Our Memories

Sometimes we sit in a chair,
while across our face
falls a vacant stare.
Our mind searches our memories,
and worlds within there.
It searches the faces of old friends,
who are no longer here,
looking for happy times,
we enjoyed long ago.
Then for a brief few moments,
the memories surface
from the back roads of our mind,
and those happy times and old friends
are back with us once again.

Back Roads Of My Mind

Your memories fill each waking hour
You face fills each and every thought
Of the times we had together
That surface from the back roads of my mind

I remember the fields of bluebells
Where we used to walk hand in hand
The trees we used to lean upon
While we rested for a while

All these things and more linger for eternity
And you will find them
Written with a special love
On the back road of my mind

They were written with love’s pen
And if you look close into my eyes
You will see them there all the time
Written on the backs roads of my mind

Your memories are anchored there
Never straying away
Resting with love forever
On the back roads of my mind

Memories in the mind

Memories are made in the mind,
and there if you search, you will find.
There in the mind, so many things,
so many memories it brings.

So many years have passed,
of our youth, away we have cast
some memories happy, some memories sad,
memories have I, when I was a lad.

Memories have I, of a dog named shep,
memories of him, when he kept in step.
Memories of my friends, when we played,
of those days, for ever memories relayed.

Memories of family and fun,
when we talked until the setting of sun.
Memories of washing our fifty-seven Ford,
and wanting things we couldn't afford.

Memories are made in the mind,
long lost, search and you will find,
memories of days gone by,
searching memories, oh how you try.

Memories will fade out,
you have forgotton, what it's about,
memories lost in the mind,
dig them out and you will find.

Do I Ever Cross Your Mind

Oh, sometimes I go walking through fields where we walked
Long ago in the sweet used to be
And the flowers still grow, but they don't smell as sweet
As they did when you picked them for me
And when I think of you and the love we once knew
How I wish we could go back in time
Do you ever think back on old memories like that
Or do I ever cross your mind
Oh, how often I wish that again I could kiss
Your sweet lips like I did long ago
And how often I long for those two loving arms
That once held me so gentle and close
And when I think of you and the love we once knew
How I wish we could go back in time
Do you ever recall these old memories at all
Or do I ever cross your mind
When old memories appear my eyes wont stay clear
When I think of those happier times
Do you ever recall these old memories at all
Or do I ever cross your mind
Do you ever think back on old memories like that
Or do I ever cross your mind

November

How can it be November when it seems January has just passed?
Though it is a special time to be thankful for memories amassed.
Think of all the good times shared with family and friends.
Remember that time steals them away so be sure to make amends
For thoughtless actions and words against these who are dear.

Thank them for the love and kindness which they have kept near.
Forgive them for their errors and faults by cleansing your mind
So that good times with family and friends is all there is to find.
Since happy days or unhappy days are often by one’s definition,
Know you are always in charge of choosing the correct rendition.

If you decide to be happy all will benefit from your style of living
Since every day in every way you’ll wish “Happy Thanksgiving! ”

Asking Myself Why

I sat down to write a letter
to an old friend of mine,
someone I had not seen
for thirty or forty years.
Only realizing as I put pen to paper
how the years had flown by,
though it only seem like yesterday
we had met on the street
and had a long chat together.
I realized then to my regret
that I did not know if
they were alive or dead.
If they were gone,
yet another thread to my past
had disappeared forever.
A curtain of sadness fell over me
as my memories re-enacted
moments from so long ago,
moments that will never return.

My pen hovered above the paper
and no words could I write
as my mind clouded with memories
of friends I had let go.
It's so easy to say see you later,
when half the time we never do.
Then comes today like now
and you realise there maybe no later.
Those friends of yesterday maybe gone
and only reside within your memories.
Tears glazed my eyes
and I gave a silent sigh.
I wondered how may more times
will I ask myself why
in the passing of time.
Why I just sat and let them go.

Memories

Memories of good times
Memories of bad times
Memories of our love
So many memories

Memories of us crying
Memories of us laughing
Memories of our commitment
So many memories

Memories of us hugging
Memories of us kissing
Memories of those late nights
So many memories

Memories of how we met
Memories of how you left
Memories of what you said
So many memories

Why did you leave me
with so many memories
Did you ever realize
that my memories are yours

Everything we did together
stays within our memories
I remember getting hurt
Do you hurt too

Let's make a new memory
that we can both share
Let's love again
in our memories

Rose tinted recollections

I would that those who wish might go
back to their childhood innocence
but I am wise enough to know.
That looking back makes little sense.
The memories you cherish now
are merely vignettes which express
the happy times: Hiding below
are recollections you suppress.
The things you don’t want to recall.
The times of abject misery.
If you went back you’d face them all
Each long forgotten memory.
Given the opportunity
I could refuse quite easily.

Memory Walkway

O how I miss those times
Those times with you
Those times when i felt so happy
Those times when we were both so happy
And now it's all gone
And we can't get it back
It's all gone
Forever
O how I wish i could go back
And relive my mistakes
Relive those times
Be happy again
For once
In my life I was happy
Nothing else could've brought me down
Until the day that it ended
The day it all cam crashing down on me
Everything died
Nothing was fine
Everybody thinks I'm happy
But how could I be?
Use your common sense people
Can't you all see that I'm not happy?
Memory Walkway
O how I miss those times

Forever Together

There it stands.
That fateful tree.
The tree out in the field,
the one from when I was a child.
The one where I spent endless hours doing nothing.
The tree that I did homework at.
This tree holds so many memories.
Enough to fill it from the top to bottom.
Happy memories, sad memories, angry moments,
All the good times and all the bad.
This is the tree of love.
Where I had my first kiss.
Three times...
This is the tree where I was born.
This is the tree that I will be buried under.
I love this tree.
It loves me.
We know each other so well.
Our hearts are one.
They have been for quite some time,
but Here I come.
Wait no longer lone tree.
I will be with you forever now.
It's been awhile hasn't it?
The police took their sweet time didn't they?
That isn't a factor now.
We are in the process of being united.
It won't be long now.
Forever together.
It won't be long.
Forever.
Forever...

Memories

Memories
All I have is memories
All I have is memories
Memories of you
Now youre gone
They linger on, these memories
All these precious memories
Memories of you
How they linger in the twilight
In the morning in the small hours
Just before dawn
Memories
Of summer days so long ago
People in the places
That we used to know
Oh those memories
How they linger in the twilight
And in the wee small hours
Sometime just before the dawn
Oh those memories
Oh happy times those memories
All I have now is memories
Memories of you
Oh memories
All those precious memories
All I have is memories
Memories of you

In The Back Of My Mind

Im blessed with everything
A world to which a man can cling
So happy times when I break out in tears
In the back of my mind I still have my fears
I live my life with her
Love her true she knows Im sure
I make her happy just living so plain
In the back of my mind Im fraid its gonna change
I tried to run far way from thoughts
I should try to keep away
But they just keep coming back to me
I tried to rationalize
But some day I might realize
That things are just good the way theyll be
I know its so hard to find
A girl who really understands your mind
What will I do if I leave her
It will always be way in the back of my mind

Oh Happy Days

Oh happy days,
Everyone likes you.

Oh happy days,
Please stay today.

Oh happy days,
Sweet like honey.

Oh happy days,
loving family ties.

Oh happy days,
Giving us strength.

Oh happy days,
Children out playing.

Oh happy days,
On the green grass.

Oh happy days,
With boundless optimism.

Oh happy days,
I give thanks.

Oh happy days,
Dreaming for more.

Oh happy days,
Warm and bright.

Oh happy days,
Like love eternal.

Oh happy days,
And glad memories.

Oh happy days,
New hope prayers.

Oh happy days,
With smiling faces.

Oh happy days,
Holidays and health.

Oh happy days,
With close friends.

Oh happy days,
Generous and giving.

Oh happy days,
Shiny rainbow dreams.

Oh happy days,
Till the very end.

Oh happy days,
Always and forever.

Amen.

Maelstrom Of Memories

Walking down a street
where we lived many years ago,
the faces behind the doors
are not the same anymore.
As we walk, we look back
at a time that inherited our name.
Remembering the times there
in the maelstrom of memories
that come flooding back
to haunt us with faces
of that long ago.
Our head spins as we walk
stepping back into our yesterdays
with its happiness, sadness
and grief that came our way.
We stumble over things
we had forgotten long ago
as we are overtaken
in a maelstrom of memories.

The Way Old Friends Do

YOU AND I CAN SHARE
THE SILENCE
FINDING COMFORT TOGETHER
THE WAY OLD FRIENDS DO
AND AFTER FIGHTS
AND WORLDS OF VIOLENCE
WE MAKE UP WITH EACH OTHER
THE WAY OLD FRIENDS DO

TIMES OF JOY
AND TIMES OF SORROW
WE WILL ALWAYS
SEE IT THROUGH
OH I DON┬┤T CARE
WHAT COMES TOMORROW
WE CAN FACE IT TOGETHER
THE WAY OLD FRIENDS DO

TIMES OF JOY...

Ode to The Scent Of Cinnamon

The heady scent of cinnamon
Upon the opening of the door
The tugging out of memories
From the mind’s musty store

The warm, soft smell of pie crust
Upon the opening of the oven
The revisiting of the memories
The huggin’ and the lovin’

The aromatic aura of apples
Baked with a crispy honeyed glaze
The remembering of the memories
Kitchen memories, happy days

The Smell of hot peach cobbler,
The tantalizing odor of allspice
The callin’ back of the memories
Kitchen memories, warm and nice

Red and white checkered aprons,
Flour dappled, love lined faces
The tearful tug of way old memories
Memorable kitchens, happy places

The heady scent of cinnamon
Upon the opening of the door
Is one of the bestest of my memories
And likely will be… forever more

Ahhh…The heady scent of cinnamon!

Broken

I am broken,
You just can't see it,
Maybe because you are blinded how happy I am pretending to be,
You broke me once,
Yet broke me twice,
Yet again three times,
and again four and five times,
Yet you don't see why I was taking you back,
It was cause I was falling in love with you,
Why did you have to go,
Why did you leave me with all this sadness, sorrow and agony
You left me with so much to say,
You had hurt me enough,
Why is that I can't get you off of my mind,
There is so many words I wanna say to you,
Yet it won't come out,
Why is that I am so alone,
I feel as if I am num,
Why can't you see that I am broken,
Broken with this heart break you had left me,
Yet I still have memories of you and I and how happy I used to be,
Why can't see that I did loved you and cared for you,
I guess it was fate that you and I don't belong with each other,
But I will always remain broken.

Happy Childhood Memories

Happy childhood memories the best memories of all
And my younger years in Millstreet I will always recall
On evenings in Summer up to the mid Fall
In the Townpark at the West End we played gaelic football
My friends of my youth where might they be today
Like me have the years left them balder and gray
Though some of them in the home Parish did stay
In life one might say we just went our own way
Since those days so many years have come and gone
And time does not wait it just ticks on and on
Many of the friends of my youth I may not see again
Though good memories of them with me does remain
And in fancy I chase the football up and down
With my happy young friends in the Park of the Town.

Please Come Back

Another lonely night and I don't know what to do
I've lost everything including you.
I look out the window and gaze at the sky
Recalling memories of you and I.

My eyes fill with tears cause the memories
Hurt so bad.
People ask why I'm lonely and why I am so sad.

When you lose your family, friends and job too
There is nothing left, nothing to do.
But the worst part was losing you.

How could I have let this destroy our love
You was the only thing I wasn't thinking of.
I chose to ignore you while I was in my gloom
And our love ended too soon.

You are the one thing that I need ' you see'
So please, please, come back to me.
In our anger and hurt, we do things
Without really thinking about them
And we wind up hurting 'our loved ones and friends.'

Please recall the good times we had
Before I lost my mind
For I had plans to be with you
Till the ends of time.

So please, please come back to me!

Rolling Back

Today has been a day
for rolling back the roads
I have travelled down before.
Seeing the faces again
locked away in my memory store.

Today has been a day
for rolling back times gone by,
remembering with some sadness
the tears on occasions
that leaked from my eyes.

Today has been a day
for rolling back the past times
and the mistakes I made
and of the chances I had
but that were never taken.

Today has been a day
for rolling back the memories
and of the good fortune I have had
and to smile with pride
at the future I now have.

The Best Of Times

Tonights the night well make history, honey, you and i
And Ill take any risk to tie back the hands of time
And stay with you here tonight
I know you feel these are the worst of times
I do believe its true
When people lock their doors and hide inside
Rumor has it its the end of paradise
But I know, if the world just passed us by
Baby I know, you wouldnt have to cry
The best of times are when Im alone with you
Some rain some shine, well make this a world for two
Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime
Well take the best, forget the rest
And someday well find these are the best of times
These are the best of times
The headlines read these are the worst of times
I do believe its true
I feel so helpless like a boat against the tide
I wish the summer winds could bring back paradise
But I know, if the world turned upside down
Baby, I know youd always be around
The best of times are when Im alone with you
Some rain some shine, well make this a world for two
Our memories of yesterday will last a lifetime
Well take the best, forget the rest
And someday well find these are the best of times
These are the best of times
And
So my friends well say goodnight for time has claimed its prize
But tonight will always last
As long as we keep alive memories of paradise...
