The Mother [For Madeleine]

One heartbeat that is yours and mine
You visit my dreams and whisper 'I'm fine'
Our kisses touch on gentle breeze
Your inner light, while on my knees
warms my hopes before they freeze.
Two souls refuse to say goodbye
Time and distance may ask why.
In lonely night together we lay
Yet tomorrow's dawn takes you away.
Years die, unmeasured miles tease our respite
But you are as the sun that burns so bright.
I feel your eyes, I touch your hand
My faith still flies in wintry weather
Darling hug your pillow, but understand

The big hand makes all of your favorite things
Like all your dreams go small
And all your friends run away
Until your memories fall
And the words don't fit

You just won't care about it

Somnambulistic Sonnet

How strange, when sleep is scarce the dreams increase
with amplified intensity and strength
behind eyes bravely batting at the crease
we fill that space regardless of the length

Forgetting, when fatigue brings in the dawn
our memories and prophecies combine
to conjure up somnambulistic spawn
and motherlodes within the mental mine

The vividness of visions in such states
embeds them in our minds throughout the day
And so we banish logic, which dictates
sleep deprivation's target is dismay
Lest we confuse reality with dreams
can we be sure that all is as it seems?

Youth And Manhood

Another year! a short one, if it flow
Like that just past,
And I shall stand -- if years can make me so --
A man at last.

Yet, while the hours permit me, I would pause
And contemplate
The lot whereto unalterable laws
Have bound my fate.

Yet, from the starry regions of my youth,
The empyreal height
Where dreams are happiness, and feeling truth,
And life delight --

From that ethereal and serene abode
My soul would gaze
Downward upon the wide and winding road,
Where manhood plays;

Plays with the baubles and the gauds of earth --
Wealth, power, and fame --
Nor knows that in the twelvemonth after birth
He did the same.

Where the descent begins, through long defiles
I see them wind;
And some are looking down with hopeful smiles,
And some are -- blind.

And farther on a gay and glorious green
Dazzles the sight,
While noble forms are moving o'er the scene,
Like things of light.

Towers, temples, domes of perfect symmetry
Rise broad and high,
With pinnacles among the clouds; ah, me!
None touch the sky.

None pierce the pure and lofty atmosphere
Which I breathe now,
And the strong spirits that inhabit there,
Live -- God sees how.

Sick of the very treasure which they heap;
Their tearless eyes
Sealed ever in a heaven-forgetting sleep,
Whose dreams are lies;

And so, a motley, unattractive throng,
They toil and plod,
Dead to the holy ecstasies of song,
To love, and God.

The Learning Curve

I reach with my eyes
The light curve and the variations in light intensity
From eclipsing binary stars.
The time becomes a phase
I touch with my soul
The curve of love between me and you
Ephemerally being, I still believe in eternal.
I carry the new life.
The curve of love, like a painful river
Between death and life
I can swim in its water of faith and piety
To reach the understanding.
We are getting old
And all we can do
Is to deep-freeze our memories.
We learn to love.
Catholic and Orthodox,
Pentecostals and Baptists,
We learn that only love can change our souls,
We learn to become eternal.
I reach the curve of rainbow with my eyes,
When the water droplets after the rain
Sent out colors at different angles.
The water droplets are prisms, my eyes are prisms.
I understand why God made a promise
To the people
That 'never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.'
Making the rainbow the sign of His covenant.
And we ought to do the same thing-to make promises to God.
Between the light curve decomposed into rainbow colors
And the mobile marine blue curve of the horizon,
God's tears
Falls to earth for our life.
I let the soul to soar to the High
And I remove the sin blocks that keep me stuck.
I understand the primordial sin.
I know that we are descendents
Of Adam and Eve,
But we are also
God's sons and daughters.
I understand the learning curve.

Down to Earth

Expectations,
As expectations go...
Seem only to achieve,
A certain level of acceptance.

And to appease those with ambitions...
To be down to Earth without attempts,
To pollinate wishes and dreams...
Often considered out of reach and unobtainable.
May those who are believed to be out of touch...
By a seeking to break down walls of limitations,
One day be welcomed from their flights of 'fancy'...
In the sharing with others,
That the world is, indeed, round.
And not flat!
With those living in other places,
Experiencing the many cultures and races...
With an acknowledgement of that fact!

Words are just words that may blow on the wind
Touch is just touch that can hurt like a dart
Love is just madness that may bind or divide
Magic is my love for everything about you.

Need is just need that can be selfish and crass
Lust is just want that can often cause pain

Insanity, just a word used to sum up
All the things they've heard
All my deeds, all the blood, all the drugs
What i did to those pretty little girls
Pieces that were missing in the puzzle i created
Children in the streets
Lying decapitated
Inviscerated, with their tongues cut out
"What demon could do this?"
