Learning

I think I've learned too many things
and I kow it's not over 'til the fat lady sings.
But I think I hear her sound coming 'round.
And I don't like her approaching sound.
You know they say that ignorance is bliss
but learning truths I cannot resist.

Does that make me different?
Does that make me strange?
You bet it does but I can't exchange
all of these things that are living with me.
So just like the tides are a part of the sea
I move along and take it in stride.
It lives with me. It lives inside.

So I keep my mind open and learn more things
and maybe some day when the fat lady sings
I'll be ready for her song.

Make You Stay

I should have heard you talkin'
Now I'm a dead man walking
I should have paid more mind
To the little things, the little things
Why is love so complicated
Maybe that's the we made it
Just tell me you won't go
Say it isn't so
Like on the radio
And if I could I'd write that song for you
(Chorus)
If a song could make you cry
If a song could make you say goodbye
Could it change you mind
If a song could make you stay
It's a backward chain reaction
It's a lack of satisfaction
That makes our love breakdown
To the little things, the little things
Gone 180 degrees
Come back to me
Just tell me you won't go
Say it isn't so
Like on the radio
And if I could I'd write that song for you
(Repeat Chorus)
If a song could make you cry
If a song could make you say goodbye
Could it change you mind
If a song could make you stay
If a song could break you down
Then a song could turn our love around
Can you hear that sound
If a song can make you stay
If a song could make you cry
If a song could make you say goodbye
Could it change you mind
If a song could make you stay
If a song could break you down
Then a song could turn our love around
Can you hear that sound
If a song can make you stay

Sweet Music Man

I didn't listen, and I couldn't see,
And all I have left now,
Are words she gave to me
Sing me a song sweet music man,
'Cause I won't be there to hold your hand
Like I used to,
I'm through with you
You touched my soul with your beautiful song
You even had me singing along right with you
You said "I needed you"
But then you changed the words and that harmony
And you sang that song you'd written for me
To someone new
But nobody sings a love song quite like you do,
And nobody else can make me sing along,
And nobody else can make me feel
That things are right when they're wrong,
Nobody sings a love song quite like you.
Sing me a song sweet music man,
Your making a living doing one night stands
that do for you what you need them to
Your still a hell of a singer but a broken man
And you surround yourself with people who demand
So little of you
But nobody sings a love song quite like you do,
And nobody else can make me sing along,
And nobody else can make me feel,
That things are right when they're wrong
with a song,
Nobody sings a love song quite like you.
So sing me a song sad music man,
I believe in you

Lady Lynda

Lady lady lady lady
Wont you come here and lie lady lynda with me
We can lie in the green canyon meadows
And well hear the birds sing in the spring
Dont you know if you;ll stay lady lynda with me
We can talk about love everafter
When you lie lady lynda with me
Lynda, wont you say that we can be near
Cannot deny thereve been hard times
Darlin, evolution is drawing us near
Look in my eyes whoa
Lynda, wont you say that I am your man
Your lips are dry (? ) its all in his past
But darlin, evolution is drawing us near
Lie lady lie
Oooh lady wont you lie lady
Now wont you stay lady lynda with me

When you lie lady lynda with me
Ohh lady wont you lie lady
Wont you ooh lady wont you stay lady with me

Come along with me
Ohh lady wont you lie lady
Wont you lie with me

Sing the sound of love
Ohh lady wont you lie lady
Wont you lie with me
Darlin your love is like the coming spring
Wont you come along and sing a song
Sing the song my love

High Priest Of Rhythmic Noise

Its been a long time, baby
High priest of rhytmic noise
Living inside of me
I been goin round in ciricles
And Ive considered first degree
Just a singer in a mind choir
Lives on harmony
If the song dont change the choir wont sin
Wont sing the same song forever
Its such a pity
Whats a poor boy to do
Its such a pity
Whats a poor boy to do
You look strange, thats what I like
You look strange like me
Fit to be tied, a little bedtime story

Lady-oh

Words and music by neil diamond
Lady-oh, lady-oh, I walked the streets again last night.
I saw you in the city light like a vision, lady-oh.
Lady i, lady i, Ive been waitin around such a long long time
Believin I could make you mine, just wanting you lady-oh.
But here I am and there you are, much too far to even hear me.
Hurts a lot, you know it does, it hurts a lot.
Oh, lady-oh, am I gonna ever learn what I never learned before?
City lights, city lights burn so warm and they burn so bright,
But me, I walk the city night to forget you, lady-oh.
But here I am and there you are, much too far to even hear me.
Hurts a lot, you know it does, it hurts a lot.
Oh, lady-oh, am I gonna ever learn what I never learned before?

The Power Of Love

The whispers in the morning
Of lovers sleeping tight
Are rolling like thunder now
As I look in your eyes
I hold on to your body
And feel each move you make
Your voice is warm and tender
A love that I could not forsake

[first chorus]
'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

Lost is how I'm feeling lying in your arms
When the world outside's too
Much to take
That all ends when I'm with you

Even though there may be times
It seems I'm far away
Never wonder where I am
'Cause I am always by your side

'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

[second chorus]
We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
Of the power of love

The sound of your heart beating
Made it clear
Suddenly the feeling that I can't go on
Is light years away

'Cause I am your lady
And you are my man
Whenever you reach for me
I'll do all that I can

We're heading for something
Somewhere I've never been
Sometimes I am frightened
But I'm ready to learn
Of the power of love

If You Wouldn't Be My Lady

Take away the song a songbird sings
Take away the sound that laughter brings
Take the music from a melody
Never take your love away from me
You make me smile
You make darkness turn into warm sunshine
You give me love
The Lord above knows
I wouldn't know what to do if you wouldn't be my lady
I wouldn't know what to do if you weren't here today
I wouldn't know what to do if you wouldn't be my lady
I wouldn't know what to do if you weren't here to stay
Take away the gentle summer breeze
Take away the golden autumn leaves
I can live without blue skies above
But I could never live without your love
You give me life
You make bad times turn into the good times
You give me love
The Lord above knows
I wouldn't know what to do if you wouldn't be my lady
I wouldn't know what to do if you weren't here to stay
I wouldn't know what to do if you wouldn't be my lady
I wouldn't know what to do if you weren't here to stay

The Stature of Truth

Watch them closely.
Your greater life depends on this.
See their bodies, watch their faces,
listen to their sound, which is
now the sound that we all own.

Now see your self, seeing them;
watch your self, watching them;
listen to your self, listening
to yourself. This is the moment
grace graces us. Our grace.

This shelf-stacker with
a battered face; this
village lady with a homely build;
this child, who, simply, sings
as if that could not be more natural:
see them; watch them; listen to the sound.

See them in profile: nobility
now shapes their face;
this is what heroes are,
heroes who await our call.

They have surrendered to their self;
was it we who called them?
Are there times when truth itself
is impatient of release; cannot wait
for us to earn that?

Perhaps just a few bars, as the song
begins to take them over,
sings, them; perhaps the climax of the song,
when all we can do is wildly clap,
applaud ourselves for what they’ve told us
that we always knew: we too, heroes,
heroines, waiting for the call
to be ourselves:

for a few bars, their stature
is beyond measure; remind yourself,
you saw it, watched them, listened:
listened to the sound which says
this, my sound, is the sound
that can do anything. anything:
now I make the world anew.

For a few bars, they tell us
this, this is who we are,
every one of us; this is
what talent’s given for; this,
what we were made for;
this is how great we are.

This is the sound of truth
singing the truth of truth itself;
this is what grace can do.
This is who we are.

Lady Anne

I

Dear lady Anne
I had you once
and then had you lost
as if you were never meant to be
only mine.

II

Sweet lady Anne
how you could
make your lips glow
and bind your auburn hair
at times in a bow.

III

And, lady Anne
who else could make sparks jump
between the two of us
and knew me better
than I myself.

IV

When, lady Anne
your lips met mine
they were much sweeter than wine
and passion raged for much more
but life swept you away
sweet lady Anne.

V

Ay, lady Anne
how swift has life passed us bye
and years is spent
and time just went on its own way
and you were a fine wife
to someone else,

VI

but lady Anne
the things that lie between
the two of us
remains as long
as our lives last.

VII

Dear lady Anne
my heart still in a way
belongs to you
and at times I dream about
days long gone
and I wonder if you
remember me too?

Velvet

(paul waaktaar / lauren savoy)
Her skin is like velvet
Her face cut from stone
Her eyes when shes smiling
Will never reach home
But hear how she sings
Her touch would be tender
Her lips would be warm
But when were together
Im always alone
But hear how she sings
But hear how she sings
Hear how she sings
Her skin is like velvet
So I went to her home
Her place like a palace
With things you cant own
Her skin is like velvet
And hear how she sings
Hear how she sings...

The Voice that Sings

The voice that sings across the night
Of long forgotten days and things,
Is there an ear to hear aright
The voice that sings?

It is as when a curfew rings
Melodious in the dying light,
A sound that flies on pulsing wings.

And faded eyes that once were bright
Brim over, as to life it brings
The echo of a dead delight,
The voice that sings.

Song In The Wind

There's a wind in the air
Filled with song
A gentle voice
Low and long -
It sings life
And it sings time
It blows so easily through
Hearts and minds -
It's the word of wisdom
And the entirety of the ages
Embracing all being
From the audacious to the sages -
It sings out
Lifelong
Continuously calling
In a soulful song -
It's always there for everyone
Blowing free
Even unto our very last day
As it carries us, one by one, into eternity -
It is the Song in the wind
The Voice of the soul
It's the living sound
Every heart mysteriously, somehow does hear and know -

Cloud of Unknowing

How strange it is – and yet, why should it be? –
that all things seem to live most unaware
of that which gives them life itself to live;
so see the All as always everywhere?

yet from the jungle, or a city’s heart,
the sound of praise does not unceasing rise;
and we may tread a springtime’s flowered field
and hear no coloured choir of grateful cries..

why has our Lord Creator set it thus,
and hid His love from His created things?
What might He ask from us, in this great game,
that once again may hear the song He sings?

His are all powers; and yet, He chooses these
above so many other powers to wield:
that with one hand, His bounty He conceals;
yet with the other, all His All reveals…

Children, laughing, play at hide-and-seek;
act out the semblance of this mighty game
which some may never play; for some, life’s work;

what then, our part? To seek His playful aim?

To a Sleeping Child

Lips, lips, open!
Up comes a little bird that lives inside
Up comes a little bird, and peeps, and out he flies.

All the day he sits inside, and sometimes he sings,
Up he comes, and out he goes at night to spread his wings.

Little bird, little bird, whither will you go?
Round about the world, while nobody can know.

Little bird, little bird, whither do you flee?
Far away around the world, while nobody can see.

Little bird, little bird, how long will you roam?
All round the world and around again home;

Round the round world, and back through the air,
When the morning comes, the little bird is there.

Back comes the little bird and looks and in he flies,
Up wakes the little boy, and opens both his eyes.

Sleep, sleep, little boy, little bird’s away,
Little bird will come again, by the peep of day;

Sleep, little boy, the little bird must go
Round about the world, while nobody can know.
Sleep, sleep sound, little bird goes round,
Round and round he goes; sleep, sleep sound.

Deja Vu

I've been here before. I know I have
but I can't remember when.
I can feel that strange sensation
that comes to me and then
as quiet as it came it went away,
leaving an empty spot.
It was a flash, A fleeting glimpse
of someplace that I forgot.

I've seen this before. I know not where?
My eyes remember the sight.
I can see the scene before me
that brings to me a light,
a flicker that leaves me all too soon,
not knowing from where it came.
Surely, I'm not imagining these things
and I know that I am sane.

I've heard this before. The sound repeats
and echoes in my brain.
I can hear the voice that made the sound
but it doesn't ever remain.
I try my best to bring it back
from wherever it did go.
But, alas it now escapes me
and so I do not know

the source of all these happenings.
They must be a part of me,
lives I must have lived before
are the glimpses that I see.
Deja vu...Deja vu
come again to me.
Intrigue me with your strange allure.
Make my soul be free.

Common Things

I like to hear of wealth and gold,
And El Doradoes in their glory;
I like for silks and satins bold
To sweep and rustle through a story.

The nightingale is sweet of song;
The rare exotic smells divinely;
And knightly men who stride along,
The role heroic carry finely.

But then, upon the other hand,
Our minds have got a way of running
To things that aren't quite so grand,
Which, maybe, we are best in shunning.

For some of us still like to see
The poor man in his dwelling narrow,
The hollyhock, the bumblebee,
The meadow lark, and chirping sparrow.

We like the man who soars and sings
With high and lofty inspiration;
But he who sings of common things
Shall always share our admiration.

Invisible Strings

(ian hunter)
One, two, three
Well I woke up this morning - theres a girl in my bed.
How did she get there? was it something I said?
I dont understand it but somehow it seems
She visits me in invisible dreams.
Over and over I try to explain
How did that girl get into my veins?
Did somebody send her - was it my velvet wings?
And how does she touch my invisible strings?
Invisible strings - invisible strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Now its all over when the fat lady sings
Ill still be playing my invisible strings
Well maybe she dont have a world of her own
Maybe shes using me just like a phone
And sometimes shes cool and sometimes she stings
And Im all tangled up in invisible strings
Invisible strings - invisible strings
These are a few of my favorite things
When youre wearing black and Im wearing wings,
Well still be playing those invisible strings
Well she never leaves - Im never alone
I aint in the book but shes still calling home
I tried to lose her - watch the tv
But that womans always picking on me
Well, theres strings round my body, strings round my heart
Id like to know where the string-pulling starts
Id give anything to meet the angel who sends
Invisible ink to my invisible pen
Invisible strings - invisible strings
These are a few of my favorite things
When youre wearing black and Im wearing wings,
Well still be playing our invisible strings
Invisible strings - invisible strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Now its all over when the fat lady sings
Well still be playing our invisible strings
Invisible strings - invisible strings
Oh yeah

The Ancient Speech

A Gaelic bard they praise who in fourteen adjectives
Named the one indivisible soul of his glen;
For what are the bens and the glens but manifold qualities,
Immeasurable complexities of soul?
What are these isles but a song sung by island voices?
The herdsman sings ancestral memories
And the song makes the singer wise,
But only while he sings
Songs that were old when the old themselves were young,
Songs of these hills only, and of no isles but these.
For other hills and isles this language has no words.

The mountains are like manna, for one day given,
To each his own:
Strangers have crossed the sound, but not the sound of the dark oarsmen
Or the golden-haired sons of kings,
Strangers whose thought is not formed to the cadence of waves,
Rhythm of the sickle, oar and milking pail,
Whose words make loved things strange and small,
Emptied of all that made them heart-felt or bright.
Our words keep no faith with the soul of the world.
