Such Is Life

When it comes to women
my life has never been that well.
I used to advertise myself
and on my tee shirt wrote.
(Front) Help me please.
(Back) Take me home I
make a good bed warmer.
Sadly, no takers came forward
and I wondered why
after all I was always good
at making a hot water bottle.
Such if life I guess.

Then I thought if you got it, flaunt it
and the police could not stop laughing
when they arrested me,
but they still gave me six months
for my try.
Finally, I managed to take a girl home with me,
but the parrot escaped and landed in her lap.
She did not like feathered friends
and she never came back after that.
Such is life I guess.

Nothing I did seem to work
in attracting a mate.
I went to funerals hoping to catch a widow’s eye,
but when one thought I was a corpse,
and tried to put me in the box with her departed,
I gave up after that.
I just could not understand why
women did not like me
after all I dressed like them
with a skirt and pinnie.
Such is life I guess.

I advertised in the newspapers
and my advert read
a man in need of a woman.
He is clever and witty
and is house trained as well.
I only had one reply
from a woman who said
I am pretty and petite
and I am only twenty-four.

We married in the month of June
and everything went well until it came to go to bed.
First, she unscrewed her leg and then her arm.
She then took out her glass eye
and her false teeth as well.
When she finished scraping off the make-up
my ravishing beauty of twenty-four
looked like an old hag of ninety-four.

Such is life such is my life.
Now I am left with a wife in the bed
and most of her bit on the floor.

A Married Man's A Fool

(Willie McTell)
Had a friend, Louie Brown, he was a deacon
Just as wise as he could be
Now I realized he could read the Good Book
Back from Revelations down to Genesis
You know last Sunday morning we was over to the church
My buddy wants to take him a stand
And he looks out upon that whole congregation
The Good Book in his hand
Now he cast his eye about, and then he looks over in the Amen Corner
All the sisters commenced to shout [What'd he say ?]
He said a married man's a fool to think that his wife love nobody else but him
She stick by you all your life the chances is mighty slim
Now you read the Good Book, chapter twenty-one:
Every married woman got to have a little fun
Read on over chapter twenty-two:
It's a sin to let that woman make a fool outta you
Now you read a little further, chapter twenty-three:
She two-time you, brother, like she double-crossed me
Read on back, over chapter ten:
She shimmy one time, you got the problem again
'Cause a married man's a fool to think that his wife
Loves nobody else but him, I mean, loves nobody else but him
Well, a married man's a fool to think that his wife
Loves nobody else but him
She stands by you all your life the chances is mighty and slim
Now you read on over twenty-fifth page:
Married womens, Lord, is hard to engage
Read kinda careful, chapter twenty-six:
Back door slamming you got to learn to get it fixed
Read on out, chapter twenty-eight:
Who's that back slidin' out through the back gate ?
I believe I'll close on chapter twenty-nine:
Woman get tired of the same man all the time
'Cause a married man's fool to think that his wife love nobody else but him

Pretty Woman

pretty woman walkin' down the street
Pretty woman, the kind i like to meet
Pretty woman, i don't believe you
You're not the truth
No one could look as good as you
Mercy
Pretty woman, won't you pardon me
Pretty woman, i couldn't help but see
Pretty woman, and you look lovely as can be
Are you lonely just like me
Pretty woman, stop a while
Pretty woman, talk a while
Pretty woman, give your smile to me
Pretty woman, yeah, yeah, yeah
Pretty woman, look my way
Pretty woman, say you'll stay with me
Cause i need you
I'll treat you right
Come with me baby
Be mine tonight
Pretty woman, don't walk on by
Pretty woman, don't make me cry
Pretty woman, don't walk away
Ok
If that's the way it must be, ok
I guess i'll go on home, it's late
There'll be tomorrow night
But wait, what do i see?
Is she walking back to me?
Yeah, she's walking back to me
O-oh
Pretty woman.

Twenty Years Ago

It's been a long time since I walked
Through this old town
But oh how the memories start to flow
And there's the old movie house
They finally closed it down
You could find me there every Friday night
Twenty years ago.
I worked the counter at the drugstore down the street
But nobody's left there I would know
On Saturday mornings that's where
All my friends would meet
You'd be surprised to know what a dime would buy
Twenty years ago.
All my memories from those days come gather round me
What I'd give if they could take me back in time
It almost seems like yesterday
Where do the good times go?
Life was so much easier twenty years ago.
I guess I should stop by Mr. Johnson's hardware store
His only son was my friend Joe
But he joined the army back in 1964
How could we know he would never come back
Twenty years ago...

Life On Your Own

Winter is approaching
Theres snow upon the ground
Its good of you to visit me
Im glad you came around
I dont know how you found me
I didnt let you know
I only moved to this address
I guess you think I ran out
But thats not true
Other people settle down
I never do
I always have to move on
Just have to go
Ive often wondered why that is
Id like to say but I just dont know
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
Up here the summers shorter
And winters very cold
Im looking forward to the peace
My lonely life will hold
Im really glad you came here
Thank you for the talk
Its funny how my problem stopped
When we went for a walk
Standing here together
Means so much
I wont forget your confidence
I wont forget your touch
You know Ill come to see you
Passing through
Well always be a world apart
Ill travel on but I will be true
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own
I guess you always wanted
Life on your own

I'm sorry for my suicidal note...

Good bye, Good luck, and I'm sorry
The bloods rushing to fast
I can't plug it
So now I will chug it
And my pills are blocking my door

Don't wait, Say goodbye, and I'm sorry
It's filling my empty stomach
I saw my life
Gave into my strife
And the bottle is my only resolve

Don't stop me, Don't cry, and I'm sorry
Wait,
now I'm going triple fold
The knife is now in my hold
As I rake this across my skin

It's okay, Don't look back, and I'm sorry
It tastes just as nasty as you said
I wrote this note
Thinking you needed a coat
But I guess I'm still leaving you cold

I'm fine, Stop listening, and I'm sorry
I guess it was as bad as you thought
As I closed my door
And scattered my instruments on the floor
I know I will never sing anymore

Don't worry, I can't tell you, and I'm sorry
All my secrets you will never know
As I scream silently
And give up finally
And the blood coats the carpet

Don't give up, It's not worth it, and I'm sorry
I guess all my advice was useless
I ended up losing
And ended up choosing
The death of a lost and stupid soul

Don't try, I'm not listening, and I'm sorry
I wanted to give to the world
But now I'll be dead
Already in my head
And I'm almost done with suicide note

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
My visions starting to blur
I must hurry and write
And with with all my might
End this suicidal note

I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry
I don't see that vision of light
I guess God's left me, that's fair
And I must despair
Now the torture, I guess, must begin

I'm truly sorry, truly sorry, truly sorry
My hands feel so numb and dead
I must leave soon
I'm headed toward my doom
I think life still wasn't worth this

Forgive me, I'm sorry, forgive me....
I must say I'm sorry you've found me
But the sky is stil as starry
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry
So please, tell everyone I'm so sorry

This was written by me, but I'm close, but I havent totally given up, this is just what I'm thinking....

Whos That Man

(toby keith)
Turn left at the old hotel
I know this boulevard much too well
It hasnt changed since I been gone
Oh, this used to be my way home
They paved the road thru the neighborhood
I guess the county finally fixed good
It was gettin rough
Someone finally complained eneogh
Fight the tears back with a smile
Stop and look for a little while
Oh its plain to see
The only thing missing is me
Thats my house & thats my car
Thats my dog in my back yard
Theres the window to the room
Where she lays her pretty head
I planted that tree out by the fence
Not long after we moved in
Thats my kids and thats my wife
Whose that man, runnin my life
If I pulled in would it cause a seen
There not really expectin me
Those kids have been thru hell
I hear they adjusted well
Turn around in the neigbors drive
Id be hard to recognise
In this pick-up truck
Its just an old fixer up
Drive away one more time
Lot of things going thru my mind
I guess the less things change
The more they never seem the same
Thats my house & thats my car
Thats my dog in my back yard
Theres the window to the room
Where she lays her pretty head
I planted that tree out by the fence
Not long after we moved in
Thats my kids and thats my wife
Whose that man, runnin my life

Woman Thou art Free

To be a woman there are certain characteristics that you embody
That set you apart, ain't nothing like a strong woman with a good heart.
Some say they curse the day God made woman, but only God understand that he created it
for us to see the good and the bad, life for some without a woman is really sad.
The woman was made to feel the pain and the man to work the land.
But in everything God had a plan.

Women have come a long way from the kitchen to the runway.
Women have broken down all barriers,
and have proven to be able to compete at all levels, so much that it marvels.
Women's long battle for equality and right have gotten them to unite.
Their strength and unity have given them the courage to embrace every opportunity
under the social and economical horizon;
they are now prospering over the men in the dozens.
They now take full advantage for all the times they've been denied passage.

Women have become leaders, more than conquerors,
strong educators, powerful motivators and labourers.
Yet women have not forgotten their role in the home, though some are not full-time.
A little independence is not a crime. But still they are able to make the house a home,
put food on the table, keep their lives stable
for at the end of the day, at home is where their hearts will always stay
so we thank God for Women's Day.

The Real Life

Suzanne divorced her husband
She got the keys and the car and the home
But her friends were really his friens
No one stops by to see her much any more
So one night, she goes back down to
The old haunts
That once upon a time were her own
She didnt know nobody out there no
More
And the whole experience just made her
Feel so old
She says
I want to live the real life
I want to life my life close to the bone
Just because im middle-aged that
Dont mean
I want to sit around my house and watch tv
I want the real life
I want to live the real life
Jackson jackson was a good kid
He had four years of college
And a bachelors degree
Started workin, when he was 21
Got fed up and quit
When he was 43
He said, my whole life
Ive done, what I supposed to do
Now id like to maybe do something
For myself
And just as soon, I figure out what
That is
You can bet your live
Im gonna give it hell
He says
I want to live the real life
I want to life my life close to the bone
Just because im middle-aged that
Dont mean
I want to sit around my house and watch tv
I want the real life
I want to live the real life
I guess, it dont matter, how old you
Are
Or how old one lives to be
I guess, it boils down to what we did
With our lives
And how we deal with our own
Destinies
But something happens
When you reach a certain age
Particularly to to those ones, that are
Young at heart
Its a lonely proposition when you
Realize
That theres less days in front of the
Horse
Than riding in the back of this cart
I say
I want to live the real life
I want to life my life close to the bone
Just because im middle-aged that
Dont mean
I want to sit around my house and watch tv
I want the real life
I want to live the real life.

Precious Box

In my house there's a circle, where the life comes in
From the stars to my home, down through the stone,
I could have been so alone,
Without my precious box
Have I a family? I guess not
I've never seen a lot of beauty
In my life.
Well in your house there are servants, and the lights all dim
Such a beautiful home, your agent's on the phone, they never
leave you alone
The party never stops!
You say that's fantasy, I say So what, I need a little beauty
So let me in,
You know you've kind of got under my skin
You know we never see a lot of the action round here
My dear
You may want to strip again
And you look so fine in your Gucci suit
And you're making more money than your daddy
could have imagined
But people can go out of fashion, honey, yeah, any time
So take that picture, stop acting so dumb
Don't you know that the moment will come
I will find someone like you
But with something extra, I'm sorry baby
I don't know why
I don't know why that is
The systematic breakdown of my community
You know I hate my job, I try to save but God
There's just never enough
Switch on, the pressure - stops
You know the one for me, she's on Fox
And she's a little beauty
Give me your life, give me your life, I want it
Because lately, it's so freezing out here
(This side of the glass, life keeps kicking my ass)
In so many ways, but you make it good
Made me the kind of happy that my baby never could
(This side of the glass)
So take that picture, stop acting so dumb
Don't you know that the moment will come
I will find someone like you
But with something extra, I'm so sorry baby
I don't know why
I don't know why that is
Precious keeps me company
Keeps me from being alone
Because no-one comes in the morning
No-one comes in the evening time
I'd sit and wait for the phone to ring
I could be waiting my whole damn life
So sick of the same old faces
In this street, where nobody talks to me
And the funny side of the situation is
I don't care, I'll always be there
When you come down from the sky
And make yourself at home
In my house
Because these days it's the money the money
The money, honey, or your life
I said don't you know you can't have both
Stop acting so dumb
The moment will come
I will find someone like you
Something extra, (always happens baby to me) sorry baby
I don't know why (something)
Said I don't know why that is
You may want to strip again
You may want to let me in
You may want to sacrifice
More than you think is fair or right
You may want to think again
You may want to watch your friends
You may want to change your mind
You may wish you could turn back time.

A-hole

When I came home my stuff was on the lawn
I thought she was happy
But I was wrong
The note she left it took me be suprise
Said I'd turned into
Some other guy
The things she says that she gave up for me
she says it was a waste of her time
Guess I dont really know
What I was thinking
Would have thought we would float
But we kept sinkin' in
Things were so good
You were in love
With some other guy
He looked just like me
But I make you cry
You know I dont mean to
I'm just an asshole sometimes
I never saw myself as being alone
And maybe that was my problem
Cause now shes gone
And I cant help but think of how things could be
And I hope shes happy
Happy without me
And all the things that she gave up for me
I took for granted time after time
Guess I dont really know
What I was thinking
Would have thought we would float
But we kept sinkin' in
Things were so good
You were in love
With some other guy
He looked just like me
But I make you cry
You know I dont mean to
I'm just an asshole sometimes
And please dont think I'm complaing
I was just happy to have her for a time
And if you see her I'll tell her I said
Hello and that I'm doin just fine
Guess I dont really know
What I was thinking
Would have thought we would float
But we kept sinkin' in
Things were so good (Things were so good)
You were in love (you were in love)

Epiphany

EPIPHANY
Looking outside I could only see the darkness approach
Looking into my life I could see my own reproach
So I thought by looking into her eyes I would see what I had
For in a moment it would all be lost.
Gone in a second, tossed away, laid to down like the dust on dry lands

I looked to my side one more time
I looked in to her eyes for the very last time.
All I wanted was to see was the beauty inside.
Life was her name, a gift I had
Life was her name, a jewel I took for granted
And there she was flashing before my eyes

I looked into my life and I saw a monster inside
With a gander, I saw the emptiness inside
A sea so great, a cup full to the brim, full of nothing but sweet delights
Delighted in a moment but never satisfied
Delights I deemed the light, pleasures that assured me treasures
But at the end of it all, just another foggy night
So misguided by another mirage in sight

I thought I was safe because I kept running
Running away from the pain and insecurities
I thought I was secure because I felt unassailable
Unassailable because every bottle I popped whispered me hope and every woman on my lap reassured me a magnate
I thought I was untroubled because I was able to grapple
Grapple onto shattered dreams, my own jigsaw that I kept in a box

They told me YOLO, guess I did it well
Lived each moment to the fullest, the best this world to offer
But still my life had no meaning; even the mirror called me a hopeless endeavour.
If this was my last what would be left of my legacy
Empty bottles? Blurry nights? Pretty women under covers?
Surely there had to be more to life
Wish I had seen a life worth living and dying for.

To My Dear Wife, Mercy, On Our 21st Marriage Anniversary

Twenty one years of married life
Have rolled off rather peacefully,
Although marred by some kind of strife,
In the twenty first century!

Life did not go on like our dreams;
But it was worthwhile and lovely;
It couldn’t give smiles or laughter beams,
But stood the test of time surely!

It could have been better than this,
Had we planned it accordingly?
It gave us woes more than the bliss;
Let’s hope the future is merry!

We had our times of happiness;
We had our days of anxiety;
God gave us light amidst darkness;
We toiled our way up righteously!

Let’s count our blessings, grace of God;
Let’s move ahead with hope and love;
Life’s numbers are even and odd;
’Tis time we thought of God above!

The days we passed were fairly good;
We may have failed in some ways still;
We dressed well, ate such dainty food;
We rarely fell seriously ill!

Life cannot happen as we want;
Some changes, we can always make;
Praises to God, let’s sing and chant;
We ate but have still our life’s cake!

Yet, God was kind often to us;
Our children are our wealth real;
From now on, there is no more fuss;
The Giver will our heart-wounds heal!

So, cheer up lady, my dear wife!
Not once did we have chance to cry;
More joy will rain in future life;
Together, we will live and die!

(ry cooder/russ titelman/washington phillips)
Whenever you find a man that loves every woman he sees,
Theres always some kind of woman thats a-puttin him up a tree.
Now that kind of man, he aint got as much sense as a mule.
You know, everyone dont love you, theyre just a-playin you for a fool
Mmmm, oh, no,
Its not hard for you to understand.
True love can be such a sweet harmony
If you do the best that you can.
If you marry the wrong kind of woman and you get where you cant agree,
Well, you just as well could get your hat and let that woman be.
But a man oughta make a good husband and quit tryin to lead a fast life.
Goin about dressin up other women wont put clothes on his own wife
Well, theres lots of good women who wants to marry, and they want to live well at home.
But theyre fraid theyll might get hold of a rowdy man, cant let other women alone.
And theres lots of good men wants to marry, and they wants to live well at home.
But every time they turn their back, theres another man there askin, darlin, is he gone?

Uneventful Life

We all say at times we live uneventful lives
and I am no exception to that rule.
However, looking back
at the uneventful events in my life
I see my life might not be as uneventful as I thought.
At thirteen
I won an inter-school competition
for a painting that I did
and had, it exhibited
at the Royal Canadian National Exhibition.
Up until I was seventeen,
I never wanted to drive a car.
The thought of doing so
terrified me completely,
then one night while out with some friends
we were involved in a head-on car crash.
In the weeks that followed, I learned to drive.
At eighteen
I took up writing after saying to a friend,
“If they can do it why can’t we? ”
The reference of they was to the Beatles.
At twenty-one
while at a fun fair
I wrote what was suppose to be some lyrics,
but turned out to be a poem
that eventually would be my best loved poem
and read by thousands worldwide.
At twenty-five,
I attended the funeral of a friend
and eventually ended up marrying his widow.
At fifty-five,
I discovered a brother I never knew I had.
At sixty-one,
a classmate contacted me,
lifting me from the doldrums turned my life around.
Someone whom I never talked to
when we were at school,
but who has become a wonderful friend
and extension of my family.
If you take away these little events,
my life has been pretty boring
bordering on the mundane
and very uneventful.

Authors Note:
This is just a few of the uneventful things that have happened in my life. There are more, but to put them in one poem would make it too long to put up here. Thanks for reading about my uneventful and very boring and mundane life.
