The Veil
THE SISTER
Why, brother, why upon me stare?
Why do your brows so fiercely lower?
Your eyes like funeral torches glare,
Beneath their gloomy looks I cower.
Why do I see your sashes rent?
Why have you thrice your fingers laid
Upon the sheath? What dire intent
Makes you half draw the glittering blade?
FIRST BROTHER
Raised you today your veil, and face displayed!
SISTER
Home from the bath my path I took—
Brothers! Look not so terribly!—
And I was hidden from the look
Of every unbeliever's eye.
But as the Mosque I hurried by,
Close covered in my palanquin,
Stifled beneath the mid-day sky,
I loosed my veil to breathe between.
SECOND BROTHER
Did not a man then pass in Cafton green?
SISTER
Ah, yes, perhaps it may be so;
But he ne'er saw my face. My brothers,
Together you are whispering low—
What whisper you to one another?
You would not kill me? On your soul
He saw me not! My oath believe!
Have mercy! Your blind rage control!
Your poor young sister, O reprieve!
THIRD BROTHER
Blood-red I saw the sun sink down at eve.
SISTER
Mercy, O mercy! Brothers, cease,
Your daggers stab me to the heart!
Brothers! I cling about your knees!
O veil! White veil! The cause thou art!
Brothers! Your dying sister prop,
Tear not my bleeding hand away—
Darkness come o'er me—with me stop—
The veil of death shuts out the day.
FOURTH BROTHER
Unlifted by your hands this veil will stay.

A Brother Like Mine…
Yes truly…
A brother like mine
Who dries my tears when everyone deserts me
The one whom remembers me like the air he breathes
His stance gives me confidence over the wicked world
The one who can give his life for my welfarism
Yes truly…
A brother like mine
Even at the peak of temptation,
The thought of his brotherly advice
Makes me humble
And desist I shall from that act
Yes truly…
A brother like mine
A twin brother
Born on a different day, month and year
But with a single heartbeat
United our siblings will remain for the whole world
Will make an artifact out of our brotherhood…

The homing bee
You are belted with gold, little brother of mine,
Yellow gold, like the sun
That spills in the west, as a chalice of wine
When feasting is done.
You are gossamer-winged, little brother of mine,
Tissue winged, like the mist
That broods where the marshes melt into a line
Of vapour sun-kissed.
You are laden with sweets, little brother of mine,
Flower sweets, like the touch
Of hands we have longed for, of arms that entwine,
Of lips that love much.
You are better than I, little brother of mine,
Than I, human-souled,
For you bring from the blossoms and red summer shine,
For others, your gold.

My Ultimate Earthly Destination
I have arrived at my Ultimate Earthly Destination,
And I know I have done so, without expectation
That my hopes and dreams would, an answer find-
Heavenly Father: 'Thou Art far too kind
In Thine remembrance of of me, in my time of need;
All mine prayers have been answered-You saw to their heed!
Graciously and Humbly, I proffer mine gratitude
For the Beneficence with which You gifted these Beatitudes;
All mine Faith, and all mine Strength has gained Reward-
For Thee, all mine life, I shall e'er spread Your Word:
For Thou Art, Lord and Savior, for all the world,
And in all Thine Children, Thou hath unfurled-
As to me, in the most real way-a love for every other-
Where I may love a Sister as a Sister, and a Brother as a Brother!
