The Drama

Ah, well, the thing that lived lives on,
And who are we to say it nay?
When Vandal and when Goth had gone,
Long, long beyond great Caesar's day,
The Arts that sought for heights sublime,
Still scaled Olympus, scorning time.

And we who tread this little earth,
Seeking for profit or for fame,
And count one life's poor efforts worth
The meed of all the world's acclaim -
How do we count? What do we bring
To earth's great final reckoning?

Oh, are we not as little boys
Striving to conquer sea and air,
Playing a while with futile toys
To fight the bogey of despair?
While, in the end, invention's lure
Finds us relief - but never cure.

Invention? Men may, late or soon,
Thro' high ambition's urge, aspire,
And, so aspiring, win the boon
Of great and ultimate desire.
But art? Or talkies? Nothing loth,
I'm game to own there's room for both.

In the Long Run

In the long run fame finds the deserving man.
The lucky wight may prosper for a day,
But in good time true merit leads the van,
And vain pretense, unnoticed, goes its way.
There is no Chance, no Destiny, no Fate,
But Fortune smiles on those who work and wait,
In the long run.

In the long run all goodly sorrow pays,
There is no better thing than righteous pain,
The sleepless nights, the awful thorn-crowned days,
Bring sure reward to tortured soul and brain.
Unmeaning joys enervate in the end,
But sorrow yields a glorious dividend
In the long run.

In the long run all hidden things are known,
The eye of truth will penetrate the night,
And good or ill, thy secret shall be known,
However well 't is guarded from the light.
All the unspoken motives of the breast
Are fathomed by the years and stand confest
In the long run.

In the long run all love is paid by love,
Though undervalued by the hosts of earth;
The great eternal Governemnt above
Keeps strict account and will redeem its worth.
Give thy love freely; do not count the cost;
So beautiful a thing was never lost
In the long run.

Time And How To Spend It

LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF SPACE
THERE WAS NO CLOCK, THERE WAS NO TIME, NOR ANY MAN TO COUNT IT
THEN FROM THE VOID, DARK REACH OF SPACE, A WONDROUS GLOBE APPEARED
BUT STILL NO CLOCK, STILL NO TIME, AND STILL NO MAN TO COUNT IT
AND THEN FROM GOD, EARTH AND CLAY, CAME MAN AND TIME-BOTH FLEETING
THEN DAY AND NIGHT, DARK AND LIGHT, DIVIDED BY SUN'S GREETING AND CAME THE NEED TO KEEP THE TIME, OF WHICH THERE SEEMS NO ENDING
AND SOME GREAT SAGE WITH DOUR WORD IS NOW A MESSAGE SENDING
HASTEN QUICKLY, LOSE NO TIME, THE END OF TIME IS PENDING
NOW YESTERDAYS ARE LONG AGO AND TOMORROW MAY NOT COME
SO TAKE EACH MOMENT AS A GIFT-FROM SUN TO SETTING SUN
BUT WASTE NO TIME WITH HURTFUL THOUGHTS SPEND NO TIME DESTRUCTIVE
FOR TIME YOU SEE IS A PRECIOUS THING, SO SPEND YOUR TIME CONSTRUCTIVE. THOUGH I'M NO SAGE NOR LETTERED MAN, ONE THING I KNOW FOR CERTAIN
IT'S BEST TO SPEND TIME DAY BY DAY---UNTIL THAT FINAL CURTAIN!

Whittier

NOT o'er thy dust let there be spent
The gush of maudlin sentiment;
Such drift as that is not for thee,
Whose life and deeds and songs agree,
Sublime in their simplicity.
Nor shall the sorrowing tear be shed.
O singer sweet, thou art not dead!
In spite of time's malignant chill,
With living fire thy songs shall thrill,
And men shall say, 'He liveth still!'
Great poets never die, for Earth
Doth count their lives of too great worth
To lose them from her treasured store;
So shalt thou live for evermore —
Though far thy form from mortal ken —
Deep in the hearts and minds of men.

Who Is Truly Great?

Great is one who humbles oneself;
Great is one who accomplishes without expectations;
Great is one who labors for others’ welfare;
Great is one who struggles for a noble cause;
Great is one who gives his life for his Maker’s sake;
Great is one who sacrifices his precious life for truth’s sake;
Great is one who takes the road least taken;
Great is one who climbs life’s steep hills;
Great is one who treads dangerous paths for mankind’s progress;
Great is one who risks his life unduly to save others’ lives;
Great is one who although born or made handicapped does extra-ordinary feats;
Great is one who scales heights of achievements rarely done by others;
Great is one who toils in sleep-hours too for mankind’s upliftment;
Great is one who racks his brain to find a cure for a crippling disease;
Great is one who shuns selfishness for the cause of his poorer brethren;
Great is one who dies so that others can live in peace;
Great is one who lives not for oneself but others;
Great is one who loves and forgives his worst foe;
Great is one who leads life in accordance with the Word of God!

Too Late

Too late the prize is drawn, the goal attained.
Too late, too late, our heart's desire is gained.
Wealth's use is past; Fame's crown of laurel mocks
The downward drooping head and grizzled locks.
The end is reached — the end of toil and strife —
The end of life.

Love flowers and fades like grass, and flowers again,
And strong young hearts spend all their strength in vain.
The fiery passions burn out, one by one,
And then, too late, when our best days are done,
Spirit and body find their perfect mate —
Too late, too late!

Long sought, long seeking, through the lonely years,
We meet at last to weep our useless tears
For time and chance irrevocably flown,
For dreams outlived and fervent hopes outgrown,
For babes unborn, for myriad joys unseen,
That might have been.

Too late, too late! And yet the priceless boon
Might ne'er have come to bless us, late or soon;
And only comes, like Holy Grail, to those
Made wise and pure by bitter needs and woes.
We learn the worth of life when life is o'er,
And not before.

Not for the spring and morning time of youth
The perfect flower of slow- unfolding truth —
The perfect love, deep, passionate, and strong,
That comes of wanting much and waiting long.
This glorious fire is of the setting sun
When day is done.

This harvest wealth, this crowning gift of fate,
This fruit of suffering years, must aye come late;
And only seeking spirit and ripe mind —
Only a few — the matchless treasure find,
And find, despite all time and chances lost,
'Twas worth the cost.

Ah me! To stand upon this height at last,
Ere eyes are dim or daylight overpast;
To see one aim achieved, one dream fulfilled,
Ere striving brain and hoping heart are stilled;

To know that we have borne a lifelong pain
Not all in vain!

O, not too late, if once we reach the goal —
If once we satisfy this hungry soul —
If only for a year, a day, an hour,
We drink our fill of life's true bliss and power.
If we but touch that point, we conquer fate
Not quite too late!

None too soon

The moon is shining through the mist
upon the bench where we first kissed.
So long ago, so long ago
I know you know how much you’re missed.

I must return from time to time
recalling happiness sublime.
So long ago, so long ago
Although we hadn’t got a dime.

Whilst you were here I was content
to make you happy my intent.
So long a go, so long ago.
My heart went with you when you went.

I know you did not choose to go
and leave me in this world of woe
So long ago, so long ago.
Your early death a hammer blow.

My turn will come I pray quite soon
I tell my secret to the moon
But she well knows, yes she well knows
My death will come as a great boon.

On wings of love I will soar high
towards the brightness in the sky
and none too soon yes none too soon
We’ll be together you and I.

A New Pilgrimage: Sonnet XXV

And what brave life it was we lived that tide,
Lived, or essayed to live--for who shall say
Youth garners aught but its own dreams denied,
Or handles what it hoped for yesterday?
High prophets were we of the uncultured lay,
Supremely scorning all that to our pride
Seemed less than truth. Be truth the thing it may,
Our Goddess she, deformed but deified.
Prophets and poets of the Earth's last birth
Revealed in ugliness, a blind despair,
Only that we were young and of such worth
As still can thrive upon life's leanest fare,
And find in the world's turmoil its full quittance
Of joy denied, however poor the pittance.

John Galsworthy

Not for vague honors, not for treacherous power
He lived and toiled thro' this, his earthy span;
But to uphold and cultivate the dower,
God-given, for enlightment of man,
Here was no tale of talents mis-applied,
But of gifts to the last hour multiplied.

Grave, kindly scrivener, moved to no swift wrath
By tyrannies or Greed's condoning pleas:
Pity was there for Vandal and for Goth
Clutching insensate at earth's vanities.
Pity was there, with truth and justice, when
He held his shining mirror up to men.

That they might see themselves; not as they seem
To smug content and sleek complacency
Lulled by the opiate of their false dream;
But as some wise, kind visitant might see
And weigh and, by wise standards, judge the worth
Of all the sad frailities of earth.

So he has lived; and so he lays him down
Leaving a picture with us at the end,
Not of some grim reformer's fretful frown;
But of a pitying, understanding friend.
And if, thro' him, this blundering world should gain
One mite in wisdom, life were not in vain.

Their Great Lust For Life

In life for many every day there's some battle to fight
And many must go to bed hungry at night
That is those who do have a bed to sleep on
And any hope of success that they had from them gone.

Their life's greatest battle is just to survive
And their great lust for life only keeps them alive
A fair go in life to them has been denied
Those on the wrong side of the social divide.

Familiar to poverty and they know of despair
But their great lust for life keeps them hanging in there
Like poor struggling fish washed in by the tide
And if there is a god he is not on their side.

The poverty stricken the poor and downtrod
The Homeless and the Stateless of the lesser god
Yet despite their misfortunes to life they do cling
And their great lust for life is an amazing thing.

With their heavy life's crosses they struiggle to cope
And their great lust for life it was born out of hope
That lady luck on them one day soon will smile
And their every day struggles will have been worth-while.

Bring It On

(gary rossington -- johnny vanzant -- rickey medlocke -- hughie thomasson)
Uhh huh thats right
Missy was a real fine looker
Always had an eye for the boys
Man I always wanted to book that girl
Play around with some of her toys
I said, my my, oh can you look at them eyes
I said oh no lord here we go
Dont you pretend you dont know
Bring it on
Yeah baby
Rumor says she from the bayou
Searchin for her fortune and fame
Man shes got a way about her
Shes drivin all us poor boys insane
I said, my my, oh can you look at them eyes
I said oh no lord here we go
Dont you pretend you dont know
Bring it on
Give it to me baby
Ive been waiting for it all night long
Bring it on
I know you got it in you to shake my sheets
To your rock n roll beat
Bring it on, you can bring it on
Just about the time I thought I had it made
I felt a slap on my shoulder
I turned around and had to stare up at him
He said little man you best think this over
I said my, my oh take a look in his eyes
I said, oh no, lord here we go
The bands on a break lets give this bar a show
Bring it on, give it to me mister
We can fight about her all night long
Bring it on, take your best shot
Oh bring it, bring it on
Oh no
We can fight about her all night long
Bring it on

Denny Long Of Annagloor

A two time All Star Gaelic Footballer about him he inspired many a song
The pride of Cork and Millstreet the marvellous Denny Long
Arguably Ireland's finest midfielder when he was in his prime
The memory of his greatness will not fade out in time.

His great positional sense and accurate kicking was a pleasure to behold
And the story of his rise to fame it often has been told
From Annagloor to Croke Park he made it all the way
The cheers rang out for Denny on All Ireland Football Final day.

A Gaelic Football legend of the seventies the years have left him slow
But he was quite a hero some three decades ago
So stylish and athletic Sportsmen like him are rare
And with the best in Ireland he surely do compare.

It was a privilege to have seen him play he was a credit to the game
All Irelands, All Stars and County Championship medals and one who knew great fame
His lengthy and accurate kicking his great useage of the football
A great player the Gaelic Football fans remember and recall.

He reached heights in Gaelic Football that only few attain
And though his better days behind him the memories remain
Of Denny Long of Annagloor a Gaelic Football great
He often gave us reason for to cheer and celebrate

Can You Hear Them?

So sick and tired of living
And so afraid to die
I've lived so many lives
And still I wonder why
The way the world perceives me
Is not the way I am
The one half thinks I'm crazy
The other thinks I'm mad

I spent a long long time alone in my room
I need your help to get me out of this gloom

Can you hear them
All the voices in my head
They freak me out
Can you hear them
They won't be happy 'till I'm dead
They freak me out

Ten thousand million nightmares
Temptation by the score
I used to get so high
And still I wanted more
You think my time is wasted
In search of who I am
I tried to so hard to kill
The boy inside the man

I spent a thousand years one night in my room
I've lived so many lives and that is my doom

Can you hear them
All the voices in my head
They freak me out
Can you hear them
They won't be happy 'till I'm dead
They freak me out

Can you hear them
All the voices in my head
They freak me out
Can you hear them
They won't be happy 'till I'm dead
They freak me out

I never thought I'd smile again
Always thought I'd be here on my own
Sometimes when I'm down
You come and save me again
And again
And again
And again

I'll never understand it
It makes no sense at all
Just look at what I've done
It's time to count the score

I've spent a long long time alone in my room
I need your help to get me out of this gloom

Can you hear them
All the voices in my head
They freak me out
Can you hear them
They won't be happy 'till I'm dead
They freak me out

Can you hear them
All the voices in my head
They freak me out
Can you hear them
They won't be happy 'till I'm dead
They freak me out

Onward

Have the blasts of sorrow worn thee,
Have the rocks of danger torn thee,
And thus shifted, wreck-like drifted,
Wouldst thou find a port in time?
Vain the quest! That word sublime—
God’s great one word,
Silent never, pealeth ever,
Onward!
Hast thou done all loving duty,
Hast thou clothed thy soul with beauty,
And wouldst rest then, wholly blest then,
In some sunny lapse of time?
Vain the hope! The word sublime—
God’s great one word,
Silent never, pealeth ever,
Onward!

Hast thou won the heart of glory,
Hast thou charmed the tongue of story,
And wouldst pause then for applause then,
Underneath the stars of time?
Vain the lure! That word sublime—
God’s great one word,
Silent never, pealeth ever,
Onward!

Truth and virtue hast thou wrought for,
Faith and freedom hast thou fought for,
And then shrinkest for thou thinkest
Paid is all thy debt in time?
Vain the thought! That word sublime—
God’s great one word,
Silent never, pealeth ever,
Onward!

From endeavour to endeavour,
Journeying with hours for ever,
Or aspiring, or acquiring
This, O man, is life in time,
Urged by that primal word sublime—
God’s great one word,
Silent never, pealeth ever,
Onward!

Great Big Man

Rust on your fingers, you got trouble at your feet.
Keep the home fires burning, but look out for the heat
'cause there's a man at the window who knows just what you think,
and there's a water boy behind you who won't give you a drink
Well it's a hard, hard time, no easy road in sight,
it takes a great big man to win a great big fight.
When it comes to dying, no matter what you tell,
They'll let you into a heaven 'cause you lived your life in hell.
Well they've got no way to reward you but to let those breezes blow,
And you've got nothing left to do but to let your anger show.
'Cause it's a hard, hard time, no easy road in sight,
it takes a great big man to win a great big fight.
Think about your baby, think about your wife,
Think about your banker who's trying to take your life.
Think about this planet that's rolling through the night.
Oh can you turn your back on such a great big fight?
You got the muscle, big man, you got the power,
but you're getting weaker with each passing hour.
Just like a flame in the rain, like a light in the night,
well if it's you that must stay, well then it's you that must fight!
'Cause it's a hard, hard time, your future's not bright,
it takes a great big man to win a great big
great big man to win a great big fight.

Tie A Knot, Hang On

Life can bring great challenges,
disappointment and despair.
At times we want to just give up,
from pressures hard to bear.

Life on earth can be beautiful.
We must never give up hope.
Tie a knot, and hang on for dear life,
when you're at the end of your rope.

The rope represents our earth life,
whether happy, sad, or fraught.
Our Savior's great atoning love,
represents the saving knot.

If we will but have faith in Him
when our rope is at it's end,
He'll be the knot that stops our fall,
and helps our lives to mend..

Important People

The success of the Scout movement throughout the whole world has been amply proven by the present triumphant gathering in Melbourne.
Great and important people, these
Important far beyond our ken
Who mark with adult sophistries
Their serious air of sober men,
Their fancy garb, their solemn fuss,
With code and law, their tender age.
Soon shall they count for more than us
Stale actors on an outworn stage.

They are, say we, mere children drawn
By make-believe from many lands;
Yet soon, at some swift morrow's dawn
Earth's destiny top these small hands
Must pass; and, should their creed prevail,
As well it may for all earth's good,
They shall have triumphed where we fail,
In peace and long-sought brotherhood.

Here rests a new world's shining hope,
And we, a mad world's residue,
Doomed lately in dark ways to grope,
May yet, thro' them, find dreams come true
Dreams that our blunted senses sought
To grasp in one exalted hour,
And lost - the good for which men fought
Brought into everlasting flower.

Important people? Who are we
To greet with patronising smiles
Their creed of regained chivalry
We who are cheated by crude wiles
Of greed and folly, and became
Flotsam, forlorn and tempest-tossed? . . . .
More precious far their childish game
Than wisdom in our chaos lost.

My quotations/ What Life has taught me

1-When you are illeterate you are poor
When you are illiterate and a woman you are much poorer.
When you are a woman, poor and illiterate you are the poorest creature on earth.

2-All the best things in life are free: happiness, wisdom, friendship, love, brotherhood, honesty, integrity..If you can have all these you are the richest person in this world....Why are you unhappy? ? ?

3-Don't judge people on what you can see, what you can't see is much more important.

4-Think great, work hard, love yourself as you are and you will be the happiest person in the world.

5-Bees and roses cure both our eyes and hearts.
