Wisdom after Victory

Now comes to an end all our dolorous drifting;
Clouds pass away and depression is lifting.
Because we were wise in our planning and sought
The lesser of ills that the greater be fought
Hope springs again in the heart of the nation;
Because we were brave and accepted oblation
Of sharp sacrifice, now comes recompense near
With the dawn of our glorious Centenary year.

For the good of our souls have we borne the dark sorrows
Of that gloomy day which buys many bright morrows;
For the good of our land have we chosen to shun
The glittering sand, that real treasure be won.
And we who were counted the prodigal nation
Have won new renown by our self-immolation
And the lands of the earth now in wonder behold
This youngest of lands in grave wisdom grown old.

And now we return with new heart to our labor,
And, where gloom was rife, neighbor smiles upon neighbor;
And now comes, to light our Centenary year
Not the dawn of false hope ever followed by fear
But a dawn that shall last and wax ever in brightness,
Bringing strength to the weak: to the heavy heart, lightness.
Bringing hope to the fearful and ending dismay.
Because we have chosen the fighter's hard way.

Then let us not squander our hardly-won treasure
In pursuit of false joys and enfeebling leisure.
Tried in the fire, we have proven our worth:
We have proven our strength to the peoples of earth.
If courage in ill days has won us salvation,
So wisdom in good days shall flee the temptation
To seek prosperity vain, foolish things.
Let us husband the gifts our Centenary brings.

Night Must End

Night must end,
And in the future years
There will come another dawn
To wipe away my foolish tears.
Nightly shadows must flee
Beyond the distant brink,
Bringing a glorious sunrise
That will blot out the gloom of night's ink.
Night must face
Into the endless deep,
Bringing the hope of a future day
To arouse my heart from sleep.
Yes, night will pass away;
The darkness will vanish with the night
And father on beyond the glade
I will see a beacon of light.

Despised and Rejected

Christ was despised and rejected, by the ones He came to save,
But believed and accepted, by men said to be morally depraved.
Sent to redeem an entire nation, that special land chosen by God,
But they rejected His Salvation, and now will face Messiah’s Rod.

Christ however continued to proclaim, to those He called His own,
God’s salvation in His very name, with the power of God’s throne.
He continued to preach God’s Truth, to men who had ears to hear,
Even when receiving men’s reproof, from hearts that had no fear.

Christ’s Light would soon depart, as He was headed to the cross,
And the many with a hardened heart, would remain blind and lost.
They wanted Christ out of the way, not believing He was The Lord,
Heeding not a word He would say, by God too, they’d be ignored.

Christ would turn to the Gentile, to be for them God’s chosen light,
Where God’s Own were in denial, God would give the nations sight.
God turning away from His Own, draws all peoples to Jesus Christ,
Who reigns in Glory on His Throne, providing Believers Eternal Life.

One day His own will mark His words, as many in that nation perish,
For Judgment will destroy two thirds, with a remnant left to cherish.
Until then, He turns to every nation, and every heart, big and small.
Bringing them to God’s Salvation, Christ His Son, who came for all.

Important People

The success of the Scout movement throughout the whole world has been amply proven by the present triumphant gathering in Melbourne.
Great and important people, these
Important far beyond our ken
Who mark with adult sophistries
Their serious air of sober men,
Their fancy garb, their solemn fuss,
With code and law, their tender age.
Soon shall they count for more than us
Stale actors on an outworn stage.

They are, say we, mere children drawn
By make-believe from many lands;
Yet soon, at some swift morrow's dawn
Earth's destiny top these small hands
Must pass; and, should their creed prevail,
As well it may for all earth's good,
They shall have triumphed where we fail,
In peace and long-sought brotherhood.

Here rests a new world's shining hope,
And we, a mad world's residue,
Doomed lately in dark ways to grope,
May yet, thro' them, find dreams come true
Dreams that our blunted senses sought
To grasp in one exalted hour,
And lost - the good for which men fought
Brought into everlasting flower.

Important people? Who are we
To greet with patronising smiles
Their creed of regained chivalry
We who are cheated by crude wiles
Of greed and folly, and became
Flotsam, forlorn and tempest-tossed? . . . .
More precious far their childish game
Than wisdom in our chaos lost.

For The New Year

FLUSHED with a crimson sunrise beauty,
The fair new year its promise gave;
Such dreams we had of love, of duty,
Of heights to scale, of foes to brave!
Oh, how hope's fire our future lighted--
How much to do, how much to know,
Yet on its brink we shrank affrighted

And now the year is done--its pleasure
So brief, so bright--its hours of pain;
Some moments' memories we treasure,
Some recollections loathe in vain.
Oh, for a brain where could not waken
Remembrances of purpose crossed,
Of trusts abandoned, aims forsaken,
And chances lost!

The changing seasons thrust upon us
Another year, fair-faced and new;
What evil have the old years done us
That this in its turn will not do?
This, too, will die, and leave us grieving
For all the ills its arms enfold--
For faiths betrayed, for friends deceiving,
And love grown cold.

We have been fooled. The hopes that fooled us--
We know them now--have been a lie;
The star that led, the light that ruled us--
We scorn them, and we pass them by.
Shut out hope's light; past is the season
When rose-red glow seemed good to see.
Look--by the cold white light of reason,
These things shall be:

A long, dim vista, blank and dreary--
The same hard failure, small success;
The same tired heart, the brain still weary
Of its intense self-consciousness;
The old despair, the old repining,
And, through the future's deepest night,
Down life's untrodden ways still shining,
The old hope's light!

As Light Reflects

As light reflects off the walls
So you illuminate life
Erasing the shadows
Bringing comfort and strength
You shine, leading, guiding
Giving hope to those afraid to dream
The strength of those too weak to try again
You bless the sick with good health
And give those who ask wisdom
Like the sun, you shine
Your love fills the earth, no one can escape it
You are everywhere, know everything
Nothing can i hide from your eyes, my Lord

We’ve Faith To Hope

When peace on earth has blessed our ground
When innocent of sin
Then Christ God’s Lamb we’ve truly found
And Fire burns deep within

With peace God brings His love inside
Brings faith The Truth to learn
Brings hope to be the faithful bride
Of Christ who’ll soon return

Faith is the hope of that unseen
Of promises divine
That we one day as Heaven’s queen
May drink eternal wine

What hope has faith that’s placed in man?
What hope can such faith bring?
Is this not part of Satan’s plan?
To grieve our Lord and King

The word of God is all too plain
The past has shown quite clear
There’s nought to learn, there’s nought to gain
From man who’s wisdom’s here

We need to seek for higher things
We need to seek The Light
We need to seek the truth Christ sings
On pages black on white

Knowledge will come with wisdom’s dawn
Waiting at Jesus feet
We’ll drink His blood and be reborn
Through spiritual food we eat

By faith alone these things are done
Through faith we understand
That through our faith true life is won
Within God’s Promised Land

Two Gods

‘Twas in the spring, two Gods gazed down upon the bright new land,
And one was Hope and one was Fear, and Hope it was who planned
This nation with its beauty and its wealth would surely be
The shining light to all the Earth - this was the God's decree.

But Fear it was who scratched his chin and begged to differ there,
Said he, that he would wager it would all end in despair,
And Hope took up the wager, for he was true to his name,
At stake the new land's fate, as Hope and Fear began the game.

And through that spring, the nation thrived, as sailing oceans wide
Came people from the worn out lands, where hope had all but died.
They cleared and built and farmed and tilled and made the country bloom.
They left, in far divided lands, dark thoughts of hate and doom.

Hope smiled at his companion but Fear's face showed no concern;
Still all went well, and soon to summer saw the season turn.
The cities grew, the country thrived, they battled drought and flood.
In foreign wars, sometimes in vain, spilled of their best their blood.

But built unique a people proud, united in their quest,
To not allow the old hatreds, to only choose the best.
No creed that would divide them, would they in this place allow;
They knew the course of history, their stance they would avow.

Then autumn came and Hope remained, but near, a nagging Fear.
The two gazed from the firmament, they heard the people jeer.
The calls to scrap the old ways, and embrace the new found truth;
Abandon hope and vision now that doubt and fear were sooth.

The old ideas like gilded leaves from wisdom's tree must fall,
As all around from ivory towers rang out the strident call,
And right across the land there spread a dark and mouldering cloud,
And those who shouting warnings soon were trampled by the crowd.

The old ways were all wrong - the cry of wreckers seeking power,
As winter's cold winds start to blow comes on the final hour,
And Fear smiles wide at Hope, and to him slowly shows his hand,
And in his palm, with sinking heart, Hope lays the promised land.

An Ode to the Heart of Man

An Ode to the Heart of Man
by Alex Lewis

An ode to the heart of man:
Man has lost the goodness in his soul.
It means nothing: yes we can.
The earth does cringe as overflows the badness in the bowl.
We had helped others before,
But now we greed and care for none other than our own.
Oh, man! You are whom I had adore.
Evil corrupts the good heart of man. I have been shown.
Help your brother and your brother will help thee,
But you ignore me. Help yourself and you'll help nobody.
An ode to the heart of man that's been destroyed by we,
The ones who have abandoned peace and hope. Help me to help thee.
I plead for you, but you have cut out my heart!
For what? What do you show for your murder?
Nothing! Man is SO evil. You can see it sans chart!
Yet, we create false hope and false light.
The day of GOOD WILL HATH SUNK into night.
I pity you. You haven't even made a fight.
You have all accepted the killing of man.
An ode to his heart that ended once it began.

Wrapped In Light

The Lord wraps Himself in light, that darkness cannot penetrate,
Existing high above dark of night, in His Glorious, Eternal State,
His form no eye on earth has seen, by those of us on this earth,
Value believers soon shall glean; that for us will be eternal worth.

God rides on the clouds above, as those clouds are His chariot,
Above all the clouds He speaks of, is the throne where God sits,
Throned high above in majesty, the Blessed Savior Jesus Christ,
Who every believer’s eye will see, when we into enter Eternal Life.

God left the Light of His Throne, to enter earth’s darkness below,
Coming down to redeem His own, and yet, Him they didn’t know,
So another thing God would do, He turned to each gentile nation,
With a Covenant, that was new, offering to all souls His salvation.

Yet, The Lord shall return to Israel, when this present age is done,
To redeem that Nation, per His Will, as God’s Only Begotten Son,
Jesus Christ, rejected the first time, by God’s only chosen nation,
However, it was of God’s Design, in fulfilling His Holy Revelation.

Christ came, the Light of the world, to redeem men from the night,
His Good News is what we herald, pointing other men to His Light,
For God came to redeem all men, to offer mortal men Eternal Life,
When, by God they are Born Again, through His Son, Jesus Christ.

0006 Saraswati

The name means
wisdom. Perhaps
we should leave it there. For
the human mind loves
to bring the heavenly
down to earth; then bury it:

maybe not wisdom, did they say –
who worships wisdom in these foolish days?
Maybe a goddess then?
We’ll name our greatest river
after her; that will help men
to remember wisdom
which flows from heaven
to the tops of the unreachable snowed
Himalayas, flows down and nourishes
the earth that nourishes the seeds
that yield the plants
that bring life to men
who meet together on her banks
and build a whole Harappan
civilisation – so, look –
she’s wisdom, and a goddess, and river bringing life itself
and so she’s in the heart
of every Indian.

so far, so good; but then –
was it anger in the heavens,
that made the lovely goddess
lift her veil across her face?
conceal her wisdom? Was it
that men forgot to honour her?
Or was it some tectonic plate, slightly tipping,
that turned the fertile Sindh and Rajasthan
into deserts? And the river Saraswati
first became not a river, but
a line of pools, needing the yearly
tribute from the rains of mercy,
brought by men’s sacrifice? And then,
finally disappeared?

and so the goddess of wisdom
who is eternal wisdom
and a river, is now
the goddess of the wisdom that’s
no longer seen so gracefully flowing there; invisible.

Maybe this purdah
is more dignified; we know she’s there,
if we honour her enough
and need her.

The story is not over, though:
the satellites have photographed
her ghost; a veiled figure seen
slipping out in the cool half-light of dawn,
waterpot on shoulder; she knows
that deep underground, her wise water
waits in stone caverns beneath the earth
these 3,500 years; to be drawn on
by wise engineers, to drink again
with awe, with gratitude, or thoughtless…

Wisdom waits,
living a life so deep in poetry,
in metaphor,
wisdom, goddess, water. How
she must love to live
lightly veiled in silken speech,
quietly in the heart, like
metaphor itself.

Hope: The Conquering Power

Hope a slippery slope that’s so easy to let go
so easy to forget and let worries worry us that we regress
that we digress in a puddle of mess

Hope a strengthened idea, a rebellious concept, an evolved mindset
no proof in what could be, might be, or probably never be
yet we set our minds on hope and hope we don’t in the end regret
that we don’t let the current currency of what currently is, bother you and me

Hope not made for the strong but made for the weak that seek
more than what they see and in their heart the true strength of what they see
what they seek lies in you and me

Hope the messenger, the good news on a bow fletcher
when it seems too hard the inspiring spirit lifter
so let that inspiring inspiration inspire you empower you

Hope and take hold and behold the great tool God use
to mold the hopeless to shape the faithless to extract out the greatness
of the obvious less then shapeless weakness of you and me

Hope the joy of what’s to come, the blessing that already is,
the courage that fills the heart, the conquering power
that conquers the world

Thought it was the end but it only just began

There’s Always a Dawn

There were spears
There were swords
Made for hunting
Not war
Yet with it, from the blood of the innocent will create a new dawn

But war came
Great battles and fights
Many dead
Few still alive
To face the never ending dawn

A new world made
By the people who were left
Conquerors and Defeated
United in one land
A new dawn created with the help of man

The one land changed
More wars began
Famine and disease
Grew a part of that
But the dawn still remained

It was after these wars that history began
Written by the victors about
The defeated
The damned
The dawn was never mentioned- forgotten

These people
The defeated left the land
In search for a new home
Away from the wars
Searching forever for a new dawn

Perhaps they were wise
To leave with such haste
For the empire they once knew
Began to break
The dawn now remembered- the people prayed

The empire broke
The great kingdom now gone
In its place a new world just like the dawn
Still life in the world went on and on
Yet the dawn was still worshiped- never forgotten

The years past
More wars began
Countries discovered
New weapons for man
The promise man made- left to die

Centuries turned
Discoveries made
Technology found
Diseases dead
Still on and on the dawn survives

But for every technology there’s always a weapon
For every discovery there’s always a second
With one disease dead more still arrive
And with every new day a new world is created
Though the dawn still remained

So the world keeps turning
In the dark and light
For every bad thing
There’s always a light
In the dawn

In war it is Peace
In death it is Life
In disease it is the Cures
In the world it is Hope
Disguised as the dawn

Hope keeps us going
Through the bad it is strength
To do what is right, To help the world
In the light it shines, shines for the future, a brighter day
A new dawn

The earth might be in darkness
With a shadow on its edge
Waiting to consume
Till the universe is dead
The dawn still remains

But still the world keeps turning
Like the never ending dawn
Time is forever
And the universe survives
Because of the dawn

It might seem the end
Of the world that we know
But at the end of a day
There’s always mans hope
There’s always a dawn

The Day You Were Born

From a peaceful night a new day has been born
As the sun slowly peeping from its room
The cold breeze sways its tail as it waves on
Goodbye to darkness, hello beautiful dawn

Days traveled so fast, another year has passed
Hours are loaded with so much tasks
It may escape and to your attention
Forgot that September is ending soon

Yes, it’s September 29, the day you were born
Another abounding year to tally on
Another day to thank our Almighty Lord
For giving you the best life in this world

I don’t know if you’ve waited for this day
This is remarkable yet it may just pass away
You may think this is just the same
Of the other days that come your way

But for me this is a special day
Because without it you don’t exist today
So let me give you this little thing
And do hear what my heart’s saying

I’m a sentimental lady you always say
I’m so dramatic like an actress in a broadway
But sometimes my emotions are good in other way
Like I wrote this on your natal day

I just want to say how lucky I am
To find you as my partner ‘til the end
Hang on, please don’t ever change
Just let your age be on the trail

Oh, how I treasure this morn
September 29 the day you were born
Happy birthday to you my husband
Give yourself a little good time

The Winter's Walk

Behold, my fair, where'er we rove,
What dreary prospects round us rise,
The naked hill, the leafless grove,
The hoary ground, the frowning skies.

Nor only through the wasted plain,
Stern Winter is thy force confess'd;
Still wider spreads thy horrid reign,
I feel thy power usurp my breast.

Enlivening hope, and fond desire,
Resign the heart to spleen and care;
Scarce frighted love maintains her fire,
And rapture saddens to despair.

In groundless hope, and causeless fear,
Unhappy man! behold thy doom;
Still changing with the changeful year
The slave of sunshine and of gloom.

Tired with vain joys, the false alarms,
With mental and corporeal strife,
Snatch me, my Stella, to thy arms,
And screen me from the ills of life.

I Love The Word Hope

I love the word hope 'tis a great word it keeps reminding you when you are down
That in many ways you are lucky you are not the worst off in the town
Compared to some you are quite lucky and though you may not be one of the privileged few
There's hope and comfort in the thought that many are worse off than you.

I love the word hope it seems positive to hope for the good days ahead
For life for you is scarce worth living if the hope in your heart it is dead
To hope for a better tomorrow is the thing that keeps us keeping on
For you do not have much to live for if hope out of your life is gone.

I love the word hope it's uplifting for those who are feeling quite low
For as they say hope springs eternal and out of hope success can grow
And one can only see a dark future for one who is struggling to cope
If that person has lost the great gift the gift that we all know as hope.

I love the word hope it's a great gift those who have it in them have fight
They keep on going through the dark tunnel till finally they reach the light
And when you retain hope through your hard days you are telling the World I'm alive
For without it life on you much harder and you find it so hard to survive.

Many Are Called

Many are called, dear heart, to happiness,
But few are chosen, even for a wild short year.
Love calls us from our sleep, and we make stress
To rise and greet him in a world austere
With a sweet dawn, while blithe as chanticleer
He carols his brave message, and we loosen
The shutters of our grief to find him near.
Many are called by Love, but few are chosen.

Love's voice is truth. He speaks his messages
In tones we dare not doubt, and we give ear
As to a prophet of our wilderness,
The glorious lord of a new hemisphere.
And we run, we too, glorious, without fear,
Like children on bright ice too thinly frozen,
Gay to our doom. Ah me! The plunge was sheer.
Many are called by Love, but few are chosen.

Love chooses whom he will to ban or bless.
My fate was a wild shepherd's on the drear
Plains of wan hope, whose one--time shepherdess
Was lost even in the winning, and whose cheer
Has since been of the yellow leaf and sere,
(Scorned is the rose--tree Time finds no last rose on)
And silence claims him and the end is near.
Many are called by Love, but few are chosen.

Queen of my life! I do not love you less
Because you choose not me to cast your woes on.
It is enough for me you once said ``Yes.''
Many are called by Love, but few are chosen.

Fruit of Earth

The winds that blow about the world
(Said Old George Jones)
See here all hope to ruin hurled,
See there triumphant flags unfurled,
Over chance-favored zones.
And no man's wisdom, no man's might
Foresees, much les controls
Some little breeze born of the night
That brings perchance a sudden blight
Or balm for tortured souls.

But growin' things and sowin' things
And watchin' of 'em grow
Not hastenin' things or slowin' things
Nor seekin' to be knowin' things
That men may never know.
'Tis so the kind earth pays a man
'Tis so content is made.
Not work, but worry slays a man;
I take what tricks Fate plays a man
An' sticks to Adam's trade.

The fears that creep about the earth
Vague fears and short-lived joys
What in reckonin' are they worth?
Too quickly swayed by grief or mirth
We live like foolish boys.
Year in, year out, earth mothers us
And offers livelihood,
This year ill fortune bothers us
Next year her bounty smothers us:
The sum of all is good.

'Tis futile man proposes things;
But Nature goes her ways
And God alone disposes things,
And Time alone discloses things
That rule our future says.
Earth yields me her fertility
And till she takes my bones,
I'll nought of man's futility.
For peace bides in humility
(Said Old George Jones).

Pearls of Wisdom

Pearls of wisdom as never before, from the mouth of Christ our Lord,
Speaking words with authority, that come from the Throne of Eternity.
A wisdom which exceeded Solomon, whose heart was divided by sin,
Christ, with a heart perfectly pure, spoke words that will surely endure.

Pearls of wisdom, pure and divine, words spoken, for men of all time,
Directed to every tribe and nation; words of our Lord God’s Salvation.
Salvation sent from God above, through His Son, to show us His love,
Love that exceeded wisdom of earth, and received through a new birth.

Pearls of wisdom not well embraced, by many whom Christ had faced,
Although in God these men believed, Christ by them was not received.
Much of His wisdom is contrary to, that human reason of me and you,
But Christ’s Wisdom is greater than, all of that wisdom of worldly men.

Pearls of wisdom to all will come, to those who truly know God’s Son,
And dare to give their life to Him, Christ, who saves men from their sin.
Sin which blinds the minds and ways, of the many world leaders today,
And in their wisdom they cannot see, God’s timeless Truths of Eternity.

Pearls of wisdom God offers to men, when in Christ we’re Born Again,
And the pearls, spoken by Christ, become to us, the foundation of life.
As believers live to honor The Son, bringing Light of Truth to everyone,
Leading men to an Eternal Kingdom, using Truth and pearls of wisdom.

Hope

When we went singing down the road,
In days when want was not a goad,
Dull care behind us flinging,
No step we stayed, no joy we missed,
To hearken to the pessimist,
But gaily went on singing.

We'd faith in this great country then;
We'd hope in her great, stalwart men,
Who built a worthy nation.
Hope? Hope was ever in our hearts,
For we seemed cast for Builders' parts
And there was our salvation.

But what has changed our outlook now?
With weary eyes and furrowed brow
The uphill road we're facing.
But why? This land is still aflame
With promise of great hope and fame.
Must age be youth disgracing?

Oh, let's go singing up the road,
Although we bear a heavy load.
What good is grieving bringing?
Still, just beneath this happy ground
Is wondrous fortune to be found.
So let us go on singing.
