She Gave Me A Rose
She gave a rose,
And I kissed it and pressed it.
I love her, she knows,
And my action confessed it.
She gave me a rose,
And I kissed it and pressed it.
Ah, how my heart glows,
Could I ever have guessed it?
It is fair to suppose
That I might have repressed it:
She gave me a rose,
And I kissed it and pressed it.
'T was a rhyme in life's prose
That uplifted and blest it.
Man's nature, who knows
Until love comes to test it?
She gave me a rose,
And I kissed it and pressed it.

You and My Shadow
You never noticed how your single glance
pressed my shadow on the wall.
And by simply smiling even once,
my pressed shadow falls
and melts into the ground.
As though some unseen force from you
had taken control around.
How come you never noticed
my shadow on the wall...
pressed by some unseen force
when by my name you called.
And how it hid beneath my feet
when your shadow's close to mine!
Just when I walked ahead of you,
it's almost left behind.
And now you kiss me with your lips,
your eyes have said it all.
But dear, have you noticed
my pressed shadow on the wall?

All I Need Is The Girl
Once my clothes where shabby
Tailors called me cabby
So I took a vow
Said this bum'll be Beau Brummell
Now I'm smooth and snappy
Now my tailor's happy
I'm the cat's meow
My wardrobe is a-wow
Paris silk, Harris tweed
There's only one thing I need
Got my tweed pressed
Got my best vest
All I need now is the girl
Got my striped tie
Got my hopes high
Got the time and the place and I got rhythm
Now all I need is the girl to go with 'em
If she'll just appear
We'll take this big town for a whirl
And if she'll say
"My darling, I'm yours," I'll throw away
My striped tie and my best pressed tweed
All I need now is the girl

Man We Was Lonely
Man we was lonely
Yes we was lonely
And we was hard pressed to find a smile
Man we was lonely
Yes we was lonely
But now were fine all the while
I used to ride on my fast city line
Singing songs that I thought were mine alone
Now let me lie with my love for the time I am home
Man we was lonely
Yes we was lonely
And we was hard pressed to find a smile
Man we was lonely
Yes we was lonely
But now were fine all the while
Now let me lie with my love for the time I am home
Man we was lonely
Yes we was lonely
And we was hard pressed to find a smile
Man we was lonely
Yes we was lonely
But now were fine all the while
But now were fine all the while
But now were fine all the while

Pressed Rat & Warthog
By ginger baker and mike taylor
Pressed rat and warthog have closed down their shop.
They didnt want to; twas all they had got.
Selling atonal apples, amplified heat,
And pressed rats collection of dog legs and feet.
Sadly they left, telling no one goodbye.
Pressed rat wore red jodhpurs, warthog a striped tie.
Between them, they carried a three-legged sack,
Went straight round the corner and never came back.
Pressed rat and warthog have closed down their shop.
The bad captain madman had told them to stop
Selling atonal apples, amplified heat,
And pressed rats collection of dog legs and feet.
The bad captain madman had ordered their fate.
He laughed and stomped off with a nautical gate.
The gate turned into a deroga tree
And his pegleg got woodworm and broke into three.
Pressed rat and warthog have closed down their shop.
They didnt want to; twas all they had got.
Selling atonal apples, amplified heat,
And pressed rats collection of dog legs and feet.

Long Flowing Robe
Cruising makes some people get uptight
But nothing beats a lonely friday night
Friday night, nothing much to do but hang around
Think I might just grab myself a cab and head downtown
And for hours, I hang around the dance hall crowd
I feel like a boor
But then I turned around and cast my eyes to the door
In a long flowing robe
She appeared at the ballroom door
I was hard-pressed to know
What I hoped she was looking for
Coming on at first may not seem right
But nothing beats a lover at first sight
What a sight, nothing can compare with simple grace
Its all right, I see it in the look upon her face
That she wants me the same way that Im wanting her
In fact maybe more
But as I take her hand
She turns and heads for the door
In a long flowing robe
She took off through the ballroom door
I was hard-pressed to know
What did she go and do that for
Friday night, nothing left to do but go to bed
Sleeping tight, when something stirring deep inside my head
Said wake up and cast your eyes to the door.
In a long flowing robe
She appeared at the bedroom door
I was hard-pressed to know
What I knew she was looking for

A test of menopause
A lad and lass, in a hottest day,
On the shore of Elliot Beach, at dusk
Stood pressed, her hands round his nape,
His circling her waist, inviting each wave
To get drenched and pressed still more-
A sight that triggered in me a jealousy,
A sign that I am under menopause.

When the old woman is hard pressed, she has to run.
I think I'd have done better if I had been a little more relaxed-if I had not pressed quite so hard, if I'd not lost quite so much sleep.

The Poem You Asked For
My poem would eat nothing.
I tried giving it water
but it said no,
worrying me.
Day after day,
I held it up to the llight,
turning it over,
but it only pressed its lips
more tightly together.
It grew sullen, like a toad
through with being teased.
I offered it money,
my clothes, my car with a full tank.
But the poem stared at the floor.
Finally I cupped it in
my hands, and carried it gently
out into the soft air, into the
evening traffic, wondering how
to end things between us.
For now it had begun breathing,
putting on more and
more hard rings of flesh.
And the poem demanded the food,
it drank up all the water,
beat me and took my money,
tore the faded clothes
off my back,
said Shit,
and walked slowly away,
slicking its hair down.
Said it was going
over to your place.

Taste And See
You, friend, would be hard-pressed, to find a day you aren’t blessed,
When you know the Lord above, Who fills our heart with joy and love,
Love that prompts you all your days, to lift up to our God real praise,
Praise of thanks lifted to the One, Who sent to men His Beloved Son.
You’d be hard-pressed too friend, to not find God around each bend,
Traveling down all paths of this life, in good times and those of strife.
Wherever you go, God will be there, when no one else, seems to care,
Even with your trials far behind, God is there providing peace of mind.
Friend, it’s very hard to reason why, The Lord above, one would deny,
When it was God, who loved us first, as we were sinners, at our worst,
And yet, He died for you and me, to grant sinners a new life, eternally,
While all you must do is to believe, and Eternal Life, you shall receive.
It was The Lord, who paid the price, when His Son became a sacrifice,
When we as sinners, were at enmity, with The Lord God of all Eternity,
The God above and Eternal Creator, became our Lord and our Savior,
When He displayed amazing Love, redeeming us with His shed Blood.
Today if you thirst and hunger friend, The Lamb of God I recommend,
Who died for the sin of every man, as core of God’s redemptive plan,
So taste and see, that God is good, and join His Eternal Brotherhood,
Looking forward to Eternal Life, with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

The Nuclear Button
Inside the base hid underground,
The little button stayed
Until the man was duty bound,
Commands to be obeyed...
Then suddenly the button pressed
And then all Hell broke loose,
While he threw up, poor chap, distressed,
God knows, that's not good news...
The Doctor came to treat the man,
To calm his heart rate down,
He said, 'There, there...' while tests he ran
And eased the poor chap's frown...
'You did your duty! Take this pill,
It takes away your pain...
You won't be feeling quite so ill,
With no need to complain..'
The man returned to where he'd left
And felt a sense of doom
And suddenly he felt bereft,
Condemned and full of gloom...
The button that he pressed was there
With someone at its side,
Removing it with solemn care,
With tears he couldn't hide...
'It's going to the President...
As proof of what was done...
As proof it was no accident...
But how this war was won! '
The man was very slow to speak,
'I pressed that button, friend! '
'No wonder that you look so weak...
Your country to defend...'
He got a medal, yes, indeed...
It's in a drawer upstairs...
That's where he says his holy creed
And where he says his prayers...
That's where he tries to sleep each night,
In silence all alone...
Until he asks, 'Did I do right? '
And yet the answer's known...

Makes Me Happy
I still know you
I know everything about you
And everything about you makes me happy
I still see you
I see everything that surrounds you
And everything surrounding you makes me happy
I still feel you
I feel every inch of you pressed against me
And you pressed against me makes me happy
I still need you
I always need to know your there
And knowing that your there makes me happy
YOU are what makes me happy

Steaming Wienerschnitzels
Pressed against their lips and bunned,
Are my steaming wienerschnitzels.
Some prefer 'der' wienerschnitzel...
But it's really 'das'.
Wiener Schnitzel means breaded veal cutlet,
Vienna style.
When Wiener Wursten means hot dog...
'DERlicious' with a smile.
Pressed against their lips and bunned,
Are my steaming wienerschnitzels.
Some prefer 'der' wienerschnitzel...
But it's really 'das'.
'Listen...
And carefully!
I could care less if it is German.
Nathan's,
Or National Kosher Beef.
May we have our hotdogs with mustard and relish.
With far less history and 'no' singing...
Please?
Thank you! '
You two are not from Brooklyn.

Not with 'that' attitude.
That's for sure!
