We will go no more to Shaemus, at the Nip,
for sly innuendo and an Oporto Flip,
the rough but tender voice, the wide-mouthed grin,
the steady-unsteady hand that poured the gin:
memory, that flew back years to find a name,
found it, and fetched it up, still just the same;
the shaky footsteps, and then the shaky kidding:
you, the big business man, outbid, outbidding,
the mystery man, the man of deep affairs,
highbrow, and playboy, and friend of millionaires:
and you, the lovers, whose love was in your faces—
there you were, back once more—and still the traces!—
Yes, still the traces of that love he loved,
and re-examined, but as if unmoved;
the names fished up from time, or Singapore,
joined and repeated on his bar once more;
as if no let or hindrance were permitted;
as if both time and space could be outwitted;
endurance noted—in a protocol—
and then embalmed, of course, in alcohol.
And now himself, the immortal, lightly gone,
as if stepped out for a quick one—who had none.
And dead, his room inspected by his friends,
to find a will, adjust the odds and ends;
and there, the fifteen suits, the malacca cane,
the hats, and spats: in which he roved again,
far from the furnished room, the sacred bar,
immortal dandy, towards an immortal star.

All those whom I loved
Have ridden the train of time

I have many pages that reference me.
But I know somehow at some future time
In five years or fifty million
It will not be-
The end will come in some surprise I cannot know now.

Singing My Songs
Now when I sing my voice is shaky,
shaky beyond repair.
But inside I hear a voice that's achy,
achy from years of wear.
But I sing regardless of the voice
because I must, my dear.
And as I do I compose myself
so as not to cry a tear.
For the songs are solace for my heart
and were written to be heard.
I can't remember what came first,
the melody or the word?
But what does it matter the order of things

In His Mind
he knows now why he
goes beyond the decency
of love, those clean hands
touching, acceptable by
those who want to be
with all of the kind people here,
he looks back in time
when the moss was not in the
stones yet on the river
love was not there
there were no traces of its
steps
there was no trace of a cat
or bird
there were no words for no one
nothing speaks about affection
and acceptance
he once kissed love
and love shuts out saying it is over
there is no design
no architecture for a comfortable dwelling
he gets away from this dream
goes inside a room and goes out of the door
walks on the street that is dark and narrow
there are people without names
there half-naked and ready
to embrace whatever he brings
now he is at home
and there is no more regret
no comparison for what ought to
be that merely gives
him pain
beyond love of course
is the colorful and scented
lust that gives him temporary
relief from twisted faces
and bodies that desired and loved so well

Dead and rotting like man

An Eagles eye as far as i can see

And now she's died, too...
and mankind's selfish howl rings out -
She should have died hereafter...
why didn't you tell us you were going to die...?
She left us with a poem to her lover;
their parting once almost as chewed-over
as the Ted and Sylvia show...
