By the harbour I harbor
The strangest memories
Older than I could ever be
Stranded in nostalgia
So tonight i'll try harder
But it's hard to fix this spotlight on me
In a cast that's taking places
I'm not sure of where I want to be

And jump up to cheers from the crowd

No one even listens
The same way that no one ever laughs
I'm taking the car out of the snow
I'm wondering where the summer went to

THE LONGING IS THE HEART OF THE POEM
The longing is the heart of the poem
The longing for so much
Which will never be again-
The longing to be young again
To love again
In a true and deep way-
The longing for all the times and people
Who are not
And never will be again-
The longing which tells me again and again
How much we lose in merely living
How deep and rich life is
In time and ways and people
Beyond our ever remembering and recollecting fully-

I've been looking so long at these pictures of you that I almost believe that they are real
I have been living so long with my pictures of you that I almost believe that the pictures are all I can feel
Remembering you standing quiet in the rain as I ran to your heart to be near
And we kissed as the sky fell and holding you close
How I always held close in your fear
Remembering you were the song through the night
You were bigger and brighter and whiter than snow
Screaming at the make believe, screaming at the sky and you finally found all your courage to let it all go

Mothers Love
She will fret about bringing you into this world for the harm it might do,
And when she does she has never had a happier moment in her life,
She will change your dippers and wash your clothes though a horrid job that can be,
She will shout for joy when you take your first step and yell at your dad 'cause he wasn’t there to see,
She will tie your shoes and cry when you get on the bus for the very first time,
She will tell an embarrassing story to your first love and be there for you when you cry because she is gone,
She will tear up on the night of your prom remembering hers and the joy it brought,
She will take pictures of your graduation day,
And wish you the best of luck though hoping you will stay,

Our Past Lives On With Us
We may not be in prison yet we are not truly free
For of our past we are prisoners that's how 'twould seem to me
Bad memories always haunt us they never go away
Until the Reaper claims us they are with us to stay.
For many childhood memories are full of mental pain
Their heavy cross of sorrows through their lives with them remain
Children of war and famines they cannot forget their past
Their living nightmares with them linger though few other things seem to last.
Children of abusive parents bad old memories in them stay young
They live remembering their traumas and die as the unsung
Their innocence stolen from them in their childhood of tears
Bad memories still with them undimmed by the passing years.
We may not be in prison though it would seem to me
That we prisoners of our memories of our past we can't be free
Until the Reaper claims us good and bad memories with us stay

Don’t you just love old family pictures?
Dug out from dusty box or chest
I don’t think there is anything else
That can compare – they’re the absolute best
There is nothing like those black and whites
The photos from the past
Of course we know from history
That nothing ever lasts
Time moves on, of course it does
But pictures can live without end
They keep our families together
They are one thing that we can depend
Family pictures are such treasures
They take us back in time
They put us in the moment
And let the past unwind
As I go through several lifetimes
