Jesus Or Barabbas?

Barabbas stood before the crowd,
Then Pontius Pilate spoke,
'One freed prisoner I'm allowed! '
And yet it was no joke.
The King rejected was Jesus,
Still crowned with bloodied thorns.
Then they selected Barabbas,
From whom all hatred spawns.

The Nazarene was led away,
To climb Golgotha's hill...
Barabbas didn't choose to stay
To watch another kill.
He'd seen enough of Roman death
And vowed revenge and more
And yet Jesus of Nazareth
Was so hard to ignore...

A trail of blood led to the Cross...
And there God's Son was nailed...
And though divine, He stayed because
God's faith in Him prevailed.
His Mother, Mary, mourned and mourned
As hours slowly passed...
And while the wicked scorned and scorned,
The sky was overcast.

In twilight now, as darkness fell,
A faithful thief thought twice.
When Jesus rescued him from Hell,
He promised Paradise.
That very day, as Jesus said,
Both souls would soon depart
And just to check if Christ was dead,
They pierced Him through the heart.

But God was faithful to His Son...
Christ left His shroud behind!
Through Easter, we know Christ has won
Salvation for Mankind!
Forgiveness granted through God's plan!
Christ's blood has proved enough!
Behold the Cross! Behold the Man!
Behold the King of Love...

The Quest For The Cross!

A dream from nowhere came to me,
I dreamt I searched for Calvary!
I walked along God's streets of old!
I saw God's Temple crowned in gold!
I watched the Romans, Gentiles, Jews.
Barabbas? Jesus? They must choose!
They choose Barabbas! Christ must die!
The wicked cried out, 'Crucify! '
'No, no! ' I shouted, 'Leave Him be! '
The Lord looked up, then looked at me.
A loving smile adorned His face,
Yet He must die to take my place,
For I have sinned and know this well,
Without Christ's Blood I'd go to Hell.
I followed Jesus to the Hill.
They pierced Him, made His Blood to spill.
Beneath the Cross I wept and wept
All through the night my body slept.
Yet with the miracle of dawn,
I rose from sleep, at peace, reborn!

The Day The Devil Lost

The Devil tried his level best
The day that Jesus died,
But even he was so hard pressed,
Temptations every side...
The multitude had swayed like corn
From love to fear then hate,
To see Lord Jesus so forlorn,
As if no longer great...

The evidence against Him stood,
Yet witnesses were mixed,
But finally they did no good,
As if their words were fixed...
When Pilate met the beaten Lord
He saw no victory,
Nor was the crowd as overawed...
Barabbas was set free...

The Devil then had no way out
Unless Christ wavered now,
Yet Jesus walked beyond their doubt,
His crown upon His brow...
The Cross was now His sacrifice,
Would Jesus die or not?
Would Jesus falter and think twice
Or just submit to God?

The hours left yet Jesus stayed,
No angels to appear,
No rescue bid as Christ obeyed
Till death was oh so near...
His Blood fell down upon the Earth
As Jesus paid sins' cost,
The day the Saviour proved His worth...
The day the Devil lost...

The Belief Of A Thief

Behold the cruel cross of Christ!
Two lost souls balanced there!
But only one thief realised
Christ was beyond compare!
Consider three men hoisted high,
Secured, nowhere to go...
Yet Jesus knew why He must die
And why He suffered so...

Behold the Man, the Son of God,
Whom Judas had betrayed,
The Saviour, Jesus, shedding blood
For sinners who had strayed...
Good Shepherd dying for His sheep,
Indeed, the Sinners' Friend,
While John and Mary vigil keep,
Until the very end!

Behold the crowd at safety's length,
Accepting what was done
And witness to the fading strength
Of victims one-by-one...
Yet suddenly, one thief had faith,
Beyond this deadly hour,
When He asked Jesus Christ to save,
Acknowledging His power!

'Remember me, when You receive
Your Kingdom when You die! '
Lord Jesus said, 'This day we leave...
To Paradise, we fly! '
Like them, we know that death is near,
Yet Heaven waits above!
The Gospel Truth is crystal clear...
In Christ, the King of Love!

The Ultimate Symbol Of Love

The ultimate symbol of love
Must be the Cross of Christ,
Upon which He was held above
And for sin sacrificed...
The Lamb Of God shed holy blood,
He bled to set us free
And Easter tells us of that flood,
The love of Calvary...
Consider Christ, arms held outstretched
And His head crowned with thorns,
Upon His back, the whips had etched
And now His Mother mourns...
Disciple John must care for her
As Jesus takes His leave,
Though Sunday morning He will stir,
He knows that she will grieve...
One thief believed Christ was a king
And asked, 'Remember me...'
New hope within Christ's heart would spring,
Then came His prophecy,
'Today with Me in Paradise...'
He promised to that man
And soon the Saviour paid the price
And thus fulfilled God's Plan...
You see, Christ died to save the lost...
God raised Him from the dead!
For only He could pay the cost
Sin held above each head...
Behold the Christ, the King of Love,
Who proved He was God's Son...
That's why each sinner looks above,
In awe of what He's done...

Today... 'Christ the King of Israel

Rejected and spurned they just would not receive
Him as Christ the king and they did not believe.
but there they crucified Him upon that hill
and platted a crown of thorns mocking Him still.

Reviling him they began to rant and rave.
'He saved others but Himself He cannot save'
All those that had preferred Barabbas instead.
'Let Him descend down now from the cross, ' they said.

We hear the God of heaven look down and say
'My King reigns upon My holy hill this day.'
For Jesus Christ is the King of Israel
and the King of all other nations as well.

Good Friday...

Behold the wood that went to make the cross
That bore the Saviour Lord, King Jesus Christ:
The holy cross at Calvary on which
Was hung, the Redeemer of mankind race!

That man was only Son of God in flesh,
Who suffered, shed His precious blood as price
For every sin of everyone on earth,
Of Adam and of Eve in lineage!

It wasn’t about the cross that Jesus bore;
It was about the One who hung on it!
He came to earth as Mary’s baby boy,
And gave to men the Good News, peace and joy!

The cross of wood assumed significance
When Jesus died upon it for our sins;
The sacrifice supreme was love of God
For creature man of clay whom He had made!

When Christ resurrected upon third day,
And won o’er death and satan for all times,
The holy cross became the weapon sole
That scares away the devils back to hell!

The cross became the symbol of Christians,
Reminding man of Salvation for all,
As Christ had paid the price on our behalf,
And turned to be the Truth, Light, Way to God!

The holy cross beckons each one of us
To take up each one’s cross and follow Christ;
It is the only hope for all mankind
As life on earth becomes so meaningful!

God’s Love was born on Christmas day as Christ!
Man’s sins nailed Him to death upon the cross!
Christ’s obeisance to Father freed mankind
If repentant, from Fiery Pit of hell!

Reflect on passions Christ had undergone,
Before He died upon the holy cross;
Follow His teachings and precepts for man;
Heaven is nigh for sinners penitent!

Shrouded In Mystery

A haunting feeling filled the crowd
As from His cross He left.
God's Son was wrapped within His shroud
By friends who were bereft.
Who knows how many teardrops fell
From family and friends?
For them, this day was their farewell
And where His story ends.
How could they know He would return?
They saw Him crucified!
They saw His body twist and turn...
His last breath when He died.
They saw Him pierced, then speared as proof
That He was dead indeed...
They sadly mourned the tragic truth
For that's how dead men bleed...
The tomb was guarded day and night,
To thwart the prophecies.
There was no miracle in sight,
Just morbid memories.
But God was faithful to His word!
The world changed there and then!
New life within Christ's body stirred...
Like He was born again!
Think not that God despised His Son
Who suffered shame and loss!
In death, Christ proved He was the One
Made perfect through the cross!
Salvation's love like blood poured out,
So we could go to Heaven!
Through Jesus Christ, have faith, not doubt!
YOU, TOO, CAN BE FORGIVEN!

Cross Examined

Of all the trees God ever made, one tree was set apart,
For on that tragic tree was laid the Saviour's beating heart...
The tree would lift the Lord on high upon that fateful day,
When Jesus Christ was meant to die, to take Man's sins away...

And there He was before the crowd, who mocked Him to His face,
As God prepared for Him a shroud when taken from that place...
Golgotha was its awful name, the hill the skull was seen,
That was its only claim to fame... except the Nazarene...

Upon the Cross a sign was nailed which vainly called Him king,
Yet to that crowd, the Lord had failed to change a single thing.
The Romans ruled, so no change there, the Jews were merely slaves
And Jesus Christ was lost in prayer, before His death He braves.

One thief believed, the rest did not, why trust in Paradise?
Christ said He was the way to God, the holy sacrifice.
His hour came, He breathed His last, they took His body down.
The crowd departed still aghast, while I picked up His crown...

It fell to me, and how I wept... His Blood still on each briar.
That night I prayed, I never slept, for hatred turned to fire.
They beat Him up, they scourged His back, they nailed Him high above
And even then, when all looked black, He prayed for them with love.

I mourned for days, then heard it said, the Saviour was alive!
Yet still I prayed beside my bed, for how could He survive?
The rumours went from street to street as if from friend to friend.
Such that each person I would meet hoped this was not the end...

I'll wait and see... I'll follow John and James and Peter, too.
If true, I'll tell you later on... Till then what can I do?

Happy Easter 2012

The tomb of stone's empty!
Christ Jesus has risen,
On day three after death,
Just as He had foretold!

His death on cross was sad;
Even the sun didn't shine;
And earth shuddered awhile,
As corpses came alive!

Jesus was Truth and Light;
The dark tomb couldn't contain
Christ who's Light of the world;
Death could never prevail.

The Good Shepherd, He bore
Our every cross and sin;
The spotless lamb got slain
To save man from ruin!

What obeisance, Christ showed!
His Father was so pleased;
His heart was always moved
By love, His son had proved.

Good that Jesus rose then;
Our faith has stood the test;
Like Christ, we all can rise;
If sinless, reach heaven!

Jesus had crushed satan;
The body dies but then
Resurrection is true,
As soul and body meet.

By Christmas, Christ was born;
Through Easter, Christ died, rose;
In glory, He will come
As God and King and judge!

Easter gives man new hope;
The righteous can see God;
Jesus has paid the price
For every sin of man!

Jesus Christ: A Philosophy Of Enlightenment

Jesus Of Nazareth lead no armies in conquest
slaughtered no enemies with blood red hands
conquered no border sovereign nations in wars
declared my kingdom is no part of this world
Jesus Christ raised the dead cast out demons

healed the blind preformed many miracles
awaited birth ministry death and resurrection

Who is this Jewish Yeshua the famous Jesus Christ?
Is Jesus Of Nazareth the promised Messiah of Israel?
Is Jesus Christ the Son of God as his disciples claimed?
Did the word become flesh incarnate die for our sins?
After approximately two thousand years still worshipped?

Was Jesus God willingly born manifest in human form?
How can one God be a Holy Trinity three unique persons?
Were multiple messianic prophecies fulfilled by Jesus Christ?
If Jesus is God why would he willingly die a horrible death?
If Jesus died on a criminal cross then how was he resurrected?

Is Jesus the only king who will rule his kingdom for eternity?

I Survived... Beyond And Back

When my death came, I mourned my loss... and yet what could be done?
But suddenly I saw The Cross and Jesus Christ, God's Son...
I stared at Him a long, long while, above the ground below,
Where Jesus walked the second mile with warm blood still in flow...

Lord Jesus bled from hair and head, from back and hands and feet,
Till suddenly God's Son was dead, His sacrifice complete...
And in that second, I screamed out, enraged despite my grief
And in the crowd I ran about in utter disbelief...

They let Him die, they saw it all, they made me mad as Hell!
As if He were their spectacle and they were in a spell...
A sword appeared in my left hand, a voice said, 'Kill, kill, kill! '
Yet God made me to understand that Christ obeyed His will...

The sword fell down upon the ground as I gasped in surprise,
To see my King with thorns now crowned above His blood-stained eyes.
I trembled as my rage still burned, then fell down to my knees...
Here was the Saviour they had spurned despite His Mother's pleas...

I heard God's voice bid me depart and I went back to Earth
And there I wept with broken heart as if Man had no worth...
As if we all should go to Hell, no mercy to us shown,
As if we all should say farewell to all the joys we've known...

Somehow I slept, no more to weep, right there upon the floor,
Yet God gave me a dream to keep, to share for evermore...
I saw lost souls, so dark, depraved, a billion spared by Christ,
For by His blood their souls were saved when life was sacrificed...

And only then did my rage leave, as precious peace took hold,
With no more reason left to grieve through what I saw unfold...
God's mysteries remain as His, they last eternally,
As long as we know who Christ is... The King of Calvary...

The poem is based on the Biography Channel
which has shared the life stories of some who
died yet came back with accounts of Heaven
and some of Hell. In this poem, I'm exploring
how someone responds to the death of Jesus.
Initial rage is based upon human understanding.
God's Word reveals His eternal plan of salvation.
Whether we will accept near death experiences,
dreams, visions, prophecy or poetry, we are
meant to accept God's Word, the Holy Bible.

Love Not Judge

The Lord wants not to judge us; God simply desires to love us.
He sent His Son for you and me, to a bloody hill called Calvary.
God had sent Jesus to that cross, for sinful men who were lost,
Where Jesus Christ died for all, taking the judgment for our fall.

He wants not to take your life, but give you one in Jesus Christ,
Who didn’t come to punish you, but to give you a life that’s new.
The reason why Christ was sent, was to receive our punishment.
On the cross Christ’s punishment, was in place of our judgment.

The Lord above is a Loving God, but His justice demands a rod,
One against the darkness of sin, and all enemies opposing Him.
Christ left His Eternal Light, to oppose the darkness of the night.
Christ had died for you and me, for us to live with God eternally.

It was God who loved us first, and in Christ offered us New Birth,
When we were but sinful dust, He had sent His Son to die for us.
And through His Son Jesus Christ, sinners go from death to life,
For at the time that God sent Him, we were still dead in our sin.

God will save you from all your sin, if you will only let Christ in,
If you let Christ into your heart, you will have a brand new start.
Then you will not fear His Rod, when you make Him your God,
You will instead reign with Him, when He judges death and sin.

Praise The Cross Of Jesus

Today I praise the cross of Jesus, where He died and bled for me.
For on that very cross of Jesus, His bloody death has set me free.
Christ came to die for all of us, upon that bloody cross of Calvary.
And upon Him I place my trust, from this day through all Eternity.

It was upon the cross of Christ, that He came to die so I could live.
Christ came to offer to us His life, the gift His Father chose to give.
Jesus came to be our sacrifice, so that all our sins God will forgive.
It is through the blood of Jesus Christ, that I can now eternally live.

Nothing was done on my part, but to accept Christ and to believe.
Christ even moved upon my heart, with The Spirit that I received.
New Life in me He would start, the life The Spirit would conceive.
And for me, a message to impart, for New Life you must believe.

You must believe in Jesus Christ, who came to save you and me.
He sent The Spirit into this strife, to give us eyes so we could see,
That Jesus came to give men life, so that they could live eternally.
This life is found in Jesus Christ, and is from the blood of Calvary.

Friend, there is only but one name, that men can lift up and raise,
For no common man can claim, any credit and seek men’s praise.
No man’s glory and or fame, can compare to The Ancient of Days.
And Jesus Christ is the only name, that by all men will be praised.

Let love of Jesus Christ…

Let love of Jesus Christ
Goad you to spread the Word
Across the world to all
And gather souls for God.

Let love of Jesus Christ
Help you to sacrifice
Your life to follow Him
On the road to heaven.

Let love of Jesus Christ
Make you carry your cross
And walk in the footsteps
Of Christ to Calvary.

Let love of Jesus Christ
Serve to encounter Him
In miraculous ways
Reinforcing your faith.

Let love of Jesus Christ
Help you to realize
The aim of earthly life
Is keeping soul sinfree.

Let love of Jesus Christ
Help you to sing and pray

Close To Jesus

Close to Jesus, so few have been, yet with their stories told,
Through these we see the Nazarene, the Saviour to behold...
From birth to death and far beyond, God's Son has proved His worth
And thus, to Him, we each respond, while we live on this Earth...
Of those we know, some prophets shared what they perceived of Christ,
At whom the disbelievers stared the day He was baptised...
Yet John the Baptist spoke the truth, 'Behold the Lamb of God! '
Though just to them, He seemed a youth, for these, He shed His Blood!

To think, He healed the sick He met and those then brought to Him,
Forgiving sins that caused regret, for guilt can make us grim...
The multitudes were like lost sheep, each one had lost his way,
When God's commands they wouldn't keep, He taught them how to pray.
But while His fame was widely known, disciples came and went,
Until Saint Peter stood alone and called Him Heaven-sent...
'You are the Christ, God's promised Son! No other can we seek!
You speak the words, then deeds are done that make You quite unique! '
Though Peter knew the truth full well, the Saviour he denied!
Three times he lied and wouldn't tell, with Christ soon crucified...

Through John and Mary's eyes we see the Saviour lifted high,
The Lamb of God met Calvary... His destiny... to die...
It didn't end with mortal death, as one would first assume
Behold Jesus of Nazareth, not bound by any tomb!
God raised Him up from Death's embrace, from Hell to Heaven's Throne!
Through Him, receive God's perfect grace... Believe in Christ alone.
His Blood can cleanse and make us whole, for He makes all things new!
Let Jesus in to save your soul... Let Him come close to you...

Bible in Poetry: Gospel of St. Mark (Chapter 15)

As morning came, the whole Sanhedrin crowd-
Chief priests, elders and scribes, held a council;
They bound and handed him o’er to Pilate;
When Pilate asked, “Are you the king of Jews? ”
He said to him in reply, “You say so! ”
The chief priests accused Him of many things;
And Pilate asked Him, “Have you an answer?
How many things they accuse you of, Look! ”
But Pilate was amazed as He didn’t talk.

They used to free a prisoner on feast days.
A murderer called Barabbas was brought in
From prison with rebels, for murder crimes;
The crowd pressed Pilate do as was custom;
Pilate asked, “Shall I free the ‘King of Jews’? ”
He knew the chief priests had envy on Him.

They made the crowd to free just Barabbas.
“What should I do with Jesus? ” asked Pilate.
They shouted together, “Crucify Him.”
“What evil has this man done? asked Pilate.
They shouted still loudly, “Crucify Him.”
Pilate freed the murderer, Barabbas.

He ordered Jesus to be scourged and led;
The soldiers took Him to the praetorium;
In purple clothed, a crown of thorns was placed,
Atop His head and they saluted Him,
“Hail, king of Jews and struck his head by reed.”

They spat on Him, knelt as if in homage:
They mocked at Him and stripped Him off his cloak;
They dressed Him in his own clothes and led Him.
A Cyrenian passer-by, Simon
Was made to help Him to carry the cross;
They brought him to Golgotha, ‘Place of skull’!

They gave Him wine with myrrh which He didn’t take;
They cast lots for his clothes; crucified Him,
At nine o’clock in the morning that day.
‘The King of Jews’ was inscribed on the cross.
Two robbers too were crucified with Him.

Some passed by Him and said, “The man who said
He would destroy the temple and rebuild
In three days’ time. Save yourself and come down”
Let Messiah come down from cross alive,
So that we may believe He’s king of Jews!

At noon, the land was covered by darkness
Till three in the afternoon, when He died.
He cried aloud, “Eloi, Eloi, lema
Sabachthani, meaning, ‘my God, my God,
Why hast thou forsaken me in this way? ”
Some by-standers said, “He calls Elijah! ”

One soaked a sponge in vinegar and held
It up to Him to drink, upon a reed.
Jesus uttered a loud cry, breathed His last.
The veil of sanctuary was torn in two.
A centurion who witnessed how he died
Remarked, “Truly, this was the Son of God! ”

Some women stood looking from a distance;
Mary Magdalene and Mary were there;
They’d followed Him from Galilee slowly.
Some women came from Jerusalem too.
When evening came, the day before Sabbath,
Joseph of Arimathea met Pilate
And requested for Jesus’ body!

But Pilate was amazed that He had died;
Joseph brought linen cloth and wrapped Him up.
They laid Him in a tomb hewn out of rock!
A stone was rolled across the entrance then.
Both Marys watched where Jesus’ body lay!

They Knew Him Not

Jesus came and they knew Him not, this my friend did cast their lot.
For Jesus was The One to come, The One foretold as David’s Son.
But God’s chosen people Israel, could not see that Christ did fulfill,
Ancient prophecies told by God, and soon will rule with an iron rod.

He was Light they couldn’t see; the Davidic promise destined to be.
He did preach on Israel’s sod, pointing men to the Kingdom of God.
From the Scriptures, He even read, but to a people spiritually dead.
He stayed with His people though, as the one they needed to know.

But Israel, God’s chosen Nation, was obstinate to God’s Salvation.
Instead the leaders plotted to kill, God’s Son, to appease their will.
In their blindness they’d fulfill, God’s Eternal plan on Calvary’s Hill.
As Christ was mocked and scorned, like prophets had forewarned.

Christ was pierced for me and you, and for the Nation of Israel too.
They will see the One they pierced, although for them it isn’t clear.
They’ll be filled with supplication, as God moves His chosen nation,
Then one-third will turn to Him, when Jesus cleanses them from sin.

Until then, God has turned to us, the Gentiles who believe and trust,
Through faith, He’ll return again, bringing Salvation to believing men.
Christ left us a witness as the Light, to come to God before the night.
How much more can you afford, to ignore that witness of The Lord?

Today... 'Jesus Christ the Nazarene

The greatest Man to walk this scene
is Jesus Christ the Nazarene.
Son of God and Son of Man
there before the world began.

The kindest Man that's ever been
is Jesus Christ the Nazarene.
He walked on water healed the lame
climbed the hill to bear our shame.

The purest Man Who was so clean
is Jesus Christ the Nazarene.
He lived a life of righteousness
sought only to heal and to bless.

The most worthy Man ever seen
is Jesus Christ the Nazarene.
Exalted in the heavens now
every knee to Him shall bow.

The Cross Jesus Chose

Why on the cross did Jesus choose to die such a wicked death?
And why did He say, 'It is finished' as he breathed His final breath?

How was the temple curtain from the top to the bottom totally rent?
Was Christ the true Messiah whom the Prophets said would be sent?

God's righteous wrath on the cross was really meant for you and I,
But Christ took our punishment as His Father's anger was satisfied.

Not only on the cross did Christ die in the place of you and I,
But through His Blood on the cross, in God's eyes we are justified.

Christ cried, 'It is finished' as Salvation for all was now complete.
Returning to His Glory, at His Father's right hand, He took His Seat.

Yes that day was special, as after the curtain was rent it did fall,
Jesus Christ created total access to not only one nation, but to all.

The cross has been unequaled, as it was God's Grace that they saw,
For Christ was sent for all men, to be the fulfillment of the Law.

Yes, it was The Messiah on the cross, who suffered and truly died,
But the grave could not hold him, for in three days He rose Glorified.

God also gave us two examples that day and both were at his side,
One chose to believe in Jesus while the other just mocked and died.

You can choose to simply die my friend, but you'll suffer forevermore,
Or believe like the thief my friend and live eternally with The Lord.

God's Only Way

As we journey through each day, we need to point men to The Way,
To the only way of hope for all; to God’s redemption from man’s fall.
Christ came into a world condemned; to bring God’s Truth to all men.
In this world, all have sinned, and God’s redemption is found in Him.

Christ spoke to men with authority, as He spoke to them of Eternity.
Many men were amazed at Christ, as Jesus spoke about New Life.
Life that goes beyond this earth, a life men receive upon New Birth.
In Christ we become Born Again, to enter into a life that has no end.

Jesus Christ is the Creator of all, a perfect creation before man’s fall.
Jesus came to this earth my friend, to become the Savior of all men.
Jesus Christ is God’s Only Son, who died on the cross for everyone.
And the blood He shed that day, confirmed that He is The Only Way.

For Christ is God’s only Salvation, not for one, but for every nation.
Only Jesus Christ died at Calvary, for all the sin of both you and me.
And the message we must herald, He died for the sin of all the world.
God had paid the ultimate price, by sending His Son as our sacrifice.

Friend, only Jesus Christ rose again, this to offer New Life to all men.
And only through Jesus Christ, can all men experience Eternal Life.
For only Christ died and rose again, to become the Savior of all men.
Soon Christ the Eternal Creator, is coming back as Lord and Savior.
