He outstripped Time with but a Bout
865
He outstripped Time with but a Bout,
He outstripped Stars and Sun
And then, unjaded, challenged God
In presence of the Throne.
And He and He in mighty List
Unto this present, run,
The larger Glory for the less
A just sufficient Ring.

When Greed Outstrips Needs
When Greed Outstrips Needs (A Rondel of 13 lines)
When outstripped are our needs by Greed
Or love of Fame our still outweighs,
We rush along on mirky ways;
All moral laws we cease to heed.
Traffic signals failing to read,
At break-neck speed our aims we chase,
When outstripped are our needs by Greed
Or love of Fame our skill outweighs.
To harming others should this lead,
So what? For Fame so strong our craze,
The banner 'buy or bribe' we raise!
We mind not making others bleed,
When outstripped are our needs by Greed.

Sandals
She wears
sandals.
Her mother
bought her
the leather
sandals
as a birthday
present;
She presents
the sandals
to the
world.
Not to
me.
I feel
like
an outstripped
sandal
when
she
takes
off
the sandals
in
my
bed.

Sonnet 32: If thou survive my well-contented day
If thou survive my well-contented day
When that churl Death my bones with dust shall cover,
And shalt by fortune once more re-survey
These poor rude lines of thy deceasèd lover,
Compare them with the bett'ring of the time,
And though they be outstripped by every pen,
Reserve them for my love, not for their rhyme,
Exceeded by the height of happier men.
O, then vouchsafe me but this loving thought:
"Had my friend's Muse grown with this growing age,
A dearer birth than this his love had brought
To march in ranks of better equipage;
But since he died and poets better prove,
Theirs for their style I'll read, his for his love."

Rome
IMPERIAL city, slumb'ring on the throne
Of vanished empire, once thy voice and hands
Rocked the wide world; thy finger wove the lands
Into thy girdle; who for crown alone
Didst wear the stars. Yet still in undertone
5
Man hears thy deathless utterance, tho' Time's sands
Roll centuries; thou clasp'st the earth with bands
Of speech, art, law, and subtle powers unknown.
Thou wast not meant to die; thy mighty heart
Pulsed with the universe. Thy deeds of old
10
Flame like the sunset skies thro' clouds which throng;
They blazon on thy throne a name apart
In red of mighty victories, in gold
Of all things valorous and great and strong.

The Rower's Chant
ROW till the land dip 'neath
The sea from view.
Row till a land peep up,
A home for you.
Row till the mast sing songs
Welcome and sweet,
Row till the waves, outstripped,
Give up, dead beat.
Row till the sea-nymphs rise
To ask you why
Rowing you tarry not
To hear them sigh.
Row till the stars grow bright
Like certain eyes.
Row till the noon be high
As hopes you prize.
Row till you harbour in
All longing's port.
Row till you find all things
For which you sought.

Who Were You Thinkin bout?
Who were you thinkin bout
Who were you thinkin about
Who were you thinkin bout
Were you thinkin bout me, baby
The first time she touched you hand ?
Were you thinkin bout me, baby
Did you forget you were my man
Were you thinking of me when you removed your ring ?
Or did you just think I would not think anything ?
Who were you thinkin about? who were you thinkin about?
Who were you thinkin bout? who were you thinkin about?
Who were you thinkin bout? who were you thinkin about?
Were you thinkin bout me, baby ?
Each time you kissed her lips ?
Were you thinkin bout me, baby ?
When your hands were on her hips?
Were you thinkin bout me did she do it like I do ?
Did you ever think of anyone but you now ?
Who were you thinkin bout? who were you thinkin about?
Who were you thinkin bout? who were you thinkin about?
Who were you thinkin bout? who were you thinkin about?
Were you thinking I would understand ?
And that I was a fool, and that I would never suspect
You were doing wrong ?
And tell me did you feel bad ? did it feel good ?
Did it feel like you thought it would ?
And I would never know ?
What you were thinking ?
Sure werent thinkin bout me
You were thinkin bout her, baby
You were thinkin bout you, baby
You werent thinkin bout me
Who were you thinkin bout? who were you thinkin about?
Who were you thinkin bout? who were you thinkin about?
Who were you thinkin bout? who were you thinkin about?
Sure werent thinkin bout me
Sure werent thinkin bout me
Who were you thinkin bout?
Sure werent thinkin bout me
Yeah, sure werent thinkin bout me
Im sure not thinkin bout you

Bible in Poetry: Revelation 4
1And then, I looked and saw a door
Before me, open in heaven.
The voice I had first heard, then spoke,
A trumpet-like to me and said,
'You come up here, and I’ll show you
What ought to take place after this.'
2At once, I was in Spirit’s way,
And there before me lay a throne,
In heaven, on which someone sat.
3 The one who sat upon it looked
Akin to jasper, carnelian.
An emerald-like rainbow lay,
Encircling throne in gorgeous way.
4Around the throne were twenty-four
More thrones, and elders sat on them.
They’re clad in dress of purest white,
And wore gold crowns upon their heads.
5 And from the throne arose flashes
Of lightning and peals of thunder.
Before the throne, blazed seven lamps,
And these were God’s seven Spirits.
6 Before the throne, there was a sea
Of glass that appeared crystal-clear.
Around the throne, in the center,
There were four living creatures, who
Had eyes both in front and in back.
7The first creature was lion-like,
The second one was like an ox,
The third one had a face like man,
The fourth looked flying eagle-like.
8Each of the creatures had six wings,
Covered with many eyes around,
And present ev’n under its wings.
All day and night, they said non-stop:
'Holy, holy, holy Lord, God,
The Almighty, who was, and is,
And is to come.'
9And whenever the creatures gave
Glory, honor and thanks to Him,
Who sits upon the mighty throne,
And who lives for ever and ever,
10 The elders fell down before Him,
Who sat upon the heav’nly throne,
And worshipped Him who lives forev’r.
They lay their crowns before the throne and say:
11'You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory, honor, pow’r,
For You created all the things,
And by Your will, were they created,
And have their being forever.'

Ring Da Bell
I've been talkin to some friends of mine about you boy
They say you're bout to have a child
When you goin' tell me bout it
This other chick your sleepin' with
Now you gotta deal with it
Hope you've found happiness
I've found myself in such a mess
With you
and I put way to much love
Into you
Through the one day
we'll be true
and time after time
I stuck with you
but now I'm too through
Cause I've been the fool
Sittin' round too long
I think its about time
That I ring da bell and carry on
I forgave you before
But its too far long
I think its bout time
That I ring da bell and move along
You said it was a mistake
On one night you saw her late
Must of been for pure affection
Boy you didn't have protection
You had to think of me
But you did never see
Yourself in this predicament
You never thought that it would catch up
With you
and I put way to much love
Into you
Through the one day
we'll be true
and time after time
I stuck with you
but now I'm too through
Cause I've been the fool
Sittin' round too long
I think its about time
That I ring da bell and carry on
I forgave you before
But its too far long
I think its bout time
That I ring da bell and move along
Cause I've been the fool
Sittin' round too long
I think its about time
That I ring da bell and carry on
I forgave you before
But its too far long
I think its bout time
That I ring da bell and move along
How awful the way
You treated me
Gave you everything
So hurt to say
You didn't tell me
Can't wait to leave

The High Priest
Nay, why do foolish politicians strive
To win a fleeting popularity?
In vain, in vain, they jealously contrive
To turn the doting Public Eye from Me.
What was this land, this nation, destined for?
For Art, Trade, Politics? All out of place.
Behold, I am the Sporting Editor!
I call the race!
Reviewers, leader writers - what are they?
Subs., poets, novelists? Scribes of a sort
Mere puny scribbling creatures of a day;
While I, the people's idol, stand for Sport!
For mark, when inspiration falls on me,
What recks the public of that nameless band?
I ope' my lips, and wisdom, gushing free,
O'erflows the land.
I lift my voice, and, lo! an army wakes
A mighty host, a hundred thousand strong
To spread the message; while the nation quakes
And thunders with the burden of my song:
'Ten lengths from home 'Gray Lad' outstripped 'The Witch,'
And passed the post by just a short neck, first.'
These are the words, the pregnant words, for which
The land's athirst.
They are the children of my brain, mine own!
These mighty words for which the people yearn;
The product of my genius alone!
Would you begrudge the laurels that I earn?
Mark you, yon sturdy native, strong o' limb,
That leans against the lamp-post o'er the way
Approach, and learn of my great fame from him.
Approach and say:
'Awake! Arise! A curse on him who waits!
Behold, young man, thy country needs thy like;
The yellow hordes are panting at our gates.
Arouse, young patriot, go forth and strike!
Awake, and cast they reeking 'fag' away!
Arise, and take the white man's burden up!'
'I'll lay you ten to one, in 'quids,'' he'll say:
'Wot's won the Cup?'
Behold, the High Priest of the people's creed!
Proclaim his genius! The bays! The bays!
Come, crown the Sporting Editor - indeed,
He is familiar with bays - with grays.
'Ten lengths from home!' How exquisite! How chaste!
''Gray Lad' outstripped 'The Witch'!' What style! What grace!
Come, beauty, twine a laurel wreath. Nay, haste!
He calls the race!

Future Glory
Through God’s Glory we shall shine, up in the Heavens for all of time.
Saved by Christ’s matchless Love, to shine forever in Heaven above.
Though the wicked don’t understand, we give Glory to the Son of Man.
Although He lives, He died for us, bringing Glory to our frames of dust.
Some wake to everlasting contempt; refusing the Son, God had sent.
While all men who believe in Christ, will rise above to Everlasting Life.
Although by men He was despised, Christ will capture all men’s eyes.
When in His Glory, God will come, through the Glory of Christ His Son.
When He returns to earth we’ll see, Christ in all His Glory and Majesty.
We shall shine in the Glory of, the One who died, to show God’s Love.
Men, who lead men to righteousness, will by God be eternally blessed.
For they will be purified and refined, to shine as the stars for all of time.
The Lord is watching from His Throne, noting the lives of His very own.
In His presence was written a scroll, what He remembers of every soul.
Noting men whose hearts implored, His mercy as they sought The Lord.
For in their heart was a reverent fear, knowing judgment was soon near.
They feared God honoring His Name, living above reproach and shame.
Knowing this, God said ‘they are mine”, to be His treasure for all of time.
God will distinguish the wicked from, the righteous belonging to His Son.
To shine like the Heavens forevermore, with God’s Son, Christ our Lord.
Just Your Average Genius
Please,
There is no need
To massage my feet.
Because you believe,
I am among the 'elite'
I'm not one to flaunt my brilliance.
Or seek to shine,
Brighter than stars.
Or glow in darkness...
To prove that candlelight,
Is a lame flame in my sight!
I am just your average genius.
That's all!
Nothing special to attract awe.
Or expect anyone to carry smelling salts,
To regain consciousness in my presence.
That's not me!
Just a simple kneeling,
And the kissing of my ring is sufficient.
'But Your Highness...
I thought you said,
You wanted to arrive incognito? '
Am I wearing the blue royal robe.
Adorned with jewels and ermine?
Am I?
Answer me!
'No Your Majesty.
No, you are not! '
That's why I decided to dress in rags.
And be done with all of the formalities.
But the kneeling and the kissing of the ring,
Gives me goosebumps.
THAT I am not about to give up!

One Step At a Time
Challenged.
To face my own insecurities.
And see them for what they are.
Challenged I am with brutal honesty.
With the intent to pick them apart.
I am ready to breathe freely.
Challenged...
Yes!
But today I am not defensive.
Or offended by the time I have taken,
To get to this point in my life.
With habits I will address next.
But for now...
I am satisfied,
To be able to take one step at a time.
This life is mine.
And I am finally fine with it!

Psalm 62
v.5-12
L. M.
No trust in the creatures; or, Faith in Divine grace and power.
My spirit looks to God alone;
My rock and refuge is his throne;
In all my fears, in all my straits,
My soul on his salvation waits.
Trust him, ye saints, in all your ways,
Pour out your hearts before his face:
When helpers fail, and foes invade,
God is our all-sufficient aid.
False are the men of high degree,
The baser sort are vanity;
Laid in the balance, both appear
Light as a puff of empty air.
Make not increasing gold your trust,
Nor set your hearts on glitt'ring dust
Why will you grasp the fleeting smoke,
And not believe what God has spoke?
Once has his awful voice declared,
Once and again my ears have heard,
"All power is his eternal due;
He must be feared and trusted too."
For sovereign power reigns not alone,
Grace is a partner of the throne:
Thy grace and justice, mighty Lord,
Shall well divide our last reward.

He Comes Knowing
He comes knowing he is challenged.
He has live his entire life...
Challenged.
Disciplined and observant.
Do you think he is oblivious to the obvious?
And living in a preferred time zone.
Comforted by hidden insecurities...
And deluded by the absence of practiced truths?
He comes knowing he is challenged.
He has live his entire life...
Challenged.
Disciplined and observant.
Do you believe,
One who has been made to feel an 'outsider'...
Does not perceive,
Who receives him as he is!
Amongst those who are quick...
To ridicule him with their negative judgements.
He comes knowing he is challenged.
He has live his entire life...
Challenged.
Disciplined and observant.
And...
He is guided by the 'Divine'!
In time,
You will discover that.
He comes knowing he is challenged.
And knowing he does...
What will and must take place,
To clean up disgraceful traces left,
By those who have lived their entire lives unchallenged...
Thoughtless.
And,
Born to feed their greed!
Prepare...
For the 'We Can and 'We Will'
Winds of change to blow,
Dramatically across the land!
And free of addicting pollutants.

The Nuns And The Lilies
The lilies in the garden walk
Are out today.
The nuns all came to look at them,
To look and say
They wouldn't last to deck the crib
On Christmas day.
They had outstripped the Holy Child.
And yet at least
They should have been for Ursula,
Lucy, Joan, Perpetua,
Have glittered on the altar through some virgin feast.
The lilies in the convent walk
Are fair to see.
They have forgotten baby Christs,
It seems to me.
They laugh and toss their royal heads
In ecstasy.
And still they say I must believe
Like princely churls
For all your lovely purity,
Catherine, Mary, Dorothy,
We will not die as altar flowers for dreaming girls.

Reality Ring
'With this ring
I do thee wed'
the preacher said;
and all I could think of
was how beautiful
the pictures would be
and the stories I would have
for my guy friends.
and those
future memories;
and did not hear
clearly
the call for the ring,
I was not present
in that moment
to feel.
So it was with me and
many of us
being anywhere
but where we are;
any time but present time
any place
but this space.
Always outside our time;
and what is real is only
what can be purchased
bought
or experienced
in the future
or the past.
So I am still guessing
what is real?
