(It's Hard) Letting You Go
It ain't no fun lying down to sleep
And there ain't no secrets left for me to keep
I wish the stars up in the sky would all just call in sick
And the clouds would take the moon out on some one-way trip
I drove all night down streets that wouldn't bend
But somehow they drove me back here once again
To the place I lost at love

Letting You Go
It ain't no fun lying down to sleep
And there ain't no secrets left for me to keep
I wish the stars up in the sky
Would all just call in sick
And the clouds would take the moon out
On some one-way trip
I drove all night down streets that wouldn't bend
But somehow they drove me back here once again
To the place i lost at love, and the place i lost my soul
I wish i'd just burn down this place that we called home
It would all have been so easy
If you'd only made me cry
And told me how you're leaving me
To some organ grinder's lullaby
It's hard, so hard - it's tearing out my heart
It's hard letting you go
Now the sky, it shines a different kind of blue
And the neighbor's dog don't bark like he used to
Well - me, these days
I just miss you - it's the nights that i go insane
Unless you're coming back for me
That's one thing i know that won't change
It's hard, so hard - it's tearing out my heart
It's hard letting you go
Now some tarot card shark said i'll draw you a heart
And we'll find you somebody else new
But i've made my last trip to those carnival lips
When i bet all that i had on you
It's hard, it's hard, it's hard, so hard
It's hard letting you go
It's hard, so hard, it's tearing out my heart
But it's hard letting you go

I Drove All Night
I had to escape
The city was sticky and cruel
Maybe I should have called you first
But I was dying to get to you
I was dreaming while I drove
The long straight road ahead, uh, huh
Could taste your sweet kisses
Your arms open wide
This fever for you is just burning me up inside
I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
What in this world
Keeps us from tearing apart
No matter where I go I hear
The beating of our one heart
I think about you
When the night is cold and dark
No one can move me
The way that you do
Nothing erases the feeling between me and you
I drove all night to get to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep
To make love to you
Is that alright
I drove all night
Could taste your sweet kisses

I Just Drove By
I always go the other way
But my car drove me down today
To a little house on the older side of town
Back when things were never hard
I used to play there in that yard
And I just drove by to see if things had changed
Cokes were just a nickel then
And across the street at the five and ten
A lot of things were cheap and square and strange
And the life we had might have been
But it was one we loved believing in
And I just drove by to see if things had changed
I wondered now
If love is still the way it was back then
I need to know
That life is still a place worth living in
There it is, just like it was
A house where there was always love
I just drove by to see if things had changed
In a world thats seen its better days
Its good to know some things remain
The same, though standing still is not times way
Take to heart while in its spring
That love is just a fragile thing
I just drove by to see if things had changed

The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down
This song appears on two albums, and was first released on the whose garden was

Virgil caine is the name, I served on the danville train
So much cavalry came and tore up the tracks again
In the summer of sixty-five we were hungry just barely alive
By may the tenth richmond had fell its a time I remember so well
The night they drove old dixie down and the bells were ringin
The night they drove old dixie down and the people were singin
They went la na na na na na la na na na na na na na
Back home in tennessee my wife called out for me
Say virgil come quick and see there goes robert e lee
I dont mind choppin wood and I dont care if da money aint good
You take what you need and save the rest but they should never have taken the
Very best
The night they drove old dixie down and the bells were ringin
The night they drove old dixie down and the people were singin
They went la na na na na na la na na na na na na na
Like my father before me he was a workin man
Like my brother above me he took a rebels stand
He was just eighteen proud and brave when a yankee laid him in his grave
I swear by the blood beneath my feet you cant raise a caine back up when hes
In defeat
The night they drove old dixie down and the bells were ringin
The night they drove old dixie down and the people were singin
They went la na na na na na la na na na na na na na

I Drove
No back seat rider.
Cruising to view a life...
And selecting scenes,
Preferred and/or liked.
I drove.
Cautious.
Even though a few accidents,
Caused me to pay more attention.
Although that was meant.
I ran out of gas.
And stumbled when I pushed to fast.
But I finally found my path identified.
I felt at home!
I knew I had arrived.
I'm glad I took it upon myself...
To learn to drive.
Although my preference is to walk.
Observe.
Touch and enjoy life.
If I had cruised through it...
I would not have known,
How much of it I would have missed.
I drove with hope.
And faith kept me blessed,
To see my life from the driver's seat.
I drove over hills and through darkened valleys.
And there awakened to touch the sky at sunrise.
I drove at midnight.
And the stars would keep my dreams alive.
As obstacles kept my drive alive through thunder.
I drove...
Until I knew and felt the Sun,
Would come to chase rain clouds of storms away!
Although my preference is to walk.
And I do.
If I choose...
Today!

Karma spayment
Uh-oh down low
I am not who I want to be
I probably will not ever be
I drove my car june 14th
I drove it right down the street
I had not had any sleep
So I ate minithins to stay awake
You crashed your car right into me
There was two days I didnt sleep
Uh-oh downlow
I am not who I want to be
I probably will not ever be
I took a trip down to california
Karma payment plan
My car broke down out in the street
The radiator sprung a leak
I met this guy he said he could help me
Im on the karma payment plan
We went to his house and did some speed
He said karma would pay for this deed
He got it fixed and he started to scare me
I ditched him eventually
And came back for the car
The next morning
Im on the karma payment plan
I went to la the next day I got
Jacked in a real bad way
I cant tell you
Its a long story

Virgil, quick, come see,
There goes robert e. lee!
Now I dont mind choppin wood,

Ya take what ya need and ya leave the rest,

How Time Passed
I told you not to go, but you went anyway
You screamed I love you and I screamed it back
You said I’ll be back before I wake up
Right then and there I started to worry
Staying up all night crying my self to sleep
I heard a cry in the night, but it was just my child
Then a thought struck me he never said good bye
Why wouldn’t you say good night to your son?
In the middle of the night I prayed to god
“Please bring back my husband safely to his family.”
The sun finally rose and my husband hadn’t come home
I drove to his ex house, his mom, friends, and hide out
He was gone and no evidence was around
Fear was in my eyes as I looked at my child
I called all the investigators and police to find my love
They couldn’t find him and I started to cry
That same day I saw you on the news you lost your memory
I rushed down there and gave you a kiss and you said honey is dinner ready
I cried and laugh thinking god you’re still alive
I knew you didn’t disappear or leave us behind

Houston
It's been three days, two hours
And a minute
Since she blasted off
Breaking every speed limit
As fast and far away from me
As she could get
Well, she said,
You'll straighten up one way or another
The Don't Mess With Texas bumper
Sticker on the bumper
Said it all as she drove off into the red sunset
She was right and I've learned my lesson
Here on out, I'm a man on a mission
Houston, we have a problem
If you can put a man on the moon
I'm sure there's something you can do
To help a love a little off course
Well, I'm losin' her,
Heaven knows I can't do that
I need her back
So come in Houston, we have a problem
She left with a suitcase full of resentment
She told me that I was afraid
Of commitment
She said don't call me baby, I'll call you
Well it's been days and I ain't
Heard nothing
Somebody's just got to do something
Houston, we have a problem
If you can put a man on the moon
I'm sure there's something you can do
To help a love a little off course
Well, I'm losin' her,
Heaven knows I can't do that
I need her back
So come in Houston, we have a problem
If I could do anything I would give everything
To make her come home
I only need a chance to say if
I could find a way
To let her know, come in
Houston, we have a problem
If you can put a man on the moon
I'm sure there's something you can do
To help a love a little off course
I'm losin' her, heaven knows I can't do that
I need her back
So come in Houston, we have a problem
We have a problem

Try Me Again
Well I drove past your house last night
And I looked in your window
Lately I aint been feelin right
And I dont know the cure, no
Still I cant keep from wonderin
If I still figure in your life
Could you take me back and try me again
Could you try me again
I drove around in this lonesome town
Felt just like a beginner
Friends I saw, they just brought me down
Theyre so cynical and bitter
Well, I guess Im just like them now
I never thought Id turn out like that
Could you take me back and try me again
Could you try me again
Well you say that I cheated
I was not what you needed
Well youre not being kind
When you say you tried
And you know you lied
My hands are tied
Oh, try me again
Im gonna knock on your door
til you say youll come back again
And love me some more
Oh, try me again
Could you try me again
Oh, try me again

We were on patrol in the desert
We were on patrol in the desert,
drove through a part of the Namib
with a brown armoured car
at a place where there were firm ground
and camped for the night,
seeing the trip as a type of joy ride
and during the day the sun was utterly hot
but the night was black and icy cold
and we counted bright stars
that looked shot-gunned into the sky
and the Bushmen trackers
sat round a fire where they prepared tea
reminding me of the British army
but we were continents away
in another country, fighting a enemy
that did not bother them.

We Belong Together
I didn't mean it
When I said I didn't love you so
I should have held on tight
I never should've let you go
I didnt know nothing
I was stupid
I was foolish
I was lying to myself
I could not fathom that I'd ever
Be without your love
Never imagined I'd be
Sitting here beside myself
Cause I didn't know you
Cause I didn't know me
But I thought I knew everything
I've never felt.
The feeling that I'm feeling now
That I don't hear your voice
Or have you touch and kiss your lips
Cause I don't have a choice
Or what I wouldn't give
To have you lying by my side
Right here
Cause baby
When you left
I lost a part of me
It's still so hard to believe
Come back baby please cause
We belong together
Who else am I gonna lean on
When times get rough
Who's gonna talk to me on the phone
Till the sun comes up
Who's gonna take your place
There aint nobody better
Ohh baby, baby
We belong together
I can't sleep at night
When you are on my mind
Bobby Womack's on the radio
Sing to me
'If you think you're lonely now'
Wait a minute
This is too deep (too deep)
I gotta change the station
So I turn the dial
Trying to catch a break
And then I hear Babyface
I only think of you
As breaking my heart
I'm trying to keep it together
But I'm falling apart
I'm feeling all out of my element
Throwing things
Crying
Trying to figure out
Where the hell I went wrong
The pain reflected in this song
Ain't even half of what
I'm feeling inside
I need you
Need you back in my life baby
When you left
I lost a part of me
It's still so hard to believe
Come back baby please cause
We belong together
Who else am I gonna lean on
When times get rough
Who's gonna talk to me on the phone
Till the sun comes up
Who's gonna take your place
There ain't nobody better
Ohh baby, baby
We belong together
[Bridge]
Ohh , Baby , Baby
We Belong together baby
When you left
I lost a part of me
It's still so hard to believe
Come back baby please
Cause we belong together
Who am i going to lean on
When times get rough
Who's going to talk to me
Til the sun comes up
Who's going to take your place
There ain't nobody better
Ohh baby, baby
We belong together

Some Men
Lyrics & music: daryl hall
Some men call half way around the world if theyve got a phone game to play
Then again some men call their mom every day
Old boys drink bad beer and throw the cans out in the street
Playboys sit and sip red wine, some drink malt whiskey neat
So if you can, you talk about some men
If you can, you can talk about some men
Baby if you can, you can talk about some men
If you can, you can talk about some men
Colonels collect animal heads and hang their guns up on the wall
Corn balls watch television then pull a gun out in the hall
Crew-cut rainbows hang on streets hoping theyll find a friend
Odd balls running fast enough hope that they wont find their end
So if you can, you can talk about some men
Baby if you can, you can talk about some men
Sleep all night work all day
Work all night sleep all day
Drink all night sick all day
Sick all night drink all day
Dream all night if you can
We aint soldiers so dont generalize
No categories because it takes all kinds
You can sleep all night you can work all day
You can trip all night peak all day
If you can, you can talk about some men

Her Worst Nightmare
she left the one
who has her heart
for the one she thought
could give her a fresh start
he called everyday
even when she went away
then the first pin dropped
the game hadn't stopped
she overlooked it
as a mistake
little did she know
he was just a fake
he claimed to need her
he claimed to give his heart
but when she learnt the truth
it tore her apart
it drove her crazy
to think he could lie
and treat her like nothing
it made her cry
each discovery
worst than the last
she regretted
giving up her past
she decided
to move on
from this relationship
she was gone
she told him so
but he would accept
over and over
he'd just reject
he drove her crazy
he wouldn't let her be
day and night
he called putting up a fight
finally she cracked
and let him have it
threats and curses
only helped a bit
a day or two
is all she got
then he started
again to stir her pot
pretending not to notice
was all she could do
nothing helped
she needed a clue
over and over
it happened again
as soon as she forgot him
it drove her insane
she now had a stalker
she now felt cornered
she needed to get rid of him
she wanted to look forward

Chamber
I lost myself last night, I lost myself in you,
Your world is a chamber,
I walk into your room, I wish this was my tomb,
You're pure,
burning slowly, she's sleeping softly
Your mind is a stranger,
If this is comfort, a mutual feeling,
I'm falling, myself,
In love and love,
Tell me why I am lying here with you
Just moving swinzy, but I am burning
It's dark but it's still so bright,
You kiss me softly, I stop and lips touch
I'm falling myself
In love and love,
(every night)
I'm never there for you,
Tell me why I am lying here with you every night,
I'll never know the truth,
Tell me why I am lying here with you every night,
I thought that you were gone, but you're still a part of me
Your spirit still holds on, playing cards with me
Emotions in this truck, made for if you dream,
I left my options stuck, still be thinking of you and me.
Why I am lying here with you
Why I am lying here with you
I'm never there for us,
Tell me why I am lying here with you every night,
I'll never know the truth,
Tell me why I am lying here with you every night,
I'm never there for you,
Tell me why I am lying here with you every night,
I'll never know the truth,
Why?

Night Secrets
Night Secrets…
No more my aching heart
As you sleep silent in my breast
Awakening in the night
I await your sweet caress
My aching, barren arms in vain
So many times I've wept
At night upon my pillow
While in my bed I slept
Night secrets in the darkness
Like dark, murky shadows
That linger in the night
The rain softly whispers
Through the wind and trees
Carrying my secrets
To the moon shining bright
Secrets kept deep within my heart
They whisper in the night
No one else may listen
There's no one else in sight
They echo through the evening
Those things I cannot share
My secrets whispering in the darkness
Like a breeze fluttering through air
Until then…
I'll wait my love
For your soft, caressing touch
With the stars softly glowing
Through the window in my room
I lie quietly in my bed
With the shadows of the night
Whispers flow in the breeze
Sending them gently to the moon
Until then…
I'll wait til you come again
When I can softly whisper in your ear
Those secrets that I carry
Sharing secrets...
With the one I love so dear
Until then I'll wait...
For my heart belongs to only you

Early Works - The Night
I lay on my bed on a sleepless night
gaze out my window at the stars bright.
The moon now and then gets hazy
as across the sky clouds drift lazily.
The night is cooled by a gentle breeze
that seems to whisper as if ruffles the leaves
and all creatures large and small
into sleep tenderly fall.
The night is peaceful as sounds subside
and stars now and then behind clouds hide.
The wise old owl perches high at night
gazing down to see if everything is all right.
As along paths trodden many times before
descend the cooing lovers once more
to their own private paradise
rich in tranquillity.
The flowers that in the breeze did bend
close their petals to the night again
and the little birds that flew in the morn
nestle in their nest warm.
Sleep endures all
no matter whether large or small
and so must I do this night
until I’m called by the morning light.
Date unknown.
