There is a trade off - as you grow older you gain wisdom but you lose spontaneity.

The Feeling That We Have

(charlie smalls)
Put your arms around me child
Like when you bumped your shin
Then youll know I love you now
As I loved you then
Though you maybe trying sometimes
And Ill need you
And youre not there
You know I may get mad
And turn away
But you know that I still care
But you cannot ask for more
Than can come from me
I am older than you are
And one day youll see
If I lose my patience with you
And I suddenly start to scream
Its only because I just want you to be
Everything that I see in my dreams
And Id like to know its there
The feeling that we have
When you know that you can come
Running to me
Whenever times are bad
Dont lose the feeling that we have
Dont lose the feeling that we have
Though you are growing older now
And Im watching you grow
I know I make you sad sometimes
And I see your feeling show
But one day Ill look around
And you will be grown
Youll be out in the world
Such a pretty girl
Youll be on your own
And Id like to know its there
The feeling that we have
Knowing that you can come to me
Whenever you are sad
And Id like to know its there
The feeling that we have
Dont lose the feeling that we have
Dont lose the feeling that we have
Dont lose the feeling that we have

The Filling That We Have

Written & composed: charlie smalls
Music: charlie smalls
Put your arms around me child,
Like when you bumped your shin;
Then youll know I love you now,
As I loved you then
Though you may be trying sometimes,
And Ill need you and youre not there;
You know I may get mad and turn away,
But you know that I still care
But you cannot ask for me,
Than can come from me;
I am older than you are,
And one day youll see
If I lose my patience with you,
And I suddenly start to scream;
Its only because I just want you to be
Everything I see in my dreams
Chorus :
And Id like to know its there,
The feeling that we have,
When you know that you can come running to me,
Whenever times are bad
Dont lose the feeling that we have
Dont lose the feeling that we have
Though youre growing older now,
And Im watching you grow;
I know I make you sad sometimes,
And I see your feelings show.
But one day Ill look around,
And you will be grown;
Youll be out in the world,
Such a pretty girl,
But youll be on your own
Chorus :
And Id like to know its there,
The feeling that we have;
Knowing that you can come to me
Whenever you are sad
Child, Id like to know its there,
The feel that we have-
Dont lose the feeling that we have.
Dont lose the feeling that we have

Let us weigh the gain and the loss in wagering that God is, but let us consider the two possibilities. If you gain, you gain all if you lose you lose nothing. Hesitate not, then, to wager that He is.

Older They Grow But Not Up

Older they grow,
But not up!

Many never experience a maturity.
Raised on entertaining limited thoughts.
And few have abilities,
To comprehend little of what they read.
Or take the responsibility,
To hold themselves accountable...
For actions begun and those they leave.

Older they grow,
But not up!

And demands they make,
To satisfy their spoiled ways.
Since no one around them wants to hear them fuss.
Realizing not one of those fussers who also cuss,
Wants to take a position,
To make a decisive decision.

Since accusations are prioritized in their lives lived,
As a must.
And expectations are less for them.
For those exposed to them growing older...
Knowing these minds have no time left.
For them to show a growing up,
With a thoughtfulness.

Older they may grow...
But for them it sure is not up!

When

When?

When did the snowfall
Lose it’s magic?
When did the night sky
Commence to look small?

It was when I grew up…

When did the past
Become so tragic
When did the shadows
Start to fall

It was when I grew older…

When did the sunset
Lose it’s wonder
When did the sunrise
Lose it’s ability to awe

It was when I grew old and jaded…

When did people’s names
Become so hard to remember
When did I lose
The love of September

I think… I think it was when I got older still….

When did I start crying
At the smallest sad thing
When did my memory
Begin to take wing

I think it was….I’m almost sure it was…
But I can’t exactly….remember just
when

What is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul I suppose this depends somewhat upon the size of the soul. I think there are cases where the trade would do.

No fast friend

I lose ones who I frequent.
I lose ones when out of touch.
I lose ones who grow higher.
I lose ones when I grow higher.
I lose ones when they or I move out.
No one is close to me for ever.

Everyone Is Growing Older

Between warring Countries hostilities do not last
And 'tis true your friend of tomorrow may be your foe of the past
But life goes on as usual that's how it seems to be
And we make friends with the old foe to fight our new common enemy
And everyone grows older but few grow wise and gray
For we still glorify the folly of war in the World of today
And we find things in common when we have a common foe
But as we do grow older few of us do wiser grow,
We celebrate war heroes to die in war is not seen as a sin
And when one war it is over another war begin
To use the name of God in war seems hypocritical that would seem fair to say
And to Moses fifth commandment respect we never pay
Crimes of hate and xenophobia sad to say are on the rise
And everyone is growing older but so few are growing wise.

Senior Reprive

The days grow colder
Months seem like days
Suddenly you’re older
“Yet another castaway”

Life gave you great wisdom
The young refuse to hear
They’re too busy having fun
“Leave us alone” they sneer

The days grow short
Health begins to fail
Gone is life’s support
Blue skies grow pale

Your weary soul phones Grim Reaper
Death delayed? ? ?
‘Ole Reap” forgot turn on his beeper

Selfish

When we are young,
we are selfish
and want all the fruit on the tree.
As we grow older
we respect everything that is there,
and only want a little
of what stands before us there.
We become unselfish
and the word is replaced with share.
As we grow, older
all we want to do is share.

A Swallow On My Neck

Oh ...
I have been smashed again
With the men from the
Old Valhalla Road Crematorium
Boring men with the same old patter
I am a simple man
Not much to gain or lose
And I don't know why I held out
So long for me and you
Until he drew
A swallow on my neck
And more, I will not say
He drew
A swallow, deep and blue
And soon, everyone knew
Then I was wrecked again
With the men full of bluff and ardour
From a well-known funeral parlour
I am a simple man
Not much to gain or lose
Older and wiser
Never applies to me
And so he drew
A swallow on my neck
And more, I will not say
He drew
A swallow, deep and blue
And soon, everyone knew
Aah ...
Oh ...
You have been telling me
That I have been
Acting childish
Foolish, ghoulish and childish
Oh, I know, I know, I know !
I know, I know, I know
But I don't mind
I don't mind
I don't mind
Ah ...
I don't mind
Ah

No Pain, No Gain

With pain, you get no gain.
And with gain, you get no pain.
Im too young too know but a little too old too find out that the matter of the fact is..
Without pain, you just gain.
And without gain, you get tons of pain.
Lying is sorta the same.
You lie, well you dont get gain for that.
Just pain.
But if you dont lie, you gain without the pain.
People dont realize the difference between pain and gain.
But again, im too young to know, but a little too old to find out.
But im just young enough too find out that when I get older I will know the correct difference between, No Pain. No Gain.

Pioneering New Territory

The onslaught of vacuous meanderings,
Is a representation of the futile attempts...
One makes to create spontaneity.

And this...
In one's mindlessness,
Does not exist! Spontaneity.

However...
What does,
Is an abundance of innovative mediocrity.

And with the increase of nonsense...
One is boosted with a feeling that thrills,
As if pioneering new territory.
