Holly Go Round
I had given up on Holly, since the time,
(When rather jolly) , she had
Leapt between the covers of
My friend, Rick Barnard's bed.
She had been apologetic, had
Been feeling quite splenetic, could
I 'just ignore, forget it? '
I won't tell you what I said!
So she went to live with Harry,
Then I heard she'd married Gary,
But was playing up with Larry,
How the rumours seemed to grow!
I'd begun to favour Mitsy, who
It's true, was often tipsy,
And was too much of a gypsy, so
I had to let her go.
Then this Gary came to see me
And he sat there, not too near me
As he'd heard I could be vengeful
Over women, as you know.
And he knew I'd been with Holly
So he said that he was sorry,
But she'd thrown herself upon him
And she wouldn't let him go!
So I sat and said, 'What is it?
To what purpose is your visit,
You have won the girl I wanted
And there's nothing I can do!
But his face grew ill, and crumbled,
As his words began to stumble…
'I might have a proposition that
Could just appeal to you! '
Then quietly, I listened
To the plot that he had christened,
And I must admit my jaw had dropped
As he began to wail;
'I've made mistakes a-plenty
In my life, well over twenty,
But I have to make it up to you -
So Holly's up for sale! '
'I've put her on the market
To the highest bidding target,
And I knew you'd want to bid for her
And she would like it too,
But she knows I'm not a kidder
When I said, 'the highest bidder...
Well, she cried, and said she'd do it,
But she's hoping that it's you! '
'Well, I'll need to see the package,
Check the goods for extra baggage,
For remorse, of course, and saggage, '
I began, 'but here's the crunch!
She will have to tend my garden,
Wash my feet, and be most ardent,
Keeping only to my bed, and with
Her mouth shut, for a month! '
He knew the game was up, and that
With Holly, he was stuck!
She was playing up with Roly
By the middle of that year,
And the quads were Rick and Harry,
And a little one called Larry,
But with no sign of a Gary,
Little Roly was a girl!

Holly Bush
The Holly Bush
It was in the depth of winter
When snow lay crisp upon the ground
That I saw the tiny creatures
Which fluttered all around.
I stepped into the garden
To see what the fuss was all about.
There was a fairy trapped in my holly bush
And her friends were trying to pull her out.
But the sharp leaves stabbed at wings
And they tangled up long hair
As the fairies attempted their rescue.
They weren’t getting anywhere.
The fairies saw me on the garden path
And that I was getting near
They hid behind my chimney stack
And cried aloud in fear.
‘Stop being silly now, ’ I told them
As I carefully pulled the fairy free.
‘My name is Buttercup’, she said
As she explained to me.
That she had been stealing the berries
To plant down in the wood
Because there was no holly left.
She was really trying to be good.
‘People like holly for Christmas
But some of them dig up all the trees.
They don’t leave anything for the birds
So, can we have some berries, please.’
I did not want my little friend
To take another fall
So I helped to pick some berries
And said I did not mind at all.
The other fairies came to thank me
Then taking a berry each, off they flew
But Buttercup waited by my side
There was something else she had to do.
She waved her hand up in the air
And her dress changed to green and red
‘This will remind me of your holly bush
And your kindness, ’ the fairy said.
So, if you find a fairy in your garden
With a dress of red and green
Please, allow her to steal some berries
For it is my friend that you have seen.

Less Eccentric But Thoughtfully Provocative
Remembering those first decisions,
I had made for myself...
I can now admit to feeling awkward then.
I had no elder sibling to follow.
I was the oldest child in my clan.
And I noticed with me several experiments began.
I was expected to 'know' before I knew a thing.
I was expected to 'grow'...
To show my sister, Mimmie 'everything'.
And she knew she got the short end of the stick.
'You don't know what your're doing!
Do you? '
~Shut up! I'm two years older than you...
LITTLE girl.~
She hated me for that.
And I didn't care.
I hated we both were in that trap!
Of that I was young and too aware.
I made many mistakes!
I didn't know what I was doing.
The first born of a crew,
Is often blamed for what the other kids do!
And when I knew this was going to be my fate,
I flew!
Or I thought I could...
By taking a swan drive from the nest!
I had just turned 18...
When I joined the military.
Never again to say I was bored to death.
It took me years to land on my feet.
Since I kept knocking my head,
Against many tests I objected to in protest.
Remembering those first decisions,
I had made for myself...
I can now admit to feeling awkward then.

Even to this day I look for ways,
To be daring and more outrageous.
Although I like to perceive my actions to be,
