[Four Sonnets (1922)]

I1.
Love, though for this you riddle me with darts,
.
And drag me at your chariot till I die, --
.
Oh, heavy prince! Oh, panderer of hearts! --
.
Yet hear me tell how in their throats they lie
.
Who shout you mighty: thick about my hair,
.
Day in, day out, your ominous arrows purr,
.
Who still am free, unto no querulous care
.
A fool, and in no temple worshiper!
.
I, that have bared me to your quiver's fire,
.

Lifted my face into its puny rain,
.

Do wreathe you Impotent to Evoke Desire
.

As you are Powerless to Elicit Pain!
.

(Now will the god, for blasphemy so brave,
.

Punish me, surely, with the shaft I crave!) II2.
I think I should have loved you presently,
.
And given in earnest words I flung in jest;
.
And lifted honest eyes for you to see,
.
And caught your hand against my cheek and breast;
.
And all my pretty follies flung aside
.
That won you to me, and beneath your gaze,
.
Naked of reticence and shorn of pride,
.
Spread like a chart my little wicked ways.
.
I, that had been to you, had you remained,
.

But one more waking from a recurrent dream,
.

Cherish no less the certain stakes I gained,
.

And walk your memory's halls, austere, supreme,
.

A ghost in marble of a girl you knew
.

Who would have loved you in a day or two. III3.
Oh, think not I am faithful to a vow!
.
Faithless am I save to love's self alone.
.
Were you not lovely I would leave you now:
.
After the feet of beauty fly my own.
.
Were you not still my hunger's rarest food,
.
And water ever to my wildest thirst,
.
I would desert you -- think not but I would! --
.
And seek another as I sought you first.
.
But you are mobile as the veering air,
.

And all your charms more changeful than the tide,
.

Wherefore to be inconstant is no care:
.

I have but to continue at your side.
.

So wanton, light and false, my love, are you,
.

I am most faithless when I most am true. IV4.
I shall forget you presently, my dear,
.
So make the most of this, your little day,
.
Your little month, your little half a year,
.
Ere I forget, or die, or move away,
.
And we are done forever; by and by
.
I shall forget you, as I said, but now,
.
If you entreat me with your loveliest lie
.
I will protest you with my favorite vow.
.
I would indeed that love were longer-lived,
.

And vows were not so brittle as they are,
.

But so it is, and nature has contrived
.

To struggle on without a break thus far, --
.

Whether or not we find what we are seeking
.

Is idle, biologically speaking.

Will you forget me presently

Will you forget me presently
~
I have come to the reasoning
I were never one for this world
Will you forget me presently
Let me slip into the nothingness
From which I once came
Do not speak my name anymore
Allow me to become forgotten
For as much as I would have liked
I were never one for this world
I have come to the acceptance
That love will not find me
And by the choices I have made
A strange madness awaits
I gave my mind so I could write
I gave my heart to be inspired
And now as I look upon it all
I ask but of one little thing
Will you forget me presently
Burn my poetry and pictures
Let me become a lost memory
I were never one for this world
I never managed to quite fit in
So I ask of you in all your kindness
Will you forget me presently

Separate Ways

Here we stand
Worlds apart, hearts broken in two, two, two
Sleepless nights
Losing ground
I'm reaching for you, you, you
Feelin' that it's gone
Can change your mind
If we can't go on
To survive the tide love divides
Someday love will find you
Break those chains that bind you
One night will remind you
How we touched
And went our separate ways
If he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
You know i still love you
Though we touched
And went our separate ways
Troubled times
Caught between confusions and pain, pain, pain
Distant eyes
Promises we made were in vain, vain, vain
If you must go, i wish you love
You'll never walk alone
Take care my love
Miss you love
(chorus twice)
I still love you girl
I really love you girl
And if he ever hurts you
True love won't desert you
No, no

Love Lifted Me

Randy Travis & Mac Powell
(Randy)
I was sinkin' deep in sin
Far from the peaceful shore
Very deeply stained within
Sinking to rise no more.
But the master of the sea
Heard my despairing cry
And from the waters lifted me
Now safe am I.
(Both)
Love lifted me
Love lifted me
When nothing else could help
Love lifted me.
Love lifted me
Love lifted me
When nothing else could help
Love lifted me.
--- Instrumental ---
(Mac)
All my heart to him I give
Ever to him I'll cling
In his blessed presence live
Ever his praises sing.
(Randy)
Love so mighty and so true
Merits my soul's best song
Faithful, loving service too
To him belongs
(Both)
Love lifted me
Love lifted me
When nothing else could help
Love lifted me.
Love lifted me
Love lifted me
When nothing else could help
Love lifted me.
(Mac)
Love lifted me...

I'm Dead

Forget the girl you used to know,
The one you thought was 'sound'.
Forget the girl you never noticed
And didn't care when she was around.

Forget the girl you used to talk to
But never looked to truly 'see'.
Forget that girl, the world's lost her,
You'll never again see that girl in me.

Forget the girl who laughed at all your jokes,
The one with the nervous smile.
Forget her now because you don't care,
She just entertained you for a while.

Forget the girl that made YOU smile,
She won't do that anymore.
Forget her now until she's just a memory
Of someone you once knew before.

Forget that girl, but, I think you already did
As you picked that other girl instead.
Forget that girl, I've changed my ways
And now that girl is dead.

Living Angels

May god keep you in his loving care
Until we meet again
Forever missed forever loved
Its hard to believe
Three years have passed
A day does not go by
That your not thought of
You are forever in our hearts
Forever loved
This day is remembered
And quietly kept
No words are needed
We shall never forget
For those we love dont go away
They walk beside us everyday
Unseen and unheard
But always near
So loved so missed and so very dear
With all of our love
They will live on

This Poem Is Not A Dream

THIS POEM IS NOT A DREAM

This poem is not a dream
It comes from where so many true poems come
From the other side of the mind
When it does not know peace -
From the waking desire
The hunger that is not satisfied
The lonely life and the lonely mind-
It comes from the search for love
And the love itself – the joy of love-
And from the memory of what we most deeply know when we are ourselves in love of another-
This poem is not a dream-
It comes from the waking world and the waking words-
The hard truths the bitter small things
The disappointments and rejections
The endless small humiliations which Time and Chance make of us all-
This poem comes from where we are most human
With the pain of those closest to us-
And our longing to save them and be loved forever by them-
The dream is not the poem
Life in its all its endless difficulties is the poem
And this poem too
Does not say half of all the hurt I have suffered in this one small day alone.

Variations Upon Love

I
For God's sake, let me love you, and give over
These tedious protestations of a lover;
We're of one mind to love, and there's no let:
Remember that, and all the rest forget.
And let's be happy, mistress, while we may,
Ere yet to-morrow shall be called to-day.
To-morrow may be heedless, idle-hearted:
One night's enough for love to have met and parted.
Then be it now, and I'll not say that I
In many several deaths for you would die;
And I'll not ask you to declare that you
Will longer love than women mostly do.
Leave words to them whom words, not doings, move,
And let our silence answer for our love.
II
Oh, woman! I am jealous of the eyes
That look upon you; all my looks are spies
That do but lurk and follow you about,
Restless to find some guilty secret out.
I am unhappy if I see you not,
Unhappy if I see you; tell me what
That smile betokens? what close thing is hid
Beneath the half-way lifting of a lid?
Who is it, tell me, I so dread to meet,
Just as we turn the corner of the street?
Daily I search your baffling eyes to see
Who knows what new admitted company?
And, sick with dread to find the thing I seek,
I tremble at the name you do not speak.
III
I know your lips are bought like any fruit;
I know your love, and of your love the root;
I know your kisses toll for love that dies
In kissing, to be buried in your eyes;
I know I am degraded for your sake,
And that my shame will not so much as make
Your glory, or be reckoned in the debt
Of memories you are mindful to forget.
All this I know, and, knowing it, I come
Delighted to my daily martyrdom;
And, rich in love beyond the common store,
Become for you a beggar, to implore
The broken crumbs that from your table fall,
Freely, in your indifference, on all.
IV
I loved her; and you say she loved me not.
Well, if I loved her? And if she forgot,
Well, I have not forgotten even yet:
Time, and spent tears, may teach me to forget.
And so she loves another, and did then
When she was heaven and earth to me, and when,
Truly, she made me happy. It may be:
I only know how good she was to me.
Friend, to have loved, to have been made happy thus,
What better fate has life in store for us,
The dream of life from which we have to wake,
Happier, why not? why not for a dream's sake?
To have been loved is well, and well enough
For any man: but 'tis enough to love.

Forget Him

Forget his name
Forget his face
Forget his kiss
His warm embrace
Forget the love that you once knew
Remember he has someone new
Forget him when they played your song
Remember when you cried all night long
Forget how you memorized his walk
Forget the way he used to talk
Forget the things he used to say
Remember he has gone away
Forget his laugh forget his grin
Forget the dimples on his chin
Forget the way he held you tight
Remember he's with her tonight
Forget the time that went so fast
Forget the love that moved, it's past
Forget he said he'd leave you never

For You

For you, I could forget the gay
Delirium of merriment,
And let my laughter die away
In endless silence of content.
I could forget, for your dear sake,
The utter emptiness and ache
Of every loss I ever knew.--
What could I not forget for you?

I could forget the just deserts
Of mine own sins, and so erase
The tear that burns, the smile that hurts,
And all that mars or masks my face.
For your fair sake I could forget
The bonds of life that chafe and fret,
Nor care if death were false or true.--
What could I not forget for you?

What could I not forget? Ah me!
One thing, I know, would still abide
Forever in my memory,
Though all of love were lost beside--
I yet would feel how first the wine
Of your sweet lips made fools of mine
Until they sung, all drunken through--
'What could I not forget for you?'

Not Over You Yet

(malik pendelton/kenneth kelly)
Check it out
You were the first who ever brought me out
Showed me what life and love was all about
Gave me things that I never need
Youre in my thoughts, my every dream
I found joy in your touch, I miss your kisses
The way you made me blush
Life is cruel now that youre gone
I love you so I cant let go, yeah
Not over you yet
Not trying to forget
The way that you loved me
Not over you yet
Not trying to forget
The way that you loved me
I hate you so for what you done to me
Made me fall in love with no security
I gotta move on move on my life
But its so hard when youre still on my mind
I found joy in your touch
I miss your kisses the way you made me blush
Life is cruel now that youre gone
I love you so I cant let go
Im crazy for you
Not over you yet
Not trying to forget
The way that you loved me
Not over you yet
Not trying to forget
The way that you loved me
Not over you yet
Not trying to forget
The way that you loved me
Not over you yet
Not trying to forget
The way that you loved me
I miss your kisses
I miss your touch
Im crazy for you
Not over you yet
Not trying to forget
The way that you loved me
Not over you yet
Not trying to forget
The way that you loved me
Not over you yet
Not trying to forget
The way that you loved me

This New Year

Im gonna find true love
This new year
January blues
The nights are dark and cold
The heartaches are frozen so they hount you
February snows
Abandoned cars and glowing fires
Sunlight from a shining spire blinds you
Dont you depend on love thats here then gone
Dont you look back to where the tears came from
This new year
Were gonna make it work now and for a lifetime
This new year
Gonna spread the word and shout it from the rooftops
Gonna find true love and cherish it, cherish it always
This new year
Cool winds in the spring
Blow the cobwebs out
Take away the doubts with freedom
Hear this beating heart
The feeling so alive
With you right by my side Ill never die lonely
We must depend on love thats here to stay
And jesus loves you more than you can say
This new year
Were gonna make it work now and for a lifetime
This new year
Were gonna spread the word and shout it from the rooftops
Were gonna find true love and cherish it, cherish it always
Well see a new revival call yeah
Well reach out to the broken ones
Well tell it to the world
To every boy and girl that love has come
This new year
Were gonna find true love
Ooh cherish it
This new year
Were gonna make it work now and for a lifetime
This new year
Were gonna spread the word and shout it from the rooftops
This new year
We re gonna find true love and cherish it always
This new year
Were gonna reach out to this new year

The Price

Pity all faithless women who have loved. None knows
How much it hurts a woman to do wrong to love.
The mother who has felt the child within her move,
Shall she forget her child, and those ecstatic throes?

Then pity faithless women who have loved. These have
Murdered within them something born out of their pain.
These mothers of the child whom they have loved and slain
May not so much as lay the child within a grave.

I Dont Believe In Love

I awoke on impact
Under surveillance from the camera eye
Searching high and low
The criminal mind found at the scene of the crime
Handcuffed and blind, I didnt do it
She said she loved me
I guess I never knew
But do we ever, ever really know?
She said shed meet me on the other side
But I knew right then, Id never find her
I dont believe in love
I never have, I never will
I dont believe in love
Its never worth the pain that you feel
No more nightmares, Ive seen them all
From the day I was born, theyve haunted my every move
Every open hands there to push and shove
No time for love it doesnt matter
She made a difference
I guess she had a way
Of making every night seem bright as day
Now I walk in shadows, never see the light
She must have lied cause she never said goodbye
I dont believe in love
I never have, I never will
I dont believe in love
Ill just pretend she never was real
I dont believe in lovev I need to forget her face, I see it still
I dont believe in love
Its never worth the pain that you feel
No chance for contact
Theres no raison detre
My only hope is one day Ill forget
The pain of knowing what can never be
With or without love its all the same to me
I dont believe in love
I never have, I never will
I dont believe in love
Ill just pretend she never was real
I dont believe in love
I need to forget her face, I see it still
I dont believe in love
Its never worth the pain that you feel
