Little Tim's Revenge

"Little Tim " was the name of him
Of whom I have to tell;
And he abode on the Western road,
In the busy town of L--.
As trains went down through the little town,
He peddled through the cars
His stock in trade, — iced lemonade,
Cake, peanuts, and cigars.
Conductor Dunn was the only one
Who'd not this trade allow;
And so 'twixt him and little Tim
There always was a row.
At last one day they had a fray;
And Timothy declared
He'd "fix old Dunn, 'as sure's a gun,'"
If both their lives were spared.
So off he went with this intent,
And sold his stock in trade:
His earnings hard he spent for lard,
And started for "the grade."
(This place, you know, is where trains go
Upon the steep hillside,
And where — with lard — it isn't hard
To get up quite a slide.)
He took a stick, and spread it thick,
Remarking with a smile,
"There'll be some fun when Mr. Dunn
Commences to 'strike ile'!"
He lay in wait: the train was late,
And came a-puffing hard,
With heavy load, right up the road
To where he'd spread the lard.
They tried in vain: that fated train
Could not ascend the grade:
The wheels would spin with horrid din
Yet no advance was made.
Then little Tim — 'twas bold in him —
Cried out in accents shrill,
"Remember me, Conductor D.,
When you get up the hill!"

MORAL.
Success in trade is up a grade
That we should all ascend,
And with a will help up the hill
Our fellow-man and friend.
When "on the road," don't incommode
The seeker after pelf,
Or ten to one, like Mr. Dunn,
You'll not get up yourself.

Jack Dunn of Nevertire

It chanced upon the very day we'd got the shearing done,
A buggy brought a stranger to the West-o'-Sunday Run;
He had a round and jolly face, and he was sleek and stout,
He drove right up between the huts and called the super out.
We chaps were smoking after tea, and heard the swell enquire
For one as travelled by the name of `Dunn of Nevertire'.
Jack Dunn of Nevertire,
Poor Dunn of Nevertire;
There wasn't one of us but knew Jack Dunn of Nevertire.

`Jack Dunn of Nevertire,' he said; `I was a mate of his;
And now it's twenty years since I set eyes upon his phiz.
There is no whiter man than Jack -- no straighter south the line,
There is no hand in all the land I'd sooner grip in mine;
To help a mate in trouble Jack would go through flood and fire.
Great Scott! and don't you know the name of Dunn of Nevertire?
Big Dunn of Nevertire,
Long Jack from Nevertire;
He stuck to me through thick and thin, Jack Dunn of Nevertire.

`I did a wild and foolish thing while Jack and I were mates,
And I disgraced my guv'nor's name, an' wished to try the States.
My lamps were turned to Yankee Land, for I'd some people there,
And I was right when someone sent the money for my fare;
I thought 'twas Dad until I took the trouble to enquire,
And found that he who sent the stuff was Dunn of Nevertire,
Jack Dunn of Nevertire,
Soft Dunn of Nevertire;
He'd won some money on a race -- Jack Dunn of Nevertire.

`Now I've returned, by Liverpool, a swell of Yankee brand,
To reckon, guess, and kalkilate, 'n' wake my native land;
There is no better land, I swear, in all the wide world round --
I smelt the bush a month before we touched King George's Sound!
And now I've come to settle down, the top of my desire
Is just to meet a mate o' mine called `Dunn of Nevertire'.
Was raised at Nevertire --
The town of Nevertire;
He humped his bluey by the name of `Dunn of Nevertire'.

`I've heard he's poor, and if he is, a proud old fool is he;
But, spite of that, I'll find a way to fix the old gum-tree.
I've bought a station in the North -- the best that could be had;
I want a man to pick the stock -- I want a super bad;
I want no bully-brute to boss -- no crawling, sneaking liar --
My station super's name shall be `Jack Dunn of Nevertire'!
Straight Dunn of Nevertire,
Old Dunn of Nevertire;
I guess he's known up Queensland way -- Jack Dunn of Nevertire.'

The super said, while to his face a strange expression came:
`I THINK I've seen the man you want, I THINK I know the name;
Had he a jolly kind of face, a free and careless way,
Gray eyes that always seem'd to smile, and hair just turning gray --
Clean-shaved, except a light moustache, long-limbed, an' tough as wire?'
`THAT'S HIM! THAT'S DUNN!' the stranger roared, `Jack Dunn of Nevertire!
John Dunn of Nevertire,
Jack D. from Nevertire,
They said I'd find him here, the cuss! -- Jack Dunn of Nevertire.

`I'd know his walk,' the stranger cried, `though sobered, I'll allow.'
`I doubt it much,' the boss replied, `he don't walk that way now.'
`Perhaps he don't!' the stranger said, `for years were hard on Jack;
But, if he were a mile away, I swear I'd know his back.'
`I doubt it much,' the super said, and sadly puffed his briar,
`I guess he wears a pair of wings -- Jack Dunn of Nevertire;
Jack Dunn of Nevertire,
Brave Dunn of Nevertire,
He caught a fever nursing me, Jack Dunn of Nevertire.'

We took the stranger round to where a gum-tree stood alone,
And in the grass beside the trunk he saw a granite stone;
The names of Dunn and Nevertire were plainly written there --
`I'm all broke up,' the stranger said, in sorrow and despair,
`I guess he has a wider run, the man that I require;
He's got a river-frontage now, Jack Dunn of Nevertire;
Straight Dunn of Nevertire,
White Jack from Nevertire,
I guess Saint Peter knew the name of `Dunn of Nevertire'.'

Hard Road

(h. vanda / g. young)
My mama n papa told me son that youre just a fool
When I told em I was leaving home I was leaving school
So then in a couple of hours I found myself
Heading down that southbound road
With everything I owned on my back
I carried such a heavy load
And its a hard, hard road that I travel
Its a hard, hard road that I travel
Its a hard, hard road that I travel down the line
And its a hard, hard road down the line
Well I wanna tell ya friends
That its good to be a traveling man
cause Im doing what I want to
Living just the best that I can
Nobody putting rings around my neck
To put me in a pigeon hole
Ive got my dog and my radio
To listen to some rock n roll
And its a hard, hard road that I travel
Its a hard, hard road that I travel
Its a hard, hard road that I travel down the line
And its a hard, hard road down the line

Ballad For A Friend

by Bob Dylan
Sad I'm sittin' on the railroad track,
Watchin' that old smokestack.
Train is a-leavin' bit it won't be back.
Years ago we hung around,
Watchin' trains roll through the town.
Now that train is a-graveyard bound.
Where we go up in that North Country,
Lakes and streams and mines so free,
I had no better friend than he.
Something happened to him that day,
I thought I heard a stranger say,
I hung my head and stole away.
A diesel truck was rollin' slow,
Pullin' down a heavy load.
It left him on a Utah road.
They carried him back to his home town,
His mother cried, his sister moaned,
Listin' to them church bells tone.

Horses And Trains

I love them both…., but the Equine more….,
Power to spare…., so different, so rare….,
Only one can breed…, the other can rust….,
But together they leave us all in the dust.

We can train a horse….,

But we can’t horse a train….,

And a horse can’t hide you from the rain…,

Seems this all sounds so insane….,

Still my heart and soul remains….,

With Horses And Trains.....,

Horses And Trains.

Moving Oleta

Moving Oleta was the hardest thing he'd done
The nurses saw an old woman cryin'
But he saw the love of his life
She don't know where she is
But she knows this isn't home
Love is a hard, hard road
He met her in the summer of thirty-seven
In a brush arbor down on the Rush Creek shore
He loved her black hair and the mischief in her smile
But she won him with her eyes
All the years and children gone
He still sees her the same
Love is a hard, hard road
He woke up and mornin' and drove into town
He stayed all day til her dinner came
Then he took her to her room
Leaned on her wheelchair like a walker
And covered her with a quilt that she'd made
Only God and a couple of nurses
Helped the old man shoulder the load
Love is a hard, hard road
He said "They tell me this is all that's left,
Say this hell on earth is best,
I list all those reasons and I still don't understand"
He cursed his body old and weak
Tears of failure burned his cheeks
He said "Oh, don't you know I prayed to die before this day"
Love is a hard, hard road
There's a shadow much darker than the shadow of death
When you fear the reaper might not come today
They line 'em up in Laz-E-Boys out in the sunroom
The TV keeps the quiet away
She can't recall his name
And she's the only love he's known
Love is a hard, hard road
Love is a hard, hard road
Moving Oleta was the hardest thing he'd done

A Heart Trade

Long time ago
A woman tried to trade her own heart: ..
..
My tears, would you please get dry? !
Is there somebody or something
To stop Me, stop my Cry?
Abyss! !
Release my body and my soul! Despair! !
My heart, is not your home:
Go! Disappear! Disintegrate! !
Get Homeless! Hungry! Die! ! !
.........................................
Aww.. Heart to become a killer? !
No,
Never
Can't! ..
Not even the despair and loneliness..
I know, they're bad..But they are personal
They're mine! ..
Hahahahaha...
No! I don't want anything (or nothing,) die? !
Do search for better word and choice:
What would it be? !
Transformation? ! Naah.. Evolution? ! Ttsst...Change? ! .~hard..
Sell..hmm..sounds bad
.Trade..yes! ! That's it! Trade it! !
I' ll trade my broken lonely crying heart
For anything to anyone..
Who wants it?
A broken lonely crying heart Once!
A broken lonely crying heart Twice! !
A broken...No Offered Price? !
The cheapest thing! A paper clip, a thread, Nothing! !
.. Lonely crying heart...
No one? !
Come on...Can't be that hard!
No problem..I Can be patient..
I'll wait..but please:
Stop time or help me stop my Cry..
....

And so, the poor woman
couldn't even do a trade..
And you know what?
She had to heal herself.
She did it smartly
By sharing little half torn
smiles..
And broken little pieces
of
her heart..
Bits, were put into baked cakes
shared in a small neighborhood
Others were put in flower's seeds
who knows where wind did spread them
But most, were put into warm words
and shared with an entire world..
Her heart developed..
Now days she found her dolphin smile
Again..

Let's Trade!

let's trade bullets for nails,
and bombs for boards,
and build houses for those without shelter!
let's trade anger for listening,
and aggression for compassion,
and realize no one owns this earth!
let's trade religion for humanity,
and salvation for community,
and walk the path of redemption!
let's trade success for inner peace,
the need to have for the need to give,
and so fulfill our destinies!

The Old Gunn's Gully Line

The ole train puffs in once a day
On the ole Gunn's Gully line;
In a lazy, leisurely kind o' way
She comes in, wet or fine.
Nobody wants her, nobody needs her,
Nobody likes her, nobody heeds; her
Usefulness is done.
But, wet or fine, or sun or shine,
That ole train's got to run.

A man an' a dog, they loaf about
To watch the train come in;
An' a man an' a boy an' a bag get out
With Bowyang's ole cream-tin.
An' all men say wot all men know:
That all things are as all things show,
An' the trip don't pay for grease.
But, come wot may, the Heads they say
Them trips must never cease.

Now, to an' from the market town,
On the new Gunn's Gully road,
The motor cars speed up an' down,
An' trucks with many a load,
For there's the road, an' there's the car,
An' there's the chance; so, there you are!
Let progress forge ahead!
But the Heads they say them cars must pay
Or the ole train might dropp dead.

The ole train puffs out once a day
On the ole Gunn's Gully spin;
With a man inside, some days, to ride
With Bowyang's old cream-tin.
And men ask, Why? An' men ask who
The ole train serves like the morors do?
But the Heads must have their fun.
So they shoves a tax on the people's backs;
For that ole train's-got-to-run!

One On One

Verse one:
In the rotten apple, take a bite taste the worm
Embrace the world of reality were faced to learn
Coke connection drug bust, graveyards where thugs rest
I keep my mug blessed, the evil is illegal substance sold
Roll mob deep, guns in the black jeep
Mac-11s and legends, cracks in the streets
Patroller, gold money-folder, gun happy soldiers
Never sober takin over, my blood is colder
Niggaz respect violence so I become it
Im from it, I even done it blunted so run it
Yeah son, you know what this is
Take it off [come on dunn, dont even come at me like that]
[dunn, come on dunn]
Chorus:
Imagine this, no guns no knife
Its a one on one so now we gots to fight, son
Imagine this, no gun no knife
Its a one on one now we got to fight, yeah
Imagine that, no gun no knife
Its a one on one now we got to fight, yeah
Imagine this, no gun no knife
Its a one on one, son
Verse two:
Yo Im a cream fiend, with a mean dream
Brain full of schemes, my crews rollin fresh out the greens
Give you what you never seen, the ips on the mac-10
Its 2:10 in the a.m. in the streets of queens
Try hard and die hard
Chances of survivin the game is like tryin to feed allah lard
A walk a piece with a deadly shadow
They want to blow me with the double barrel, found no sorrow
I brawl with blanka, caught bison in a thinker
Dont make hell your new home, with the blue chrome
Mistakes want me, sauve fellow but raunchy
The soul of a cold body haunts me, I flee the country
But only to shed tears for years
Too wild for my own self, hopin help is near
Street fightin was cool but in school I brought a new tool
Toolin with the devil, a rebel, a fool
Chorus:
Imagine this no guns no knife
Just a one on one where we got to fight, yeah
Imagine this no gun no knife
Just a one on one where we got to fight, yeah
Imagine this no gun no knife
Just a one on one where we got to fight, yeah
Imagine this no gun no knife
Just a one on one, a one on one
Yeah, take it to the bridge -- queensbridge
Yo whassup money? [yo yo do you remember this face? ]
[yeah yeah yeah, run these, run these]
*sounds of brawl* [break you down! get broke!]
[no hands, run that, run that, run that, no hands]
Verse three:
I hear jake walkie-talkies in my sleep
Marked money I keep, play the bitches all week
I visualize coups, alligators in suits
Elevators in my mansion that rises to the roof
Sippin eighty proof, watchin juice, but hold up
I see some brothers tryin to roll up, wishin I could fold up
Its hard to see their faces in they hoodies, I better boogie
Too late, I tried to swing when they jigged me, Im out...
Yeah yeah kid, dont front, 360 degrees, knowhatimsayin?
Thats how it comes back at you. queensbridge, thats how we live.
South side, all that. new york, light it up, light it up.
Yo yo you saw how I snuffed that kid? [yeah I saw that, I saw that]
You know how we steppin. thats how we do out here in the street fight!

Mansion On The Hill

Theres a place out on the edge of town, sir,
Risin above the factories and the fields
Now, ever since I was a child, I can remember
That mansion on the hill
In the day you can see the children playing
On the road that leads to those gates of hardened steel
Steel gates that completely surround, sir,
The mansion on the hill
At night my daddyd take me and wed ride
Through the streets of a town so silent and still
Park on a back road along the highway side
Look up at that mansion on the hill
In the summer all the lights would shine
Thered be music playin, people laughin all the time
Me and my sister, wed hide out in the tall cornfields
Sit and listen to the mansion on the hill
Tonight down here in linden town
I watch the cars rushin by, home from the mill
Theres a beautiful full moon rising
Above the mansion on the hill

Come Down This Road

Past this place in the road,
You shall see many people carying great load,
You may think to help, or just pass by,
It is up to you to know why.
Why you pass, why you stay,
But, caeful, from this road do not stray.
They shall show you how to learn how to know.
Some shall have their load taken, yet some shall never go,
The pain of it, the pain of trying.
Yet none shall know what it's like to be dying,
The laod shall never be gone, yet it could be lifted.
Each is different, each is gifted,
To your mind it is a burden, to your sould it is a part of you
You can not trade, for your soul is who you are, you can't start new.
As you travel down this road you will see,
That where it ends,
is eternity.

Trade You Lay

Don't get me started.
No don't get me started.
Don't get me started,
Don't!

You tell me for you I am the one,
But if I was younger...
I'd be fun.
But don't get me started.
Don't.

You want a poppa and a friend.
To toy around in your play pen.

Don't get me started.
Don't get me started,
Don't get me started,
Don't!

Because...
I refuse to be,
A piece of trade you lay.
I'm not that way.

No I...
Refuse to be,
Treated like a piece of meat!
Not today.

Don't get me started.
Don't get me started,
Don't get me started,
Don't!

Don't get me started.
Don't get me started,
Don't get me started,
Don't!

I...
Refuse to be,
Treated like a piece of meat.
Or a trade you lay.
Trade you lay.
Trade you lay.

Last Hard Bible

I sold my last hard bible
Just to pay my bills
I called my mother
To reserve me in her will
And the pay I'm getting every Thursday night
Well it just don't seem enough
Well money can buy me a hell of a lot
But it sure won't buy me love
Well I brought me a car
And I brought me a roadtrain
Car won't go
Trains to slow
So I found me a mansion
On the highest hillside
Bigger then this town
But it don't feel like home

I sold my last hard bible
Just to pay my bills
I called my mother
To reserve me in her will
And the pay I'm getting every Thursday night
Well it just don't seem enough
Well money can buy me a hell of a lot
But it sure won't buy me love

I spent my cash
On a brand new heartache
I spent my time
Trying to make it back
He took my heart
And he took my savings
He took the train
And left me on the track

I sold my last hard bible
Just to pay my bills
I called my mother
To reserve me in her will
And the pay I'm getting every Thursday night
Well it just don't seem enough
Well money can buy me a hell of a lot
But it sure won't buy me love

Tradewinds

(macdonald / salter)
Here I stand looking, looking around me
While all around me what do I see
Unhappy faces behind a painted smile
Heartache and loneliness dressed up in modern style
Unhappy people living in sin and shame
Reflections of myself, life is no easy game
Were caught in the trade winds
The trade winds of our time
Here I stand looking, looking around me
While all around me what do I see
Young girls wholl soon become
Streetwalkers in the night
Young boys, the restless breed
Looking for a fight
Children both rich and poor
Theyre searching for the truth
If they dont find it
God help tomorrows youth
Were caught in the trade winds
The trade winds of our time
Trade winds are blowing, blowing around me
While all around me what do I see
Hatred and jealousy
Brotherhood is dying
Love is the answer
But nobodys buying
Good people turning bad
Some dont but they are few
The winds are blowing
The choice is all up to you
Were caught in the trade winds
The trade winds of our time
Yes were caught up in the trade winds
The trade winds of our time
We are riding on the trade winds
The trade winds of our time

The biggest trade that Germany and Britain had was with each other, in the prewar period; I think I'm right in that. Two highly industrialized nations had the most trade with each other, and it wasn't tariff policies alone that made trade relations better for both of them.

Trains

Here I am at the end of the day
With a cup of cold coffee
From the station buffet.
On trains, on trains I seem
To spend my life on trains.
See the blue suit banker in the ticket line.
Got an evening standard with playboy
Hidden behind.
On trains, on trains he seems
To spend his life on trains.
Time after time.
Was I just dreaming?
Did I help you aboard?
Full passenger service ---
Let me help with the door.
Sit down take the weight off your feet.
Theres a train full of people Id like
You to meet.
On trains, on trains we love
To spend our lives on trains.
Join the secret world of trains.
Feel the pleasure. touch the pain.
Drift into yesterday.
Once and again
I was just thinking.
We could meet sometime
On the 17.30 where
I usually find
My friends at the end of the day.
May we pay your fare, lady?
We should like you to stay
In our train. on trains ---
Youll have to spend your life
On trains.
I hear theres an office party on the 18.05.
Youll be home for christmas if they
Take you alive from the train.
Those trains, we have to spend our lives
On trains.
Once and again
I was just thinking.
We could meet any time
On number two platform
Where I usually find
My friends at the end of the day.
On trains, trains, trains.

Gunbarrel Highway

Ill give you something to write home about
And Ill take you somewhere, show you around
We burnt all the cars that laid down and died
We burnt all the trees to keep us alive
Sat round the fire, sang like a choir
With the ashes of civilisation in our eyes
I come alive, I read the signs on the gunbarrel highway
Far off a dull radio beats for the young uninvolved
The meanings a football
A stick and a can and a kakadu man
Will the speaker speak up or the talker talk down
The world is no oyster and here in this town
Shit falls like rain on a world that is brown
I come alive, I read the signs on the gunbarrel highway
I come alive, and the children will sing as the
Satellite swings down that highway
Nothing could be longer than that corrugated road
No ever follows where the road trains go
And no where in the country do the dust storms blow so hard
So hard
I come alive, I read the signs on the gunbarrel highway
I hear the sound, its the wheels as they drive
And the cultures collide on that highway
Ah, its a hard day, the children will sing as the
Satellite swings down that highway

It's A Hard Road

I jumped on the train
I left this old town
I escaped the rain
I'm no longer down
The wheels start to turn
My worries are gone
I have lots to learn
About the trail that I'm on
As I look around
I see my new friend
I know I am bound
To travel till the end

I'll travel south and I'll travel north
I'll travel east and I'll travel west
I just want to find the road that is best

The train it did slow
I'm in a new place
The moonlight does glow
On my tired face
It's time for me
To try and find a bed
It's time for me
To rest my weary head
Morning is here
There's sorting to do
I'll sound sincere
With my goodbye to you

I'll travel south and I'll travel north
I'll travel east and I'll travel west
I just want to find the road that is best

It's time to move away
I'm not satisfied
I've spent many a day
Finding a place to reside
There's a town on my mind
It's just down the track
No need to find
A way to get back
The train I will get
Sitting at the station
The future is set
I feel anticipation

I'll travel south and I'll travel north
I'll travel east and I'll travel west
I just want to find the road that is best
