My Canadian Chronicles 23
Woke up this morning
feeling a twinge of regret
with only five days left
of the most wonderful holiday
that my wife and I have ever had.
The people we have met
are now friends forever
and there will be sadness
when we have to leave them
and make our journey home.
We can only hope
in the not to distant future
we will get the chance
to meet up together again.

From a shaky start, I can see
this is going to be a wonderful holiday.
Woke up this morning at my usual time,
four o’clock in the morning.
It maybe cooler than what we left,
but that does not bother me.
The warmth of anywhere
comes from the company you keep.
Here is no exception
and the company is great.
My dreams one by one
are beginning to come true.

Infinite Moment
Sometimes something magic happens,
two people meet who are worlds apart.
They meet by chance
and each touch the others heart.
We can give no explanations
except to say that it does
and that is what happened to me.
When I went on holiday,
we were strangers until we hugged
one another in an airport far away.
In that infinite moment
our lives changed forever,
we became closer than we had ever been.
When we eventually parted
if was if we were family.

Togetherness Is Gone
My wife,
Stop cleaning the house
Please come here
To accompany me
My husband,
The house is dirty
We aren't able to pay the maid
You've already retired
My wife,
Don't cook
It's a holiday
Let us eat outside the home
My husband,
Don't eat outdoors
We need efficient
You've already retired
My wife,
Let's keep me company
Why the rush to sleep
It's still early
My husband,
I have to get up early
To clean the house
And prepare breakfast
My wife,
I have to go this morning
My friends were waiting
Long we don't meet
My husband,
Be careful on the road
Greetings for your friends
But, why not breakfast?
My wife,
You have fallen asleep last night
I see you sleeping soundly all
I don't have the heart to wake you
My husband,
I'm sorry
I don't welcome you home
But, why should sleep on the sofa?
My wife,
I have to go again
I have social activities
With my old friends
My husband,
Don't forget dinner at home
You look very dapper
Although not wear perfume
My wife,
sorry, we were very busy
I had dinner with friends
Happy dinner, dear
My husband,
I woke up too early
But you're not at home
Where are you?
My wife,
I came home at midnight
I have to go early in the morning
I don't have the heart to wake you
My husband,
I just finished washing clothes
I've found the clothes that you wear today
But, why the smell of perfume?

New Year
Farewell to the old year forever,
And all its sorrows and care
We'll bury in our hearts, and endeavor
New troubles and trials to bear.
The old year has gone with its sadness,
In oblivion to dwell evermore;
The new year will come with its gladness,
To welcome the rich and the poor.
Ah, welcome the new year with pleasure,
And welcome home friends, that is dear;
Be happy and joyful together,
And greet each happy new year.
Some people will meet in sadness,
For death has entered their home,
And robbed them of joy and gladness,
And left them forsaken and lone.
Young people not meet it in sorrow,
For their hearts are blithesome and gay,
Trouble will come with to-morrow,
So let them be happy to- day.
Farewell to the old year forever;
Lay its sorrows aside with a tear.
Think of the future; and endeavor
To greet each happy new year.

One More Chance
If I could only relive yesterday
I think I'd try to do it right
If I had one more chance to be with you
I think it just might save my life
Chorus:
Just one more chance
And I will be your love forever
One more chance, one more chance
Just one more chance
And I will be your love forever
One more chance, one more chance
I'm caught it the same old world
And I just can't get my head unwhirled
And I'm looking for any old place to hide
I took a journey down thru paradise
I think I'd like to make it twice
I took another journey yesterday
I hope it just won't ruin my life
Chorus:
Just one more chance
And I will be your love forever
One more chance, one more chance
Just one more chance
And I will be your love forever
One more chance, One more chance
(repeat twice)

Starry Skies
Winter nights are cold,
And you're feeling old,
Stuck under the overpass,
You just can't get past,
Life wastes away,
As you go grey,
Future looking bleak,
As you try to stay meek,
What is the point of all this,
You should try to find your bliss!
You're stuck in your cars,
While I'm looking at the stars,
You're in a traffic jam,
While I'm being a man,
Too alive to contrive,
The lie that you're alive,
Wake up and breathe,
It's almost time to leave,
What should you seek?
Is there time for us to meet?
What could I say to you?
If only my heart knew!
Sitting in a distant land,
Trying to look grand,
Feeling real sad,
Sometimes I make you mad!
Stuck in your cars, I'm looking at the stars,
In a traffic jam while I'm being a man,
Too alive to contrive, the lie that you're alive,
Wake up and breathe, it's time to leave,
Taillights blink and you turn to drink,
Future is escaping as quick as a wink,
Living to fight another day,
I don't like to see you this way,
Don't want to leave things like this,
It is you that I will always miss,
Time to be alive and love each other,
Wish we could be friends again, brother,
So it is peace that I wish for you that struggle,
Trying so hard to keep it together,
Maybe we are meant to find our own path,
What will we find in the aftermath?
On your chest they will leave a scar,
Then I'll see you on a distant star!

Sleepless In Portsmouth
Two o’clock in the morning,
four hours before I go to work
and I cannot sleep.
My mind is filled with images
that should not really be there.
We are standing in an airport my wife and I
in a different country
looking for faces I hope I might recognise.
There are people all around us,
but those we are looking for
they are not there.
My wife is getting panicky.
We are strangers in a strange land.
For a month, I have had no contact
with those whom we are to meet.
I keep thinking of my friends
and wondering
have they forgotten me?
It is just a dream
I hope that will not turn into reality.
Still I am not tired
no matter what I do.
I close my eyes again,
but still no sleep comes.
Even if I can fall asleep,
the desertion dream comes again.
Nothing wants to make it go away.
Here I sit cigarette in one hand
and a cup of coffee in the other,
sleepless in Portsmouth.
Anxious.
Hoping what I am dreaming
isn’t going to come true.
Excitement some might call it,
but dread is my word for it.
The loss of communication
points to its possibility.
Is what I am dreaming a warning
of my future reality?
My life seems in tatters
and there is nothing I can do.
I am left in a limbo
with so much unsaid
and my torment goes on and on.
While all the time I am saying to myself,
come on David get back to bed.
How can I?
When all I see is nothing
at the other end waiting for me.
I am now beginning to wonder
if this was all a mistake
and what will be waiting for us
when we touch down
after nine and a half hours in the air.
All I can do is pray is someone
will say something to ease the anxiety I am feeling.
In the mean time, I will remain
sleepless in Portsmouth.

My Canadian Chronicles 004
I sit in our hotel room
and ponder the days ahead
the adventures each new day will bring.
I am not going to even try
to imagine the delights ahead,
but let the card fall
however, they are dealt.
Some people when on holiday
wish for lots of good weather.
For me it’s not the weather
but those whom I will meet.
The laughter we might enjoy
listening to the funny things that made up our lives.
These are the important things
when I go on holiday.

Ex Miss
Everything that could have went wrong,
Went wrong this year.
Nothing recently has made me want to stand up and cheer.
Everything you haven't said,
Has finally come back to you.
Now is not the time.
Now is not the time.
I know you never liked any of this
I gave to you.
This holiday is over and
It turned out the way I expected.
This holiday,
This wonderful day,
Another year
This time I'll regret that I spent too much time and money on you.
Why do I only remember
the past times we had?
I guess everything we do (everything we do)
does reflect,
Everything you wish you said
Has finally come back to you.
Now is not the time,
No, now is not the time.
I know you never liked any of this
I gave to you
This holiday is over and
It turned out the way i expected
This holiday
This wonderful day
Another year
This time i regret that I spent too much time and money on you
This Holiday is over and
It turned out the way i expected
This holiday
This wonderful day
Another year
Not another year
This holiday
is over and
it turned out the way i expected
this holiday
this wonderful
aother year
No not another year
I hope you spend it alone

My Canadian Chronicles 007
I felt so nervous about meeting
the people I was going to see,
then we arrived and those nerves vanished within the hugs.
Everyone said it would be all right,
but I wasn’t sure.
Now I know they were right.
They have taken us under their wing
making our holiday the best one we’ve ever had.
The biggest sadness will be when we have to part
and I know that when I leave
I will be leaving a piece of my heart.
I will never have any regrets
for I know I have done the right thing.
I have travelled thousands of miles to meet with friends
that have made my heart sing.
The words when you come back again
brought tears to this humble man.
Knowing that from being an outsider
I finally found where I fit inside.
The wellspring of friendship
has overflowed with their kindness,
the kind we are all looking for.
I feel a warmth inside like I’ve never felt before.
Each moment in their company
stores more memories to treasure
for as long as I may live.

Passions
Passions sometimes burn
long after things have come and gone.
You take the holiday of a lifetime,
meet strangers who become friends,
people you so dearly love to see again
and hope you’ll get the chance.
You remember your partings
the last hugs and tears,
also the fears you had
at the thought of meeting them.
How they vanished at the first sight
and the hugs you received.
Now all you want and even long for
is to do it again and again,
hoping it will be the same
for everyone one of them.

A Chance Comes Once In Life
A chance comes once in life
Once you let the chance go it kills you with a knife
You cry on a broken mirror
Which makes have a feeling of horror?
Once you let your beloved go free
You leave them fly like a bee
You leave them broken into pieces
As now they don't have places
You know don't be bossy like Magritte
But after some time you will regret
by then the one you love will be gone
then you will be left to dry like a bone
that choice you will make
it will catch you on the neck
you take care of your chance for that sake
as you leave him while when you go to the lake
you leave him cry
he feels like he is not in the sky
as you feel so fly
as for him he is not In joy

Death Is Not Goodbye, It Is Just Farewell
I've reached that point where I now know,
My life here is over it's my time to go,
By the principles of honesty I've tried to adhere,
Perhaps that's why I do not feel fear.
When I leave this life my journey will start,
So I don't feel down now it's time to depart,
I'll be heading for the joys of eternal life,
No more pain or the feelings of strife.
I'll feel sadness for those I will leave behind,
But we'll never be far from each others mind,
I'll be watching over them from up above,
that way I can shower them all with my love.
I'll leave them with memories they'll never forget,
By focusing on them there will be no regret,
Life will go on but they will be aware,
They will feel my presence they'll know I am there.
I'll be back again with my Mum and Dad,
With that in mind how could I feel sad,
From those earthly pressures I'll forever be free,
There is so much I'm looking forward to see,
Thousands of relatives and friends from the past,
Together forever this new life will last,
Scientists say it's a dream but dreams do come true,
My undying faith will carry me through.
They'll all be waiting for me to arrive,
With that welcome to come I know I will thrive,
I'll be safe in the knowledge this new life is forever,
Where all life is equal now that's really clever.
There'll be animals and plants and beautiful seas,
No fighting or hatred nor any disease,
A kingdom where we are all treated the same,
Equality for all no recognition of fame.
No religious conflict or issues of race,
Infinite happiness is what I now face,
A wonderful world with a happy accord,
If you trust in your God this will be your reward.
No more sadness just feelings of joy,
Where nothing can upset or ever annoy,
That life I once had I will no longer miss,
For the one I have now is perpetual bliss.
By teaching your loved ones you will meet again,
From grieving too much it will help them refrain,
By knowing you're around them their fears will dispel,
‘' Death Is Not Goodbye It Is Just Farewell ‘'
Good Morning, Good Morning
Nothing to do to save his life call his wife in
Nothing to say but what a day how's your boy been
Nothing to do it's up to you
I've got nothing to say but it's o.k.
Good morning, good morning...
Going to work don't want to go feeling low down
Heading for home you start to roam then you're in town
Everybody knows there's nothing doing
Everything is closed it's like a ruin
Everyone you see is half asleep.
And you're on your own you're in the street
Good morning, good morning...
After a while you start to smile now you feel cool.
Then you decide to take a walk by the old school.
Nothing has changed it's still the same
I've got nothing to say but it's o.k.
Good morning, good morning...
People running round it's five o'clock.
Everywhere in town is getting dark.
Everyone you see is full of life.
It's time for tea and meet the wife.
Somebody needs to know the time, glad that i'm here.
Watching the skirts you start to flirt now you're in gear.
Go to a show you hope she goes.
I've got nothing to say but it's o.k.
Good morning, good morning...

True Love II (Goodbye)
This might be the last time
I would have a chance to say goodbye to you
Because I’m going to leave you tomorrow
To persuade my dream of being the best for you
It’s really hard for me to let go of you
Because you are my everything
But for me to become the best
I must make some sacrifices
I thank you
For the wonderful memories we shared
All the sweetest moment’s we had
And I hope you can forgive me for being selfish
I just wish I could see you before I leave
I wish I could hug you one more time
I wish I could kiss your lips
For the last time
I hope you understand
I don’t want to leave you
But that’s life
We must take chances
And I promise you
That when I come back
You will not regret
The decision I made….

The Birthday Wish
In honoring the anniversary of your birth
I hope you'll be made aware of your life's worth,
That the sun will shine and skies be blue
And events relating to sadness will shy away from you.
This day will soon be numbered in the past,
I pray for you happiness that will forever last.
Respect from your children in an abundant supply
And many good friends that will never say good-bye.
That you'll always be in possession of good health,
These things being yours, You'll have much wealth.
When the days number less in the future than those left behind
I truly hope one day while reminiscing you'll happily find
A unique and pleasant memory or two
Form the days that have spent with you.

My Canadian Chronicles 32
On my holiday, I have had many surprises,
but none like I had on my birthday.
'The Auburn' is a prestigious place
where poets go in Calgary.
I had the honour of taking the open mike
and reading a couple of my poems to them.
However, what happen next took me by surprise.
When I had finished and left the stage
the poets at 'The Auburn' sang happy birthday to me,
then my friend Melvina read out a birthday poem
she had written especially for me.
It didn’t end there,
for during the interval they brought out my cake.
My two friends Sue and Melvina
kept the whole thing from me,
but what a wonderful surprise.
The whole evening was too wonderful for words
and something I will never forget
and yet another thing I have to thank
my two adopted sisters for.

Early Works - Bob And June
If this world should ever end
in the next we’d still be friends
for though we are from different walks of life
with different worries and strife
we combined together in strength of force
with friendship as a straight and narrow course.
Bob is the youngest of us all
isn’t very tall, but his friendship
is something you cannot explain
it’s true and sound, something profound.
June, Bob’s wife I’ve not known that long
has given me friendship and hope that’s strong
that’s why when together in a room
all sadness by happy faces and laughter is consumed.
Though our world is changing rapidly
our friendship will remain constantly
for our friendship will never break
of this make no mistake
for ours is a true friendship rarely found
in this world that revolves around.
That’s why this poem of friendship does conclude
my tribute to Bob and June.
Date unknown. (Probably early 1970s)
Authors note:
The sad note to this poem only recently found is that June died a few years ago of cancer. Bob afterward withdrew from friends and family until his whereabouts at present is unknown. I believe that we will meet again whether it is in this world or the next.

What Hurt the Most Is
What hurt the most is
That you are making me jealous by dating someone else and not me
I do everything I could to prove too you that we belong together, but
It turns out that nothing I make you give me a chance
What hurt the most is
You breaking my heart every time I tell you I like you
I just want to cry and be sad
If I know I can't have you
I can't never love anyone else, but you
I want to be with you forever
Nothing will ever make me stop loving you
So please understand how I feel and give me a second chance
I can't stand it anymore
What hurt the most is
Being around you and getting to know you so well
I pretend that I'm ok when I'm not
When I'm around you, I act like I'm ok because
I don't want you to know how I'm feeling
It's hard to deal with the pain not having you everywhere I go
It's still harder to getting up, getting dressed, and living with this regret
If you give me another chance, I can make it right this time
What hurt the most is
I didn't make the right choice that day
I just talk, smile and laugh
I rude my only chance to be with you
This is one regret that I can't never forget
If this won't work with all I'm trying to say or do to get you to be with my side
I need to let go and move on
I want to spend all my time with you before I won't never see you again
What hurt the most is
Being around you and getting to know you so well
I pretend that I'm ok when I'm not
When I'm around you, I act like I'm ok because
I don't want you to know how I'm feeling
It's hard dealing with the pain not having you everywhere I go
It's still harder getting up, getting dressed, and living with this regret
If you give me another chance, I can make it right this time
What hurt the most is

The Boys And Girls I Went To School With
The boys and girls I went to school with from me now far away
And even some of them not living now where the dead are they lay
And in distant flights of fancy I fancy I see them yet
And them I still remember and them I won't forget.
The boys and girls I went to school with the years have left them slow
And were I to meet them on the street perhaps them I''d not know
For the years they leave us looking older and there''s no turning back the hands of time
And those I went to school with like me now long past their prime.
Many of the boys and girls I went to school with live distant from Millstreet
And we well might be strangers now if by chance we did meet
In my mental pictures of them they have not aged a day
But reality is different and 'tis always been that way.
Many of the boys and girls I went to school with in Millstreet our Home -town
Have left that green old countryside where Finnow babbles down
For to join with the great Blackwater on it''s journey to the sea
Still their innocence and youthfulness will always be with me.
The changes keep on happening and nothing seems to last
Still we cling on to our memories and we can''t deny our past
And though we may now be strangers were we to meet again
The boys and girls I went to school with young in my thoughts remain.
