Elsa Wertman
I was a peasant girl from Germany,
Blue-eyed, rosy, happy and strong.
And the first place I worked was at Thomas Greene's.
On a summer's day when she was away
He stole into the kitchen and took me
Right in his arms and kissed me on my throat,
I turning my head. Then neither of us
Seemed to know what happened.
And I cried for what would become of me.
And cried and cried as my secret began to show.
One day Mrs. Greene said she understood,
And would make no trouble for me,
And, being childless, would adopt it.
(He had given her a farm to be still. )
So she hid in the house and sent out rumors,
As if it were going to happen to her.
And all went well and the child was born -- They were so kind to me.
Later I married Gus Wertman, and years passed.
But -- at political rallies when sitters-by thought I was crying
At the eloquence of Hamilton Greene --
That was not it.
No! I wanted to say:
That's my son!
That's my son!

When I Was Young I Cried
When I was young I cried when I was sad, when I was young I cried when I was happy, when I was young I cried when I wanted something, when I was young I cried when I was lonely, when I was young I cried when I had to say goodbye, when I was young I cried when my feelings were hurt, when I was young I cried when I wasn't accepted, when I was young I cried when I was mocked, when I was young I cried for attention, when I was young I cried when I was scared, when I was young I cried when I hurt others, when I was young I cried when I felt physical pain, when I was young I cried when I was jealous, when I was young I cried when I lost someone or when I was lost somewhere, when I was young I cried when I didn't know, and now as an adult I cry because I understand.

Why At All I Came To This Earth
Why at all I came to this earth
It must be two years now
Since I am with you all
I really could not make out
How far my parents were happy
On my arrival
I knew I did not get many things
Which I wanted, rather needed
For a total growth
And emotional support
I started noting that
My parents did not like each other
Often they argued on matters
Which were beyond my perception
They too were running short
Of many things, probably
I have two elder sisters
From their talking
I came to know that
Our family was in great trouble
One evening my mom took me from home
And for the first time
We were travelling in a vehicle
Rushing us to a new place
My mom left me with some one
And that some one handed over me
To some other one
Thus I kept on moving from hands to hands
Leaving me to wonder
Where this changing hands will stop
I was a bit comfortable with the
Little girl, the last lap,
Who really attended to my needs
Better than even what my mom did
But some where some thing happened
I started feeling pain on my head
Which persisted and kept on increasing
I could not talk about this
But, cried, cried and cried
The little girl attempted to comfort me
But, it did not relieve my pain
The girl became angry with me
And started beating me
I could not register what went on further
I was in a new environment
Definitely much cleaner and better
Than any of the places I lived so far
All in white
People were attending to me
And giving me what all
They feel I needed
But, here I could not move
All the time in bed
I used to think how nice it will be
If I could spend all my time like this
Things did not happen that way, though
As I could see myself from the above
All these people in white
Keeping busy around me in the bed
I tried to tell them
See, here up, I am very much here
I know, this is death
As my elder sisters told me
You will go up and up
To God's caring hands
Once you die
I am going to Him is what
I understood
But then, tell me
Why at all I came to this earth

The Ghost Of Reverand Greene
Spit on my grave if it makes you feel better baby,
Curse my name to the heavens above and maybe,
Ill throw you down a ladder in the shape of a streak of lightning,
I may have been snuffed out, its so frightening ,
You havent seen nothing until youve seen -
The ghost of reverend greene.
You can tell your storys to worthless magazines,
Sell yourself up the river in black limousines,
But dont crawling to me on hands and knees,
Id like to kick you in the teeth,
But Im 6 foot underneath,
You havent seen nothing until youve seen -
The ghost of reverend greene.
Id always thought we had something special between us,
Something special that now seems so hollow,
So Ill leave out the bedroom ceiling,
And retire to the attic to whence my life hath no meaning,
Here lies the ghost of reverend greene.
Throw your fist into the air if you have to,
Wear garlic necklaces maybe that would suit you,
You drove me out to the point of no return
With your uncanny wicked ways and for this you must in turn,
Your not getting of lightly,
Not until youve seen the ghost of reverend greene.
Honey you may have gotten away with murder,
And I may have lost you to another,
But Im back
The ghost of reverend greene.
Ooooo, ooooo
The ghost of reverend greene.

Willow, Willow, Willow
A poore soule sat sighing under a sicamore tree;
O willow, willow, willow!
With his hand on his bosom, his head on his knee:
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow shall be my garland.
He sigh'd in his singing, and after each grone,
Come willow, willow, willow!
Come willow, willow, willow!
'I am dead to all pleasure, my true-love is gone.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow shall be may garland.
'My love she is turned; untrue she doth prove;
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
She renders me nothing but hate for my love.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the grene willow, &c.
'O pitty me' (cried he), 'ye lovers each one;
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Her heart's hard as marble; she rues not my mone.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.'
The cold streams ran by him, his eyes wept apace;
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
The salt tears fell from him, which drowned his face.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
The mute birds sate by him, made tame by his mones;
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
The salt tears fell from him, which softened the stones.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow shall be my garland!
'Let nobody blame me, her scornes I do prove;
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
She was borne to be faire; I, to die for her love.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'O that beauty should harbour a heart that's so hard!
Sing willow, willow, willow!
Sing willow, willow, willow!
My true love rejecting without all regard.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'Let love no more boast him in palace or bower;
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
For women are trothles, and flote in an houre.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'But what helps complaining? In vaine I complaine:
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
I must patiently suffer her scorne and disdaine.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'Come, all you forsaken, and sit down by me,
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
He that 'plaines of his false love, mine's falser than she.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'The willow wreath weare I, since my love did fleet;
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
A garland for lovers forsaken most meete.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow shall be my garland!'
Part the Second
'Lowe lay'd by my sorrow, begot by disdaine,
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Against her too cruell, still, still I complaine.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow shall be my garland!
'O love too injurious, to wound my poore heart,
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
To suffer the triumph, and joy in my smart!
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'O willow, willow, willow! the willow garland,
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
A sign of her falsenesse before me doth stand.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow shall be my garland.
'As here it doth bid to despair and to dye,
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
So hang it, friends, ore me in grave where I lye.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'In grave where I rest mee, hang this to the view,
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Of all that doe knowe her, to blaze her untrue.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'With these words engraven, as epitaph meet,
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
'Here lyes one, drank poyson for potion most sweet.'
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'Though she thus unkindly hath scorned my love,
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
And carelessly smiles at the sorrowes I prove;
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'I cannot against her unkindly exclaim,
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Cause once well I loved her, and honoured her name.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow shall be my garland.
'The name of her sounded so sweete in mine eare,
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
It rays'd my heart lightly, the name of my deare;
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'As then 'twas my comfort, it now is my griefe;
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
It now brings me anguish; then brought me reliefe.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow, &c.
'Farewell, faire false-hearted, plaints end with my breath!
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Thou dost loath me, I love thee, though cause of my death.
O willow, willow, willow!
O willow, willow, willow!
Sing, O the greene willow shall be my garland.'

The Madman - His Parables and Poems
You ask me how I became a madman. It happened thus: One day, long
before many gods were born, I woke from a deep sleep and found all
my masks were stolen,--the seven masks I have fashioned an worn in
seven lives,--I ran maskless through the crowded streets shouting,
'Thieves, thieves, the cursed thieves.'
Men and women laughed at me and some ran to their houses in fear
of me.
And when I reached the market place, a youth standing on a house-top
cried, 'He is a madman.' I looked up to behold him; the sun kissed
my own naked face for the first time. For the first time the sun
kissed my own naked face and my soul was inflamed with love for
the sun, and I wanted my masks no more. And as if in a trance I
cried, 'Blessed, blessed are the thieves who stole my masks.'
Thus I became a madman.
And I have found both freedom of loneliness and the safety from
being understood, for those who understand us enslave something in
us.
But let me not be too proud of my safety. Even a Thief in a jail
is safe from another thief.

Then She Kissed Me
Well, she walked up to me
And she asked me if I wanted to dance
She looked kind of nice
And so I said I might take a chance
When we danced she held me tight
And when I walked her home that night
All the stars were shinin bright
And then she kissed me
Each time I saw her I couldnt wait to see her again
I wanted to let her know that she was more than a friend
I didnt know just what to do, so I whispered I love you
She said that she loved me too and then she kissed me
She kissed me in a way that Id never been kissed before
She kissed me in a way that I want to be kissed forever more
I knew that she was mine, so I gave her all the lovin I had
And one day she took me home to meet her ma and her dad
Then I asked her to be my bride and always be right by my side
Felt so happy, she almost cried and then she kissed me
Then I asked her to be my bride and always be right by my side
Felt so happy, she almost cried and then she kissed me
And then she kissed me
And then she kissed me

we stood beneath the moon so bright
and she kissed me

Run with me and I'll make you my bride
She was so happy that she almost cried
Then I pulled her by my side
and she kissed me
whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa
She walked up to me and asked me if I wanted to dance
She looked kinda fine so thought that I just might take that chance
I said run with me and I'll make you my bride

We Cry
The 10th of June, passing of our Son
We Cried
9mins holding him tight, words not spoken
We cried
Time of Death given,8pm
We Cried
Just 7 doors down from home, is all we keep saying
We Cried
6 Drunken teens, drove down our son that night
We Cried
The Fifth Commandment, thou shall not kill
We Cried
Four days later, our son lays beneath the earth
We Cried
The Driver receives 3yrs, is that my sons worth
We Cried
Two years good behavior, he walks the streets
We Cried
We only had One son his name was Micheal, our son
We Cry
It shouldn't have been his NUMBER calling
Still here we Cry

Too Many Nights
(nick martinelli/a.brown/b.wayy)
Too many nights
Too many tears
Too many years
Too many nights Ive waited around for you
As the nights turn into weeks, I couldnt even sleep
Too many tears Ive cried but now Im through
Im ready to dry my eyes again, this time I wont pretend
I thought that I could make it on my own
And the thought of starting over again
Scared me into staying here with you
Long after all the heartache began
Im through with waiting in an empty bed
One for dinner when it should be two
Im tired of holding back what should be said
Im gonna let it go and stand up to you
Hey, too many nights Ive waited around for you
As the nights turn into weeks, I couldnt even sleep
Too many tears Ive cried but now Im through
Im ready to dry my eyes again, this time I wont pretend
My pride was swallowed one too many times
Ive kept on turning my back on the truth
Now Im as serious as a heart attack
coz Ive decided baby, were through
Im growing stronger from experience
The woman in mes taking a stand
You taught me good, I learned my lesson well
And Im never gonna let it happen again, no
Too many nights Ive waited around for you
As the nights turn into weeks, I couldnt even sleep
Too many tears Ive cried but now Im through
Im ready to dry my eyes again, this time I wont pretend
Im gonna turn the page
Put heartache in the past
I gotta think about getting strong
And Ill put all those memories on the shelf
And make the space for someone else
(too many nights Ive waited around for you)
Too many nights
(too many nights)
Too many nights
Hey, too many tears Ive cried but now Im through
(Im through)
Im ready to dry my eyes again, this time I wont pretend
Too many nights Ive waited around for you
Ive waited around for you
As the nights turn into weeks, I couldnt even sleep
Too many tears Ive cried but now Im through
I cried, cried, cried
Too many nights
Too many tears
Too many years

Summer Fun
Scorched and parched from the summer heat,
An airily, air conditioned place sounds so sweet.
Going on vacation from all of these stressful days,
A resort with swimming pools, Jacuzzis and buffets.
As I lay under the arid summer sun,
Relaxing and errantly having fun.
As I espy the summer flowers bloom,
Listening to my favorite tune.
Sitting here with a drink and my radio,
I could get a bad sun burn, I know.
My sunscreen will block the UV rays of the hot sun,
Going to lay out by the pool and have a lot of fun.
Clear blue skies and fresh clean air,
Not any worries nor one single care.
Swimming and playing, having a great time,
kicking back and relaxing is my favorite pastime.

Mom, When I Cried
Early morning, you make my bread,
The same with love to me you fed,
But when I cried to eat you said,
When I am with you don't need to be sad.
While walking to school, I was always red,
I would nag for you to carry me to the end,
But when I cried to walk you said,
When I am with you don't need to be sad.
From school when I come back,
With home works in my big pack,
I cried to do them, but you said,
When I am with you don't need to be sad.
At night, you put me in bed
My manners with stories you mend
But when I cried to sleep, you said
I am with you don't need to be sad.
Now all day long in loss I cry
Will you come, or at least give it a try?
But when I cried myself to sleep, in my dream you said
My child, you don't need to be sad.

Beauty To Disaster
I cried the night you left me
I never cried so hard
I never felt so helpless
Except the night that we made love
From beauty to disaster
I held you in my arms
Long enough to reach around you
To keep my fingers warm
Through egos, bars, and pills
You kept me in my place
You saved me from this spotlight
Well I guess Im living in disgrace
From beauty to disaster
I held you in my arms
Long enough to reach around you
To keep my fingers warm
I wonder how is california
Is it the blonde-haired blue-eyed life
Is it okay for me to ask you
Do you have a husband or a wife
From beauty to disaster
I never cried so hard
I never felt so helpless
I cried with all my might

Missing My Friend
You weren’t supposed to leave that way
So smart
So caring
So uniquely you
And you were supposed to be here longer
The four of us: physically inseparable for three years
But hearts and minds were connected for much longer
Indian summers of us in the grass after running from old ladies,
Dreamed up in your head but never fulfilled
Big dreams, big thoughts, big heart
An even bigger sadness
I want you to be here
Reading this
So that its not about you so that maybe I wouldn’t be so mad
And I never admitted it;
Cried when I heard the news,
Cried when I told our friends,
Cried even harder at the memorial service
But I never acknowledged the anger
Im mad at you for leaving like this
Im mad that for making me cry this much
Mad at myself for not calling
We were supposed to grow old still connected
In rocking chair reminiscing about Cle-otis
But your gone
And bringing the 3 back together would only
Invoke thoughts, works, stories, conversations of you
Tears would follow
I don’t want to miss you
I want to pick up the phone and scream a quote in your ear
And be mockingly amazed when u know who it’s by
I want to run into you at the mall and laugh for what seems like forever
Of times from eternity past
I don’t want to be crying these tears,
Tears that hold my sorrow of trying to lay your memory to rest;
But I am
I don’t want this to end sappy or with some inside joke which makes me remember
That I can’t go back to the past when you were still here
But it has to
For a long time you were my smile when I couldn’t find my own
We laughed, we cried, we sang, we screamed, we danced (or tried to)
We liked, we loved, we hated, we marched to our own beat
You’re the reason im comfortable in my own skin
May you rest in peace,
My friend, One of those important corners in my old square,

Misery n
Ive been misery n,
Ever since my daddy gone, yeah.
Ive been, honey, Ive been misery n, yes I have, now.
Ever since my, since my daddy gone, gone, gone.
But I believe that it wont,
Baby, it wont be too long,
If I just could hang on,
Yeah, until my, till my misery
Will all be gone.
Whoa, I said my rooms, you know,
Theyre so empty, empty, empty, empty, empty.
Filled up with sadness, sometimes, yeah.
My rooms are so empty, empty, empty, empty.
Child, filled up with sadness, honey, sometimes, sometimes.
Oh well it just, it just moves in,
Like the fog rolls in.
And I find i, well I cant see you, baby,
For my tears.
But Ive tried.
Dont you know Ive tried.
Cried, cried, cried, cried, cried.
Baby now, Ive been missin you.
Oh, Ive been missin you, babe!
Yeah, and it all seems to bother me
Much more that it seems it should be.
So, baby, now, now,
Baby, now, now,
Baby, tell me why,
Does it have to be
Oh, so wrong for me ?
I never thought I could ever want anybody,
No, no, no, never did, I never did.
Why am I feelin so strange ? ? ?
Whoaaaaa, I never, never, never needed nobody, no, no,
But maybe you could help me
Why am I feelin so strange ?
Yeah, an Ive got me a great,
An Ive got a great big bed
With two pillows for my head.
Hey, but lately I been sleepin, sleepin alone.
But Ive tried,
Dont you know Ive tried.
Cried, cried,
You know how Ive cried.
An, an baby, Ive been missin you.
Tried,
Dont you know Ive tried.
Cried,
Cried, cried, cried, cried,
Baby now, Ive been missin you.
Tried,
Dont you know Ive tried.
Cried, cried,
You know how Ive cried.
An, an baby, Ive been missin you,
Yeah ...

The family that used to be
The family the used to be
There was once a happy family
Everything seem to be going right
Everybody was happy
There was no arguments or no fights
My mom and dad loved each other
Well at least I thought so
But after 2 years or so
All the love seemed to go
And disappear into the night
They began to argue
They began to fight
This hurted me inside
At night I cried
I hated for the family to fall apart
This truly broke my heart
When my father left the house
I didn’t care anymore
I wanted the family to be happy and full of love
But like my father that all went out the door
My heart felt so soar
I couldn’t love anymore
So I began to not care
Doing things I wouldn’t dare do
ONLY IF MY FATHER WAS HERE
My mom worries about me and wonder why I act this way
I never told her why
I just simply reply I’ll be ok
No one understands me
No one feels the pain I feel
When I think about how my family used to be
And how it is today
So a family the once used to be a family 3
Is now a family of 2
The house is quiet boring and blue
It’s not the same with out my dad here
But I can’t do nothing but cry (tear)
Signed a hurt child

The Night I Cried
The night i cried
You weren't anymore there
Tears were heavy
No one asked me to share.
The night i cried
I cried whole night
Thinking of u my love
tears didn't stop a while.
The night i cried
I didn't want to cry
But i cried all night
still didn't know why.
The night i cried
I didn't wipe out my tears
I let them flow away
With the pain i preserved for years.
The night i cried
I silently sang something
That made me miss you more
Even more than i ever did.
The night i cried
My eyes couldn't sleep
My mind was going on asking me
Why i went so deep....

Tell Me Why
Well I gave you everything I had
But you left me sittin here all alone
Did you have to treat me so bad
All I do girl, is hang my head and moan
Tell me why you cry, and why you lied to me
Tell me why you cried baby
Tell me why you cried, and why you lied to me
If its somethin that I might have said
Just tell me girl, and Ill apologize
If you dont I really cant go on
Holdin back the tears, holdin back the tears from my eyes
Tell me why you cried, and why you lied to me
Tell me why you cried, baby
Just tell me whyd you cry, and whyd you lie to me
Well I beg you on my bended knees
Baby please please, listen to what I say
If theres anything that I could do
Just tell me girl, cause Im so in love with you
Tell me why you cried, and why you lied to me
Tell me why you cried, baby
Just tell me whyd you cry, and whyd you lie to me

The Witch at Arbor Low
Annie Trembles had met the witch
As she sat at Arbor Low,
Her tears were thick and her heart was sick,
She had no place to go,
She'd sought the old Stone Circle out,
And thought to divine the lore
Of the old Brigantes with their Druid chants;
Then she met Susannah Straw.
Susannah Straw was a wily witch
Who lived by her wits, and spells,
She kept the faith of her pagan race
Designing and dressing wells.
She'd conjure the odd love potion,
And she'd make the kine run dry,
If a body was too outspoken
She would give them the evil eye!
Annie had been heartbroken when
She heard that the blacksmith, Tom,
Announced he was marrying Rachel Greene,
The girl from the Nether Farm,
She'd worshipped Tom from a distance
Since he'd kissed her, under the tree,
But that was back in a Christmastime,
And she'd thought: ‘He doesn't love me! '
She opened her heart to Susannah Straw
By the stones of Arbor Low,
With a flood of tears she unburdened years
Of a passion that hurt her so,
The witch had gathered the mandrake root
Some orange to make it sweet,
The heart of a dove, some powdered blood
And a smidgin of ambergris!
‘You need to feed him the potion soon,
Two days is all it will keep,
Then once he's fed it will turn his head,
It will make his Rachel weep! '
So Annie went to the Inn that night
And tipped it into his jar,
And Tom had quaffed in a single draught
Then fallen over the bar!
He'd worked at the forge that Saturday,
But felt so queer in his head,
He pumped away at the bellows ‘til
The coals were glowing red,
Then Rachel called for a sweet caress
From the lips of her dear betrothed,
But Tom recoiled as his lips were soiled
By the woman he suddenly loathed!
His hammer lay on the anvil there,
He seized, and he raised it high,
Then split the head of the girl he'd said
Was to be his beautiful bride,
She lay on the floor, unmoving
So he hid her, under the hay,
Then tucked the hammer beneath his belt,
And some rope for the come-what-may!
His steps soon led him to Arbor Low
By the time that the sun was high,
And Annie Trembles looked up to smile:
‘My Tom! Oh my, Oh my! '
But Tom was surfacing out of his trance
And he seized poor Ann by the hair,
Then cried as he brought the hammer down:
‘I am lost in the pit of despair! '
He turned to the gibbering Arbor Witch,
And dragged her over the hill,
Then hung her high on the nearest tree
As she kicked, and squirmed, and squealed.
Once back at the forge, he cut his throat
And lay by his lost love's side,
Where his blood was wedded to hers at last,
The groom, and his cold, dead bride!

They Used Up All My Tears
They used up all my tears
I cried for the mother that left me
I cried for the man who took her away
I cried for the brothers I couldn’t see
I cried for the family that abandoned me
I cried for the people that hurt me
I cried for those that were supposed to protect me
I cried for the family I lost
I cried for the family I needed
But when I went to cry those tears of happiness
There was nothing left
The tears had all gone
