My dear Jill
I’ve heard your ill,
I’d come down and see you
as I think highly of you.
Sadly, I went and caught a cold
and afraid my fate is sold.
I’ll not sign my name at the bottom
in case of a gain ill gotten.
With these flowers I send to you
comes my love and prayers too.
Though these flowers are pretty,
you could shame them with your beauty.
You probably know this, now you know whom
by the many pictures I have of you.
The romantic things you say to me
as I hold the hand of thee
showing just how much you care
and want my love to share.
The love I have for you is strong
and I’ll worry for you all night long.
Every night by my bed,
I’ll pray for your safety through the coming day.
You know not of the greatness your words give
or how in my mind they live.
I am but a single soul
seeking refuge within a shoal.
When I heard of your sickness,
I felt a deep sadness, though
I’m not a religious man
I believe the lord will take your hand
and nurse you back to health.
Though life may have treated you wrong
and for a while the pleasures of life are gone
all because you are sick.
Don’t worry my love
my prayers will help you get better quick.

This was a personal poem I wrote for someone at the time I cared for who was ill at the time. Sadly, we lost touch with each other in the closing of 1966 and beginning of 1967 and have never seen one another since.

Last night once again I fell in love with your eyes

With a heart so pure and true
Wishing you were here, so I could dry your tear
As I really do worry and care for you.
Once again as I stare out my window
And sadly I see that you are not there

And Where Is She Now
How often do you wonder
what happened to your first love.
Sometimes I do it all the time.
I wonder what she is doing,
what kind of life she’s lead,
has she had any children and how many.
Did she ever marry the man of her dream,
or is she still waiting
for him to come along?
The questions are without answers,
as I really don’t know.
My first love was Gillian Reid.
I met her at a dance hall
where she worked.
I caught a glimpse of her
the first night I went there
from the corner of my eye.
It was enough for me
to fall madly in love with her.
I slowly got to know as time passed by.
We never went out together though I did try.
However, I had fallen madly in love with her.
Sadly, that love was never returned.
She did however become
a source of inspiration
for many years to come.
I wrote songs by the score,
even my first novel
was written for her.
As the years passed,
she still did inspire me
with short stories and a radio play
and of course
a poem or two.
The last I heard about her
was way back in the late sixties
when someone had told me
she went all hippie.
Still I never saw her again
and I often wonder
would I recognise her
if by chance we passed on the street.
One thing I do remember well.
I wrote her a letter,
the longest letter that I’ve ever written.
It took five envelops to sent it,
so I must have been smitten.
And where is she now
your guess is as good as mine.
All I can tell you is this,
somewhere in this heart of mine
a small fire for her still burns
for the first love of mine.
Time has never dampened
all the embers in there.
However, my wife
has nothing to worry about.
The past is the past
and that is just where it is staying.

Early Works - Jill
She has the gracefulness of a swimming swan
and gentleness of a young fawn
and like the sweetness in the song of a swallow,
her voice serenades my ears when she speaks to me
with all the radiant of diamond gleams
her eyes sparkle when seen.
Just knowing her is a treasure to befall
but loving her is the greatest gift of all
having her as a close and dear friend
is an honour one is proud of until the end
I would be honoured to shout
from the highest hill
this my tribute to the only girl I love - Jill.

Think that there is such thing never exist
