Create A Better World!

A little kindness now and then,
An act of charity
And later give as good again,
For God alone to see
A pleasant word some heart to bless,
A poem or a song,
A tender thought meant to express
That we on Earth belong

A birthday card, a Christmas card,
Some greetings to relay
To someone held in high regard
Upon some special day
A 'Get well soon! ' can mean so much
Because somebody cares
And simply wants to stay in touch
To say, 'God hears our prayers! '

It's not that hard to prove your love,
Or kindle it once more,
Not just for simply buying stuff,
As if it were a chore
Consideration, that's the key,
Of that, there's not much doubt
Let's change the world through poetry
And spread the word about!

On Not Sending Christmas Cards

Dear Friends –
for friends you are, and friends
you will remain –

I’m not sending any cards this year –
so of course, I do not deserve to receive any,
by the human law of tit for tat…

So if you’re sending me a card
because you sent me one last year
and think I’ll notice if you don’t -
don’t bother.

If you’re sending me a card
just because I sent you one last year-
I don’t want it. Just don’t bother..

If you’re sending me a card
because we haven’t seen each other all the year,
maybe we should arrange to meet? Or
maybe we simply haven’t anything more
to say to each other?
Maybe we’re happier leaving it that way?
Don’t bother with a card..

If you're sending me a card
because - it's part of Chrismas fun -
and open hearts, and memories -
then, bless us every one...

If you’re sending me a card
because you never sent one before
and feel the urge – I’ll be delighted;
and if you don’t get one in return –
rest assured, that I’ll remember, and
we’ll probably soon meet;
and know: you have enrolled yourself
as my friend, anyway,
by that warming thought..

If you’re sending me a card
because you have me so deep
implanted in your heart
that your love for me is beyond a printed word –
then that’s the way that I reciprocate your love,
how could I not? Just don’t expect mere words –

though there’s a chance
a poem may wing its way one day
as whitest swans and downy doves
know in the air and space above
their heart’s true home..

for, if ever, for however short a time
you were my friend, or I to you – you are that
always. Always. This
is what the heart is for.

Give Love On A Christmas Day

people making lists, buying special gifts,
It's a time to be kind to one and all
It's that time of year when good friends are dear
And you wish you could give more
Than just presents from a store
Why don't you give love on christmas day (on christmas day)
Oh even the man who has everything
Would be so happy if you would bring
Him love on christmas day (on christmas day)
No greater gift is there than love
People you don't know smiling out hello
Everywhere there's an air of christmas joy
It's that once a year, when the world's sincere
And you'd like to find a way
To show the things that words can't say
Why don't you give love on christmas day (on christmas day)
The man on the street and the couple upstairs
All need to know that there's one cares
Give love on christmas day (christmas day)
No greater gift is there than love
What the world needs is love
Yes the world needs your love
Why don't you give love on christmas day (on christmas day)
Oh every little child on santa's knee
Has room for your love underneath his tree
Give love on christmas day (christmas day)
No greater gift is there than love
What the world needs is love
Yes the world needs your love
Give love on christmas day (christmas day) ...

Wonderful Christmas Time

Simply having a Wonderful Christmas Time
A Wonderful Christmas Time
A Wonderful Christmas Time
Mood is right
Spirits up
We're here tonight
And that's enough
Simply havng a Wonderful Christmas Time
Simply having a Wonderful Christmas Time
The party's on
The feeling here
It's all because
This time of year
Simply having a Wonderful Christmas Time
Simply having a Wonderful Christmas Time
A Wonderful Christmas Time
A Wonderful Christmas Time
The choir of children
Singing their song
Ding dong
Ding dong
Ding dong
Ding dong
They practice
All night long
Ding dong
Ding dong
Ding dong
Ding dong
The word is out
About the town
To lick your glass
I don't doubt
Simply having a Wonderful Christmas Time
Simply having a Wonderful Christmas Time
Mood is right
Spirits up
We're here tonight
And that's enough
Simply having a Wonderful Christmas Time

On Receiving A Christmas Card From Nora

A Christmas card from a friend far away
It takes me back again to boyhood day
She was a woman when I was young boy
Some forty years ago how time does fly.

She was a good friend to our family
And nice to know she still remember me
A friend and neighbour of the very best
And one of the kindest souls of Millstreet West.

That Christmas card from Nora took me far away
Back home to Millstreet Town and Claraghatlea
And Christmas was a special time of year
A time of Santa, Christmas fun and cheer.

A Christmas card from friend of years ago
And no friend like old friend we used to know
And a card from dear friend is a gift of joy
And it took me back to when I was a boy.

The Purpose Of Poetry

When first Man strove his thoughts to form,
New words became his goal,
Expressing hot and cold and warm
And spirit, body, soul
And heart and mind and conscience, too,
His dreams and his extremes
And ever-changing points of view
Turned into reams and reams...

From papyrus to paper size,
From words etched into stone,
Are truths writ there before our eyes
And laws that must be known...
As writers scratched their inky quills,
Inventors thought ahead
And simply by their thinking skills
Came fountain pens instead...

Computers came, both good and bad,
At our own risk, take care...
Keep saving all those rhymes we had,
Or they're lost in thin air...
But when they're saved and shared abroad,
Just think what's been acquired...
By some new special train of thought
The world could be inspired...

Thus poetry is in our hands,
Our heartfelt legacy,
Through which the whole world understands
Each psalm God caused to be...
Each birthday card that wishes well
With rhymes of fondest love,
Beguiles us with its magic spell,
As if from God above...

From hymns to pop songs day-by-day,
The world is made aware
That poetry is here to stay
With wondrous words to share...
Be thankful, then, for precious prose,
For favourites old and new,
With hidden secrets that God knows
And prophecies for you...

Stuff

The realization has just fallen:
Her birthday card to me has been
Hidden on my desk-that
Cluttered mess of books and stuff (count: I) -
And since last August I forgot
That it was there.

[Over time, I oft overlook the opus words that
Make life more marvelous, less mundane.]

Have I been too worried with myself? Does she mind
My mind still figuring, still learning stuff (count: II) ?
The craft card on my desktop counter
Sits still. It is opened, words re-read.
And 'til next August,
There it rests.

As always,
Every word is a delight.

16th Birthday Poem

your birthday has come,
its hear at last,
o good shot of rum,
to remember the past

Your sixteen now,
oh how time shall fly,
you will live much longer,
to see it nigh,

the thought, of a memory
a memory of old,
but to remember this thought,
it must be bold

so i write you this poem
give you this card
so you remember me,
your fine singing bard

happy birthday to you
say it loud for all to know,
becuase your sixteenth birthday,
there are never two!

New Year's Sentiment

this love is not what it needs to be,
no flowers or candy or romance for me,
spending special days alone
waiting by the telephone

i'm told you love me oh so true,
but what in the world is love to you
being a man is no excuse
for letting my heart hang so loose

you say just wait the time will come,
i've waited and you have not thrown a crumb
all i wanted was some small token
a card or letter or soft word spoken

but then he came with words so new
with romance and kindness we never knew
and try though he might to turn my head
i still held on to what you said

now here it is this new years eve,
you and your friends about to leave
you think I'm at home with a tear in my eye
hell no, I'm with the other guy...

Things You Say

Oh baby oh baby yeah yeah yeah
Such a pleasure loving you
It's all mine

I feel better knowing you
Ooh you've got me thinking
It's better to give and take
I don't have to beg you too
You're so good to me
Carries me from day to day
I appreciate the things you do
Ooh but there's one thing I had to tell you boy
I dig your actions
But a lot of things you say

I listen to the things you say
Who you're calling me oh oh
I listen to the things you say
To me baby
In a poem on a card
Serenade my heart
I listen to the things you say
Who you're calling me oh oh
I listen to the things you say
To me baby
In a card of a song
Say my name please

Lovely letters come at times I know I don't deserve it
Any weather you'll come through
Ooh you've got me gleaming
I feel more than I worth
You're my treasure
I'll take you
Over anything
That's pleasing on this earth
I appreciate the things you do
But there's one thing I had to tell you boy
I dig your actions
But I love your words

[Chorus]

Every word that you say
Makes a day much brighter
Melody that you play
I hear by the way and the love is lighter
Speak to me

[Chorus]

I Thought To Begin The Day With A Poem

I THOUGHT TO BEGIN THE DAY WITH A POEM

I thought to begin the day with a poem
But inside myself I hear only my own slow emptiness
Word by word I try to hear
And there is some small motion now
But still
A real poem
A poem of beauty
A poem of light
A poem of love
A poem that makes the dreamer long to dream-
And the lover long to love-
A poem that moves-

Well it is very very dark outside
And the world straining to give
Small rain to a dry land
Seems to say,

‘There may be a poem today
But it is not the poem you dream
Not the poem others will love
As you have loved
True poetry.’

Last Christmas (Pudding Mix) (feat. Wham!)

(CHORUS)
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, You gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, You gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance but you still catch my eye
Tell me baby do you recognise me?
Well it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me
(Happy Christmas!) I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I Love You" I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now I know you'd fool me again
(CHORUS)
(Oooh. Oooh Baby)
A crowded room, friends with tired eyes
I'm hiding from you and your soul of ice
My God I thought you were someone to rely on
Me? I guess I was a shoulder to cry on
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man undercover but you tore me apart
Oooh Oooh
Now I've found a real love you'll never fool me again
(CHORUS)
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
(Gave you my heart)
A man undercover but you tore me apart
Next year
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
special
someone
someone
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
who'll give me something in return
I'll give it to someone
hold my heart and watch it burn
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
I've got you here to stay
I can love you for a day
I thought you were someone special
gave you my heart
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone
last christmas I gave you my heart
you gave it away
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone

I Wanted A Poem/But There Was No Poetry In Me

I WANTED A POEM/ BUT THERE WAS NO POETRY IN ME

I wanted a poem
But there was no poetry in me
I said to myself from outside,
‘Write the feeling of a song'
But I had no song within me-

Poetry did not flow
No music moved me
I was alone with a Mind
That had no heart or song-

And then I writing
Simply tried to listen to myself
And what I heard
Was these awkward non- poetic lines
That make a poem
Which is not true poetry
And yet here now
proclaims its own rhythm as this page.

If You Forget Me

If you forget me

Who ever you are?

It will mean nothing to me

Who will go on living

Having forgotten the purpose

To a life

That drags heavy footed

Through grey streets

If you forget me

Just remember,

I have already forgotten

You,

And if you remember this,

Please remind me,

So that I will stop posting you

A christmas card

Whoever you are,

We who are strangers

Who go on living

Because we have forgotten

The pointlessness to our lives

Or why we wear sensible shoes

At a certain age

Or why some eat cereal

While others go empty into the morning

Why where how?

If you forget me

Remember to remind me that,

I have already forgotten you

Then I promise to stop sending you a christmas card

Or wishing you a happy new year

And if I have forgotten that you who are living

Have died and are now dead,

Then forgive me for sending you all those post cards

Without a return to sender

I may have simply forgotten to read the small print

On the invite card

Or maybe it rained

or I had a cold

Or was too busy forgetting the day of the week

And the pointlessness to my existence

Which when forgotten

Along with you, my friend,

Is less bleak

Infact it is quite pleasant

Okay

So let's just forget the whole miserable affair, okay?

What Was Christmas For?

What was Christmas truly for, as on the Season we close that door?
As a New Year for all starts, and the Christmas Season now departs.
Does the Christmas spirit depart, from each and every human heart?
As Christmas trim is tucked away, will the spirit in some hearts stay?

Was Christmas truly meant for this, for once a year to change gifts?
Especially within the hearts of us, who in The Savior place our trust?
Shouldn’t Christmas that we know, be His Light in us for all to show,
The Truth and life we have in Him, who came to dwell forever within?

Should not Christmas be a song, we sing in our hearts all year long?
As in our hearts we joyfully sing, to Jesus Christ, our Lord and King.
A song which should never leave, the heart of those who do believe,
Saved by Grace from this world, with that Christmas Song to herald.

A song we sing all year through, as The Spirit moves in me and you,
To be a light men need each day, not just thought of Christmas day,
Song and light, throughout the year, which every man needs to hear,
This, so men may see their need, that God’s message they will heed.

Some men desire Christmas in July, but, did you ever question why?
A time when gifts aren’t bought at all; could it be music to their soul?
Maybe the songs that they heard, moved their hearts to God’s Word,
With a message, when not ignored, could draw any soul to The Lord.

Actually Some Poems Are Not Meant To Be Understood

forgive me but my poems are not meant to be understood
they are simply meant to be felt
like silk to your hands
just let the feeling slide and it is complete

it is just like a description of something that suddenly passed
you think it is a ghost but it is not
it is just the hush of a wind and it is not driving any point at all

if it refreshes you without thinking of anything at all
and gives you a certain lightness
like you have wings yourself
then the poem has become a poem

it is not meant to be an idea just something
magical and please do not hold it
it is simply meant
to pass and not stay like the wind and the river and
my soul

Words

Flowery words may tickle the ears; even delight the person who hears.
Flowery words are not what I choose, if you desire to just be amused.
For I am truly not a poet my friend, and poetry is not my ultimate end.
Poetry is simply my chosen venue, this to share God’s Truth with you.

The words of men who went before, these are the words I underscore.
They may not be the poet’s choice, but they echo that important voice,
That one who spoke words of Life, The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Words echoed today for you and I, and this long after our Savior died.

Words of Truth are what I impart, hoping to comfort or change a heart.
Changing souls one heart at a time, for this is Christ’s humble design.
His words are not meant to enthrall, but be a hope and comfort for all.
The words not meant to entertain, but address the issue of sin’s stain.

I will continue to write as I’m moved, for friend I have nothing to prove.
And friend you have nothing to lose, as it is His Truth that you choose.
His words of Truth are tried and true, the words that I share with you.
My friend, the end of each poem, for me, is one page closer to home.

It is simply a poem at the start, but then The Spirit moves in my heart,
And The Spirit’s words fill my pen, with The Savior’s hope for all men.
As I echo all these men of the past, it is a Hope that will eternally last.
When I enter my heavenly abode, a place above I’ll forever call Home.

Be My Valentine Jesus

Has anyone ever asked Jesus?
To be their Valentine?
I made a card just for Him
With a poem in which I’ve rhymed.

I could have done it in that normal verse
Written, ” Rose's are Red, Violet's Blue”
But I thought my dearest Savior Jesus
That I wanted to write something special, just for you.

I was going to cut the deepest of red paper
Into the shape of a GIANT red Valentine’s heart.
However, it didn’t seem like that was good enough
When I got my scissors out and tried to start.

Will you be my Valentine?
I would be so deeply honored if you would.
And I would be the envy of all my friends
To be seen, with a Valentine such as you.

Now you needn't send one on to me
For you’ve already given our world your heart.
Taking no concern of what your Father had in store for you
You knew your fate was pre-destined from its miraculous start.

To be born earth's King in a lowly manger
Then teaching those who would listen
Of your Father’s commanded word.
So a Valentine given to me, ” Dear Jesus? ”
Would just seem so wrong and too absurd.

Therefore, I’m asking you, 'Dearest Jesus'
Would you please be my, ”Valentine? ”
And I really hope you’ve enjoyed this cards poem
Written from my HEART, just for you, ' my Valentine'.

The Word

Say the word and you'll be free
Say the word and be like me
Say the word i'm thinking of
Have you heard the word is love?
It's so fine, it's sunshine
It's the word, love
In the beginning i misunderstood
But now i've got it, the word is good
Spread the word and you'll be free
Spread the word and be like be
Spread the work i'm thinking of
Have you heard the word is love?
It's so fine, it's sunshine
It's the word, love
Every where i go i hear it said
In the good and bad books that i have read
Give the word a chance to say
That the word is just the way
It's the word i'm thinking of
And the only word is love
It's so fine, it's sunshine
It's the word, love
Now that i know what i feel must be right
I'm here to show everybody the light
Say the word and you'll be free
Say the word and be like me
Say the word i'm thinking of

Charity

Charity, all the world really needs is charity
Were living in a dream
Ill plead with you all till it tears me apart.
Is this all that we want?
Is this all that we really are?
Turn away if you want, turn away if you like,
For the rest of your life, every day every night,
In your house and your car, yes I know who you are.
Can you not hear the world in its pain trying to call to you?
Oh, oh, charity, were living in a dream.
Charity, cant fool me with your vanity.
Ive seen whats in your heart.
Ill plead with you all till it tears me apart.
Is this all that we want?
Is this all that we really are?
Will our hearts ever change, does it sound so strange?
When people touch[? ] children cry, can you not wonder why?
In your own little world, can you not say a word?
Try to help someone else on this earth besides yourself.
Oh, oh, charity, were living in a dream.
Charity, cant fool me with your vanity.
Ive seen whats in your heart.
Charity, all the world really needs is charity.
Is this all that we want?
