heart lies broken,
in tiny pieces reflecting even
the faintest hint of light?
whose soul is bruised,
whose lips are scarred?
whose tears fall,
like thunder in a cementary?
whose silence burns,
in the bitter cold?
whose breath hanging,
like clouds in the sunset?
whose hunger sharpens,
the web and the cave?
whose longing, whose storms,
whose desire that howls?
whose life hanging,
and who carried the cross?

who are we if not lovers,
if not dreamers who dream.
if not the gentleness of the hand,
and the fire of the tongue?
who are we if not history,
if not tomorrow and yesterday?
who are we if not the given,
stars that waited to fall?

These Dreams

She lies on the bed
With her hands in her head
And she screams
He gets a kick out of losing the plot so it seems
He makes you all laugh so she's the one
Doing harm
But how can you fight when she's not
The one under his arm

These dreams have let you down
Take it don't break it just turn it around
These dreams won't let you down

You never stopped loving his misfortunate
Lazy ways
All the memories that you should've had
Are a cabaret haze
There's just a hole where you know he
Should've been
There's no one worse off than you
When you can't describe what you've seen

These dreams have let you down
Take it don't break it just it turn around
These dreams won't let you down

Where do you go when you're all alone
In your bed
Do you cry in your sleep cos it's
Better unsaid
Have you forgotten your past because
That's how it seems
Is it too hard to think so you edit
Your dreams
And play them back again and again

These dreams have let you down
Take it don't break it just turn it around
These dreams won't let you down

These dreams have let you down
Take it don't break it just turn it around
These dreams won't let you down

You've got tomorrow tomorrow
You've got tomorrow tomorrow
You've got tomorrow tomorrow
You've got tomorrow tomorrow
You've got tomorrow tomorrow

Whenever I Say Your Name

Whenever I say your name, whenever I call to mind your face
Whatever bread's in my mouth, whatever the sweetest wine that I taste
Whenever your memory feeds my soul, whatever got broken becomes whole
Whenever I'm filled with doubts that we will be together
Wherever I lay me down, wherever I put my head to sleep
Whenever I hurt and cry, whenever I got to lie awake and weep
Whenever I kneel to pray, whenever I need to find a way
I'm calling out your name
Whenever those dark clouds hide the moon
Whenever this world has gotten so strange
I know that something's gonna change
Something's gonna change
Whenever I say your name, Whenever I say your name, I'm already praying, I'm already praying
I'm already filled with a joy that I can't explain
Wherever I lay me down, wherever I rest my weary head to sleep
Whenever I hurt and cry, whenever I got to lie awake and weep
Whenever I'm on the floor
Whatever it was that I believed before
Whenever I say your name, whenever I say it loud, I'm already praying
Whenever this world has got me down, whenever I shed a tear
Whenever the TV makes me mad, whenever I'm paralyzed with fear
Whenever those dark clouds fill the sky, whenever I lose the reason why
Whenever I'm filled with doubts that we will be together
Whenever the sun refuse to shine, whenever the skies are pouring rain
Whatever I lost I thought was mine whenever I close my eyes in pain
Whenever I kneel to pray, whenever I need to find a way
I'm calling out your name
Whenever this dark begins to fall
Whenever I'm vulnerable and small
Whenever I feel like I could die
Whenever I'm holding back the tears that I cry
Whenever I say your name, w

Make Tomorrow

Put on the dress in which you were married
Pull down the veil til your eyes are hid
Can you remember where we both came from
Let us do as we did
Look at tomorrow today
Making tomorrow today
Making tomorrow today
Making tomorrow today
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow today
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow today
Put back the photo under your window
Put down the phone that you hold in your hand
Put away these things that stand in between us
Let us be what we can
When it seems
Hopeless
When it seems
Hopeless
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow today
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow today
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow today
What better measure of what you were doing here
Then what you can leave behind
All the children of your children's children
Do you ever think what they're going to find
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow
Where the sacred meet the scared
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow
Where the dreamer's dream is dared
In each of us
A dream can burn like the sun
Let's try it all one more time
To get this lesson learned
Sitting up in a spaceship
Looking down at the earth
You wonder what they all stuggling for
What's it all really worth
Making tomorrow today
Making tomorrow today
Make tomorrow
Make tomorrow

Tomorrow

Wont you come back tomorrow?
Wont you come back tomorrow?
Wont you come back tomorrow?
Can I sleep tonight?
Outside, somebodys outside.
Somebodys lookin at the door.
Theres a black car parked at the side of the road.
So go to the door.
Let him out.
Go in outside, mother.
Go in outside.
Wont you come back tomorrow?
Wont you come back tomorrow?
Wont you come back tomorrow?
Who broke the window?
Who broke down the door?
Who told the cutter?
And who was he for?
Who heals the bounds?
Who heals the stars?
Open the door.
Wont be back tomorrow?
Wont be back tomorrow?
Wont you come back tomorrow?
Can I sleep tonight?
Cause I want you, I want you.
I really want you.
I want you to be back tomorrow.
I want you to be back tomorrow.
Will you be back tomorrow?
Open up the way to love, oh god.
Come back, heal me.
Jesus, come back.
Im gonna be there tomorrow.

Take Me To Tomorrow

This song was first released on the take me to tomorrow album. it is the only album it has been released on.
Hey everybody, tell me how do you feel
Are you satisfied with your life
Do you think its real
Tell me how is your head
What are your dreams
Do you have any plans
Do you have any schemes
Do you care about - about anybody
Id like to know
Is the answer no
Take me to tomorrow
Take me there today
Ive had my fill of sorrow and living this way
Take me to tomorrow
Thats where Id like to be
The day after tomorrow is waiting for me
Hey everybody, whats on your mind
Do you think theres nowhere else to go
Theres nothing left to find
Are you happy where you are
Do you have anything to share
Do you think youre going to waste your life
Spending it there
Would you like to find a way out
Do think its worth a try
Id like to know
Is the answer no well maybe so
Take me to tomorrow
Take me there today
Ive had my fill of sorrow and living this way
Take me to tomorrow
Thats where Id like to be
The day after tomorrow is waiting for me
Take me to tomorrow
Take me there today
Ive had my fill of sorrow and living your way
Take me to tomorrow
Thats where Id like to be
The day after tomorrow is waiting
The day after tomorrow is waiting
The day after tomorrow is waiting for me

Too Many Lies

too many lies,
desecrate the ground.
the footprints of fallen angels,
covered by the dust of hate.
spoon fed history turned bitter,
the sound of children's voices lost.
even the old juke joints,
deserted and vacant.

handmade guitars,
strings made of human flesh.
the howl of an angry wind,
pierces cardboard shelters.
cars abandoned on the side of the road,
fresh turned earth, no hands to plant.

passion's legs wrapped around,
the bodies now hollow.
young girls fall like rain,
forgotten by time.
to be madly in love,
and pant with desire...
all echoes and rust!

when bibles become weapons,
and the cost is too high.
dead poets whisper,
neath the old hanging tree.
flags flown at half mast,
and the factories are closed.

and you just cant remember
your grandfather's face!

I Like Smells

i like smells...
woodsmoke, and food,
black coffee in the morning.
the smell of rain,
of mud, of wetness.
the smell of the walls
of the cave, of the stone,
of the moss...
the smell of sex, of arousal,
of a woman's neck.
the smell of pine needles,
of an old house,
of fresh turned earth...
the smell of old books,
of old dogs, of shadows
without form...
i've even become accustomed
to the smell of death!

Small Glimpses Of Holiness

i can remember being a kid,
and going to church on Sunday....
can remember the way the sunlight
danced through the stained glass
windows, the smell of the old
hymnals, the way the hard bench
hurt my back....
can remember singing the old hymns...
(sometimes they come to me
in my sleep....)

but i cant remember any particular sermon!

it's funny what we equate with God,
and holiness... and what we dont!

just as easy i can remember being alone
in the woods, watching sunlight pour
through the pines, listening to the gurgling
of the creek.... and the way the earth felt
beneath my bare feet.....

or the first time i ever made love
to a girl... in the front seat of an
old Rambler.... moonlight sifting through
the trees... and the barking of a dog.

or sleeping in a cave, on the run, and the
damp darkness like a womb enveloping
me... with only the sound of a nearby
waterfall piercing the stillness....

or standing by my mother's grave...
watching a part of myself go back
to the dust...

or the sound of my children's voices
when they just needed assurance....

small glimpses of holiness drifting
through an old man's mind... on the way
back home.

Y... Magical Moments of Amazing Beauty

Walking on the beach
Children seeking shells
Running around, having fun

Evening sun setting over the land
Shining a wonderful light on the breaking waves
The sky soft and blue

Tattered clouds above the sea
Taking on a breath-taking mixture of colours
Yellow orange in front, purple gray tales

Fluffy here and solid there
Living colours reflected
in the green of the deep sea

Part of me wanted to sing
But my mind ran out of words
Magical moments of amazing beauty

After 5 minutes it was gone
The dark clouds were dark again
The green sea had turned gray

The sky was still soft
I tried to close my eyes,
Focus on the sound of the waves

But the magic of the moment was gone
The colours had vanished
Leaving nothing behind but a memory

Nothing more than a memory
Nothing less than a memory
A memory to cherish

A memory of moments
Magical moments of amazing beauty
When will the next one come?

Angels Lie

She sent me to a place where Angels scream me to sleep
Swallowing mouthfuls of pain, I'm in too deep
A place where my soul fails to exist
Pretty little flowers carve away at my wrist

Heaven sent for my demise
It suffocated me with your lies
I hold back the tears until it's blood I cry
I bleed myself to sleep when Angels lie

Lies Lies Lies
I'm choking on your lies

A summers day with acid rain
Head held high I fight the pain
Crimson drips from the corner of my eyes
Behind your innocent smile there's a thousand lies

Heaven sent for my demise
It suffocated me with your lies
I hold back the tears until it's blood I cry
I bleed myself to sleep when Angels lie

Lies Lies Lies
I'm choking on your lies

The clouds pierce right through my vision
Cherubs with razorblades drive me into collision
My ears bleed like hanging Angel cries
Sleep smotheres my face and all I see are lies

Heaven sent for my demise
It suffocated me with your lies
I hold back the tears until it's blood I cry
I bleed myself to sleep when Angels lie

Lies Lies Lies
I'm choking on your lies

The Sadness of The Empty Home

The light flickers on
Illuminates the empty hallway
The thud, click of a door in closing
Brings a silence to the room
A heavy sigh escapes
A look to the mirror sees only
Tired eyes looking back
A bag lain upon the small table
The light turned back off
On route to yet another room
Light creeps through the window
Allowing enough to see
The sound of a running tap
Filling the kettle for a final drink
Keys thrown upon a side
The clatter of cups and spoons
Then further silence
Now the creaking of a staircase
Another door opened
Another light flicked on
The curtains drawn to the world
Drink set beside the bed
The silence of the empty home
Fills the heart with loneliness
A television switched into life
Nothing worth watching
Just a sound there to fill
The silence and the sadness
Of the empty home

The History Of Tomorrow

I want to tell you the history of tomorrow
It’s the history of how our leaders fulfilled a promise of light
By dumping us in the dark with pits everywhere

I want to tell you the history of tomorrow
It’s the history of how our leaders fulfilled a promise of food
By asking us to chop several fire-woods to heat up a pot full of stones

I want to tell you the history of tomorrow
It’s the history of how our leaders fulfilled a promise of job creation
By making us slaves on our own soil

I want to tell you the history of tomorrow
It’s the history of how our leaders fulfilled a promise of education
By dumping us in dilapidated buildings without teachers

I want to tell you the history of tomorrow
It’s the history of how our leaders fulfilled a promise of accountability
By looting our treasury and asking us for yet another term in office

I want to tell you the history of tomorrow
It’s the history of how our leaders fulfilled a promise of safety
By leaving pot holes large enough to swallow countless accident victims on our roads

I want to tell you the history of tomorrow
It’s the history of how our bows and arrows
Would secure our future

I want to tell you the history of tomorrow
It’s the history of a country, a country with countless heroes
It’s the history of a country, a country with countless robbers
Robbers with fame
Robbers without shame
Robbers that we would roast with flame

All Hope

All hope lies in tomorrow
Betrayed by yesterday
For every new horizon
There is a price to pay
The piper plays his tune
Holds out a hand for gilt
The memory cries a river
The wrong side of spilt milk

All hope lies in tomorrow
Forgetting yesterday
All hope is stored in thoughts
Arranged to form a play
There’s laughter and there’s intrigue
There’s sadness and there’s pain
Yet by the final act
Laughter rules again

All hope lies in tomorrow
Aphrodite by my side
To walk a brave new world
Athena as my guide
All hope lies in tomorrow
Under Helios’s light
To trust tomorrow to Themis
Her justice and her right

Brautigan....

ok, no money,
ok, there is no fame,
there is nothing to expect
from those mothers of art,
their children unrecognized
no share, no will,
nothing to expect, from all these
children of art.

ok, you sit alone, by the window
you put your folded arms,
you look outside
the people pass you by
and they do not bother
looking at you for the second time

ok, nothing delicious for breakfast
this month's rental is not paid
electricity bill lies there calling your attention
this is a poor guy, inside a foul room,
shits are all around

favorite expression: f....
age forgotten
wrinkles multiply
sour face
forested hair
thin chin, deep sunken eyes
restless fingers

ok, no friend really wants to read a poem
or if they read, one visit, it is out of pity
not even respect

don't cry. there is nothing worth crying.
just sit there

tomorrow they will bring the news
a friend writes a letter that for once he will dabble in poetry
and he has written one
though too personalized and needs further editing

you look at the ceiling as you lie hopeless in your bed,
you see images of hope
nothing angelic, there are no wings, no halo
not white, blurred, brownish, chinks
pieces, naked words, unfinished dialogues,

the unknown people at the other room
can hear you laughing
you laugh so hard
alone

perhaps, this time, you shall win.

I Pinch But Flesh Does Not Answer

I pinch but flesh does not answer
I know I do not have long here
A wave of hesitation washes wonderfully over

On your face a serene smile
But you are silent
I steel a breath and drift to your side, through the daisies and buttercups

Innermost mind more endless than the universe
But trustily it searches for our favourite haunt
You smell so very real and for a tenuous moment I am content

My weightless body feels small, wrapped in the memory of your arms
You cup my face in your familiar hand  and I taste  my tears
You never left me, did you? You did?  oh. I wake to a damp pillow.

It is best I am not the keeper of my dreams
The gate is unlocked and you are free to come and go as you please
For if not, in sleep, death shared, as I would choose to sleep forever.

Mouths To Feed...

the wind called...
and i went walking,
down hard edged streets,
past the abandoned and forsaken...

through dirt and filth,
grime, grease, and soot.
down past the edge of town...
i made camp by the tracks.

haunted by the sounds
of living now just echoes,
echoes and shadows,
shadows almost forgotten.

haunted by the faces,
the dreams, the fires now ash...
the smell of need and
the harsh stench of hunger.

i made a leanto from yesterday's boards,
built a small fire, hunched
against the cold and the howl.
into a small pot all that was left,

and waited for the Guest to arrive.
day became sunset, sunset night.
the darkness wrapped with murky doubt.
then, from behind the clouds,

one star shone through...
and i knew the time,
i knew the answer...
no time for sleep, no sleep for dreams,

i spent the night making ready.
and stood to face the dawn,
with nothing left to hide,
and nothing left to cling to!

a new day, perhaps my last,
one day to make a life.
i turned back towards the town,
and went in search of...

mouths to feed, tears to wipe away!
