Sonnets 11: As To Some Lovely Temple, Tenantless
As to some lovely temple, tenantless
Long since, that once was sweet with shivering brass,
Knowing well its altars ruined and the grass
Grown up between the stones, yet from excess
Of grief hard driven, or great loneliness,
The worshiper returns, and those who pass
Marvel him crying on a name that was,—
So is it now with me in my distress.
Your body was a temple to Delight;
Cold are its ashes whence the breath is fled,
Yet here one time your spirit was wont to move;
Here might I hope to find you day or night,
And here I come to look for you, my love,
Even now, foolishly, knowing you are dead.

It might be lonelier
405
It might be lonelier
Without the Loneliness—
I'm so accustomed to my Fate—
Perhaps the Other—Peace—
Would interrupt the Dark—
And crowd the little Room—
Too scant—by Cubits—to contain
The Sacrament—of Him—
I am not used to Hope—
It might intrude upon—
Its sweet parade—blaspheme the place—
Ordained to Suffering—
It might be easier
To fail—with Land in Sight—
Than gain—My Blue Peninsula—
To perish—of Delight—

Body Is A Temple
They say your body is a temple, and I found
This to be true, for in my temple I found you.
I felt your soul surround me like a mist
On a foggy day, and right then I knew
That in my heart forever you would stay.
My body is a temple and
You are the foundation
you control my heart
And every sensation.
Now this temple had become a temple of two
For it belonged to me and you.
We built this temple for all the world to see
That thru love this is the way it should be.
When you’ve shared the most precious
Moments that GOD did provide
When not on all topics did we see eye to eye
When in sickness you was the comforting stone
And you know that you’re not alone.
When that temple seems to be falling apart
And you‘ve lost all hope in your heart.
When it seems like you have no other place to go
And your thoughts are moving slow
That is when you turn to the lord above
To show you how to rekindle that love.
The body is a temple and in it I found you
And with your strength I know what I have to do.
I will rebuild this temple with the love of my life
For you are my partner, my lover, my wife.

Grief is a Mouse
793
Grief is a Mouse—
And chooses Wainscot in the Breast
For His Shy House—
And baffles quest—
Grief is a Thief—quick startled—
Pricks His Ear—report to hear
Of that Vast Dark—
That swept His Being—back—
Grief is a Juggler—boldest at the Play—
Lest if He flinch—the eye that way
Pounce on His Bruises—One—say—or Three—
Grief is a Gourmand—spare His luxury—
Best Grief is Tongueless—before He'll tell—
Burn Him in the Public Square—
His Ashes—will
Possibly—if they refuse—How then know—
Since a Rack couldn't coax a syllable—now.

The Body grows without

The Body grows without—
The more convenient way—
That if the Spirit—like to hide
Its Temple stands, alway,
Ajar—secure—inviting&md ash;
It never did betray
The Soul that asked its shelter
In solemn honesty

The Night, Glorious Light
Shadows fall.
The day is old.
The night is peaceful. Quiet.
In this time I can't deny it.
My thoughts are clear.
My spirit cheers.
As I wonder why these fears?
All that's there is joyus splendor.
Knowing of your love so tender.
Never denying.
No need for crying.
Knowing that the worlds not dying.
The night is cold.
In your love I feel so warm.
Telling you I feel no harm.
As I sit here in the night.
In your precious charm I delight.
It never ends your sacred light.
It lifts my spirit to keep the fight ever onward through this night.
I'll feel no remorse or spite.
Please stay with me.
Help me choose the right.
Lead me to your glorious light.

A New Life
(lowe/springs/tennant)
-------------
At night it hits me cold
Theres so much more to life than Ill ever know
I look around and I realise
Its time to make a move, though you wont sympathise
Stars collect overhead
They look down on the channel and our lives grown dead
Cars pass on through the night
How do you get to heaven if you never try?
New life, new love
Wheres the heart I was dreaming of?
I need a new hope, new dream
Another heart in a different scene
Make a firm decision, its time to go
Thats for you to find out and for me to know
No more hard times or petty crimes
Forget that life I have left behind
The night goes by
Leaving you behind me, as I fly
Then rise, the day and night sky
How do you get to heaven if you never try?
New life, new love
Wheres the heart I was dreaming of?
I need a new hope, new dream
Another heart in a different scene
A new life, its so hard to find
A new love, its so hard to find
The night goes by
Leaving you behind me, as I fly
There lies the day in that sky
How do you get to heaven if you never try?
New life, new love
Wheres the heart I was dreaming of?
I need a new hope, new dream
Another heart in a different scene
New life, new love
Wheres the heart I was dreaming of?
I need a new hope, new dream
Another heart in a different scene

Fitter to see Him, I may be
968
Fitter to see Him, I may be
For the long Hindrance—Grace—to Me—
With Summers, and with Winters, grow,
Some passing Year—A trait bestow
To make Me fairest of the Earth—
The Waiting—then—will seem so worth
I shall impute with half a pain
The blame that I was chosen—then—
Time to anticipate His Gaze—
It's first—Delight—and then—Surprise—
The turning o'er and o'er my face
For Evidence it be the Grace—
He left behind One Day—So less
He seek Conviction, That—be This—
I only must not grow so new
That He'll mistake—and ask for me
Of me—when first unto the Door
I go—to Elsewhere go no more—
I only must not change so fair
He'll sigh—"The Other—She—is Where?"
The Love, tho', will array me right
I shall be perfect—in His sight—
If He perceive the other Truth—
Upon an Excellenter Youth—
How sweet I shall not lack in Vain—
But gain—thro' loss—Through Grief—obtain—
The Beauty that reward Him best—
The Beauty of Demand—at Rest—

Knowing you
Exhausted and tired, I met you,
All the right reasons I saw,
Asked for a hand you gave me both,
Called for care I received love,
Knowing you knowing love
Shivering without any hope,
I asked for warmth i got heat,
In your tender arms i rested,
Darling give me more
Knowing you is knowing love
You took me by the hand,
Whispered in my ear,
You called me to your side,
You loved so dearly,
Take my hand you will see,
Love is becoming us,
Knowing you is knowing love
Tell me you love me,
With words im healed,
With the gentle touch im in ecstacy,
Knowing you was a fortune,
Like a beggar finding gold,
Knowing you was knowing love

Heart, not so heavy as mine
83
Heart, not so heavy as mine
Wending late home—
As it passed my window
Whistled itself a tune—
A careless snatch—a ballad—A ditty of the street—
Yet to my irritated Ear
An Anodyne so sweet—
It was as if a Bobolink
Sauntering this way
Carolled, and paused, and carolled—
Then bubbled slow away!
It was as if a chirping brook
Upon a dusty way—
Set bleeding feet to minuets
Without the knowing why!
Tomorrow, night will come again—
Perhaps, weary and sore—
Ah Bugle! By my window
I pray you pass once more.

Ode to Houses of Worship
my heart just refuses to be bound
i walk into the hindu temple
to savour the myriad manifestations
of the formless God, who can take any form
i walk into a buddhist temple
knowing that all the manifestations
wont help us one bit if we dont help ourselves
to heaven, nirvana, syurga, tiang tang
God can be a wine we lose our mind in
if we do not take him in the right way
whom we go to favours without fail
draining the blood of a thousand animals
in the mad scamble for favours in this sin laden realm
forgetting the task to liberate ourselves
buddha's wise dharma has brought us to our senses
that the soul is our responsibility and ours alone God or no God
and animals cannot walk us to God
if we dont even have a heart for them
I walk into a Christian Church
knowing that the love of God knows no bound
that as much as we sacrifice for him
he too would be ready to sacrifice for us
i walk into a mosque
knowing that there is but One God
a formless Spirit that dwells in us all
that listens and talks to us day in day out
dawn to dusk and dusk to dawn anywhere, any time
that all the earth can be burnt down to
just one simple thing - ash
because we all come from one source,
one nature and One God
i walk away with an open heart
knowing that i have read all the scriptures
with an open heart, knowing that if the heart is closed
to words of love, of kindness, to men to animals
that if i have a heart closed to all these
heaven's doors too will be close when i am there

Love Me, Lovely
Lovely, lovely, did you see me
Just as I was crying
Love me lovely, make it easy
What I say is hard but I am trying
Lovely, lovely, can you hear me
Listen to my singing
Love me lovely, while youre near me
Try and understand the thought Im bringing
Last night I was sleeping
But I did not know if Id awaken today
Lie in my keeping, only know
That I cant stay after today
Im on my way - love me lovely
Love me lovely
Lovely, lovely, you cant fool me
I know that you need me
Love me, lovely, now and truly
Knowing that your love can only speed me
Dont say how it could be
Or Ill know that youll be crying today
Just how it should be I dont know
So this Ill say
Im on my way - love me lovely
Love me lovely
Last night I was sleeping
But I did not know if Id awaken today
Lie in my keeping, only know
That I cant stay after today
Im on my way - love me lovely
Love me lovely

A Murmur in the Trees—to note
416
A Murmur in the Trees—to note—
Not loud enough—for Wind—
A Star—not far enough to seek—
Nor near enough—to find—
A long—long Yellow—on the Lawn—
A Hubbub—as of feet—
Not audible—as Ours—to Us—
But dapperer—More Sweet—
A Hurrying Home of little Men
To Houses unperceived—
All this—and more—if I should tell—
Would never be believed—
Of Robins in the Trundle bed
How many I espy
Whose Nightgowns could not hide the Wings—
Although I heard them try—
But then I promised ne'er to tell—
How could I break My Word?
So go your Way—and I'll go Mine—
No fear you'll miss the Road.

Tis good—the looking back on Grief
660
'Tis good—the looking back on Grief—
To re-endure a Day—
We thought the Mighty Funeral—
Of All Conceived Joy—
To recollect how Busy Grass
Did meddle—one by one—
Till all the Grief with Summer—waved
And none could see the stone.
And though the Woe you have Today
Be larger—As the Sea
Exceeds its Unremembered Drop—
They're Water—equally—

Wind so Cold
Wind so cold
like a heartless person
love is like a ghost
always going with the wind
never to stay in one place for long
Wind so cold
waiting for the warm
summer breeze to come
but knowing it wont
last for so long
Wind so cold
knowing it'll last forever
never knowing when
it'll end

Crying Shame
I cried all night just thinking of you
I wonder now what Im going to do
Since you left me for that friend of mine
Every second is just crying time
I cry cos my heart is in pain
I cry though I know its in vain
But knowing this I cry all the same
I wake at night crying out your name
You said that youd never leave
I never listened that you were a tease
People talk about me behind my back
They dont understand its the passion they lack
People go around and whisper my name
They think its a laugh because I never complain
But to my face they are always the same
They dont understand its a crying shame
You always sais that you needed me,
Exactly what for I find it hard to see
Ive sat up all night wishing you were still mine
Now I understand theres better things to do with my time
I cry cos my heart is in pain
I cry though I know its in vain
But knowing this I cry all the same
I wake at night crying out your name
I cry each night with tears in my eyes
I cant believe you are telling me lies
People go around whispering my name
Dont they know its a crying shame
I cry cos my heart is in pain
I cry though I know its in vain
But knowing this I cry all the same
I wake at night crying out your name

If I may have it, when it's dead
577
If I may have it, when it's dead,
I'll be contented—so—
If just as soon as Breath is out
It shall belong to me—
Until they lock it in the Grave,
'Tis Bliss I cannot weigh—
For tho' they lock Thee in the Grave,
Myself—can own the key—
Think of it Lover! I and Thee
Permitted—face to face to be—
After a Life—a Death—We'll say—
For Death was That—
And this—is Thee—
I'll tell Thee All—how Bald it grew—
How Midnight felt, at first—to me—
How all the Clocks stopped in the World—
And Sunshine pinched me—'Twas so cold—
Then how the Grief got sleepy—some—
As if my Soul were deaf and dumb—
Just making signs—across—to Thee—
That this way—thou could'st notice me—
I'll tell you how I tried to keep
A smile, to show you, when this Deep
All Waded—We look back for Play,
At those Old Times—in Calvary,
Forgive me, if the Grave come slow—
For Coveting to look at Thee—
Forgive me, if to stroke thy frost
Outvisions Paradise!

Time To Move On
Its time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
Its time to move on, it s time to get going
Broken skyline, movin through the airport
Shes an honest defector
Conscientious objector
Now her own protector
Broken skyline, which way to love land
Which way to something better
Which way to fo rgiveness
Which way do, I go
Its time to move on, time to get going
What lies ahead I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
Its time to move on, its time to get going
Sometime later, getting the words wrong
Wasting the meaning, and losing the rhyme
Nauseous adrenaline
Like breakin up a dog fight
Like a deer in the headlights
Frozen in real time
Im losing my mind
Its time to move on, time to get going
Wh at lies ahead I have no way of knowing
But under my feet, baby, grass is growing
Its time to move on, its time to get going

I Need A Man
When Im feelin lonely,
Someone telephone me,
Its gettin hard to pass my time.
Take me outa dieing,
Watch me while Im flyin,
Baby, its a waste of time.
I need a man, perhaps a man like you,
I need a man, to make my dreams come true.
Say that you will find him,
Creeping up behind him,
Moving round the town all day.
Well, Im underestimated,
Highly underated,
Can there be another way?
I need a man, perhaps a man like you,
I need a man, and I need a man.
And then I wont be feelin lonely,
Knowing Im the only one.
Hell understand,
Oh, what Im feelin deep inside me,
Knowing that at last hes gone.
Oh well,
Gettin tired of lookin,
Wastin all my cookin,
Ending in a dreadful row.
Can somebody tell me,
Say to me, or sell me,
Why Im feelin lonely, oh.
I need a man, perhaps a man like you,
I need a man to make my dreams,
And I need a man.
And at night I wont be lonely,
Knowing Im the only one.
Hell understand,
Oh, what Im feelin deep inside me,
Knowing that at last hes gone.
Its maybe that Im dreaming,
Cant say they Ive seen him,
Somehow, I just got to find.
Someone outstanding,
Goes without [? ],
[? ]
I need a man like you, to make my dreams come true,
Perhaps that man is you!

A Love In Vain
Long night, too long and lonely
Laying there asking myself
Hey, whats going on with you and me
How could I be so unaware
So blind I could not see
Knowing youd be there
And always would be
Is anyone to blame but me
Ive been so concerned with myself
Now I need you desperately
If youve fallen for another
Lets be honest with each other
Is there still a chance
And maybe hope to save our romance
We cant be strangers
You mean too much to me
I wont let this be a love in vain
Dont want the loneliness
Of just a memory
I dont want a love in vain
Just one more night, I want to spend with you
Well let our hearts do the talking
Like we used to do
Well make our first kiss last forever
Put the pieces back together
cause theres still a chance
There may be hope to save our romance
We cant be strangers
You mean to much to me
I wont let this be a love in vain, dont want a love in vain
I dont want the loneliness
Of just a memory
Dont want a love in vain
Oh, woman look what youve done to me
Ill show you how this love should be
Dont let it be a love in vain
Please dont, dont you know
You got my heart on a string
Dont let go
Dont let this love be a love in vain
We cant be strangers
Its not our destiny
I wont let this be a love in vain, dont want a love in vain
Dont want the loneliness
Of just a memory
Dont let this be a love in vain
