The Question Remains Unanswered
Strange things happen in our lives
through each passing year.
As we get older, we reflect
on the reasons why they came.
She came into my life
first in my childhood,
but for some reason
no friendship flared.
The years then rolled on
to forty and more
and into my life,
she once again appeared.
It is hard to define
what we were both
looking for
on the second time around.
However, what we found
was a deep, caring friendship
that reached higher than
any parameters we could have set.
We knew one day further on
we would have to part again
when heaven called
for one of us to go.
I reflect now for a reason
why destiny brought us together
not once but twice.
However, the question remains unanswered.

We Knew But Didn’t Know
Occasionally people come into our lives,
people we knew but didn’t know.
We knew them from our early years
before life sent us in different directions.
Years would pass before we met again
with this person we knew but didn’t know.
The passing years had changed us both,
wiser but strangers no less.
In the exchanges that follows a friendship grows.
A friendship that was never there before
with this person we knew but didn’t know.
Everything happens for a reason
and the reason is not for us to know.
In meeting it changes us, ignites a flame within,
a flame of caring given a chance should have been.
Now in maturity we get to know that person
we knew but didn’t know.
What the future holds is as uncertain as tomorrow,
but we walk towards it with this friend,
a person we knew but didn’t know.

Happy New Year Everyone
As we venture towards another year,
I sit and reflect on the passing one.
A year that has been filled
with surprises from start to finish.
The biggest surprise
is the love and friendship
that has greeted me
from all the four corners of the world.
My cup runneth over
with the joys that it has brought
to this heart of mine.
It is hard to believe
and I am still pinching myself
to prove that it is real.
I could never have imagined
at this time last year. (2006)
that I would be writing this
to say thank you to everyone.
The joy of just one friend
is something to rejoice for,
but to having hundreds
is surely a blessing from God.
This year has taught me
many things about my life
and the way we should live.
Caring for others,
everyone we meet,
stretching out a helping hand
to everyone in need.
Never giving cross words,
there is no need for them,
when our love
will always make amends.
So yes, this passing year to me
has been a very memorable one.
Into the next, I’ll stride
with hope that I can help more
than I did this year.
Making more people smile
and bring more love and good cheer.
To all my friends out there
around the world
I am wishing you
a very happy and prosperous
New Year (2008) ahead.
If it is to be,
like this year for me.
It will certainly be a good
and Happy New Year indeed.

Sonnet: A Lost Friendship
You were my friend then: now almost stranger!
Our friendship appeared once very glorious;
What happened meantime, gives me great anger;
Our friendship no longer remains serious.
Fool you were, to be misled by others,
Who drove a giant wedge ’midst our friendship;
Cut off is our friendship, which me bothers;
A nadir has come in our relationship.
What years of intimacy have been lost?
You’ve been foolish, very much on your part;
Our friendship today is just but a ghost;
Won’t your eyes see the true love in my heart?
Dear friend however, you can’t be my foe;
I hope that our friendship, blossoms once more!

Friendship
Friendship
Friendship is love,
Without friendship love means nothing!
Without friendship love is empty…
Without friendship love is boring...!
Friendship means sharing…
People learn to share from friendship,
Share everything they have in life,
Friendship is like stars,
Even though we always see them together
Always mean to each other…
But,
Sometimes they argue!
Friendship is like flower,
Soft but strong!
Friendship is like sun,
Bright and beautiful!
Friendship is everything in life,
Life without friendship is like life without air…
Life without friendship is like eats without food
And
Life without friendship is like body without soul…
Friendship is wide!
Anybody can be our friend,
Our parents, our grandparents, our sister, our brother and even our school principal!
Friendship….
Is everything!

A Legacy
Sometimes we meet someone
through a family member
and immediately there is an attraction,
not a physical one,
but something much deeper.
As time passes, friendship ensues
and the person teaches you things
that you will never forget.
They help you through the awkward years
from teenager to adulthood.
You mature beyond your years
without losing your individuality.
I know this is true as it happened to me.
There was no song and dance,
just two lonely people meeting,
taking a chance on friendship,
gathering memories as they went.
Then illness overtook the elder
and they had to move away.
The younger never got the chance
to say a goodbye.
A chance meeting years later
at a busy bus stop brought pain
with the acknowledgement
they would never meet again,
knowing he could never say
just how much she had meant to him,
how their friendship had enriched his life
and helped him grow
even as he grew older.
Her memory remained alive,
which helped him through the difficult times
to go on and survive.
God had taken her to his side,
the reason he did not know why,
but in her passing she left so much behind.
She helped too much to mention
so her kindness he could pass on.
A legacy we all want to leave
and hope we are that strong.

Lost but found
We met as friends
but parted ways
to meet again
But alas things changed
and brought along pain
Not knowing the reason why
my life had changed
while I struggled
to come to terms
But slowly as the years rolled by
I stood up on my own
Never knew that there would
come a day to open my heart to you
I know that life has been kind
and brought me once again close to you
But my question to life is why?
Why have you given me another
chance to meet my long lost love
Not knowing the answer I still cling on to life..
Happy Friendship Day,2011
Good friendship is important in earthly life
True friendship is a rare find, lasting a life-time
Friendship is supportive, wholesome and priceless
Friendship must grow but is difficult to keep.
Friendship affords joy, solace and distraction
Friendship gives a better meaning to life
Friendship may deliver what parents sometimes fail to
Friendship is valuable, useful and advantageous.
Friendship makes the world a better place to live
Friendship makes living worthwhile, loveable and liveable
Friendship creates the right environs for sharing
The basis of good friendship is selfless, dedicated love of a special kind.

Reflections
As each year begins to close,
we reflect over the passing one
remembering the highlights
along with the year’s woes.
How things made us laugh
and the others that made us cry
the whole mixed bag
that we call a year gone by.
We look forward to the next
with eager expectations
reflecting on how we can
make more dreams come true
and all the time hoping that sadness
will miss our door.
Of making new friends to fill the gaps
where old ones have faded away.
All this we do as we reflect
on the passing of another year.

Largest Jigsaw Missing
You addressed me as your friend,
I addressed you as a brother from another mother.
I regarded us as Ireland's strongest companions
Since we always had each other.
I knew you since I was five,
You knew me since you were four.
As far back as Junior Infants
I sensed that, eternally, our friendship would soar.
Footballs were kicked,
Girls we talked.
Wild parties we attended
While we laughed at teens getting locked.
You were everything in my social life,
I couldn't imagine joy without you.
We were so close that the more the years passed,
The more the sound of our bond reached crescendo.
But on June tenth, after Ireland played Croatia,
What you said to me could not be forgiven.
I doubt the drink made you reveal your true colours,
After all the years of love and gifts I had given.
How dare you accuse me of a bad reputation? !
If so, why was it with me you always wanted to be?
I would never put girls before our friendship like you.
Even if you did find one from where you want one,
With a hundred other boys she would flee.
At least I wouldn't, eh?
Ten days later, just when all seemed lost,
You phoned me up five times,
All of which were left unanswered.
I didn't want to talk to you that night.
You're the reason our friendship cannot be plastered,
Not me. I didn't tell you what you told me.
You, my boy,
Are now the largest jigsaw missing from my heart.
My soul is crushed with you out of my face.
Now I envy the partnership of Milhouse and Bart.
Beg for forgiveness all you want.
I actually want to bring things to how they were, see?
But as long as you're still friends with the Hate Crowd,
You will always remain an enemy to me.
They encourage you to say what you said.
They planted the personal issues you've gained.
I'm afraid with that I cannot trust you.
I'm going to have to live a loner knowing
That my best-ever friendship has been brutally stained.

Things Happen For Their Reasons
Things happen for their reasons.
And there is no need to make excuses,
For the obviousness...
Of those mistakes made.
Things happen for their reasons.
And,
What is there to say...
That can excuse mistakes away.
Stop that need to medicate.
Things happen for their reasons.
Why waste time in prolonged debates.
Thing happen for their reasons.
What is the purpose for seeking escapes.
Things happen for their reasons.
Acceptance eases,
The facing of one's fate.
Things happen for their reasons.
They happen for their reasons.
Stop that need to feed on grief.
Things happen for their reasons.
Why squeeze a healing wound to bleed.
Things happen for their reasons
They happen for their reasons.
And aging doesn't make one safe.
Or offer escapades as a gateway to charade.
Things happen for their reasons.
They happen for their reasons.
Things happen for their reasons.
And there is no need to make excuses,
For the obviousness...
Of those mistakes made.
Even while one ages,
With a life reminisced played on many stages...
Try their best to gracefully accept,
Things happen for their reasons.
And those experienced,
Eventually see this.
Things happen for their reasons.
And in the living of one's life...
A discovery reveals,
Those reasons with insight.

Early Works - Mementos From Passing Lives
Little time capsules lie hidden
beneath the turmoil of passing lives.
Tiny mementos laid down
by strangers who passed this way
at some time in distant years.
An empty cigarette packet
someone enjoyed the contents,
but when the question remains unanswered.
Nuts, bolts, washers and screws
these mementos suggest something
and also another question.
Standing here, I stare around me
remembering my time here
and wondering what mementos
my life has left for strangers
in the future years.
Again another question
but not one I care to answer.

Ive Found A Reason
Written by ricky & kim wilde
Been a long time alone now
Only live every day on my own terms
Doing everything my way
If you dont understand you had to learn
You say you see a different world
That you dont believe in what I say
Now you walk into my world
Aware of the danger
But you wont turn away
Somewhere down the road I left a part of me behind
The girl you want to know left years ago
Before she lost her mind
You brought back the heart in me
I thought Id never find
cos I didnt care before
But now Ive found a reason
Baby, how did you find me
Ive been lost for so long without a trace
You came back to remind me
Got me back from a sad and lonely place
And all the ghosts have disappeared
Youve taken away the things Ive feared
Ive turned my back on all the pain
You gave me a reason to llive my life again
Somewhere down the road I left a part of me behind
The girl you want to know left years ago
Before she lost her mind
You brought back the heart in me
I thought Id never find
cos I didnt care before
But now Ive found a reason
You were there before my eyes
How could I have been so blind
Ive got one life
Ive been wasting time
You came to save this heart of mine
And all the ghosts have disappeared
Youve taken away the things Ive feared
Ive turned my back on all the pain
You gave me a reason to llive my life again
Somewhere down the road I left a part of me behind
The girl you want to know left years ago
Before she lost her mind
You brought back the heart in me
I thought Id never find
cos I didnt care before
But now Ive found a reason
Now Ive found a reason

In The Way Back Then
Seven years ago,
I went back to Canada
after forty-two years.
I walked down a road
to show my wife where I used to live.
The road was built on rolling hills
and as I came over one,
I knew instantly where I was.
Things had changed
in those forty-two years,
some would say
it was unrecognisable
from what I used to know,
but as soon as I started down the hill
things came back like yesterday.
It was as if I had never been away.
Memories of my childhood
instantly sprang to mind.
I found myself seeing things
not as the now,
but there were changes
from the way back then.
The memory flashes
brought a smile to my face
as I could visualise
all the friends I knew then,
the funny incidents that over my life
in the way back then.
All too soon, time
has a way of taking things back
and my memory reclined them
to the back door of my mind.

Your A Great Friend
I never real knew
What friendship was
Until I met you
You’re my best friend
To be a real friend
You have to trust to be a great friend
It takes more than caring
To be a real friend
I never real knew
What friendship was
Until I met you
You’re my best friend
You are a true friend
That is really kind
And knows how to cheer me up when im down
Your funny pretty
My family like you
I never real knew
What friendship was
Until I met you
You’re my best friend
If I never meet you
I think that today
I don’t think I would of knew what friendship was
I never real knew
What friendship was
Until I met you
You’re my best friend
We like to chill with each other
We like to chill with each other everyday
We like to tell each other everything
That is what best friends do
I never real knew
What friendship was
Until I met you
You’re my best friend

Forever Young
In life there is only one certainty
and that is one day we will die,
it is only a question of
how and when that remains a mystery.
Scientist the whole world over
would love to find the solution
that could extend our lives,
letting us live longer
yet remain in good health.
As the population now
is living longer with each passing year.
Four hundred years ago
if you were forty you were old,
but now at forty we are still young.
In another four hundred years,
people who are one hundred
may be classed as being young.
The world can only wait and see.

You See Friends (I See Lovers)
You said
This would never end
But I want you for more than just my friend
Yeah
And you said
This is hard to say
I never really looked at you that way
Getting scared, to tell you how I feel
Its not a passing thing I know its real
And if you have a reason
Not to move it on
So what about it baby
If you say no
Ill still be there
You keep running
Im still falling
You dont know this
Its something new my hearts discovered
You keep running
Ill keep calling
Till you notice
You see friends but I see lovers
You see friendship I see love
You see friendship I see love
Dont be scared
To let me in your heart
I've been there before
But I played a different part
And if you have a reason
Not to move it on
So what about it baby
If you say no
Ill still be there
You keep running
Im still falling
You dont know this
Its something new my hearts discovered
You keep running
Ill keep calling
Till you notice
You see friends but I see lovers
You see friendship I see love
You see friendship I see love
And if you have a reason
Not to move it on
So what about it baby
If you say no
Ill still be there
You keep running
Im still falling
You dont know this
Its something new my hearts discovered
You keep running
Ill keep calling
Till you notice
You see friends but I see lovers
Yeah, yeah, yeah
You want friendship I want love
You want friendship I want love
You want friendship I want love
You want friendship I want love
What is it I'm dreaming of?

Early Works - Time Out
Deep within the blackness
lay the barriers
known to all as time
with depths much deeper
than the boundaries of hell.
Within each boundary
lie one day,
one year,
and one century.
And still within the blackness
lies more barriers
known to all as the future
with heights higher than heaven,
which are guided by the hand of fate.
Time rules our lives
and fate rules time
to the extent
it causes destruction
or gives life to those in need.
Time can be a killer
and time can be a prayer,
time can be helpful
and time can be a menace.
Unlike anything on earth,
time has no ending,
where life can cease to be
time will carry on
even when all life has gone.
Time to us is just a word
for one cannot see time;
one cannot feel time,
though one can define time
as a passing.
We all live within a life cycle
where time is all around us.
Though we cannot see time,
it is a constant ruler
within our lives.
Time is measured for travel
in light,
in sound,
in speed.
Time is measured for life
in seconds,
in minutes,
in hours,
in years,
in centuries.
But time is only a word
and the meaning is so complex
that the real meaning
is hard
to explain.
Except that, life
as we know it
would never really
exist
without time.
Date Unknown
Authors Note:
Originally the title of this piece was Time, but I changed it for Time Out as I realised I had already written two later pieces with the same title. I believe this was written in the late 1960 and was the first piece with the title. On of my very early poems from the construction of it. Please do judge me too harshly because of it.

A True Friend
God knew that in my earth life,
I'd need a good true friend.
Someone extra special,
and He knew just who to send.
Thank you for your friendship,
and for always being there.
Friends like you are priceless,
not to mention, very rare.
Your door is always open
to extend a listening ear.
You go the extra mile,
every day of every year.
When this life is over,
and we meet in heaven's sky,
our friendship will continue,
for good friendships never die
