Now I lay Me
When I pass from earth away,
Palsied though I be and gray,
May my spirit keep so young
That my failing, faltering tongue
Frames that prayer so dear to me
Taught me at my mother's knee:
'Now I lay me down to sleep,'
(Passing to Eternal rest
On the loving parent breast)
'I pray the Lord my soul to keep;'
(From all danger safe and calm
In the hollow of His palm
'If I should die before I wake,'
(Drifting with a bated breath
Out of slumber into death,)
'I pray the Lord my soul to take.'
(From the body's claim set free
Sheltered in the Great to be.)
Simple prayer of trust and truth
Taught me in my early youth-
Let my soul its beauty keep
When I lay me down to sleep.

Come on baby no more cry
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
My soul unworthy take my heart
That while I sleep my life depart
Now I lay me in my bed
A loaded gun against my head
My soul is barren wasted done
I lay me down a loaded gun
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
That should you die before you wake
It is your soul the lord did take
hush-a-bye, hush-a-bye
I'll sing to you a lullaby
And then we'll both lay down to die
Come on baby no more cry
Mama's got a big surprise
She put it right between your eyes
And no more no more baby cries
Ssshhh now baby go to sleep
I pray the lord your soul to keep
I will not weep, I will not weep
That should you die, Before I wake
I pray the lord my soul to take
Now I lay me down with you
The Lord can have my own soul too
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
My soul unworthy take my heart
That while I sleep my life depart

Prayer Is the Soul's Sincere Desire
Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire,
Unuttered or expressed;
The motion of a hidden fire
That trembles in the breast.
Prayer is the burden of a sigh,
The falling of a tear
The upward glancing of an eye,
When none but God is near.
Prayer is the simplest form of speech
That infant lips can try;
The upward glancing of an eye,
When none but God is near.
Prayer is the Christian’s vital breath,
The Christian’s native air,
His watchword at the gates of death;
He enters heaven with prayer.
O Thou, by Whom we come to God,
The Life, the Truth, the Way;
The path of prayer Thyself hast trod:
Lord, teach us how to pray!
Prayer is the contrite sinner’s voice,
Returning from his ways,
While angels in their songs rejoice
And cry, “Behold, he prays!”
The saints in prayer appear as one
In word, in deed, and mind,
While with the Father and the Son
Sweet fellowship they find.
No prayer is made by man alone
The Holy Spirit pleads,
And Jesus, on th’eternal throne,
For sinners intercedes.
O Thou by Whom we come to God,
The Life, the Truth, the Way,
The path of prayer Thyself hast trod:
Lord, teach us how to pray.

Sometimes I Pray
Sometimes I pray before I sleep;
Sometimes I pray, the lord; my soul to keep,
Sometimes I pray.....
Sometimes I pray in the morning;
Sometimes I pray for those in mourning,
Sometimes I pray.....
Sometimes I pray for rain;
Sometimes I pray for nomore pain,
Sometimes I pray.....
Sometimes I pray before i eat;
Sometimes I pray for good bread and meat,
Sometimes I pray.....
Sometimes I pray, my baby; that you'll stay;
But only sometimes for these things do I pray,
For I talk to my Lord everyday...

Why Art Thou Thus Cast Down, My Heart?
Why art thou thus cast down, my heart?
Why troubled, why dost mourn apart,
O'er nought but earthly wealth?
Trust in thy God, be not afraid,
He is thy Friend who all things made.
Dost think thy prayers He doth not heed?
He knows full well what thou dost need,
And heaven and earth are His;
My Father and my God, who still
Is with my soul in every ill.
Since Thou my God and Father art,
I know Thy faithful loving heart
Will ne'er forget Thy child;
See I am poor, I am but dust,
On earth is none whom I can trust.
The rich man in his wealth confides,
But in my God my trust abides;
Then laugh ye as ye will,
I hold this fast that He hath taught,--
Who trusts in God shall want for nought.
Yes, Lord, Thou art as rich to-day
As Thou hast been and shalt be aye,
I rest on Thee alone;
Thy riches to my soul be given,
And 't is enough for earth and heaven.
What here may shine I all resign,
If the eternal crown be mine,
That through Thy bitter death
Thou gainedst, O Lord Christ, for me--
For this, for this, I cry to Thee!
All wealth, all glories, here below,
The best that this world can bestow,
Silver or gold or lands,
But for a little time is given,
And helps us not to enter heaven.
I thank Thee, Christ, Eternal Lord,
That Thou hast taught me by Thy word
To know this truth and Thee;
O grant me also steadfastness
Thy heavenly kingdom not to miss.
Praise, honour, thanks, to Thee be brought,
For all things in and for me wrought
By Thy great mercy, Christ.
This one thing only still I pray,
Oh cast me ne'er from Thee away

When I Pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
Im praying lord my soul to keep
If I die before I wake
Somebody make a big mistake
Im only just one little man
Just usin up the air
Still Im askin anyway
Lord when I pray, please be there
Lord when I pray, please be there
Singin om om my god, please be there
You know Im just like all my kind
I got a weak and confused mind
When I feel a little pain
You know how I love to complain
But I try to be strong
I try hard to lift my share
I dont expect for nothing
But lord when I pray, please be there
Now I sing for you

As fail the waters from the deep,
As summer brooks run dry,
Man lieth down in dreamless sleep,
His life is vanity.
Man lieth down, no more to wake,
Till yonder arching sphere
Shall with a roll of thunder break,
And nature disappear.
Oh! hide me till Thy wrath be past,
Thou, who canst slay or save!
Hide me where hope may anchor fast,
In my Redeemer's grave!

Olney Hymn 22: Prayer For A Blessing In The Young
Bestow, dear Lord, upon our youth
The gift of saving grace;
And let the seed of sacred truth
Fall in a fruitful place.
Grace is a plant, where'er it grows,
Of pure and heav'nly root;
But fairest in the youngest shows,
And yields the sweetest fruit;
Ye careless ones, O hear betimes
The voice of sovereign love!
Your youth is stained with many crimes,
But mercy reigns above.
True, you are young, but there's a stone
Within the youngest breast;
Or half the crimes which you have done.
Would rob you of your rest.
For you the public prayer is made,
O! join the public prayer!
For you the secret tear is shed,
O shed yourselves a tear.
We pray that you may early prove
The Spirit's power to teach;
You cannot be too young to love
That Jesus whom we preach.

My ardent prayer of the night.....
oh! journey of the night come and whisper my
dream that a prayer of mine be the vessel of hope
when the stream of death comes in my soul for
an immortal rest
let be the sole timeless sleep, i adore knock at my
peeping door, wish me the way to the shoulder of
the mother womb i stay
may the riding wind paddle my way to the kingdom,
where once, i knew that long before i come i was a
citizen that lures and passes in thy Eden haven's nest
be the guiding star that the angels may hear the silent
of my heart; a prayer that ask and be blessed for thy
voiceless whisper be the last day of my life
as i am gone, weight my command and judge
my entity the resurrected soul of mine be in your side,
for even at the last moment i take my breath, i call your
name
nestle my heart and settle my soul my dear Lord.......

The City Of Damn-His Soul
He was nursed and cursed : he lied and died,
In the City of Damn-His-Soul ;
He was mothered and smothered in the slimy tide
Of the City of Damn-His-Soul,
And, strange to say, there were preachers there,
And temples, many and broad ;
But he never had taught him the simplest prayer,
Or had heard of the word of God !
For nobody cared for the poor galoot,
And fewer had cared for his soul
For they said that Hell had a new recruit
From the City of Damn-His-Soul.
But the angels they waited, outside the gate
Of the City of Damn His Soul ;
And they bore him away, with step elate,
To the City of Save-His-Soul ;
And the angels they put him to school How odd !
And they taught him the A B C
Of the Love, and the Wisdom, and Truth of God.
On the winterless side of the sea
He played and was taught, with the angels for chums,
Where the rivers of Paradise roll :
Ah, me, what a change from the bums and the slums
Of the City of Damn-His-Soul !
He has learned a trade in that wonderful place
In the City of Save-His-Soul ;
All traces of sin have been wiped from his face
In the college of Save-His-Soul ;
They Ve taught him to work : they Ve taught him to
pray:
They 've taught him to read and write ;
He works in the gardens of God, by day,
And learns new lessons by night.
The poor lone youth, who had carried the hod
For the devil's designs below,
Is a power and a prince in the realms of God
And I 'm glad that these things are so.

In The Solitude Of Prayer
In the solitude of prayer
deep
Lost in moments in between weep
and sleep
In the solitude of prayer
Lonliness finds a rest
Survived another test
Brings out our best
In the solitude of prayer
With nobody there
Except those far away
Reminded of their distant care
In the solitude of prayer
You pray for their smile
For their personal trial
Silently, all the while
In the solitude of prayer
Dreams seem more near
More hope than fear
Thoughts of those past those dear
In the solitude of prayer
Pray for their souls kind
Whose memory is still in your mind
And in your heart
In the solitude of prayer
Pray for your dear friends
Whose heart's you defend
As your own heart they mend
In the solitude of prayer
As for God's wisdom
And his love
As all love comes from above
In the solitude of prayer
Find grace to forgive
And to truely give
And to live
In the solitude of prayer
Recall how to dream
Of warm embraces of affection
And of love returned in your direction
In the solitude of prayer
Pray with conviction
Pray for the impossible
Without fear or restriction

Dear And Sweet
Dear sweet and loving wife
You give me love and also life
You give me happiness and never strife
Without you my love how could I survive.
You have turned our house into a home
The love we have it is always shown
Together forever in life we’ve been sewn
Never will we ever be sad or alone.
When I am off to work I think about you
As I know there will always be us two
To live without your love I have not a clue
When we sleep at night my soul you soothe.
Dear sweet and loving mother
As I know like you there is no other
You keep me warmth you are my cover
You gave me life and also life to discover.
You kiss me goodnight when I go to sleep
When I am sad you help me not to weep
No steps you said for me are ever to steep
You taught me truth and not deceit.
You taught me honesty and never to lie
Honor and pride you said will be at my side
Because of you I wear a smile at night
As you gave me love and you gave me might.
Dear sweet and loving mistress
Does your husband know you are my misses
For myself you will cheat as you undress
Your children do not know that you never confess.
You come visit me when your family is asleep
You sneak out your house so not to make a peep
As my life and myself is all that you seek
I wonder does anyone know the secrets we do keep.
When your husband is at work you are thinking about me
When your children are at school you are free
Whatever I say or do you will always believe
Hopefully the truth you will never find or see.
Dear mean and hateful woman
You have done again things that you shouldn’t
Though we are all weak and only human
You have done things that any other couldn’t.
You suppose to give your family your very best
So your soul and life would of been blessed
But then you gave your feelings to all the rest
In love and life you should never start another quest.
But in the end of course you will be caught
You lied to everyone and against what you taught
Righteousness and love and truth you never sought
Your body has been sold and your soul has been bought.

All Day Long Doses
Pray!
Pray to pray for prayer.
Pray to stay there in prayer.
There is no time to find prayer.
You must pray to make prayer,
The only time you have.
The only key you need...
To unlock all that keeps you fed,
And nourished!
Pray to pray for prayer.
When you're there,
Stay!
Like every wish you keep that comes.
Prayer should be the only thing decided,
That's done every moment you breathe a breath
Of life.
Pray!
Pray to pray for prayer.
Stay there in it!
Take it with you
Like you take and do your faith...
In all day long doses!
Without fear you have taken too long of a break!

Pray
Dear lord you know that I don’t often pray
But I have so much to say.
I thank you for all that you have done for me
That you have set my heart free.
You give me a purpose in this life
And a desire to help others
Friends, family, sister, and brothers.
So continue to stand by me
And let the words run free.
For when I pray to god up above
He will shower me with all his love.
He will relieve my aches and pains
And my soul will never be the same.
Because of prayer I have achieved my goal
I can touch other souls
I can write what they see and feel
And their thoughts I do steal.
This is what happens when I pray
And I thank god every day.

0369 Prayer. To Mike, who asked.
Simplest prayer, soonest answered,
so it’s said; so let us be as little children
(themselves an answered prayer..?)
and ask the simplest questions -
how? whom to? for what? and will we get
what we are asking for? promise?
suppose He or She or It thinks, (if They think anyway..)
that’s it’s a silly thing to ask for,
or just a bit too ‘me’ and greedy,
will they say no? will they let us know
somehow, that’s it’s no?
or will our justice be
to get what we think we want
until the day we wish we hadn’t asked for it?
or is it like the tale of the three wishes,
everything turned to gold – including us! …
another wish, please cancel; then
the last and sensible small wish, which may even
include the welfare of all others too?
Some say the commonest of prayers
amounts to, please God, let two and two
please equal five…that prayers may only ask
what may be within the domain of the law
of our Creation; some even say that, given this,
we’ll always get what we wish for – eventually;
but that by some mighty, unalterable law,
as with the fairies gathered around
Sleeping Beauty’s cradle, as the Fates,
along with what we asked for, comes
a something else for which we didn’t ask…
others say that there’s no difference
between the meaning of a prayer, and praise;
that in our praise, our prayer is surely shaped
and those who do not think to praise
may never know, to whom to pray,
or ever truly know, for what…
and others of a theologic mind
pray to be taught, for what to pray…
or instead of prayer, to learn to willingly accept
all that befalls them, as the gift of all
that they might pray for, for their good of soul…
*
all this is for considering; but I suggest
that in the depths of grief, or heights of joy, we know
the place where prayer may arise:
so deep within ourselves, that it’s beyond
the asking or the answering; a place so deep
that there, our soul rests in peace,
all questions meet all answers,
and all desires are satisfied;
there is no loss,
and nothing lacks;
we are – ourselves; ourself; at peace;
and for that, we may surely pray.

Pray For Them
Pray for them, in this storm that's so wide,
Hurricane sandy, With a huge incoming tide;
For those in Washington, New York and elsewhere,
This is our humble caring pleading prayer.
Pray for those who'll be without a home,
Also those old and young, who live on their own;
Be with those helping, the police, and emergency crew,
Provide the workers with every hammer nail and screw.
Pray for those who are injured, and the Doctors too,
For the nurses, and ambulance officers, coz care is what they do;
Pray for the animals and birds, they're suffering as well,
Help them find safety, To you in my prayer, their needs I tell.
Lord we pray for each church folk, across that land,
That. They wil be safe and praying, for Your Hand;
Only You Lord, know why this has come about,
So I know You'll answer, And knock the fierceness out.

Rose-Morals
I. -- Red.
Would that my songs might be
What roses make by day and night --
Distillments of my clod of misery
Into delight.
Soul, could'st thou bare thy breast
As yon red rose, and dare the day,
All clean, and large, and calm with velvet rest?
Say yea -- say yea!
Ah, dear my Rose, good-bye;
The wind is up; so; drift away.
That songs from me as leaves from thee may fly,
I strive, I pray.
II. -- White.
Soul, get thee to the heart
Of yonder tuberose: hide thee there --
There breathe the meditations of thine art
Suffused with prayer.
Of spirit grave yet light,
How fervent fragrances uprise
Pure-born from these most rich and yet most white
Virginities!
Mulched with unsavory death,
Grow, Soul! unto such white estate,
That virginal-prayerful art shall be thy breath,
Thy work, thy fate.

On The Lord's Prayer
I have taught your young lips the good words to say over,
Which form the petition we call the Lord's Prayer,
And now let me help my dear child to discover
The meaning of all the good words that are there.
'Our Father,'-the same appellation is given
To a parent on earth, and the Parent of all-
O gracious permission! the God that's in heaven
Allows his poor creatures him Father to call.
To 'hallow his name,' is to think with devotion
Of it, and with reverence mention the same;
Though you are so young, you should strive for some notion
Of the awe we should feel at the Holy One's name.
His 'will done on earth, as it is done in heaven,'
Is a wish and a hope we are suffered to breathe
That such grace and favour to us may be given,
Like good angels on high we may live here beneath.
'Our daily bread give us,' your young apprehension
May well understand is to pray for our food;
Although we ask bread, and no other thing mention,
God's bounty gives all things sufficient and good.
You pray that your 'trespasses may be forgiven,
As you forgive those that are done unto you.'
Before this you say to the God that's in heaven,
Consider the words which you speak. Are they true?
If any one has in the past time offended
Us angry creatures who soon take offence,
These words in the prayer are surely intended
To soften our minds, and expel wrath from thence.
We pray that 'temptations may never assail us,'
And 'deliverance beg from all evil' we find:
But we never can hope that our prayer will avail us,
If we strive not to banish ill thoughts from our mind.
'For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
For ever and ever:' these titles are meant
To express God's dominion and majesty o'er ye:
And 'Amen' to the sense of the whole gives assent.

(words & music: per gessle)
Published by hiphappy
Jefferson was always out of luck
I remember when we both grew up
Jefferson got hit by a westbound truck
I guess that didnt make him look like a million bucks
That night when sally really stole the show
And every boy was captured diggin for gold
Poor old jefferson was left in the snow
Im gonna pray for jefferson
Pray for jeffersons soul
Im gonna pray for jefferson
Pray for jeffersons soul
Jefferson is always on my mind
When him and me were runnin out of time
Jefferson was sure enough left be behind
The cops came in and took him by surprise
That night when sally really showed her game
The neighborhood would never be the same
Poor old jefferson got the blame
Ooooh
Im gonna pray for jefferson
Pray for jeffersons soul
Im gonna pray for jefferson
Pray for jeffersons soul
Im gonna pray for jefferson
Pray for jeffersons soul
Yeah
Im gonna pray for jefferson
Pray for jeffersons soul
I do believe he didnt do wrong
I say a prayer for someone I care for
I do believe he didnt do wrong
I say a prayer for someone I care for
That night where sally really gave it all
And made us small boys look quite tall
Poor old jefferson left the ball
Yeah
Im gonna pray for jefferson
Pray for jeffersons soul
Im gonna pray for jefferson
Pray for jeffersons soul
Im gonna pray for jefferson
Pray for jeffersons soul
Im gonna pray for jefferson
Pray for jeffersons soul

Dear Lord
Dear lord this is a prayer
Just let me know if youre really there
Dear lord come gain control
Oh lord come save my soul
Give me dignity restore my sanity
Oh lord come rescue me
Dear lord my vanity is killing me
Oh lord its killing me, its killing me
If you give your soul to heaven
And your soul begins to bleed
Remember all the sevens
Dont turn up when you need
If you do believe in glory
Then please believe a fact
Give your soul to heaven
You wont get it back
Im down deep and I need your help
Theres no one to turn to and I cant help myself
Dear lord hear this call
Oh lord save my fall
Im scared I doubt
Dear lord help me out
I despair my lord my prayer my lord
Care my lord
Dear lord take the time
I believe your story now you believe mine
Oh lord Im on my knees
Oh lord please please beware
My lord oh care my lord
Give me dignity
Restore my sanity
My vanity is killing me
If you give your soul to heaven
