praise the Lord (and lil' mangie)
Praise the Lord!
I’ve got a lil' dog with a bad case of mange
And here’s where my story starts getting strange
Had the ‘lil mangy dude out for a walk
When two Hispanic women started to gawk
They gave ‘lil mangy dude a long onceover
Saw in his mottled hide the face of Jehovah
Declared ‘lil mangy dude a sign from the lord
While ‘lil mangy and I thought they were out of their gourd
They followed me home and set up a shrine
Pretty soon the faithful started formin’ a line
I was set to go out and start kickin’ some ass
Until I noticed the money lying in the grass
Lil’ mangy and I weren’t gonna let this get by us
Suddenly seized by the spirit, we became real pious
Lil’ mangy and I feel exceptional zeal
While fervently praying…
His mange doesn’t heal

A Shih Tzu
It does seem to me a funny story though I cannot say if it is true
The one who told me not lacking in humor and that is to give him his due
'Tis one of those zoo sort of stories of how a man and his wife and their young son and daughter one sunday
Went to a small zoo in the suburbs from their home some five kilometres away
A warm afternoon in prime of Summer with only the slightest of breeze
The nesting songbirds chirped and whistled on the Parkland bushes and trees
The children they laughed in excitement a happy young girl and boy
Their zoo visit would be a highlight zoo visits most children enjoy
But the small zoo was a disappointment without birds and only one small dog there
A mangy dog who could do with brushing to remove the burs from his long hair
The father and mother of the children complained to the owner what sort of zoo is this supposed to be
We really think this is not funny since one mangy dog is all we can see
You certainly are not a zoo owner and this place it is not a zoo
But the owner he did seem offended saying read the sign on the gate a Shih Tzu.

Even a mangy camel will carry more that a herd of asses.
Is It The Station Of' The Lost and Lonely Soul…?
Where is the peace…?
In the whirring's of my mind,
Cartwheel after cartwheel
Even in these depths of rem sleep,
There is no slumber.
…Dreams come thick and fast:
As the snoring, begins its thunder…
Why, even now the world whistles
In the silence of this nightmare my lord
And even now, sleeping, hot-pulses
Race like a train, with a dead river
On board rolling through, empty-carriages.
O' now babies are being born …wailing
In my arms, awaiting, their mother.
'Lord what's this crazy station, called'?
Here where plastic surgeons…
Is working-out of' a dusty bivouac?
Doing, jigsaw body-part transplants.
With all these sights and sounds,
Now grinning, Lord, what are all these
Experimental insanities, for…?
O' am I just a mangy-dog running loose off the leash?
Where days blink-out of a bird-cage
O' here I see an albatross following me overhead.
O' lord, I call him my own Damien angel
But, lord he just walks-on the millet's of my life
Crushes it without morals, he's just a playful widow.
Making all kinds; of mischief with the living and dead.
'And, I'm just a red-flag, ready to fall…
Lord what's this crazy station, called'?
Am I just a mangy-dog running loose off your leash?
Listening to the silence; whistling endlessly mad.
Experimental insanities, whistling's endlessly mad like a thief.
In my head 'Lord what's this crazy station, called'?
Is it the station of' The Lost and Lonely Soul…?

Station Dog
The spirit of the place
lives inside the mangy body
of the station dog
doing penance for the last
three hundred years under
the tree of arrivals and departures
the dog opens his right eye
just long enough to look at and see
whether you're a man or a demigod
or the eight armed railway timetable come
to stroke him on the head
with a healing hand
and to take him to heaven
the dog decides
the day is not yet.

Adam And Eve
tonight you stooped to my level
i am your mangy little whore
you are trying to find your underwear
and then your socks and then the door
and you're trying to find a reason
why you have to leave
i know it's 'cuz you think you're adam
and you think i'm eve
you rhapsodize about beauty
and my eyes glaze
everything that i love is ugly
i mean really

Halloween revenge
Faithful Tiddles thrashes and drags in the remnants of his masters' broom
No mangy mouse to send her screaming from the room
Along with enchanted wand and oil of crusty toad
Ma'am prepares the cauldron to boil a brat from down the road
Halloween excites kids all over
When she's finished with them they'll be steeped in oil of clover
They take no notice of a wagging finger
But she knows how to stop them playing ‘ knock down ginger'
Ganging up outside demanding money, toys or something to eat
She'll set the bats on them..that'll be a trick not a treat.

More Hair!
You've already taken my lunch, my socks, my long-distance binocs,
Now what do you want?
More Hair!
My jeans, my spleens, my workout magazines,
They're gone, now you want?
More Hair!
I gave you my gum, cilium, chromium,
my green shoes, my feet shoes, my mangy old street shoes,
Come on, you want?
More Hair!
Give me my CDs, my TVs, my Wheaties and my Levi's.
Know what I'll give you?
More Hair!

Manged Dog
This mangy dog
This dog with mange
Pitiful pitiful sight
The mut with dogged ears
Why o' dog
Does your tail drag
you wretched thing
your eyes build up crust
On the outside corners
your eyes carve paths
Of ceasless tears
you beg for food
you deserve none
Pethetic dog die
Dog away from me...
i am a dog worthy
of death but
Insteadt i beg for food
Foe my master
Is dying on his
Death bed he has only
i to give him food
For days i have panted
For pity i pray
My master have food
i pray he dies not
For days i have cried
By these corners
While my poor
Master dies

Sad Country
Sad and made of copper
The symbol we are wed,
Even our comedies
End a little sadly….
Our joyful neighbors
Wear their infernal
Hirsute fur coats….
And that only… banal
Are our mangy bears
With prey trembling
In blood-covered lips.
For what purpose, when dreams betray,
That words brim over with delusions?
For what purpose, on a forgotten grave,
Grass grows greener and emits a noise?
For what purpose these lunar heights,
If my garden is silent and dark?
And the tails of her plaits are untied,
And I hear their breath... for what?

Dude
Cruised into a bar on the shore
Her picture graced a grime on his door
She a long lost love at first sight
Baby, mabye you're wrong
But you know it's all right - that's right
Back stage we're having the time
Of our lives until somebody says
'forgive me if i seem out of line'
Then she whipped out a gun
Tried to blow me away
(chorus)
Dude looks like a lady
Dude looks like a lady
Dude looks like a lady
Dude looks like a lady
So never judge a book by its cover
Or who you gonna love by your lover
Love put me wise to her love in disguise
She had the body of a venus
Lord, imagine my surprise
(chorus)
(baby let me follow you down)
Let me take a peak dear
(baby let me follow you down)
Do me, do me, do me all night
(baby let me follow you down)
Turn the other cheek dear
(baby let me follow you down)
Do me, do me, do me, sue me
What a funky lady
Oh, she like it, like it, like it, like it
Oh, he was a lady
(repeat chorus)

Bowery Afternoon
Drab discoloration
Of faces, façades, pawn-shops,
Second-hand clothing,
Smoky and fly-blown glass of lunch-rooms,
Odors of rancid life…
Deadly uniformity
Of eyes and windows
Alike devoid of light…
Holes wherein life scratches -
Mangy life
Nosing to the gutter's end…
Show-rooms and mimic pillars
Flaunting out of their gaudy vestibules
Bosoms and posturing thighs…
Over all the Elevated
Droning like a bloated fly.

The Stallion Pt. 3
Mach 10 at sudden speed, flying into the wind now
I'm flowing at my feet something of likeness to you now
I spotted you in the sun, i called your name from a distance
I knew you were the one, i called again
I do declare i can float in the air
And with some love from above you must
Don't caress the weasel and don't fall too soon
Don't seek the blood from the panther
Don't take a trip to you soon
I'm the one helding the time back from the sun
As i scope the lobe
I am the one who controls the sun
And i know that things will pass as time elapse, lapses
Time elapses through the sound of you
And the things we could do
Just think of the master
Trying to fool the blastman
Check the cards at the table
Scream softly you are able
To see the sign of thineself as throughout the ages of time
Things you thought weren't going to climb the mountain
See the sun
Touch the waves of the earth
Feel the grass softly
And don't think for the one you know
I am screaming backwards in the sand
Hey, dude, he's the stallion
Yo, dude, he's the stallion
Dude, he's the stallion

Llano Vaqueros
Padilla unloads mangy herd of Mexican
cattle in the field.
Meaner, horns long and sharp
for bloody battle, lean from a diet
of prairie weed, looking more
like cattle did years ago
on the plains
than cattle now–
sluggish, pampered globs
stalled year round
for State Fair Judges to admire,
stall-salon dolls, hooves manicured
and polished, hide-hair blow-dried, lips
and lashes waxed.
I ride down the dirt road
on Sunshine (my bay mare)
and she smarts
away from their disdainful glare–
come in, try to lasso us,
try to comb our hair.
I admire my ancestors, llano vaqueros,
who flicked a home-made cigarette in dust,
spit in scuffed gloves, grabbed one
by the horns, wrestled it down,
branded it, with the same pleasure
they enjoyed in a bunk-house brawl.

A Ways To Go
(lainie marsh)
I hear the clock a tickin
See the sweat upon my brow
I know my destination
Nothings gonna stop me now
Im running on desire
Baby Ive got nerves of steel
Coming down to the wire
Lord above me guide the wheel
Keep me in your prayers tonight
Ill be weary upon that road
I know the finish lines in sight
But I still have a ways to go
Theres a junkyard dog a barkin
In the valley down below
Hes wanting me to stop and
Gather up a heavy load
Aint gonna heed his call
Aint givin him the time of day
You mangy mutt once and for all
I said I threw that stuff away
I wont have a bit of trouble
Heading down the straight and true
Ill fly solo on the double
Into the yonder blue
I might need some intervention
Out upon the icy turn
In a foggy situation
Squealin on a hairpin curve
Im running on desire
Baby Ive got nerves of steel
Coming down to the wire
Lord above me guide the wheel
Keep me in your prayers tonight
Ill be weary upon that road
I know the finish lines in sight
But I still have a ways to go
Keep me in your prayers tonight
Ill be weary upon that road
I know the finish lines in sight
But I still have a ways to go
Got a ways to go, got a ways to go

Divided Destinies
It was an artless Bandar, and he danced upon a pine,
And much I wondered how he lived, and where the beast might dine,
And many, many other things, till, o'er my morning smoke,
I slept the sleep of idleness and dreamt that Bandar spoke.
He said: "O man of many clothes! Sad crawler on the Hills!
Observe, I know not Ranken's shop, nor Ranken's monthly bills;
I take no heed to trousers or the coats that you call dress;
Nor am I plagued with little cards for little drinks at Mess.
"I steal the bunnia's grain at morn, at noon and eventide,
(For he is fat and I am spare), I roam the mountain side,
I follow no man's carriage, and no, never in my life
Have I flirted at Peliti's with another Bandar's wife.
"O man of futile fopperies -- unnecessary wraps;
I own no ponies in the hills, I drive no tall-wheeled traps;
I buy me not twelve-button gloves, 'short-sixes' eke, or rings,
Nor do I waste at Hamilton's my wealth on 'pretty things.'
"I quarrel with my wife at home, we never fight abroad;
But Mrs. B. has grasped the fact I am her only lord.
I never heard of fever -- dumps nor debts depress my soul;
And I pity and despise you!" Here he pouched my breakfast-roll.
His hide was very mangy, and his face was very red,
And ever and anon he scratched with energy his head.
His manners were not always nice, but how my spirit cried
To be an artless Bandar loose upon the mountain side!
So I answered: "Gentle Bandar, and inscrutable Decree
Makes thee a gleesome fleasome Thou, and me a wretched Me.
Go! Depart in peace, my brother, to thy home amid the pine;
Yet forget not once a mortal wished to change his lot for thine."

Lover Man
Babys in the back seat, its so real
Gotta love the feel of the automobile
You get a certain style when youre so mobile
And responsibility you can avoid that trial
Walkin on the wild side
Lookin at the down side
Just a little crazy
Got a kind of strange pride
Standin at the back door, mercy me
Aint no place for the man to be
Its a private love, no publicity
And the woman that hes waitin for is bad news, hell see
Goin to a go-go
Slippin to a life low
Goin for the fake tan
Dreamin up a fashion plan
loverman
Hes a very superficial man
He likes the girls that go there
Hes a dude with a master plan
So young but why should he care?
Drivin into downtown right on time
Smokin like a pistol aimed on line
Waitin for the tingles in his back
All those dangerous feelings getting ready to attack
Walkin on the barbed wire
Playin with desire
Goin for the night plan
Breakin any heart he can
loverman
Hes a very superficial man
He likes the girls that go there
Hes a dude with a master plan
So young but why should he care?
Babys in the back seat
Gotta love the feel
Babys in the back seat
Gotta love the feel
Hes a very superficial man
He likes the girls that go there
Hes a dude with a master plan
So young but why should he care?
Hes a very superficial man
He likes the girls that go there
Hes a dude with a master plan
So young but why should he care?
Hes a very superficial man
His suit is ten years older than his last flame
Hes the dude with the master plan
Hes a very superficial man
He likes the girls that go there
Hes a dude with a master plan

“Acid” (To Timothy)
LSD better known as “Acid”
Can make you rave or rather flaccid
It's made crazed ones claw steep walls
Or run insanely through dark 'n dreary halls
Never meant for fun, for power it does hold
More bad trips than good trips, if the truth be told
Oh, Doctor Leary, why did they treat badly?
They closed the gateway to our minds
you opened up so gladly
They trashed your work ‘n rode you hard to ground
Threw you into lock up, like some mangy hound
Relentless, those that feared the gifts you gave us
Criminalizing your life's work 'n raising such a fuss
They were not ready for free 'n open minds
Nor free speech 'n thoughts of diverse kinds
A joker they made of you dear Tim
“He’s a kook” naysayers did decree
How could they know what 'acid' gave to you 'n me
Those that knew 'n loved you, can't thank you enough,
We valiant few who turned on, tuned in 'n dropped out
When times were plenty tough
Fledgling wings now lift you skyward as you learn to fly
You soar with eagles, Adieu old friend...good-bye!

Dump The Dude
Hey girl, I wanna give you some friendly advice
Hes got you cryin, oh hes done it again
Hes made a date and he didnt show
You know hes done this to you so many times
When you gonna let him go
He doesnt treat you little a lover should
He could be so downright cruel
Cant understand why youre hangin with him
Girl, dont you be a fool
Go on and dump the dude
You know hes got a rotten attitude
He always leaves you in a cryin mood
Take my advice, dont you think twice
Listen to what Im telling you
Go on and dump the dude
You know that weve been friends for so many years
And Ive never ever seen you this way
So torn apart, how he gets to your heart
With all the little games that he plays
Just give him up, get him out of your life
Promise me that once and for all
Youre gonna tell him that its over and done
The very next time he calls, aint you now
Dump the dude
You know hes got a rotten attitude
He always leaves you in a cryin mood
Take my advice, find somebody nice
Listen to what Im telling you
Go on and dump the dude
Girl, I know you may think this is none of my business
But the fact that were friends I believe that makes it my business
I care about you but I aint preachin
I think you should dump the dude
I dont know why youd want to settle for less
When you could have so much more
You know that you deserve only the best
So what are you waiting for?
Go on and dump the dude
You know hes got a rotten attitude
He always leaves you in a cryin mood
Take my advice, dont you think twice
Find yourself somebody nice
Go on and dump the dude
