Alfonso, Dressing to Wait at Table

Alfonso is a handsome bronze-hued lad
Of subtly-changing and surprising parts;
His moods are storms that frighten and make glad,
His eyes were made to capture women's hearts.

Down in the glory-hole Alfonso sings
An olden song of wine and clinking glasses
And riotous rakes; magnificently flings
Gay kisses to imaginary lasses.

Alfonso's voice of mellow music thrills
Our swaying forms and steals our hearts with joy;
And when he soars, his fine falsetto trills
Are rarest notes of gold without alloy.

But, O Alfonso! wherefore do you sing
Dream-songs of carefree men and ancient places?
Soon we shall be beset by clamouring
Of hungry and importunate palefaces.

Sexy Tango in the Night

Flat damp alley with flickering neon tubes,
Entry by a door fashioned like a star,
The ice-buckets tinkle frozen cubes,
Ringlets of smoke curl in the café noir,

The cabaret begins.

The champagne bubbles blink the rhythm of the night,
Black net tango legs stand astride,
Alfonso’s hat tilts; patent shoes guide stilettos right,
Synchro bodies glide so seductive side by side.

As the night air sucks the music’s fashion,
Lola flirts a hint of “yes” to stir his passion,
He holds her high in light atop,
As the music ascends to a staccato stop.

The accordion screams
The well known beat,
Dancing flirting crossing the floor,
No mistakes with those sexy feet.

My friend slides
To the edge of his chair
With the champers drunk
Transfixed in a stare

It’s not Alfonso he eye’s in his shoes, but himself! ”
As the mirrored vision ripples across the room,
Now a master in his mind
He holds Lola close.

He’s not a dancer just a prancer,
Praying on a dog chance,
As the party fades in different moods, He slowly caress’- the trickle icy cubes.

Marvoil

A poor clerk I, 'Arnaut the less' they call me,
And because I have small mind to sit
Day long, long day cooped on a stool
A-jumbling o' figures for Maitre Jacques Polin,
I ha' taken to rambling the South here.

The Vicomte of Beziers's not such a bad lot.
I made rimes to his lady this three year:
Vers and canzone, till that damn'd son of Aragon,
Alfonso the half-bald, took to hanging
His helmet at Beziers.
Then came what might come, to wit: three men and one woman,
Beziers off at Mont-Ausier, I and his lady
Singing the stars in the turrets of Beziers,
And one lean Aragonese cursing the seneschal
To the end that you see, friends:

Aragon cursing in Aragon, Beziers busy at Beziers
Bored to an inch of extinction,
Tibors all tongue and temper at Mont-Ausier,
Me! in this damn'd inn of Avignon,
Stringing long verse for the Burlatz;
All for one half-bald, knock-knee'd king of the Aragonese,
Alfonso, Quattro, poke-nose.

And if when I am dead
They take the trouble to tear out this wall here,
They'11 know more of Arnaut of Marvoil
Than half his canzoni say of him.
As for will and testament I leave none,
Save this: ‘Vers and canzone to the Countess of Beziers
In return for the first kiss she gave me.'
May her eyes and her cheek be fair
To all men except the King of Aragon,
And may I come'speedily to Beziers
Whither my desire and my dream have preceded me.

O hole in the wall here! be thou my jongleur
As ne'er had I other, and when the wind blows,
Sing thou the grace of the Lady of Beziers,
For even as thou art hollow before I fill thee with this parchment,
So is my heart hollow when she filleth not mine eyes,
And so were my mind hollow, did she not fill utterly my thought.

Wherefore, O hole in the wall here,
When the wind blows sigh thou for my sorrow
That I have not the Countess of Beziers
Close in my arms here.
Even as thou shalt soon have this parchment.

O hole in the wall here, be thou my jongleur,
And though thou sighest my sorrow in the wind,
Keep yet my secret in thy breast here;
Even as I keep her image in my heart here.

Cantiga

LADY, for the love of God,
Have some pity upon me!
See my eyes, a river-flood
Day and night, oh, see!
Brothers, cousins, uncles, all,
Have I lost for thee;
If thou dost not me recall,
Woe is me!

Oh Were is My Africa

I dream the dream of dreams
Oh were is my Africa
Of noble past and ebony rule
Of golden sunsets and
Cluster night skies of bright stars
Of sculptured warriors
Dancing to the drums of night
Of sisters in garments of bright
Multicolor cloth
Singing songs to Shango

I dream the dream of dreams
Oh were is my Africa

Of the circle of the elders
Noble in stature
And reaping of wisdom
Sitting in harmony
With the ancestors
To provide guidance to the people

I dream the dream of dreams
Oh were is my Africa

Of afros, Swahili and dashikis
And greetings of my brother, my sister
Of jazz and blues, and afro rhythms
Of peace and harmony
Of pursuit of knowledge and truth
Of compassion and love
I dream the dream

I dream the dream of dreams
That my Africa
is nowhere but in my dreams

But unfortunately nowadays it happens in the daylight too.

The Wonder

Sitting wondering feeling that a place such as this
is only a passing river that will eventually stream to an ocean
Sighting a beautiful flower garden on the same way that an evil action is being done
Smell of moms fresh favorite meal being prepared at the same time being cluttered by the smell of man-made destruction in the air
Architectural wonder around the city skyscrapers homelessness sorrounding the same areas
Fair or unfair neither you nor I have a say just a free ride on a tube on the river flowing thru on the way to the ocean
