The Coquette
Alone she sat with her accusing heart,
That, like a restless comrade frightened sleep,
And every thought that found her, left a dart
That hurt her so, she could not even weep.
Her heart that once had been a cup well filled
With love's red wine, save for some drops of gall
She knew was empty; though it had not spilled
Its sweets for one, but wasted them on all.
She stood upon the grave of her dead truth,
And saw her soul's bright armor red with rust,
And knew that all the riches of her youth
Were Dead Sea apples, crumbling into dust.
Love that had turned to bitter, biting scorn,
Hearthstones despoiled, and homes made desolate,
Made her cry out that she was ever born,
To loathe her beauty and to curse her fate

Excerpt From Lamplight Symphony
On a winter's night, stars are cold and bright in the sky,
The slumber of the earth is pure and deep
From a distant wood, drifts the echo of a beast
The old man stirs and wakens in the night
He stands before his window gazing at the grave
Forgotten dreams are flashing through his weary mind
And though his life is empty, he pretends that she's still there
With hunger in his soul, he yearns for life and love gone by,
With memories his one and only joy
All he has to give, he would give to bring back the life,
And raise the one who lies beneath the snow
He lights a lamp and looks at pictures of the past
The faces of their youth still glow with new-found love,
But the picture's faded, and time has stolen youth away
With a spoken word that he thought he heard from her lips,
He felt another presence in the room,
He was filled with fear but filled with joy he arose
And turned to face the image that he knew
She stood before him and her hand reached out for his
A peaceful light shone in her eyes
She said she'd come to soothe him, and someday they'd be as one
She began to fade and her image disappeared,
So he was left alone to face the night,
Never in his life, had he been so held in awe,
As he faced the apparition of his wife
He stood before the window gazing at the grave,
And with a lightened heart he saw the first of dawn,
He knew that she was waiting, that someday they'd be as one

Lonesome Tonight
I walk along the street
I look into your eyes
Im pleasant when we meet
Im there when you go home
How many times before
Could you tell I didnt care?
When you turned your back on me
I knew wed get nowhere
Do you believe in youth
The history of all truth
A heart thats left at home
Becomes a heart of stone
Do you believe in truth?
The lies we told of youth
A cause we call our own
Beside an empty throne
How many times before
Could you tell I didnt care?
When you reached out in your sleep
And you knew I wasnt there
My eyes are made of stone
Just like your sordid home
How many times before
Did you leave my soul alone?

John & Elvis Are Dead
Close friend of mine as a child fell into a slumber
No sign of life since '75
Then one day he just, what do you know
I guess God just called his number
He called me up he called me up and said
I've been awake about a week
I'm thinking about asking the doctor
If he could put me back to sleep
Then he laughed and said
Hey all the girls they look the same
Don't they know just what their mothers
Paid in blood, and tears to change
But the words that made me cry
The thing he softly said
It stayed with me, it keeps messing with my head
He said, If Jesus Christ is alive and well
Then how come John & Elvis are dead?
Youth, beautiful youth
We walked through the walls until we found the truth
And said Change it, it's ugly just change it
Everyone we used to know
Must have given up, so long ago
You can see it, it's written on their faces
And the inside of their clothes
But the words that made me cry
'Cos I knew just what they meant
He turned to me and said
Hey boy, if Jesus Christ is alive and well
Then how come John & Elvis are dead?
Tell me if Jesus Christ is alive and well
Then how come Marvin & Elvis are dead?
I said If Jesus Christ is going to save us from ourselves
How come peace, love and Elvis are dead?

The Woman and the Wife
I--THE EXPLANATION
"You thought we knew," she said, "but we were wrong.
This we can say, the rest we do not say;
Nor do I let you throw yourself away
Because you love me. Let us both be strong,
And we shall find in sorrow, before long,
Only the price Love ruled that we should pay:
The dark is the end of every day,
And silence is the end of every song.
"You ask me for one more proof that I speak right,
But I can answer only what I know;
You look for just one lie to make black white,
But I can tell you only what is true--
God never made me for the wife of you.
This we can say,--believe me! . . . Tell me so!"
II--THE ANNIVERSARY
"Give me the truth, whatever it may be.
You thought we knew, but now tell me what you miss:
You are the one to tell me what it is--
You are a man, and you have married me.
What is it worth to-night that you can see
More marriage in the dream of one dead kiss
Than in a thousand years of life like this?
Passion has turned the lock. Pride keeps the key.
"Whatever I have said or left unsaid,
Whatever I have done or left undone,--
Tell me. Tell me the truth . . . Are you afraid?
Do you think that Love was ever fed with lies
But hunger lived thereafter in his eyes?
Do you ask me to take moonlight for the sun?"

And There Was You
No more than just a broken heart ago
I made a promise to myself I'd never
Trust someone again
Judging form my rough and rocky past
I wrote off love as just a game a fool will play and never win
And I felt certain I was right
'Til I turned a corner in the night
And there was you
Like an angel you just suddenly appeared
Sent to me With a love so true
That it could make up for the lies and wasted years
Now I see there were other loves I knew
And there was you
I've heard the words "I love You" said in vain so many times
I quit believing that someone could really care
And after one too many dead end roads
I found myself stumbling through the dark down to my last prayer
I didn't know what else to try
'Til I raised my head and opened my eyes
And there was you
Like an angel you just suddenly appeared
Sent to me With a love so true
That it could make up for the lies and wasted years
Now I see there were other loves I knew
And there was you

The First Poem
The first poem I ever read
is the first words I ever said.
The words I love you
written by this beauty's tongue
turned a heart rosy red from a somber blue
and made me burn for my heart was wrung.
The first poem I ever read
is the first poem I ever said.
On her poetic lips love words refined
and shaped a sonnet on her flesh defined
On those lips I read a poet's song
And knew it was there my lips belonged.
The first poem I ever read
is the first words I ever said.
I love you, I love you
What does it mean?
These words said, to start anew
something pure and something serene.
The first words I ever read
is the first words I ever said.
Those first words she whispered into my ear
And in my heart, her poem stood near
Those are the most beautiful words one ever said
I love you, I love you, will live till its dead.
The first poem I ever read
is the first words I ever said.
I read her lips, I love you, I love you..
now to sleep I go in love's sweet bed.

Then And Now
THEN
He loved her, and through many years,
Had paid his fair devoted court,
Until she wearied, and with sneers
Turned all his ardent love to sport.
That night within his chamber lone,
He long sat writing by his bed
A note in which his heart made moan
For love; the morning found him dead.
NOW
Like him, a man of later day
Was jilted by the maid he sought,
And from her presence turned away,
Consumed by burning, bitter thought.
He sought his room to write--a curse
Like him before and die, I ween.
Ah no, he put his woes in verse,
And sold them to a magazine.

The Vain Spell
THE house sleeps dark and the moon wakes white,
The fields are alight with dew;
'Oh, will you not come to me, Love, to-night?
I have waited the whole night through,
For I knew,
O Heart of my heart, I knew by my heart,
That the night of all nights is this,
When elm shall crack and lead shall part,
When moulds shall sunder and shot bolts start
To let you through to my kiss.'
So spake she alone in the lonely house.
She had wrapped her round with the spell,
She called the call, she vowed the vow,
And the heart she had pledged knew well
That this was the night, the only night,
When the moulds might be wrenched apart,
When the living and dead, in the dead of the night,
Might clasp once more, in the grave's despite,
For the price of a living heart.
But out in the grave the corpse lay white
And the grave clothes were wet with dew;
'Oh, will you not come to me, Love, to-night,
I have waited the whole night through,
For I knew
That I dared not leave my grave for an hour
Since the hour of all hours is near,
When you shall come to the hollow bower,
In a cast of the wind, in a waft of the Power,
To the heart that to-night beats here!'
The moon grows pale and the house sleeps still
Ah, God! do the dead forget?
The grave is white and the bed is chill,
But a guest may be coming yet.
But the hour has come and the hour has gone
That never will come again;
Love's only chance is over and done,
And the quick and the dead are twain, not one,
And the price has been paid in vain.

The Times
The times are not degenerate. Man’s faith
Mounts higher than of old. No crumbling creed
Can take from the immortal soul the need
Of that supreme Creator, God. The wraith
Of dead beliefs we cherished in our youth
Fades but to let us welcome new-born Truth.
Man may not worship at the ancient shrine
Prone on his face, in self-accusing scorn.
That night is past. He hails a fairer morn,
And knows himself a something all divine;
No humble worm whose heritage is sin,
But, born of God, he feels the Christ within.
Not loud his prayers, as in the olden time,
But deep his reverence for that mighty force,
That occult working of the great all Source,
Which makes the present era so sublime.
Religion now means something high and broad,
And man stood never half so near to God.

Sweeter words,
Sweeter words,
Sweeter words that are deeper in my hurt,
I can believe,
I still believe that it was started,
Whilst the world saw it and believed,
Sweeter words that I made Him my selection,
I knew that love was like this,
Sweeter taste from the Wine's and Spirit's,
The drinking of wine was the Master Plan,
To tell us and ignore,
This is how the story start's,
That the man was wilding that I be His son,
Sweeter words that I found no Inspiration from Him,
It became more of an Inspiration,
That the story goes with bitter,
The story goes with sweeter words,
I never knew that they would be crying for a remedy,
To take my love from you,
It was believable,
This is the lie of my Sacifice to follow Truth,
I hope that you heard,
The Burdens are all ending,
Coming back that I see a change in the world,
In Reality it never changed.

OTHER WORLD...by Talile Ali
TIMINGS EVERYTHING
WHAT A MESS
I DON'T THINK
YOU KNOW I GUESS
WERE YOU TOO DRUNK
WERE YOU AWARE
OR JUST SO WELL LUBED
YOU DIDN'T CARE
WORDS WERE SPOKEN
TRUTHS WERE SHARED
SEEMED IF EVERYTHING
END UP SQUARED
ABOUT HOW YOU'VE ALWAYS KNEW YOU LOVED ME
AND HOW YOU THOUGHT WE COULD NEVER BE
SO YOU SETTLED FOR WHAT YOU THOUGHT COULD BE
A LIFE OF ABUSE AND NOT HAVING ME
BUT THE NEXT DAY
IT WAS A BLUR
YOU EVEN ASKED ME
WAS I THERE FOR SURE?
THAT'S WHEN I KNEW
BLACK OUTS WERE YOUR CURE
YOU'VE BEEN THRU A LOT
OF HELLISH EVENTS
I WISH I WAS THERE
TO MAYBE PREVENT
SEVERAL OF THOSE OCCASSION
I KNOW I'D BE DEAD
BUT THERE'D BE SOME DEAD BODIES
WITH MANY CRUSHED HEADS
FOR WHAT THEY DID TO YOU
OH THEY'D WISH THEY WERE DEAD
MY HEART IS ALL HURT
AND SO IS MY HEAD
WITH WHATS JUST OCCURRED
MY INNOCENTS DEAD
SO OTHER WORLD IS
THIS GAME THAT YOU'RE IN
WE'RE IN IT TOGETHER
THIS LOVE THAT'S YOUR SIN
AND LYING TO ME
THAT'S NOT EVEN WHERE WE BEGIN

Ive Still Got The Love We Made
(michael garvin, chris waters, tom shapiro)
You know I cant find the letters you wrote to me in school.
And that shoebox full of photographs got lost in my last move.
I gave away that old twin bed where you and I first laid.
But after all this time, Ive still got the love we made.
And that old beat up car we dated in, finally turned
To rust. and the first rose that you gave me, oh it finally turned to
Dust. but all those tender nights we shared are never gonna fade.
Cause after all this time Ive still got the love we made.
Ive got every feeling we felt when touched.
Cause even though fell apart I kept a part of us. Ive held
On to everytime we held each other tight, and promised that no matter
What wed never say goodbye. I dont have one souvenier
Of us Id meant to save, but right here in my heart
Ive still got the love we made.
Ooh right here in my heart
Ive still got the love we made.

Her Blessings At Death (story)
(STORY) (5/22/12)
She was laying in her hospice bed
She knew in a short time she would be dead
She had no fear of death you see
She waited for it patiently.
She knew she lived a good long life
She was a daughter, a sister, a mother, a wife.
Regrets- she knew she had none
GOD had blessed her with a wonderful son
A faith so strong in GOD above
And she showered family and friends with tenderness and love.
She was loved by everyone around
In her spirit and heart true love they found.
The most gentlest person you'd ever want to meet
Knowing her was such a treat.
When she went for her physical that year
The doctors found what they feared
A cancer cell growing so rapidly
It was something they did not foresee.
She showed no signs as many do
But they knew her life was through.
Her family was with her 24/7
They knew soon she'd be in heaven.
The hospital corridors were filled with people
And bells were ringing from all the steeples.
She was not a woman of fortune and fame
And of nothing in her life did she feel ashamed.
Just a loving heart so pure and true
That she shared it with everyone she knew.
They say she died in her sleep, as everyone began to weep.
But before she died - she had told her son
"tell the world- LOVES JUST BEGUN'.

Rings Of Gold
Gene thomas
I remember when you said
With this ring I thee wed
Now youve gone betrayed my trust
Rings of gold have turned to rust
Tears cant wash away the sin
Love thats dead cant live again
Knowing theres no hope for us
Turns those rings of gold to rust
Plans we made just yesterday
Sands of time have chipped away
Now theyve crumbled into dust
Love before was clean and pure
Never more can I be sure
You will not betray my trust
Rings of gold have turned to rust
Rings of gold have turned to rust

To Victor Daley
I thought that silence would be best,
But I a call have heard,
And, Victor, after all the rest,
I well might say a word:
The day and work is nearly done,
And ours the victory,
And we are resting, one by one,
In graveyards by the sea.
But then you talked of other nights,
When, gay from dusk to dawn,
You wasted hours with other lights
That went where you have gone.
You spoke not of the fair and “fast”,
But of the pure and true—
“Sweet ugly women of the past”
Who stood so well by you.
You made a jest on that last night,
I met it with a laugh:
You wondered which of us should write
The other’s epitaph.
We filled the glasses to the brim—
“The land’s own wine” you know—
And solemnly we drank to him
Who should be first to go.
No ribald jest; we were but two—
The royst’ring days were past—
And in our heart of hearts we knew,
That one was going fast.
We both knew who should win the race—
Were rest or fame the prize—
As with a quaint smile on your face
You looked into my eyes.
You talked about old struggles brave,
But in a saddened tone—
The swindles editors forgave
For laughter’s sake alone.
You talked of humorous distress,
And bailiffs that you knew,
But with a touch of bitterness
I’d never seen in you.
No need for tears or quick-caught breath—
You sleep not in the sand—
No need for ranting song of death,
With the death drink in our hand.
No need for vain invective hurled
At “cruel destiny”,
Though you seem dead to all the world
You are not dead to me.
I see you walk into the room—
We aye remember how—
And, looking back into the gloom,
You’ll smile about it now.
’Twas Victor’s entry, solemn style—
With verse or paragraph:
Though we so often saw your smile
How many heard you laugh?
They dare to write about the man
That they have never seen:
The blustering false Bohemian
That you have never been;
Some with the false note in their voice,
And with the false tear shed,
Who in their secret heart rejoice
For one more rival—dead.
They miss the poems, real and true,
Where your heart’s blood was shed.
And rave of reckless things that you
Threw out for bitter bread.
They “weep” and “worship” while you “rest”,
They drivel and they dote—
But, Victor, we remember best
The things we never wrote.
The things that lie between us two,
The things I’ll never tell.
A fool, I stripped my soul, but you—
You wore your mask too well
(How strangely human all men be,
Though each one plays a part).
You only dropped it once for me,
But then I saw your heart.
A souls’-match, such as one might strike
With or without intent
(How strangely all men are alike—
With masks so different).
No need to drop the mask again,
On that last night, I know—
It chanced when we were sober men,
Some seven years ago.
They slander you, fresh in the sand,
They slander me alive;
But, when their foul souls flee the land,
Our spirits shall arrive.
In slime and envy let them rave,
And let the worst be said:
“A drunkard at a drunkard’s grave,”
“A brilliant drunkard dead.”
Because we would not crawl to them,
Their hands we would not shake,
Because their greed we would condemn,
Their bribes we would not take:
Because unto the fair and true
Our hearts and songs we gave—
But I forgot them when I threw
My white flower on your grave.
So let us turn, and with a smile
Let those poor creatures pass
While we, the few who wait awhile,
Drink to an empty glass.
We’ll live as in the days gone by,
To no god shall we bow—
Though, Victor, there are times when I
Feel jealous of you now.
But I’ll have done with solemn songs,
Save for my country’s sake;
It is not meet, for all the wrongs,
That any heart should break.
So many need to weep and smile,
Though all the rest should frown,
That I’d take your burden up awhile
Where you have laid it down.

Through The Barricades
Mother doesnt know where love has gone
She says it must be youth
That keeps us feeeling strong
See it in her face, thats turned to ice
And when she smiles she shows
The lines of sacrifice
And now I know what theyre saying
When the sun begins to fade
And we made our love on wasteland
And through the barricades
Father made my history
He fought for what he thought
Would set us somehow free
He tought me what to say in school
I learned off by heart
But now thats torn in two
And now I know what theyre saying
In the music of the parade
We made our love on wasteland
And through the barricades
Born on different sides of life
We feel the same
And feel all of this strife
So come to me when Im asleep
Well cross the line
And dance upon the street
And now I know what theyre saying
When the drums begin to fade
We made our love on wasteland
And through the barricades
Oh, turn around and Ill be there
Theres a scar through my heart
But Ill bare it again
I thought? we were the human race
But we were just another border-line-case
And the stars reach down and tell us
That theres always one escape
I dont know where love has gone
And in this trouble land
Desperation keep us strong
Fridays child is full of soul
With nothing left to lose
Theres everything to go
And now I know what theyre are saying
Its a terrible beauty weve made
So we make our love on? wasteland
And through the barricades
Now I know what theyre are saying
As hearts go to their graves
We made our love on? wasteland
And through the barricades.

Living Without Your Love
(michael bolton/doug james)
Looks like you win
Its just like you called it from the start
I let you in
Now I cant get you out of my heart
Here I am
Im dreamin about you night and day
Wanting you
Needing you
Hopin you stay
All of my life
I thought I knew the taste of sweet
In my eye
My life was so complete
There you were
That same smile you wear tonight
Suddenly
This heart and me
Cant understand how
Ive been living without your love
Never know how I did it so long
Living without your love
All I know is I just cant go on
Living without your love
Darlin Ive had more than enough
Living without your love
Till I found you
I never knew love could feel like this
Now that I do
I wanna make up for what I missed
Here we are
What I thought was just a dream
Its comin true
Because of you
I know what love means
And Ive been living without your love
Never know how I made it so long
Living without your love
All I know is I just cant go on
Living without your love
Darlin Ive had more than enough
Of living without your love
All the world couldnt see
But somehow you knew
Everything I ever needed
Id find it with you
(Ive been) Ive been living without your love
Never know how I made it so long
Living without your love
All I know is I just cant go on
Living without your love
Darlin Ive had more than enough
Of living without your love
