Gypsy Twist
The gypsy walked at the shingle,
Her dress flared out in the breeze,
Her hair tied back with a coloured scarf
As she wandered at her ease,
She fed the gulls at the water's edge
And she gazed back, moodily,
Where the Master of Harrington Hall was stood
As he watched her, through the trees.
While back at the house there, on the hill,
His wife sat in despair,
She'd worn her prettiest dress for him,
She'd combed her auburn hair,
She'd flushed her cheeks with a touch of rouge,
Her lips were gypsy red,
But she hadn't attracted a single glance
From his lordship's noble head.
He'd taken her as a child, and taught her
How to walk with grace,
He'd sent her off to a finishing school
To learn her lady's place,
She'd learnt to stifle emotion when
It rose in her frightened eyes,
And sat with her needlework and thread,
A work that she despised!
Then once she was taught, and tamed enough,
He showed her to his kin,
They nodded with faint approval at
The match that he'd made for him,
They dressed her up in a wedding gown
And mocked, behind her back,
This would-be lady from finishing school,
So open to attack!
They'd beaten her conversation out,
They'd left her feeling small,
He'd tried to speak to her once or twice,
But she couldn't reply at all.
She knew but little or nothing of
The world, or its great affairs,
So sat at the window sewing,
Watched him stray in the woods out there.
The gypsies came in the autumn,
Made their camp at the edge of the wood,
The Lord of Harrington Hall had said:
'Some colour will do us good!
He wandered out to inspect the camp,
Its caravans, horses and thieves,
But the sight that caught at his jaundiced eye
Was the gypsy, Genevieve!
She'd danced in a leafy clearing to
The sound of an ancient lute,
Her smile so bright, her teeth so white
And a necklace made of fruit,
She seemed at one with the humid earth
With a perfume made from musk,
She danced like sin, and she drew him in
As the day drew down to dusk.
Simone sat long at the window with
Her needlework denied,
While down at the long breakwater
Sat her husband, watching the tide!
She saw as the colony of terns
Wheeled screaming into the air,
And Genevieve knotted a love-knot
Into her wild, beribboned hair.
The gypsies left as the winter snow
Turned white the pebbled shore,
But long after dusk, the lord returned
Came in at the servants' door,
Behind him the gypsy, Genevieve,
Had sat by the kitchen fire,
As he told Simone that he'd brought her home,
And this was his one desire!
'She needs to be educated, needs
A mentor, full of grace,
Get rid of the rough and ready parts
Of her rough and ready race!
I've taken it on myself to form her,
Teach her to sip her wine,
She'll have the advantage you have had,
You'll see - it'll work out fine! '
She went away to the finishing school
And Simone sighed with relief,
She tried so hard with her wayward lord
That she felt a new belief,
But she lost a child in the early spring
And it turned his lordship's head,
She knew that she'd lost her only chance,
Her marriage, as good as dead!
A year went by, as a year it will
In the flash of an eye, and gone,
And Genevieve had returned one day
In a carriage, a bonnet on!
She looked demure as she curtsied low
To the lord, who smiled her way,
But she'd lost her pout, and her fire was out,
And she seemed no longer gay.
Now Genevieve takes her needlework
And she sits by the windowsill,
But she never utters a word to him
The Master of Harrington Hall.
He watches Simone as she trips the beach,
And her dress flares out in the breeze,
As she dances, wild as a gypsy girl,
To a lute that sounds through the trees.

Sweet Lady Genevieve
(sung by the tramp)
Once under a scarlet sky I told you never ending lies,
But they were the words of a drunken vagabond
Who knew very well he would break your heart before long
Oh forgive me genevieve.
Now Ive come back to see sweet lady genevieve,
This time Ill give you some security
And I will make promises I can keep
So will you come back to me sweet lady genevieve.
Let me rock you, hold you,
Take you in my arms.
Forgive me, please,
Smile away all your sadness, put your trust in me.
Oh if you come back to me sweet lady genevieve,
Im not the impetuous fool you used to know
I know that I used you and I hurt you so,
But that was so long ago sweet lady genevieve.
Oh, love me,
Take me in your arms.
Let me rock you, hold you,
Smile away all your sadness, put your trust in me.
Once under a starry sky I led you on and told you lies
Drank too much whiskey on that hot summer night.
I acted so slyly because you were acting so shy,
Oh forgive me genevieve.
If you come back to me sweet lady genevieve,
Youre not the child who smiled so innocently
And Im not the rogue that I used to be,
So will you come back to me sweet lady genevieve.
Oh genevieve, oh genevieve.

Gypsy Belle
Well I got me a southern lady.
She's my gypsy belle from Tennessee.
She's got long dark hair and skinny legs.
Lord she sets my spirit free.
Well she knows I like that good ol' whiskey,
and she knows what I'm lookin' for.
She's the finest lookin' little lady.
Well a man could never wish for more.
Gypsy Belle you know I love her.
She's my lady from Tennessee.
And I know I'm always thinking of her.
Gypsy Belle you're the one for me.
Yes I know I ain't got much money,
but she makes me feel rich at heart.
Living with this kind o' lady
make any man reach the top.
Yes I know it ain't comin' easy
Lord I ask "Who's to tell"?
If I ever make a lot o' money,
well I'd give it to my Gypsy Belle.
Gypsy Belle you know I love her.
She's my lady from Tennessee.
And I know I'm always thinking of her.
Gypsy Belle you're the one for me.
Gypsy Belle you know I love her.
She's my lady from Tennessee.
And I know I'm always thinking of her.
Gypsy Belle you're the one for me.

The Raggle Taggle Gypsy
(traditional)
There were three old gypsies came to our hall door
They came brave and boldly-o
And one sang high and the other sang low
And the other sang a raggle taggle gypsy-o
It was upstairs downstairs the lady went
Put on her suit of leather-o
And there was a cry from around the door
Shes away wi the raggle taggle gypsy-o
It was late that night when the lord came in
Enquiring for his lady-o
And the servant girl she said to the lord
Shes away wi the raggle taggle gypsy-o
Then saddle for me my milk white steed
- my big horse is not speedy-o
And I will ride till I seek my bride
Shes away wi the raggle taggle gypsy-o
Now he rode east and he rode west
He rode north and south also
Until he came to a wide open plain
It was there that he spied his lady-o
How could you leave your goose feather bed
Your blankeys strewn so comely-o?
And how could you leave your newly wedded lord
All for a raggle taggle gypsy-o?
What care I for my goose feather bed
Wi blankets strewn so comely-o?
Tonight I lie in a wide open field
In the arms of a raggle taggle gypsy-o
How could you leave your house and your land?
How could you leave your money-o?
How could you leave your only wedded lord
All for a raggle taggle gypsy-o?
What care I for my house and my land?
What care I for my money-o?
Id rather have a kiss from the yellow gypsys lips
Im away wi the raggle taggle gypsy-o!

Old Rupert
She has had him since he was a pup some thirteen years or so
And between Genevieve and her border collie the bond of friendship grow
In his prime in the late nineties going back ten years ago
Old Rupert not the dog he was the years have left him slow
A beautiful black and white dog his muzzle has turned to gray
But he still digs for rabbits when he gets the chance his natural dog way
He comes home to Genevieve with an earthy coat and earth around his face and jaws
And she scolds him as she brushes him and washes the earth from his paws
To dig for rabbits to a dog is not doing any wrong
And for this Genevieve is quick to forgive him the bond between them strong
Old Rupert is not hard to please his needs in life are small
A walk or a drive in the car are things he loves best of all
Genevieve has had since he was a pup in nineteen ninety four
He was a fine dog in his prime going back ten years or more.

Gypsy Woman
From nowhere through the caravan
Round the campfire light
Lovely woman in motion
With hair as dark as night
Her eyes were like that of a cat in the dark
That hypnotized me with love
She was a gypsy woman
She was a gypsy woman
She was a gypsy woman
She was a gypsy woman
She was a gypsy woman
She danced around and round
Guitars melody
From the fire her face was aglow
How she enchanted me
Id like to hold her near
And kiss her hair and whisper in her ear
I love you gypsy woman
I love you gypsy woman
I love you gypsy woman
I love you gypsy woman
All through the caravan
She was dancing with all the men
Waiting for the rising sun
Everyone was having fun
Hated to see her go
Knowing that shell never know
That I love her
That I love her
I love you gypsy woman
I love you gypsy woman
I love you gypsy woman
I love you gypsy woman
Whoever compared it to part monkey part man hit the nail on the head. it has that same kind of dark, mysterious sound. the vocals are soft and understated, somewhat reminiscent to those on if I should fall behind or pony boy. the song is sung with that nasally twang bruce has grown so fond of lately.

Gypsy Woman
(curtis mayfield)
From out of nowhere, through a caravan, around the campfire light
Came a lovely woman in motion with hair as dark as night
Her eyes were like those of a cat in the dark
And she hypnotized me with love
She was a gypsy woman
She danced around and round to guitar melody
From the fire her face was all aglow
How she enchanted me
How Id love to hold her near
And kiss and forever whisper in her ear
I love you gypsy woman
I want you gypsy woman
I need you gypsy woman
Just got to have a gypsy woman
All through the caravan, she was dancing with all the men
Waiting for the rising sun, everyone was having fun
I hate to see the lady go, knowing shell never know
That I love her, I love her
I love you gypsy woman
I want you gypsy woman
I need you gypsy woman
Just got to have a gypsy woman

Gypsy Lou
by Bob Dylan
If you getcha one girl, better get two
Case you run into Gypsy Lou
She's a ramblin' woman with a ramblin' mind
Always leavin' somebody behind.
Hey, 'round the bend
Gypsy Lou's gone again
Gypsy Lou's gone again.
Well, I seen the whole country through
Just to find Gypsy Lou
Seen it up, seen it down
Followin' Gypsy Lou around.
Hey, 'round the bend
Gypsy Lou's gone again
Gypsy Lou's gone again.
Well, I gotta stop and take some rest
My poor feet are second best
My poor feet are wearin' thin
Gypsy Lou's gone again.
Hey, gone again
Gypsy Lou's 'round the bend
Gypsy Lou's 'round the bend.
Well, seen her up in old Cheyenne
Turned my head and away she ran
From Denver Town to Wichita
Last I heard she's in Arkansas.
Hey, 'round the bend
Gypsy Lou's gone again
Gypsy Lou's gone again
Well, I tell you what if you what if you want to do
Tell you what, you'll wear out your shoes
If you want to wear out your shoes
Try and follow Gypsy Lou.
Hey, gone again
Gypsy Lou's 'round the bend
Gypsy Lou's 'round the bend.
Well, Gypsy Lou, I been told
Livin' down on Gallus Road
Gallus Road, Arlington
Moved away to Washington.
Hey, 'round the bend
Gypsy Lou's gone again
Gypsy Lou's gone again
Well, I went down to Washington
Then she went to Oregon
I skipped the ground and hopped a train
She's back in Gallus Road again.
Hey, I can't win
Gypsy Lou's gone again
Gypsy Lou's gone again
Well, the last I heard of Gypsy Lou
She's in a Memphis calaboose
She left one too many a boy behind
He committed suicide.
Hey, you can't win
Gypsy Lou's gone again
Gypsy Lou's gone again

Gypsy, Joe And Me
We might have slept in a rail yard or camped by the river bank
We fed ourselves from the fruit of the land
and quenched our thirst with rain
We never did allow no roots to grow beneath our feet
Life just had no pattern for Gypsy Joe and me
All we had was each other.and the rags upon our back
The closest thing to a home we new was some abandoned shack
But we had all we needed and the rest we didn't need
Life was free and simple for Gypsy Joe and me
Now Gypsy was my little dog ,I found by the road in a ditch
And so I named him Gypsy, cause that name just seemed to fit
Oh and Joe he was my man,the flower of my soul
Thou he never said he loved me,I just always seemed to know
While standing by the highway, thumbin' for a ride
The speeding wheels of a passing car, took Gypsy's life
I lost him where I found him and his loss was misery
Now there's no more Gypsy, there's just Joe and me
Well the winter came and the snow did fall
And the night was cold and still
And the rags we wore were not enough
and Joe he caught the chill
And he told me how he loved me
and in my arms he went to sleep
Now there's no more Gypsy,no more Joe,there's just me
While standin' here on the edge of this bridge
Lookin' down I see
The face of Joe and Gypsy, lookin' back at me
And somewhere in the distance I can hear them callin' me
Tonight we'll be together again
Gypsy,Joe and me

Gypsy Eyes
Well I realize that Ive been hypnotized,
I love your gypsy eyes
I love your gypsy eyes
Alright!
Hey!
Gypsy.
Way up in my tree Im sitting by my fire
Wondrin where in this world might you be
And knowin all the time youre still roamin in the country side
Do you still think about me?
Oh my gypsy.
Well I walked right on to your rebel roadside
The one that rambles on for a million miles
Yes I walk down this road searchin for your love and ah my soul too
But when I find ya I aint gonna let go.
I remember the first time I saw you
The tears in your eyes look like theyre tryin to say
Oh little boy you know I could love you
But first I must make my get away
Two strange men fightin to the death over me today
Ill try to meet cha by the old highway.
Hey!
Well I realize that Ive been hypnotized, I love your gypsy eyes
I love your gypsy eyes
I love your gypsy eyes
I love your gypsy eyes
Alright!
Ive been searchin so long my feet have made me lose the battle
Down against the road my weary knees they got me
Off to the side I fall but I hear a sweet call
My gypsy eyes is comin and Ive been saved.
Oh Ive been saved
Thats why I love you uh
Said I love you
Hey!
Love you uh
Lord I love you
Hey!

Went To See The Gypsy
Went to see the gypsy,
Stayin in a big hotel.
He smiled when he saw me coming,
And he said, well, well, well.
His room was dark and crowded,
Lights were low and dim.
How are you? he said to me,
I said it back to him.
I went down to the lobby
To make a small call out.
A pretty dancing girl was there,
And she began to shout,
Go on back to see the gypsy.
He can move you from the rear,
Drive you from your fear,
Bring you through the mirror.
He did it in las vegas,
And he can do it here.
Outside the lights were shining
On the river of tears,
I watched them from the distance
With music in my ears.
I went back to see the gypsy,
It was nearly early dawn.
The gypsys door was open wide
But the gypsy was gone,
And that pretty dancing girl,
She could not be found.
So I watched that sun come rising
From that little minnesota town.

Gypsy
Written by stevie nicks.
So Im back, to the velvet underground
Back to the floor, that I love
To a room with some lace and paper flowers
Back to the gypsy that I was
To the gypsy... that I was
And it all comes down to you
Well, you know that it does
Well, lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice
Ah, and it lights up the night
And you see your gypsy
You see your gypsy
To the gypsy that remains faces freedom with a little fear
I have no fear, I have only love
And if I was a child
And the child was enough
Enough for me to love
Enough to love
She is dancing away from me now
She was just a wish
She was just a wish
And a memory is all that is left for you now
You see your gypsy
You see your gypsy
Lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice
And it all comes down to you
And it all comes down to you
Lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice
And it all comes down to you
I still see your bright eyes, bright eyes
And it all comes down to you
I still see your bright eyes, bright eyes
And it all comes down to you
I still see your bright eyes, bright eyes
(she was just a wish)
(she was just a wish)
And it all comes down to you
Lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice
And it all comes down to you

Courting Disaster
I was twenty-three when I saw her first,
Without a word of a lie,
She had wandered into the woods by me
With a basket, held on high,
Her auburn hair reflected the sun
And she flashed me a dazzling smile,
That turned my head to the way she led
As I followed her, over the stile.
She skipped along at a steady pace
Weaved in and out through the trees,
Collected the broad-rimmed mushrooms there
As she stopped, and fell to her knees,
Her dress flared out as it caught the wind
And her hair was floated wide,
I hid by a tree, and held my breath
As I thought of her, as a bride.
She had such a look of innocence,
Was free as the birds of the air,
The legs and the grace of a peasant girl
Brought up in the great out-there,
She ran right up to a Woodsman's house
That was hidden by branch and vine,
Then danced right in through the open door,
And then I knew; she was mine!
The door was closed when I finally knocked
But I heard a terrible moan,
And minutes later the door unlocked,
In the hall stood a fusty crone,
She stared at me through her hoary eyes
With never a hint of grace,
‘What do you want? ' she growled at me,
For the shock must have shown in my face.
‘That girl, who danced in a moment back,
I'm here to discover her name.'
‘There is no girl, ' said the ancient hack,
‘You'd better return where you came! '
‘I saw her enter, I must insist,
I'll not be gulled by your lies! '
‘That girl's been dead for a long time back,
You'd better leave now, if you're wise! '
She slammed the door in my face just then
So I wandered back through the trees,
A raincloud covered the midday sun
And I felt the chill of a breeze,
The rain came down as I walked back home,
Climbed over the ricketty stile,
Was drenched to the skin as I wandered in,
And thought to resort to guile.
For days I lingered by that old track,
The place that I'd seen her first,
I felt so miserable, holding back,
As I thought, and feared for the worst,
What if the girl was a sprite, who'd died,
Just as the old crone said?
Try as I might, I couldn't believe,
Nor get her out of my head.
I finally went to the Woodsman's house
And I hid in a patch by the vine,
When suddenly out of the door came tripping
The girl, with her eyes a-shine,
She skipped away with her basket, filled
With linen and loaves and cheese,
And I caught her then in a shady glade
As she stopped, and fell to her knees.
‘I hoped you'd come, ' were the words she said
As she laid a cloth on the ground,
‘I have to hide from that grey old witch
So I go where I'll never be found.'
She broke the bread and she poured the wine
And we ate and drank in the glade,
My mind was filled with a sudden chill
But I thought of fun in the shade.
‘So when are you going to kiss me, then? '
She said when we finished our feast,
‘I've fed your animal spirits, now,
It's time I was paid, at least! '
I kissed her there in the shady glade
And we tumbled there in the leaves,
Then I fell asleep, and she'd gone when I
Awoke, and the heart, it grieves.
I stumbled home, but was feeling faint
I had aches and pains in my head,
I staggered through to the bedroom, then
I found her asleep in my bed,
She woke and sat, and she stared at me
But her face had begun to change,
There were lines and wrinkles around her eyes
And her hair was grey with age.
‘I need you now that my time is short,
Come and rest your weary head, '
I caught a glimpse in the mirror then
And it filled me full of dread,
For the face of a man of middle age
Stared back at me from the glass,
‘Just what have to done to me? ' I said…
‘Do you really have to ask? '
‘I fed on your animal needs, and you
Gave something to set me free,
If you want me to be a bright young thing
Then you must replenish me.'
I saw she aged by the minute there
And she soon let out a moan,
For lying in bed was a figure of dread,
That hoary old witch, the crone!
I'm far too weak to get out of bed,
But Elli goes out on her own,
She carries her basket into the wood
For the mushrooms she eats alone,
My beard is grey and I dread each day
As she bleeds my life from its core,
But she's as lovely as ever she was
At a hundred and twenty-four!

Gypsy Boots
(chorus)
Gypsy, gypsy, dancing feet
Gypsy, gypsy, bittersweet
Screamer, dreamer, idsarray
Gypsy, gypsy, why dont you fly away
No good, papas no good
Sisters no good and thats a drag
Sometimes you feel like
Your heads on the ceiling
When you scream your mama rag
When your daddy come home
With an old soup bone
And take all your money away
And your mamas in the kitchen
On the phone she be bitchin
And your girlfriend who called to stay
(chrous)
High school lover, with ya cops undercover
And gettin high, drank lebanese
Hey mama, choose what you been through
And hit righ between your knees
Hair case, shotgun, rock on
Chewing gum, take it to the dance tonight
Your love child with wild child smile
And dont care wrong from right
(chorus)
Nobody but nobody baby
Knockin my socks off
Rock, rockin baby
Ill be gettin my rocks off
Nobody but nobody
Shootin never get a shot off
Yeah, yeah, yeah

Gypsy Girl
Ten years before my time
I sang a song to a friend of mine
bout a girl working for a dime
Although I didnt know that gypsy girl
But knew about her kind of thrill
Her loves not cheap but always up for sale
Picture this, I was alone
But when I sing this song
Im not alone
With my gypsy girl
Gypsy lady lost her soul
Shes so scared of growing old
But words dont age for me to turn to gold
Gypsy girl with raven hair
Eyes like saucers, with a stare
That says shes the one that never seems to care
Picture this, I was alone
But when I sing this song
Im not alone
With my gypsy girl
Gypsy girl plays it fair
Throws her hand in the air
Saying that she didnt really care

I Drive Like Shit (Not Really a Poem)
I happen to be a terrible driver.
I’m not purposely aggressive
Nor have I ever expressed road rage.
I just happen to be absent-minded
And I have no sense of direction.
When I was seeing a certain lady,
I would drive to her house,
And then if we went to a restaurant
Or a movie theater in her neighborhood,
I’d give her the keys and let her drive.
She didn’t seem to mind.
But since she drove,
I never learned the directions
To any of the places we went,
Even though we mostly went
To the same restaurants and theaters,
I’m just that oblivious.
One day coming home from dinner,
She says, “Do you know where you are? ”
I replied, “Right here with you.”
“No, ” she says, ” If I made you get out of the car,
Would you know how to get back to my house? ”
I answered quite honestly, “If you did that,
And we were only two blocks from your place,
I might never find you again! ”
Thus my since of direction.
I’ve always enjoyed going to rock concerts,
Which often requires me to drive into downtown Detroit,
I’ve been doing this all my life,
You would think I knew the city like
The back of my hand but no such luck.
When friends are with me, I’m normally fine:
They’ll tell me, “Turn right, Uriah, ”
“The light has turned red, Uriah! ”
“Slow down, Uriah, I just saw a cop.”
Any number of helpful suggestions
Usually proffered in a vaguely pleasant tone.
But when I’m by myself, I’m dangerous:
I’ll accidentally run red lights,
I’ll miss important turns,
I’ll make crazy U-turns in a vain attempt
To remain on track and not get lost.
I honestly scare myself sometimes.
Well, Friday I was going downtown
To meet a friend
To see the singer Pete Yorn
Who was playing at St. Andrews Hall.
I’ve been there any number of times,
But I get lost every single time,
You might as well be setting me down for the first time
On the streets of London or Paris!
St. Andrew’s Hall is on Congress Street,
I drove straight to Congress easy as a breeze,
I was all proud of myself.
But Congress is a one-way street
And I was several blocks pass St. Andrew’s.
I had to turn onto another street, loop around,
And come back. Simple, right?
I kept turning from one one-way street to another
Until I was thoroughly lost and frustrated.
Congress Street seemingly vanished in mid air.
I pulled into a parking lot with an old white guy attendant
Who looked like a street-wise gypsy,
And I say, “I’m lost, I’m looking for St. Andrew’s Hall.”
The old gypsy gives me simple instructions
But I never really pay attention to anyone
Even if they’re trying to save my life,
But I thought I had the gist of what he said
And went about my way.
Several more bad turns, I’m lost again,
And I wind right back up at the same parking lot
With the same old gypsy.
Again, I say, “I’m lost.”
This time, the old gypsy sounding perturbed
With me for being stupid, says, “Listen, dog,
I told you to turn left here, at the next light
Turn right, and go four blocks.”
I’m off to St. Andrew’s again and I’m thinking,
If I don’t find it this time, and I wind up
In the old gypsy’s parking lot again,
I think he’ll kick my ass!
I’m not strictly offended with the idea
Of a guy ten years my junior kicking my ass
For looking at his girl as if
She were a delicious ice-cream sundae,
But I think my pride would be wounded
If an old man kicked my ass for being lost!

Johnie Faa
The gypsies came to our good lord's gate
And wow but they sang sweetly!
They sang sae sweet and sae very complete
That down came the fair lady.
And she came tripping doun the stair,
And a' her maids before her;
As soon as they saw her weel-far'd face,
They coost the glamer o'er her.
'O come with me,' says Johnie Faw,
'O come with me, my dearie;
For I vow and I swear by the hilt of my sword,
That your lord shall nae mair come near ye.'
Then she gied them the beer and the wine,
And they gied her the ginger;
But she gied them a far better thing,
The goud ring aff her finger.
'Gae take frae me this yay mantle,
And bring to me a plaidie;
For if kith and kin, and a' had sworn,
I'll follow the gypsy laddie.
'Yestreen I lay in a weel-made bed,
Wi' my good lord beside me;
But this night I'll lye in a tenant's barn,
Whatever shall betide me!'
'Come to your bed,' says Johnie Faw,
'Oh, come to your bed, my dearie:
For I vow and swear by the hilt of my sword,
Your lord shall nae mair come near ye.'
'I'll go to bed to my Johnie Faw,
I'll go to bed to my dearie;
For I vow and I swear by the fan in my hand,
My lord shall nae mair come near me.
'I'll mak a hap to my Johnie Faw,
I'll mak a hap to my dearie;
And he's get a' the coat gaes round,
And my lord shall nae mair come near me.'
And when our lord came hame at e'en,
And spier'd for his fair lady,
The tane she cry'd, and the other reply'd,
'She's awa' wi' the gypsy laddie!'
'Gae saddle to me the black black steed,
Gae saddle and make him ready;
Before that I either eat or sleep,
I'll gae seek my fair lady.'
And we were fifteen weel-made men,
Altho' we were na bonny;
And we were a' put down but ane,
For a fair young wanton lady.

Gypsy Road
I used to be now Im not what you see, lord I try
And now it seems all those dreams have come true, but theyre passing me by
Some fast talkin mama for a dollar put a smile on my face
Im drivin all night
I end up in the same old place
My gypsy road cant take me home
I drive all night just to see the light
My gypsy road cant take me home
I keep on pushin cause it feels alright
And whos to care if I grow my hair to the sky
Ill take a wish and a prayer cross my fingers cause I always get by
Some fast talkin jerk for a dollar wiped the smile off my face
Im drivin all night
Just to keep the rat in the race
My gypsy road cant take me home
I drive all night just to see the light
My gypsy road cant take me home
I keep on pushin cause it feels alright
Sometimes I feel so old
Got my lights burnin bright
But Im lookin pretty sold
Sometimes I feel so cold
So cold
Lets go
Got to get on home
My gypsy road cant take me home
My gypsy road cant take me home, t-t-take me
My gypsy road cant take me home
I drive all night just to see the light
My gypsy road cant take me home
I keep on pushin cause it feels alright
My gypsy road cant take me home
I drive all night just to see the light
My gypsy road cant take me home
I keep on p-p-pushin
My gypsy road
My gypsy road
My gypsy road
My gypsy road
My gypsy road

Handsworth Wood
Have ever you seen
On Halloween,
The cloud that covers the trees so green?
The shroud that covers the last of lovers
The shifting mist of the in-between?
I’ve stood, I’ve stood,
By Handsworth Wood,
I’ve stood as long as I thought I could;
All Hallow’s Eve is the night I grieve
My Genevieve of the purple hood.
She slipped between
The trees so green,
She slipped from me one Halloween;
The cloud had glimmered, the evening shimmered
But she was never to more be seen.
And since that cloud
Became a shroud,
I’ve not forgotten the words I vowed;
My patience burns for the cloud’s return
To help discern what I might have been.
The day she left
I held my breath,
Her sleight of hand was so very deft;
But Genevieve, I still believe
You’ll wander out on some Hallow’s Eve.
I wait in vain,
There’s only rain,
The rain and part of the cloud remain;
But Genevieve I’ve not perceived
Since she went tripping in World’s End Lane.
World End’s Land
In Autumn rain,
There’s nothing left of my lost refrain;
For Handsworth Wood is a neighborhood
Where trees are held in a great disdain.

Knock, Knock
Lord Jesus stood there at my door
And twice He knocked then stayed.
It was my choice, I could ignore
And that's why I delayed.
He walked away.
I watched Him leave
Then got on with my life,
To sin like others who deceive
And cause all sorts of strife
Lord Jesus stood there at my door
And I watched Him inside.
I knew He knew my every flaw,
Not one could be denied.
I stood my ground, He left again.
I let Him walk away.
I struggled every now and then
With fears of Judgment Day.
My bank account looked mighty fine
As fifteen years passed by.
To think that all that cash was mine.
How come my soul felt dry?
Lord Jesus stood there at my door,
With fear I turned the key.
And simply stared at Christ with awe.
You see, He died for me.
Lord Jesus entered as my friend,
Yet also set me straight.
My useless life came to an end,
God's love to celebrate.
I sighed I'd made Him wait so long.
Those years I can't restore.
I tell you this, you can't go wrong
If you open the door.
