A Village In Orissa, India

-Where Persecution of the Indian Christian Continues Unabated

A nun was raped by a gang of men;
A priest was beaten; his eyes gouged off;
And he finally died!
Churches were torched;
Sexual assaults are rampant;
Women and children were not spared;
Many were beaten and even maimed;
Some are missing;
Many were burnt alive;
Crowds have run to the shelter of forests;
Homes of Christians have been destroyed;
Many were driven naked in the streets!
Christians of this village live in fear;
Some have reconverted to Hindu faith to keep their lives;
Yet, the Indian Christian was always known for his non-violence;
If someone converts, it is the ‘will of God’.
And such things happen in a secular, democratic country like India!
And while all these terrible things are happening,
The rest of India - people, press, politicians, police
SLEEP

The world goes on as usual;
Perhaps, the beginning of new persecution of Indian Christians
And blood of new Christian martyrs
Is needed to cleanse the land
Of its sins!
God save these poor souls!
Please Jesus, forgive the perpetrators.

WILL NOT THE WORLD AWAKE
TO STOP THE ATROCITIES?

VANAMIKA – ‘the lily of the forest’

A pregnant Christian mother
Ran for the forest’s shelter
To save two lives!

And in the forest’s coolness
And in the light with darkness
Was born her child!

She named her ‘Vanamika’
(‘The lily of the forest’)
– A mother’s joy!

This happened in Orissa
Where Christians were driven out
To the forest!

Churches have been vandalized;
Most Christian homes have been burned;
Some burnt alive!

Work of Hindu fanatics
Who loot and burn and destroy
All things, Christian!

‘You can change a person’s mind;
You can kill the body too,
But you can’t touch the soul! ’

Christians are followers of Christ;
Soldiers of Christ Jesus;
Children of God.

The Holy Spirit within
Keeps Christians from every sin;
They always win!

O God of Heaven, save us,
From orgies of hell on earth,
Unleashed by men!

Bring back peace to Orissa;
Rebuild churches, homes destroyed;
Spread the Love of Christ!

Send an angel, God, we ask,
For the miraculous task;
All evil-doers unmask!

Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity

Is India Still Secular?

A nun was gang-raped in public;
A priest was beaten black and blue!
Half-naked, both were paraded;
While police-men stood near-by mute!

They burnt houses of Christians!
They torched the churches and killed some;
They reconverted quite a few;
‘Christians have no place in own land! ’

This was how Kandhamal returned
the love and charity of both;
They suffered for the sake of Christ!
Shame on a nation with such crimes!

Religions have sense of values;
But fanatics don’t have any;
Are not the Christians Indians too;
Why blame them for a Hindu’s death?

‘A little pencil in God’s hand’, -
in words of Mother Teresa –
are missionary sisters who serve
serve the poorest poor for Christ’s sake!

They see Christ in the poor they meet;
Like pencils they serve till worn out;
In white sarees with blue-border,
Their Foundress was Mother Teresa;

They offer smiles to distressed souls;
They caress people abandoned;
They console hearts filled with chaos;
The unwanted are made happy.

But Jesus touches any heart!
He turned Saul to Apostle Paul!
God’s-calling, no one can refuse;
All souls surrender to His love.

The ways of God are strange and queer!
God chooses anyone He wants;
He will not neglect souls that pray;
God’s rod is weapon powerful-most!

The country where Teresa slogged,
And won the Noble Prize for Peace
Has sadly ignored her sisters,
Who suffer ignominy much.

No one knows what one will become!
Religion is a transient thing –
The outer garb for every soul,
That must be pure to Heaven reach.

Why crush the flowers meant for God?
No man can win against God’s power;
Why ruin lives who serve the Lord?
God’s curse and wrath awaits such souls!

A priest or nun has made a vow –
His body, mind belongs to God;
He lives his life just for God’s sake;
His soul will surely reach heaven.

To be a Christian is God’s will!
A Christian is proud to be one;
He’ll give his life for Jesus’ sake;
His love for God, no one can steal!

‘Bees will Return to Hives! ’

The Saffronization of India?
–Phulbani, Kandhammal, Orissa, India.
'Calm follows every storm;
But Christians must be calm! '

‘Where martyrs’ blood be spilt,
More churches will be built!
Without much shame or guilt,
Fanatics hit the hilt’

Their saffron hues, they spray
On Dalit Christians, aye!
They won’t allow them pray;
They hunt them night and day!

What tragedy now looms!
‘Turn Hindu, ’ call now booms;
‘Or die; be bruised and maimed! ’
Why Christians all are blamed?

Frenzied mobs on rampage:
A war on Christians wage;
Conversion is their lie,
As Christians many die!

Can’t one profess their faith
Of choice and freedom, say?
Are Christians not Indians?
God will show them their way!

Such states are keeping quiet;
They want Christians to fight;
‘Violence begets violence’
Most Christians stay calm, hence.

Are there no basic rights?
Most Christian homes lost lights;
Hundreds have been destroyed;
Pleas have gone null and void.

Most Christians are too hurt;
No one seems to regret;
Churches are simply torched,
And human beings scorched!

As angry mobs destroy,
And loot the Christian homes;
And burn them down overnight;
O, see the Dalit’s plight!

‘Kandhammal is burning;
Christians are hiding
in the forests near-by,
Out of fear for their lives!

The Bureaucracy’s sleeping!
A community’s weeping;
And the nation goes on
As usual, from dusk to dawn!

Who gives the rioters rights
To kill and loot and maim?
The government takes no blame;
Keeps its political aim.

All Indians are brothers;
They spare not nuns, sisters!
They burn Christians alive,
For converting the tribes?

Will not some leader ask?
Is peace then no one’s task?
Christians cannot worship
Nor live in peace, friendship.

Conversion is excuse
For mobs to cause abuse
Of Dalit Christians poor
Who grew in numbers more!

God watches all these crimes;
He will usher new climes;
As martyrs’ blood cries, pleads
To stop arson, misdeeds.

Has Nature lost its cool?
More floods are going to kill
the robust and the ill,
The ‘wise fanatic fool! ’

Shouldn’t Christians not unite,
As churches, homes ignite?
Our patience isn’t weakness;
God is God of fairness!

If churches bear insult
Temples aren’t stronger built;
Time teaches all lessons,
As blatant lie weakens.

They blame the poor Christians
Who belong to same soil;
Their living God’s mighty –
One, only Almighty!

But how long will they kill
And take innocent lives?
The fanatics have skill?
‘Bees will return to hives! ’

Such states can’t then progress
If violence won’t regress;
God will not spare culprits
Ready are His hell-pits!

Spate in Persecution of Indian Christians?

Conversions come from God, the Almighty!
The ways of God are strange, unfathomable;
Christ Jesus forecast persecutions when
One follows Him on road to Calvary.

The Bible is the Word of God, most High;
The words are true and give light to mankind;
The words can work miracles in minds, hearts;
None can prevent the souls that heed His call!

A few fanatics spread disharmony;
The nation ought to ban these groups of men;
They sow the seeds of discord amidst all;
‘All Indians are brothers and sisters’ – Know.

Christians of India are Indians as well.
Why destroy churches, unleash on them, hell?
Why kill and maim the 3% of souls?
They are ready to lay down lives for God!

No one has right to kill or destroy homes;
No heinous crimes on earth go unpunished;
All minorities should be protected;
The fanatics should be booked very fast..

The floods and droughts are killing more people;
Abortions, hunger takes so many lives;
The poor are turning poorer every day;
Why destroy places of worship sacred?

The Holy Spirit will show them the way;
God will punish those who destroy churches;
All violent men will reap a violent end;
All Christians pray God ushers peace again.

The noble work of Indian Christians stand
As testimony to the love of God,
Who loves all righteous souls and sinners too;
Why kill and maim all Indian Christians? –Tell.

Are Indian Christians from another world?
They fought for Freedom and shed their blood too;
They serve to mitigate sufferings around;
Why burn them live as if they had done crimes?

The blood of martyrs has founded the Church;
All Christians wait for Christ’s second coming;
All evil-doers will be punished then, with
Hell’s pit fiery, as their eternal home.

All Christians pray that God should calm the place;
A few extremists can’t sow much discord;
Awake, O Leaders, ‘Make the land aright.’
Democracy of India can’t go wrong!

O Living God, One and Lord Jesus Christ!
Pour your compassion on the suffering souls!
Let religion not cause a deep divide
Amidst the Indians who are all one flock!

Sunday Christians

today is Sunday
the one day sunday christians
are off to church

these are the Christians
who are only Christian
one day Sunday a week

Christians for only one day?
one day sunday for a few hours?
sin of Hypocrisy in Christianity?

is one of the most detestable sins
it causes righteous worshippers to stumble
it takes the name of God in vain

my neighbor proclaims I am not a Christian
because I do not show go to church Sunday
she is correct I am not a Christian as she is?

this is all that she is correct in...
I do not claim to be a good Christian...
I do not even claim to be a Christian...

although every hour every day God
motivates many multiple actions in my life
God even at times enters my dreams

motivates the first actions of my day
after I arise from precious sleeping
even in sleep God is part of my life

I am Christian Buddhist Muslim Jewish
I am respectful of all who worship God
respectful of all who worship in sincerity

God said love your neighbor
I love them and pity them both
God said thy shall not judge

I am mindful of my own sins
I have pity for the sins suffering of others
I rejoice in my Lord Savior Jesus

Jesus Christ, Our Hope, Strength and Refuge!

For sins of human beings all,
Lord Jesus laid His life on cross;
Although a sin-free soul Himself,
He suffered, died to redeem man.

He shed His every dropp of blood,
Emancipating human race
From punishment by hell for sins –
Such heinous crimes upon the earth!

The cross is part of Christian’s life,
And persecutions will happen,
As Christ predicted all these things,
For those who walked in His foot-steps!

His Holy Spirit guides Christians,
Who live a righteous life for Christ,
The only Son of Almighty –
A heart of immense love for man!

But Christ resurrected from death!
He won clear victory o’er satan;
All Christians good will do the same;
This faith is something strangely true.

Let humiliations come in life!
Let trials, tribulations come!
Let strife threaten our faith and hope!
Christ stays with us till end of time!

A Christian takes his cross and walks
Behind the Savior, Jesus Christ –
The Light and Truth and only Way
To reach Heaven, abode of God!

The Patriotic Indian

I’m proud to be an Indian:
I’m glad to a Christian;
I love my every fellowmen;
I prefer things just Indian.

So great is India’s heritage;
The world is thrilled by its image;
Our culture is so very good;
So are our spices and our food.

’Tis not well-developed, our nation;
Our democracy’s worth mention;
We are peace-loving citizens,
Hard-working with much common-sense.

We do not want any factions;
We want brotherhood of nations;
We love to have peaceful neighbors,
And hate declaring futile wars!

We have achieved so many things;
Our glory world-over still rings;
We have problems to face, fiscal;
We got our freedom by struggle.

India is our great motherland;
We have great faith in Maker’s Hand;
Our population is so vast;
United, we can hold it fast.

We pray to live in amity;
We do not want enmity;
We wish to spread peace everywhere;
We love to breathe our country’s air!

The Moslem And The Christian

by mere chance one day
the christian and the moslem become neighbors

the moslem fenced his house
for fear that the christian may squat a part of its porch

the christian on the other hand
instructs his children not to befriend his children
for fear of betrayal

the moslem too instructs his kids to watch over their sleepers
the christians mind you steal from the moslems he said

the christian is cautious too
on the thinking that moslems are terrorists

on these set of prejudices
they can never live happily ever after

thus the christian-moslem story never ends.

Mark My Words!

'You mark my words, ' the Cabbie said,
To his fare for the night,
'Us Christians know what lies ahead
And we will steer you right.'
Then he explained his earnest faith
In Jesus Christ the Lord
And said that He was strong to save,
That's why He is adored.

'You mark my words, ' the Cabbie said,
'Christ is the light of men!
Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead!
He's coming back again!
The Holy Bible's prophecies
Are meant to put us straight.
They prove Christ is the Prince of Peace
For whom us Christians wait.'

'You mark my words, ' the Cabbie said,
'Lord Jesus died for you!
Upon that Cross His Blood was shed
To prove God's love is true.
For all our sins He took the blame,
Then took our sins away.
That's why us Christians praise His Name!
That's why us Christians pray.'

'You mark my words, ' the Cabbie said,
To his fare for the night,
'Us Christians must be Spirit-led,
Serve God with all our might! '
The passenger had understood.
He was a Christian, too.
His heart was warmed, 'Our God is good!
Good night and God bless you! '

On Saints and Martyrs

Our sufferings are not greater than those
Martyrs, prophets, apostles, saints, who died,
A death of persecution for Christ's sake;
Upon their blood-shed sprung the Catholic Church!

Lives of all these holy persons reveal
The Holy Spirit dwelt within their flesh,
Emboldening their spirits to the core,
So that their faith remained until last breath!

Let Christians offer their sufferings to Christ,
Who took upon Himself all mankind's sins
And died upon the cross redeeming man,
And opened heaven to penitent souls!

How wonderful to bear witness to Christ!
Lord remembers all those who died for Him;
He promised eternity for those souls,
Who lived for Christ's sake all through their lives!

God's glory shines through exemplary lives,
Who lost their lives for sake of faith and Christ;
They will be closest to God in heaven,
Remaining so unto eternity!

United, we stand t

A gold for shooting; we’re proud.
A.R.Rahman makes us bask.
India grows; so do Indians.

All these things are happening
Cutting across barriers
Of regions and religions,
With caste and creed buried.

Which has made it possible?
The Republic of India
And we as its citizens:
The identity connecting.

India must be there; guard it.
India must progress; serve it.
Be Indian and buy Indian.
Stand for and by Indians.

Divided by jealousy,
Exploited by betrayal,
India yielded to invasions.
The history must not repeat.

Identity as Indian must stand
Before any kind of identity.
Be there concern for fellow Indians.
Divided we fall; united we stand.

Janganmana binds us
As our National Anthem.
Let us sing it with the same spirit
With which our grandparents sang.

An Ode To A Saint Of Peace

An Ode to a Saint of Non-Violence – Mahatma Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

He came from a non-descript Indian place
A village which would not have a place
In Her Majesty’s palace’ grace
What could this man for India raise?

When the Indian nation reeled
Under a foreign yoke
This frail man with iron will
Preached a master stroke

He visualized violence was no funnel
To get to the end of the tunnel
That the spring of freedom would gurgle
For the Indian freedom struggle

It is not arms and blood
Or revenge, violence or death
That will get India freedom
From the British kingdom

They can take away our right
They can make their sticks bite
They can take us to gaol
But they cannot take away our soul!

Protests with no violence
Will shake their conscience
It is the only way
For the British to loose its sway

Despite British scorn
And ire of critics
He made every Indian “re-born”
And friends of skeptics

Respect for all and love for mankind
He preached & practiced
He made every Indian aware
And the British beware

When the British enacted suppressive laws
This soul bonded us with his non-violent straw
His simplicity and truthfulness held all in awe
He gave us belief, pride and strength not to thaw

In 1930 Gandhi gave a key freedom call
Civil disobedience was the mantra for all
Salt Tax was the symbol of oppression
That every Indian was to defy and make it fall

Men & women all were one
With Gandhi, they feared none
When Gandhi gave his peaceful protest call
They all rallied behind it like a wall

In Gandhi’s belief the nation rallied
Made the British rulers harried
The struggle for the British to leave continued
The voice of India was not to be subdued

The Salt law was broken
It was a challenge in token
The average Indian now believed
That the British could be shaken

The British police rained bullets and blows
Gandhi remained defiant with his followers in tow
Line replaced line as protestors were brought down
Under the bullets and blows of the Crown

A trickle became a torrent
The British blows served no deterrent
Pan India the rallies and crowds swelled
The peaceful voice of freedom could not be quelled

British goods were boycotted
In public rallies, they were burnt
Swadeshi! Swadeshi! rent the air
While the British sirens blared

Civil dis-obedience and satyagraha – grounded
The British were perplexed and confounded
The entire nation rallied to his non-violent call
The world took notice of it all

Came World War II
The Allies were stretched
While the war was won
British revenue coffers were wrecked

The Indian “Golden Hen”
Became a revenue drain
While Gandhi did not give in
His non-violent freedom refrain

Quit India! Quit India!
Unrelenting was Gandhi’s call
While the clamor gathered
The British “will” shattered

The Britsh knew not - how to handle it all
A frail looking man, had challenged them all
Years of supremacy of the British domain
Had cracked up under this non-violent virus strain.

The British empire gave in
To Gandhi’s non-violence spin
India was to become free
Without any violence or fee.

It is to this frail looking man
That the world gives credit
The strong belief in non-violence
He continues to inspire without any edit

To Indian, he is Bapu – The Father of the Nation
To the world he is an apostle of non-violence
And while the world looks on in silence
On still continuing theatres of violence

I pray that conflicting parties learn
No peace comes from the power of the gun
In how Bapu got us freedom – they should learn
Violence - they should shun

Think Back, O Indian!

O Indian, O Indian!
Why not you think awhile?
How came your freedom?
How came this soil?
How came your brothers?
Why do you toil?
What’s your heritage?
What’s your love?
What’s your advantage?
Just think it now.

O Indian, O Indian!
Why don’t you muse awhile?
What makes up India?
What are its states?
What are its rivers?
Who are your mates?
Whose blood in you flows?
Who are your neighbors?
Why fight with brothers?
Just think it now.

O Indian, O Indian!
Why not you brood awhile?
What are your dangers?
What integrates?
What are your misgivings?
How do you solve?
Where’s your heart now?
Where is your soul?
Where’s your peace of mind?
Just think it now.
