Second Nature
WHEN I was young how fair the skies,
Such folly of cloud, such blue depths wise,
Such dews of morn, such calms of eve,
So many the lure and the reprieve--
Life seemed a toy to break and mend
And make a charm of in the end.
Then slowly all the dew dried up
And only dust lay in the cup;
And since, to slake his thirst, man must,
I sought a cup that had no dust,
And found it at the Goat and Vine--
Mingled of brandy, beer and wine.
The goat-cup, straight, drew down the skies
And lit them in lunatick wise:
What had been rose went scarlet red,
And the pearl tints grew like the dead.
And the fresh primrose of the morn
Was the wet red of rain-spoiled corn.
Now, with a head that aches and nods
I hold weak hands out to the gods;
And oh! forgiving gods and kind,
They give me healing to my mind,
And show me once again the lawn
Green and clear-gemmed with dews of dawn.
O gods, who look down from above
Upon our tangle of lust and love,
And, in your purity, perceive
The worth of what our follies leave:
Give us but this, and sink the rest--
To know that dew and dawn are best.

Blue Skies Bring Tears
Unleash the armageddon
So all the children go to heaven
I sit by quiet still
With their pictures on my eyes
You'll draw the guns your given
Write down the words as written
And never disturb the presense
Of resurrection touch
And it's about time
It's about drawing near
Blue skies bring tears
Blue skies bring tears
Blue skies bring tears
Descend the darkened stairway
Make hate with plastic playmates
And fire out remaining traces
Of your self esteem
Mainline the deepest secrets
Lick clean the dirty fingers
I am a stranger to you
As you are to yourself
And it's about time
It's about fear
Blue skies bring tears
Don't you want me (don't want you)
Cause I await cityside
We'll watch the seas start to die
Blue skies bring tears
Take me inside your body
Blue skies bring tears
Cover me with your soul
Blue skies bring tears
To the darkest reasons
Blue skies bring tears
Is where I wish to go
Blue skies bring tears
You are the sweetest flower
Blue skies bring tears
That I have ever devoured
Blue skies bring tears
I ask for nothing given
Blue skies bring tears
For nothing in return
Blue skies bring tears

Life of a Cloud
Warming thermals whisper as they rise,
To tell us they are soon to bring to view
In cooler air aloft before your eyes:
A gentle wisp to counterpoint the blue.
Powder puffs emerge to grant her grace
That further bloom as would for stately tree, and
Yield a sight that calls for our embrace:
Another cloud anew above the lea.
Cruising forth, she yearns for ageless life.
O how her hopes will soon be dashed in vain,
For up there in the cold she courts her strife,
To fade away as drops of closing rain.
Scant and lacy speak her living span,
And fair among us could be brought to mourn,
But she was there to populate her clan:
From fallen tears, new daughters will be born.

The Lure Of Writing
The lure of writing
is not an easy one to break
once it has you in its grip.
It won’t let you go,
make no mistake.
You can struggle all you want,
but you can never win.
You can turn your back on it
saying I will never write again,
but you will.
The lure of writing
is not and easy one to break,
it will seduce you with dreams
and no matter how many times
they are crushed
the lure of writing
will draw you back again
and again and again.

Sonnet 11
Which are the clouds, and which the mountains? See,
They mix and melt together! Yon blue hill
Looks fleeting as the vapors which distill
Their dews upon its summit, while the free
And far-off clouds, now solid, dark, and still,
An aspect wear of calm eternity.
Each seems the other, as our fancies will --
The cloud a mount, the mount a cloud, and we
Gaze doubtfully. So everywhere on earth,
This foothold where we stand with slipping feet,
The unsubstantial and substantial meet,
And we are fooled until made wise by Time.
Is not the obvious lesson something worth,
Lady? or have I wov'n an idle rhyme?

From The Floating Stage
To the unsealed minds He does open,
The mysteries, removes fog of doubts,
And places He on the vantage landings,
Where from observe the awakening eyes,
The sights unknown to the minds carnal.
It was a dream or a vision of reality,
The wise may decide who have authority,
Sitting upon the edge of a stage,
Very small floating into the spaces,
Got I a chance to look down beneath,
Bottomless abyss was enough to break,
The brittle hearts at the very first glance;
Saw nothing else but endless depths,
Stretching down, down deep down,
The blue spaces as we do see above,
Merged into dark down beneath,
A few stars shone deep far below,
As lights do glow when fog prevails,
The horror lest should I slip down,
Brought dews on the pale forehead.

Ocean Blue
Well you took me home
And you took me back
But deep down inside
The feeling just died and i
Couldnt see why
From indigo to royal blue
I travel far but no one will do
Anytime, anyplace
Every shape every face
Brings memories of you
Blue to be blue
To be blue
Ocean blue
Blue to be blue
To be blue
Ocean blue - ocean blue
Fair weather friends might drift away
When summer ends and skies burn grey
So I walk to the ocean
Pilot these shores
Just thinking of you
Its time we kissed the clouds goodbye
From now on its strictly blue sky
Come rain and shine
The outlook is still fine
Im thinking of you
Blue to be blue
To be blue
Ocean blue
Blue to be blue
To be blue
Ocean blue - ocean blue
Blue to be blue
To be blue
Ocean blue, ocean blue
Ocean blue, ocean blue
Ocean blue, ocean blue
Ocean blue, ocean ocean
Ocean, ocean
Blue to be blue
To be blue
Ocean blue
Blue to be blue
To be blue
Ocean blue - ocean blue
I stand at the head of the queue
Theres mutinys every crew
Wishin and wonderin bout you
Ocean blue

The Skylark
The rolls and harrows lie at rest beside
The battered road; and spreading far and wide
Above the russet clods, the corn is seen
Sprouting its spiry points of tender green,
Where squats the hare, to terrors wide awake,
Like some brown clod the harrows failed to break.
Opening their golden caskets to the sun,
The buttercups make schoolboys eager run,
To see who shall be first to pluck the prize -
Up from their hurry, see, the skylark flies,
And o'er her half-formed nest, with happy wings
Winnows the air, till in the cloud she sings,
Then hangs a dust-spot in the sunny skies,
And drops, and drops, till in her nest she lies,
Which they unheeded passed - not dreaming then
That birds which flew so high would drop agen
To nests upon the ground, which anything
May come at to destroy. Had they the wing
Like such a bird, themselves would be too proud,
And build on nothing but a passing cloud!
As free from danger as the heavens are free
From pain and toil, there would they build and be,
And sail about the world to scenes unheard
Of and unseen - Oh, were they but a bird!
So think they, while they listen to its song,
And smile and fancy and so pass along;
While its low nest, moist with the dews of morn,
Lies safely, with the leveret, in the corn.

To A Young Girl With An Album
Gentle Lily with this Album my warmest wishes take,
I know its pages oft thou’lt ope and prize it for my sake,
For, though a trifling offering, it bears the magic spell
Of coming from the hand of one who loves thee passing well.
O could thy young life’s course be traced by will or wish of mine,
A smiling, joyous future—a bright lot would be thine,
No cloud should mar the gladness of thy fair youth’s op’ning morn,
The roses of thy girlhood should be free from blight or thorn.
Howe’er, ’tis better ordered by a Blessed Power above
Who sends us cross and trial, as a token of His Love;
For we’d cling, ah! far too closely to earthly joys and ties,
Unwilling e’er to leave them for our home beyond the skies.
As the pages of this volume, unwritten, stainless, fair,
Life opens out before thee, let it be thine aim and care
To keep the record spotless, and ever free from all
That thou might’st wish hereafter remorseful to recall.
Not seeking to o’ershadow thy smiling azure eyes,
Nor see that girlish bosom heave with sad thoughts and sighs,
I would whisper low, while wishing thee, all earthly, cloudless bliss,
Be life a preparation for a better life than this!

Blue Depths Of Your Eyes
Some blue eyes trap me in their depths,
Some blue eyes shine as crystals in darkness,
As i gaze at them fascinated and charmed,
I am melting in the blue depths of your eyes.
And when your eyes burst into tears,
I am seeing the ocean in them,
I am feeling like a boat that sails without veils,
As if i have lost my compass and spinning into the abyss.
I stare at those gorgeous blue eyes and cannot stop,
I fall to their power like i am hypnotized,
Radiating beauty and wisdom from their depths,
I feel trapped and happy in the blue depth of your eyes.

Sweet Reprieve Rose
Oh the smell of the sweet reprieve rose
That was thrown on the battle field for my soul
The inevitable mortal wound waits for me on yonder hill
As the dawn breaks on the time transcribed for me
Oh the smell of the sweet reprieve rose
Oh the smell of the sweet reprieve rose
When he was first enclosed
For three dark days and three lonely nights
Until he returned unto the light
Oh the smell of the sweet reprieve rose
Oh the smell of the sweet reprieve rose
When we are first enclosed
Waiting for his trumpet to blow
And for all of his people to be called home
Oh the smell of the sweet reprieve rose

Everyone Is Growing Older
Between warring Countries hostilities do not last
And 'tis true your friend of tomorrow may be your foe of the past
But life goes on as usual that's how it seems to be
And we make friends with the old foe to fight our new common enemy
And everyone grows older but few grow wise and gray
For we still glorify the folly of war in the World of today
And we find things in common when we have a common foe
But as we do grow older few of us do wiser grow,
We celebrate war heroes to die in war is not seen as a sin
And when one war it is over another war begin
To use the name of God in war seems hypocritical that would seem fair to say
And to Moses fifth commandment respect we never pay
Crimes of hate and xenophobia sad to say are on the rise
And everyone is growing older but so few are growing wise.

Fly
Set yourself on a movie screen
play any part or be anything
know what i mean
its all about right its all
its all about wrong
about you and me and how to get along
ya gotta wake up
work hard and take a deep breath
open your heart and never forget
ya gotta fly
break the chains that bind you to the ground and try
to let it go be happy with what you found
fly mend your broken wing so you can take flight
and if you wanna go I'll go there with ya tonight
ya gotta fly
break the chains that bind you to the ground and try
to let it go be happy with what you found
fly mend your broken wing so you can take flight
and if you wanna go I'll go there with ya tonight
ya gotta fly yah just FLY!
i remember walkin down rodeo drive
when i was younger
i used to push the limits of life
but when i grew somthing changed inside
i saw the color of money take over so many lives
i know alot of us would like to believe
but theres too many of us thats parted by prejudice
when you look in the mirror who do you see
is it somebody else
or who you really wanna be
ya gotta fly
break the chains that bind you to the ground and try
to let it go be happy with what you found
fly mend your broken wing so you can take flight
and if you wanna go I'll go there with ya tonight
ya gotta fly
break the chains that bind you to the ground and try
to let it go be happy with what you found
fly mend your broken wing so you can take flight
and if you wanna go I'll go there with ya tonight
ya gotta fly yah just FLY!
not always easy livin in a world of pain
got me running into brickwalls again and again
ya say you need a break and a change from this life
ya gotta fly
break the chains that bind you to the ground and try
to let it go be happy with what you found
fly mend your broken wing so you can take flight
and if you wanna go I'll go there with ya tonight
ya gotta fly yah just FLY!

Needle & Thread
Sometimes you wonder
What's wrong with my mind
You try to find it
But theirs nothing to find
Whoa, you'll never know
I keep on falling
But I don't hit the floor
You say there's something
But you're looking for more
Whoa, you'll never know
I wouldn't do you wrong over again
Here's the needle and thread
To mend your broken heart
The words you're screaming
Echo in my head
You're feeling blue
And you're seeing red
Whoa, you'll never know
In trying hard
To think of something to say
To make it better
But you push me away
Whoa, you'll never know
Whoa, you'll never know
Here's the needle and thread
To mend your broken heart
It don't take much to break you
You don't need this to make you

Cloud 8
(tony martin/byron hill)
I hear em laughing on cloud 9
In a world so happy just above mine
No ones leaving like you left me
They got each other got all they need, but
Here on cloud 8
A lotta nothings going on
Im just drifting day to day
Out here on my own
While up on cloud 9
I hear em party all the time
They dont hear my heart break
Down here on cloud 8
We almost made it up where they are
But losing your love
Brought me down hard
Now Im just hanging, just getting by
Where expectations arent that high, but
Here on cloud 8
A lotta nothings going on
Im just drifting day to day
Out here on my own
While up on cloud 9
I hear em party all the time
They dont hear my heart break
Down here on cloud 8
While up on cloud 9
I hear em party all the time
They dont hear my heart break
Down here on cloud 8
They dont hear my heart break
Down here on cloud 8

Blue Skies
Blue skies, smilin at me
Nothin but blues skies do I see
Bluebirds singin a song
Theres nothin but bluebirds all day long
Seems like all the days are hurryin by
When youre in love, my how they fly
Those blue days, all of them gone
Nothin but blue skies from now on
(instrumental break)
Seems like all them days are hurryin by
Cause when youre in love, then my how they fly
Them blue days, all of em gone
And theres nothin but blue skies from now on

Folly
(For A. K. K.)
What distant mountains thrill and glow
Beneath our Lady Folly's tread?
Why has she left us, wise in woe,
Shrewd, practical, uncomforted?
We cannot love or dream or sing,
We are too cynical to pray,
There is no joy in anything
Since Lady Folly went away.
Many a knight and gentle maid,
Whose glory shines from years gone by,
Through ignorance was unafraid
And as a fool knew how to die.
Saint Folly rode beside Jehanne
And broke the ranks of Hell with her,
And Folly's smile shone brightly on
Christ's plaything, Brother Juniper.
Our minds are troubled and defiled
By study in a weary school.
O for the folly of the child!
The ready courage of the fool!
Lord, crush our knowledge utterly
And make us humble, simple men;
And cleansed of wisdom, let us see
Our Lady Folly's face again.

Sonnet XII: The Lovers' Walk
Sweet twining hedgeflowers wind-stirred in no wise
On this June day; and hand that clings in hand:—
Still glades; and meeting faces scarcely fann'd:—
An osier-odoured stream that draws the skies
Deep to its heart; and mirrored eyes in eyes:—
Fresh hourly wonder o'er the Summer land
Of light and cloud; and two souls softly spann'd
With one o'erarching heaven of smiles and sighs:—
Even such their path, whose bodies lean unto
Each other's visible sweetness amorously,—
Whose passionate hearts lean by Love's high decree
Together on his heart for ever true,
As the cloud-foaming firmamental blue
Rests on the blue line of a foamless sea.

Fair weather - You are here
Fair weather
No cloud
You are here.
You the hill
Look blue
Though near.
You are better
And always in time
Ever after.
I called you
And you make
Your presence here.

Blue Skies
I was blue, just as blue as I could be
Evry day was a cloudy day for me
Then good luck came a-knocking at my door
Skies were gray but theyre not gray anymore
Blue skies
Smiling at me
Nothing but blue skies
Do I see
Bluebirds
Singing a song
Nothing but bluebirds
All day long
Never saw the sun shining so bright
Never saw things going so right
Noticing the days hurrying by
When youre in love, my how they fly
Blue days
All of them gone
Nothing but blue skies
From now on
[2]
I should care if the wind blows east or west
I should fret if the worst looks like the best
I should mind if they say it cant be true
I should smile, thats exactly what I do

Empty 2
Life is just an empty shell
where my existence life
waits for each tomorrow
as the day of redemption.
I walk in long shadows
of past procurements folly
within the bars
of my own making.
Across the barren
and deserted wasteland
of empty dreams
and cloud laden skies.
Where everywhere I walk,
empty bowls surround me.
