Nature At Its Best!
In walks across the countryside,
What wondrous sights these eyes have spied -
From foxes darting clean away
To badgers when they're lost in play!
A butterfly flits past my face
Another flower to embrace!
Perchance and serendipity
A flying eagle I might see...
An otter's seldom seen, and yet,
It happened once - I'll not forget!
I don't catch fish, I watch them swim -
Mid waters clear and waters dim.
Both frogs and salmon like to leap
From waters shallow, waters deep...
Binoculars assist me well,
Across the meadow, hill and dell...
I write down species one by one,
As this itself adds to the fun!
From nature books I swot and swot!
It's great to know I've learnt a lot!
I hear the calls of many birds -
It's almost like they're speaking words!
I like the redbreast robin most!
It's humble without need to boast!
Two hedgehogs visit now and then...
I've called one 'Bill', the other 'Ben'!
I like God's creatures near or far...
In fact, to me, each one's a star!
They're not all noble like the horse,
Yet they all bless my nature course!

Home Sweet Home
sunday on a home sweet home
from the city
to this little nipa hut
on top of a hill
that father built
where the guava trees are filled
with ripe fruits
where i climb and gather and taste
the sweetness of its pink flesh
where the carabaos rest
in the coolness of mudholes
where i take my ride on them
in the river nearby
on crystal clear waters
where some fish swim on shallow waters
inviting me to fish and catch them
for lunch of pearl white glutenous rice
and with banana leaves as plates
and some wild chicken's barbecued breast
and with my bare hands and
some childhood friends
we shall take this simple feast

Shallow Days...
well, there are
shallow days, nothing deep
something for my
feet,
above me the sun
one and only one sun
just the sun and my head
and the shallow waters
on my toes
and the noon time walk
when everyone is as usual
having lunch, and
my toes get wet and i
am making meanings
on the shallow waters
the body in the middle of
this air, the hands are like
eagles flying. the fingers are
turning into feathers

I Bless You, Forests
I bless you, forests, valleys, fields, mountains, waters,
I bless freedom and blue skies.
I bless my staff and my humble rags.
And the steppe from beginning to end,
And the sun's light, and night's darkness,
And the path I walk, pauper that I am,
And, in the field every blade of grass,
and every star in the sky!
O! if only I could encompass all life,
And join my soul with yours.
O! if only I could embrace you all,
Enemies, friends and brothers, and all nature,
And enfold all nature in my arms!

Bizarre Questions?
What is happening to the bees
that used to visit flowers and trees?
Are they sick and if so why?
What is happening to the fish
that used to swim in waters clean?
Are they now sick and what does it mean?
Why are birds falling out of the sky.
They used to fly in the air so high.
Now we find them dead on the ground.
Why are God's creatures being attacked?
What is it that's wrong?
Have they forgotten where they belong?
Or has the hand of evil
finally gone too far?
Have they taken technology to its limit
and brought us to where we are?
Slowly but steadily they destroy life.
Will we become a burned out star?

In The Shallow Waters
to the geese
all waters are shallow
does one always have
to be on top
of the deep
silent waters?
to fathom the deep
and be the deep
itself
engrossed to the wisdom
of its secrets
and wallow
in the enigma
of the anonymous
or the unknown paths
breathless
there is a time to be
not ourselves
and we take chances on the
shallow waters
in there we are not fishers
of men
or women or anything
we wade and relax
waters covering half our bodies
half-truths
you must see and feel
trivial as they are
they make us
so light like cotton
or silk flowing on our skins
like clouds
we float and drift and go anywhere
i felt it once
oh, so nice temporarily but at the end
it haunts me.
for it is not me and it can never be me.
i am matter, i have weight and i sink
to the bottom
to the deepest secrets of my truths
if i drown at least, i have my graveyard
ready.

Tear by Tear (for Onelia)
At night
I visit
the village
in which I was
born.
I float
above rooftops
dive into the house
next door
to my own
little home
swim down streets
with all the swagger
of a fish
amongst coral reefs.
It lies to the northwest
but is submerged
beneath the waters
behind a dam.
Each night
I visit it
leaving my body
behind
drifting in dreams
diving beneath the waters
of the Past
(swimming where) I used to walk
trying to remake it
memory by memory
tear by tear.

In Green Old Duhallow From Here Far Away
The fields in their beautiful wildflowers of May
In green old Duhallow from here far away
And nesting birds sing in grove and on hedgerow
In Cullen where Araglen waters do flow
On to the Blackwater en route to the sea
The old river babbles on eternally
Through a Countryside that is as ancient as time
That has inspired poets of the past for to rhyme
About the great beauty around them they had seen
In May when the landscape was looking so green
For May is a beautiful time of the year
In green old Duhallow so far north of here
The wonders of Nature a thing to enjoy
The cock pheasants are cucking in old Lisnaboy
In fancy I am back in the long ago
Just remembering a beauty that I used to know.
Were I a poet of such beauty I would write
White butterflies flitting in the warm sunlight
and cock robin with the sun on his red breast sing
In green old Duhallow in the latter Spring.
In fancy the song of the chaffinch I hear
In green old Duhallow so far north of here
Where the babbling waters of Araglen flow
Through fields to the Blackwater by grove and hedgerow.

Exile
By the sad waters of separation
Where we have wandered by divers ways,
I have but the shadow and imitation
Of the old memorial days.
In music I have no consolation,
No roses are pale enough for me;
The sound of the waters of separation
Surpasseth roses and melody.
By the sad waters of separation
Dimly I hear from an hidden place
The sigh of mine ancient adoration:
Hardly can I remember your face.
If you be dead, no proclamation
Sprang to me over the waste, gray sea:
Living, the waters of separation
Sever for ever your soul from me.
No man knoweth our desolation;
Memory pales of the old delight;
While the sad waters of separation
Bear us on to the ultimate night.

The Cool Living Waters
the cool living waters of spring
plunge in like a hot rod wanting pacification
flames of fire
cinders of desire
let us be calm and swim in the cool living waters
of divinity
nude we realize there is shame and we stand
and take the clothes of morality
then we rest under the cool shades of green trees
beside the brook
the winds from the mountains refresh what dimples we have
and we reflect upon the words of God
time moves and stays a while and this evil of boredom comes
idle moments craving for more
and then we stand and play under the sun
we run, we play, we sweat and those that watch us
begin to think
that we are sinners on the loose
cool living waters i ask
bathe and wash all their dirty minds

Night Litany
O Dieu, purifiez nos cceurs!
Purifiez nos coeurs !
Yea the lines hast thou laid unto me
in pleasant places,
And the beauty of this thy Venice
hast thou shown unto me
Until is its loveliness become unto me
a thing of tears.
O God, what great kindness
have we done in times past
and forgotten it,
That thou givest this wonder unto us,
O God of waters?
O God of the night,
What great sorrow
Cometh unto us,
That thou thus repayest us
Before the time of its coming?
O God of silence,
Purifiez nos cœurs,
Purifiez nos cœurs,
For we have seen
The glory of the shadow of the
likeness of thine handmaid,
Yea, the glory of the shadow
of thy Beauty hath walked
Upon the shadow of the waters
In this thy Venice.
And before the holiness
Of the shadow of thy handmaid
Have I hidden mine eyes,
O God of waters.
O God of silence,
Purifiez nos cœurs,
Purifiez nos cœurs,
O God of waters,
make clean our hearts within us,
For I have seen the
Shadow of this thy Venice
Floating upon the waters,
And thy stars
Have seen this thing, out of their far courses
Have they seen this thing,
O God of waters,
Even as are thy stars
Silent unto us in their far-coursing,
Even so is mine heart
become silent within me.
Purifiez nos cœurs,
O God of the silence,
Purifiez nos cœurs,
O God of waters.

Write Not On Waters
Write not on waters,
To write on waters is not a good practice.
Whatever you write on them,
Whether it is meeting or parting,
Whether it is pang or tang,
Is not perpetual.
The inscriptions on waters are fleeting,
They take us into illusions,
And wipe away us all.

The Fisher
ALL night a noise of leaping fish
Went round the bay,
And up and down the shallow sands
Sang waters at their play.
The mangroves drooped on salty creeks,
And through the dark,
Making a pale patch in the deep,
Gleamed, as it swam, a shark.
In streaks and twists of sudden fire
Among the reeds
The bream went by, and where they passed
The bubbles shone like beads.
All night the full deep drinking-song
Of Nature stirred,
And nought beside, save leaping fish
And some forlorn night-bird.
No lost wind wandered down the hills
To tell of wide
Wild waterways; on velvet moved
The silky, sucking tide.
Deep down there sloped in shadowy mass
A giant hill;
And midway, mirrored in the tide,
The stars burned large and still.
The fisher, dreaming on the rocks,
Heard Nature say
Strange, secret things that none may hear
Upon the beaten way;
And whisperings and wonder stirred,
And hopes and fears,
And sadness touched his heart, and filled
His eyes with star-stained tears:
And so, thrilled through with joy and love
And sweet distress,
He stood entranced, enchained by her
Full-breasted loveliness.

A Fixation
between two islands
of my life
i set upon a swim
this middle portion
of clear calm waters
it is not deep
no storms not even a wave
it is crystal clear
and beneath
a white sandy floor
some fish lick my legs
and tickle my pelvis
some sea grass massage
the soles of my feet
and so i like it here
and i am not going somewhere
or anywhere
the other island
which they call eternal bliss
for a while
can wait
it is between day and night
it is between heaven and earth
it is between life and death
it is what you call
my sinfulness.
in here i am very happy
and that is all enough for me
the sky blue waters are so cool
& the surroundings simply beautiful

Waters Of Scapa Flow
Seagulls fly low over the waters
of Scapa Flow
where giant warships lie sleeping
in the waters far below.
At the end of the First World War
the Germans gathered their ship in line
and the scuttled them.
Rather than hand them over
to the victors of the war.
Now the mighty warships sleep soundly
with the fish deep blow
in the waters of Scapa Flow.

Falling Waters..
falling waters rushing to and fro
boundless love, nature's gift from above
how wide, how wonderful, i stand in awe
Oh Lord, you are so good and true
its sound gives me peace and serenity
my heart leaps with joy, i couldn't ask for more
my soul is thirsty, you give me plenty
this falling waters rushing to and fro
there is so much that i can give to you
but you give me more than what i expect
this falling waters rushing to and fro
is more than enough of the love you give
i will be singing the songs of nature
of falling waters that runs to and fro
in my heart, in my dreams
saying..THANK YOU LORD..for this wonderful gift..

Do Not Stay On The Deepest Part Of The River
lest you get drowned
or be taken hostage by the
monster
join with us
friends of the shallow waters
we are wading
and laughing and
filtering colors
on the prism
we are kids on the shallow waters
our chins on the stone
our minds still dreaming

Slow Rivers (feat. Elton John)
The weather man, he looks confused.
Shakes his fist at the sky like you used to do.
But you don't remember things like that, do you?
The balance was uneven but i'm breaking through.
Slow rivers run cold,
Shallow waters never sank so low.
I thought i'd drown and you'd never know,
You're a slow river and you run so cold.
The winter here don't belive in god,
The bitter wind just bites through me like a wild dog.
I still see in your eyes tonight like headlights through the fog,
But one foot in your door, oh that's all i ever got.
Slow rivers run cold,
Shallow waters never sank so low.
I thought i'd drown and you'd never know,
You're a slow river and you run so cold.
Chances are you'll reappear.
Swim my way in a flood of tears,
No place to hide your conscience
So you're a sinking ship with no place to go.
Slow rivers run cold,
Shallow waters never sank so low.
I thought i'd drown and you'd never know,
You're a slow river and you run so cold.

The Quiet One
Everybody calls me the quiet one
You can see but you cant hear me
Everybody calls me the quiet one
You can try but you cant get near me
I aint never had the gift of gab
But I cant talk with my eyes
When words fail me you wont nail me
My eyes can tell you lies
Still waters run deep so be careful I dont drown you
Youve got nothing to hear Ive got nothing to say
Sticks and stones may break your bones
But names can never down you
It only takes two words to blow you away
Everybody calls me the quiet one
But you just dont understand
You cant listen you wont hear me
With your head stuck in the sand
I aint never had time for words that dont rhyme
My headd is in a cloud
I aint quiet - everybody else is too loud
Still waters run deep so be careful I dont drown you
Youve got nothing to hear Ive got nothing to say
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But names can never down you
It only takes two words to blow you away.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters
When You're Weary Feelin' Small
When Tears Are In Your Eyes I Will Dry Them All
I'm On Your Side Oh When Times Get Rough
And Friends Just Can't Be Found
Like A Bridge Over Troubled Waters
I Will Lay Me Down
Like A Bridge Over Troubled Waters
I Will Lay Me Down
When You're Down And Out When You're On The Street
When Evening Falls So Hard I Will Comfort You
I'll Take Your Part Oh When Darkness Comes
And Pain Is All Around
Like A Bridge Over Troubled Waters
I Will Lay Me Down
Like A Bridge Over Troubled Waters
I Will Lay Me Down
Sail On Children Sail On By
Your Time Has Come To Shine All Their Dreams Are On Their Way
See How They Shine Oh When You Need A Friend
I'm Sailing Right Behind
Like A Bridge Over Troubled Waters
I Will Ease Your Mind
Like A Bridge Over Troubled Waters
I Will Ease Your Mind
I'll Ease Your Mind

Swim upcurrent
