Turn It On

Every day just turn it on
Place it upon
the desk or in my pocket
That's what I do with it
Every day, just waiting for a call
Waiting for a text for your text, for your call, but it shall
Not come, it will not it just won't
Because you really don't
Text me or call me
But I'll turn it on and wait, you know just to see
In fact I'll keep hoping it's you
With every beep and even ring too
When I check it'll be like a reality check
It'll only take a sec
Before I realize it's not you, it will not be you, it won't
I wonder if you don't
Turn on your phone, but then again maybe you don't care
Maybe because I'd never dare
To complain to you about this to your face
I can't take the disgrace
I'll let you talk to me as much as you like, not as much I do
My feelings don't matter much in this situation, maybe not even to you
I pray they do, that they do mean something to you
But the longer you don't respond, it makes me wonder who
You think I am, or how you think of me
I wish I could see
How you see, but every day I'll turn it on
Take a breath with every sound hoping it's you, but then the moment's gone
Now it's just on
Placed upon... why do I even bother?

Turn To Me

If you gave up major vices
Youre between a hard place and a wall
And your car breaks down in traffic
On the street
Remember, Im the one who loves you
You can always give me a call
Turn to me, turn to me
Baby, turn to me
If your father is free basing
And your mother turning tricks
Thats still no reason
You should have a rip
Remember, Im the one who loves you
You can always give me a call
Turn to me, turn to me
Turn to me
When your teeth are ground down to the bone
And theres nothing between your legs
And some friend died of something
That you cant pronounce, ah
Remember, Im the one who loves you
Hey baby, you can always give me a call
Turn to me, turn to me
Turn to me
You cant pay your rent, your boss is an idiot
And your apartment has no heat
And your wife says, maybe
Its time to have a child
Remember, Im the one who loves you
And you can always give me a call
Turn to me, turn to me
Turn to me
When its all too much you turn the tv set on
And light a cigarette
And then a public service announcement
Comes creeping on
And you see a lung corroding
Or a fatal heart attack
Turn to me, turn to me
Baby, turn to me, Im just a phone call away
Turn to me, turn to me
Hey, turn to me, one .... a dollar
Turn to me, baby
Turn to me
(turn to me, turn to me
Turn to me)
(turn to me, turn to me
Turn to me)

School Sucks

People hate school.
This is a fact.
Why?
Why do you think?
By graduation,
You need a shrink.
Teachers lecture you,
Teachers yell at you,
People hate you,
What can you do?
Teachers get in your face,
Teachers enjoy your suffering,
They tell you what to do,
They think they own you.
Kids hate you,
They call you names,
They say hurtful things,
They make minutes feel like days.
There is no escape.
You sit in a desk,
Cramped and uncomforatable,
Waiting for the time to pass.
Bored out of your mind,
You’re going insane.
You start to fidget,
Play games and complain.
School is lame.
You watch the clock,
Tick tock, tick tock.
Does this never end?
You pull out your phone and text,
It makes a sound when you hit send.
Sitting in the principals office,
No phone, no fun,
Waiting to be treated like a kid.
They wonder why we hate school.
School is no fun,
School should be overruled.
Waiting for the weekend,
Wearing the next trend,
Excluded all the time,
Can’t get away fast enough,
3: 10, this is the end.

Voyeur Of Utter Destruction

Turn and turn again
Turn and turn again
I shake
And stare the sun
Till my eyes burn
I shake
At the mothers
Brutal vermin
I shake
And stare
At the watery moon
With the same desire
As the sober philistine
And i shake
Turn and turn again
Turn and turn again
Worm, the pain and blade
Turn and turn again
The screw
Is a tightening atrocity
I shake
For the reeking flesh
Is as romantic as hell
The need
To have seen it all
The voyeurof utter destruction
As beauty
And i shake
Worm, the pain and blade
Turn and turn again
I shake
Turn and turn again
I shake
I shake
I shake

Hey You, On The Phone

You,
On the phone...
You can be much more than what I see,
But you wont.
You can be much better than just 'be',
To condone.
But you wont,
And you don't.
But you wont,
And you don't.
But you wont,
And you don't.

Hey you,
On the phone...
You can be much more than what I see,
But you wont.
You can be much better than just 'be',
To condone.
But you wont,
And you don't.
But you wont,
And you don't.
But you wont,
And you don't.

All you want to do is stomp around and rock.
And,
Talk on the phone.
Or text mess. at home.

All you want to do is groan and shock a lot.
And,
Talk on the phone.
Or text mess. at home.
And,
Turn away to turn your back...
On something someone ask you to do.
Yes you do.
But...
You want someone there who just can't get there quicker for you.
Yes you do.

Yes you,
On the phone...
You can be much more than what I see,
But you wont.
You can be much better than just 'be',
To condone.
But you wont,
And you don't.
But you wont,
And you don't.
But you wont,
And you don't.

Hey you,
On the phone...
You can be much more than what I see,
But you wont.
You can be much better than just 'be',
To condone.
But you wont,
And you don't.
But you wont,
And you don't.
But you wont,
And you don't.

Hey you,
On the phone...
You can do much better.
Hey you,
On the phone...
You can do much better.
Hey you,
On the phone...
You can do much better.
But you wont,
And you don't.
But you wont,
And you don't.
But you wont,
And you don't.

Technology And Communications

What’s your mobile number?
I’ll call you later when
Things are not so busy
Now, just where is my pen?
No – let’s think – I’ll send an email
At least by close of play
Or maybe a text message
Is there any other way?
I could send facsimilies
Or faxes as they’re known
Sorry, I’m so busy
I really have to go.

Go where?
Go check my emails
Go where?
Go check my phone
Go where?
Go check my messages
Go where?
I just don’t know.

The magic of technology
Is it doesn’t matter where
The sender and receiver are
Or in their underwear
But we’ve got lost in all of this
Checking for things here and there
What seemed like real time saving
Now makes us pull out our hair
We spend so much time receiving
And retrieving things on screen
When a simple conversation
Could have made clear what we mean.

When Watching

One thing I've noticed I've come to miss
When watching my LED HD TV
Is that whenever I flip through the channels
On my DVR,
I don't have to become a tourist
Glancing at the sights anymore—
I can only read the dialogue of information
That tells me what I am watching
Or what I could be watching.
I don't have the time to observe
Foreign landscapes
(Partially because
Nobody makes shows
Of that
Anymore)
Or see how other people are different,
I just see text, text, text with no
Context, context, context,
And I feel like I'm missing something.
I don't even watch TV much anymore.
I don't enjoy sitcoms
Because I don't enjoy their jokes
Because my life isn't like that.
I don't enjoy the news
Because they don't tell me anything I want to hear
Because I want to know what's happening in the world.
I don't enjoy reality TV
Because those people make me afraid of reality
Because they call themselves reality.
I miss the white noise, the static,
The scrambled images of channels
I never had as a kid,
Or the disintegrated programs
That looked like high-energy molecular,
Heated up, when the cable is out.
I miss the way it sounded,
The thunder storm sound,
Voices reduced to raindrops
Pouring against the black backdrop
Of a dead screen,
A comforting hum
Made of chaos
For periods of silence,
Sometimes enough to make me turn it off.

Oh - dont turn me away
Dont turn me away babe
Dont turn me away

Ring Ring

I was sitting by the phone
I was waiting all alone
Baby by myself I sit and wait and wonder about you
Its a dark and dreary night
Seems like nothings going right
Wont you tell me honey how can I go on here without you?
Yes Im down and feeling blue
And I dont know what to do, oh-oh
Ring, ring, why dont you give me a call?
Ring, ring, the happiest sound of them all
Ring, ring, I stare at the phone on the wall
And I sit all alone impatiently
Wont you please understand the need in me
So, ring, ring, why dont you give me a call?
So, ring, ring, why dont you give me a call?
You were here and now youre gone
Hey did I do something wrong?
I just cant believe that I could be so badly mistaken
Was it me or was it you?
Tell me, are we really through?
Wont you hear me cry and you will know that my heart is breaking
Please forgive and then forget
Or maybe darling better yet, oh-oh
Ring, ring, why dont you give me a call?
Ring, ring, the happiest sound of them all
Ring, ring, I stare at the phone on the wall
And I sit all alone impatiently
Wont you please understand the need in me
So, ring, ring, why dont you give me a call?
So, ring, ring, why dont you give me a call?
Oh-oh, ring, ring, why dont you give me a call?

Turn To Me

Turn to me, Burning me, Turn to me, Burning me
From all the taking down,
To the driving far away.
As if we're lost and found,
Removing us everyday yeah.
Pushing things too far,
Or never moving it along.
Forgiving and forget,
Only makes one person strong.
Hoping and finding, resisting, denying,
Hey, with your classic words of
Turn to me, that's what you say
When you're burning me, that's what you do
When you turn to me, need more days
And the time to turn you off.
Turn to me, that's what you say
When you're burning me, that's what you do
When you turn to me, need more days
And the time to turn you off.
There's no familiar face, or a hand to cling upon,
We've walked a short distance, but it took so very long.
Hoping and fighting, resisting, denying,
With your classic words of
Turn to me, that's what you say
When you're burning me that's what you do
When you turn to me, need more days
And the time to turn you off.
Knowing that we'll jump a little too high to live
Knowing that it's safe, but not safe enogh to give.
Your heart, your dream, no give, no recieve,
Respect, believe, turn to me.
Turn to me, burning me
Turn to me, time to turn you off,
Burning, me, turn to me, resisting, denying.
Turn to me, that's what you say
When you're burning me, that's what you do
When you turn to me, need more days
And the time to turn you off.
Turn to me, that's what you say
When you're burning me, that's what you do
When you turn to me, need more days
And the time to turn you off.
Oh why don't you, why don't you, why don't you, why don't you, why don't you
turn to me baby, time to turn you off,
Turning me not burning me, turning me not burning me, now turning me not
burning me, yeahhhhhh.
Turning me, oh burning me now na-ba-dupa-ba-dupa-ba-dupa yeahhhhhh
Turn me, oh burning me, why don't you burn me yeahhhhh
Turn to me, that's what you say
When you're burning me, that's what you do,
When you turn to me, need more days
And the time to turn you off.
Turn to me, that's what you say,
When you're burning me, that's what you do,
When you turn to me, need more days
And the time to turn you off!!

The Declining Art Of Communication

We all seem to be living our lives
At an ever increasing pace.
We are finding less and less time
To meet up with people face to face.

You often read stories in the press,
About people being fired or dumped by text.
The way in which we communicate has changed so much,
That you do find yourself wondering 'Whatever next? '

There are some things, which by text or email,
You just really shouldn't say:
Like, if you're telling someone that they're no longer wanted,
Or that someone they know has just passed away.

You can check your email at your leisure,
Unlike if someone contacts you by phone,
But like they say, it's good to talk,
So you really shouldn't moan.

I love receiving letters on fancy paper from my friends,
And hear them dropping through my letterbox,
But the whole idea of 'snail' as opposed to email,
Is a concept which, nowadays, is often mocked.

If you're talking face to face,
You're less likely to get the wrong impression.
You can connect more to people's thoughts and feelings,
If you are able to read their facial expressions.

Tackling a sensitive subject with someone,
Often has us trembling with fear,
But is it really better for it to be discussed
Electronically, rather than ear to ear?

Sometimes, you can spend hours together,
During which time, very little of importance is said.
Then, later, you log on to your computer,
And discover all the gossip is on there instead!

If you put all of your news on Facebook,
You may find your face to face conversation is suddenly dead.
When you next meet up with someone and mention your news,
They will turn to you, and say 'Yeah, you said'!

The world of communication has come on in leaps and bounds,
But, in some ways, it has advanced too much.
Communication can now be so impersonal,
That we seem to have lost the human touch.

Baby Boomer

Mario's brother is dead. In Brazilia
of the green and yellow flag, at the matches
where we drink beer and watch them run.
All of a sudden. A shock.
Just when he was finally getting happy-
leaving behind a wife and child.

Who will fortunately want for nothing
except him, of course.
But that too passes. Everything does.
It makes us ashamed to be old
though we are not, in fact, that-
hailing from the generation that never dies.

'Thanks for sharing, ' I text.
'Joy is short and troubles abound.
There is still that ideal configuration
of Reality we call the Beautiful
and those who struggle to perceive it.'
-But it doesn't sound real. I delet it.

May he rest in peace, ' I next text,
and it sounds good, yes, this is it.
'May he rest in peace.'

Unsuccessfully waiting

Unsuccessfully waiting
~
There is a phone call
Still waiting to be made
A letter left unwritten
On a desk beside a frame
Where a picture waits to be placed
The are feelings existing
Words wanting to be said
Look to find a way to be heard
The is a song waiting on a chorus
With each verse yet to be writ
The ideas are beginnings
Without a first step made
A silence remaining unbroken
No message ever sent
A thought non really know
But a few may suspect
The are some excuses
None stand as an explanation
Why two hearts still wait
On a phone call to be made

The Art of Conversation (Fun Poem 126)

In today’s society something is missing,
the art of conversation.
Nearly everyone forty and under
has a phone in their hand,
call It a mobile or a cell
it doesn’t matter which.
They use it twenty-four seven
not only for talking, but texting.
You see them in a restaurant
texting the person opposite only a foot away.
They say they do it because of the noise
and the noise they refer to is other phones ringing.
However, they don’t realise just how silly they look.
What could take a few minutes
takes more minutes to text.
Sometimes they even forget what they are eating
and pop their phone in their mouth.
A phone doesn’t taste as nice as a juicy sirloin steak.
When they order their phone,
they could order different colours.
Brown like gravy,
red like tomato sauce,
yellow like mustard
and put them all on their steak
like a deck of cards,
then shuffle them as they wait
for the next text to arrive.
Silly yes and maybe one day
they’ll look around at everyone
fiddling with their phones
and realize just how funny they look
and the art of conversation
may come back again.
Fingers crossed that might happen
and instead of them thinking to themselves
that I’m never alone with a phone.

Turn It On

Reaching to another day
And the world is just one step away
Making money, aiming blind
Its time to change - leave it all behind
Turn it on - whenever you can
Turn it on - you know that you can
Hear the echos in you heart
Turn your mind in - then - make a start
Anything you want to be
Will soon become reality - then youll see
Turn it on - whenever you can
Turn it on - you know that you can
Youre out of touch - so turn it on
You dont need much - to burn it on
Take a different point of view
And discover just what you can do
Getting closer every day
Now the world is just a step away - (dontdelay)
Turn it on - whenever you can
Turn it on - you know that you can
You hit the top - so turn it on
Youll never stop - just burn it on
Turn it on (turn it on) - whenever you can
Turn it on (groovinon) - you know that you can
Turn it on (turn it on, yeah) - whenever you can
Turn it on (just movinon) - you know that you can
Turn it on
Turn it on
Turn it on
Turn it on

Turn Of The Screw

Do you feel the turn of the screw?
Pushing harder, breaking through
It's better than you ever knew
Now it gets to take care of you
I won't go and tell it
Don't bet you're due
It swings enough to know the truth
It even left you black and blue
Never stop when there's nothing left to do
The turn of the screw, the turn of the screw
The thing you said you'd never do
The turn of the screw, the turn of the screw
There's no backing out once you've turned the screw
You never thought what they say could be
One night alone and you would see
I think you'll take back all those doubts
Now you know what the talk was all about
The turn of the screw, the turn of the screw
The thing you said you'd never do
The turn of the screw, the turn of the screw
There's no backing out once you've turned the screw
Turn, Turn, Turn it around
Turn, Turn, Turn it here on the ground
Turn, Turn, Turn it around
Turn, Turn, Turn it here on the ground
The turn of the screw, the turn of the screw
The thing you said you'd never do
The turn of the screw, the turn of the screw

Turn To Me

Turn to me - when your heart breaks away
Turn to me - don't turn me away
When everything's sad and down
When you're looking for somewhere to run
Why don't you turn to me?
Turn to me
Why don't you turn to me?
Turn to me
Turn to me - when the moon gets to go
Turn to me - when the story's been told
When everything's dim and grey
And you're hitting a rainbow way
Why don't you turn to me?
Turn to me
Why don't you turn to me?
Turn to me
Now that christmas is here
A shadow of fears
And if you want to seek ....
Turn to me and read these lonely lonely eyes
Why don't you?
Why don't you turn to me?
Turn to me!

I Like The Way

(released as b-side of one more night single, 1985)
I look out the window every day, I see the world go by
Watching I sit and wait for you
Just hoping youll catch my eye
You see me stare but I dont care
I like the way you smile
One day Ill get to talk to you
Ooh, right now well Im too shy
But in my world of make believe
Youre the one what I need, oh, oh...
I could imagine me with you
But its an impossibility
Id love to try to realise, I gotta deal with reality
But if you turn my way, Id look away, ooh even face-to-face
And deep inside me, inside my mind
Someone else is trying to take my place
But in my world of make believe
Youre the one what I need, oh, oh...
Oh, come with me, Ill show you everything
Come with me, ooh
Come with me, Ill show you everything
It could be, come along with me and let me take you there, oh, oh...
I look out the window every day, I see the world go by
Watching I sit and wait for you
Ooh, just hoping that youll walk by
But if you turn my way, Id look away, ooh even face-to-face
And deep inside, ooh in my mind
Someone else is trying to take my place
In my world of make believe
Youre the one what I need, oh, oh...
Come with me, ooh
Come with me, Ill show you everything
It could be, come along with me and let me take you there, oh, oh...

When I feel that this old world
Is just to hard to bear
People comin' at me left and right
Day and night
Here's the thing I do
Turn the radio up
Hear the melody
Turn reality down
There's too much talk about blues
To much of the time
Turn the radio up
Hear the harmony
Turn the ngative down
Turn the radio up
Everything will be find
Worryin' don't do no good
So throw your cares away
Come on people life's too
Short to stay
Hey hey
Everybody now
Turn the radio up
Hear the melody
Play it all over town
There's to much talk about blues
Turn the bulletins down
Turn the radio up
Hear the harmony
Don't 'cha be so profound
Turn the radio up
It'll turn you around
Don't give in
No matter what they say
Out with the negative
You find the positive way
Hey, hey, hey
Turn the radio up
Up with harmony
Pandemonium down
There's to much talk about blues
All over this town
Hey, hey, hey
Turn the radio up
Hear the melody
Don't you be so profound
Turn the radio up
It'll turn you around
Turn the radio up
Turn the radio up
Turn the radio up
