Forgotten In Poverty
the smell of rotten tuna cans
and the wailings of children returned like empty soda bottles.
towards the passed-out father of apathy
sleeping off his inner scandals,
underneath the cars of faltering capitalist dreams
with their intoxicating fumes of human road kill.
i wish they would not look at me
with their hollow baby-doll eyes;
they sting like vinegar injections.
the smell of burnt plastic
and the stock sounds of body fluids burping to themselves.
someone's older brother had his fingers mutilated,
tortured by the ripe age of thirteen;
he drowned in his blood as he saw
the faceless men who would not wait on hold,
(any longer to however much he knew)
no one's younger brother pleas for some kind of patriarchal discipline.
i wish they could just tell me
what grills their love-hungry tongues;
they sound like screeching nails at the bottom of wells.
the smell of popped tires
and the hymns of diseased dogs in labor.
towards the tweaked-out mother of whoredom
screaming at her broken portable radios
with their centuries-old announcers
yapping about the pointy-nosed white man laying on his gold.
i wish they were born
somewhere far away from their coffin homes,
they will never know better;
their only blessing within this curse.

That Smell
Whiskey bottles, and brand new cars
Oak tree you're in my way
There's too much coke and too much smoke
Look what's going on inside you
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Angel of darkness is upon you
Stuck a needle in your arm
So take another toke, have a blow for your nose
One more drink fool, will drown you
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Now they call you Prince Charming
Can't speak a word when you're full of 'ludes
Say you'll be all right come tomorrow
But tomorrow might not be here for you
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
Hey, you're a fool you
Stick them needles in your arm
I know I been there before
One little problem that confronts you
Got a monkey on your back
Just one more fix, Lord might do the trick
One hell of a price for you to get your kicks
Ooooh that smell
Can't you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell

I Think I Smell A Rat
Oh I think I smell a rat
I think I smell a rat
all you little kids
seem to think you know
just where it's at
I think I smell a rat
walking down the street
carrying a baseball bat
I think I smell a rat
Oh I think I smell a rat
I think I smell a rat
all you little kids
seem to think you know
just where is at
I think I smell a rat
treating your mother and father
like a welcome mat
I think I smell a rat

My brother, a sister and me
She’s lying on the bed, comatose
No familiar faces around, she could stare
Ironic, there was a smell of calitos
Rising up breezily into the air
Somewhere, a patient has died
Of drug overdose
Superstition belief, is to bear
The curse’s door, is to close
Yesterday someone knocked her down
Whilst she was walking down the road
But no one could be found
As who to blame for the sin load
My brother, a sister and me
Watching helplessly
A mother’s love is about to cease
Taste of life will be bitter
God, help us please
You too have taken away our father
My brother, a sister and me
Will life be better?
Those we loved are no longer here
Eternal pains will be forever
My brother, a sister and me
Living in naive, poverty and fear
Thinking who will be
In the next tier,
Climbs to You
To be with our father
And…probably our mother
Too

Doesnt Smell Like
blasphemy!
equality, not equal.
dignity, dont qualify!
bill of rights, big brother....
one vote, doesnt count...
spirituality, apathy.
patriots, body count.
liberate, invade!
speak out, shot down.....
educate, imprison.
working pride, beg for food...
land of plenty, homeless.
elite few, faceless numbers.
society, depravity...
humanity, self-indulged....
doesnt smell like,
...doesnt even smell like...

I Like Smells
i like smells...
woodsmoke, and food,
black coffee in the morning.
the smell of rain,
of mud, of wetness.
the smell of the walls
of the cave, of the stone,
of the moss...
the smell of sex, of arousal,
of a woman's neck.
the smell of pine needles,
of an old house,
of fresh turned earth...
the smell of old books,
of old dogs, of shadows
without form...
i've even become accustomed
to the smell of death!

Into A Different Color
I smell
Soda pop and dirt, and this is how I
Even struck out
On an empty lot, pop-empty:
Moving down from the south,
Almost drenched by the sea:
Look at my new house following her through
The shadows,
Like an empty shell wishing it had some
Amphibian meat in it to do the crawl;
And bleached tables smell like math,
And the reason why the sky is blue is because
It was wounded long ago when the older
Gods were killed,
And she took over and played soccer after
School,
And kissed the boys who didn’t know how
To play any instruments:
They were too proud and
Beefy,
And they hold flags and make it almost
All the way across the field before really dying
Into a different color
Than what she bleeds.

You Are Like My Own Brother
you are like are brother to me
i know you are my mother's baby brother
but i decide that you are my brother
cause you have been there for me
since i was born
you were there when i lost my father
you were there when i had no mother
you were there when no one bothered
you are still there for me
you make my laugh when i want to cry
you stop me from killing myself
you give me hope when i want to die
you were the one who took away the blade
you were there for me when all my love fade
you were the one who said
you can reach your dreams
you were the one who cared
you were the one who always shared
thank you that i have you as my brother! ! ! 1

Song For Dad
Lately Ive been noticing
I say the same things he used to say
And I even find myself acting the very same way
I tap my fingers on the table
To the rhythm in my soul
And I jingle the car keys
When Im ready to go
When I look in the mirror
Hes right there in my eyes
Starin back at me and I realize
The older I get
The more I can see
How much he loved my mother and my brother and me
And he did the best that he could
And I only hope when I have my own family
That everyday I see
A little more of my father in me
There were times I thought he was bein
Just a little bit hard on me
But now I understand he was makin me
Become the man he knew that I could be
In everything he ever did
He always did with love
And Im proud today to say Im his son
When somebody says I hope I get to meet your dad
I just smile and say you already have
The older I get
The more I can see
How much he loved my mother and my brother and me
And he did the best that he could
And I only hope when I have my own family
That everyday I see
A little more of my father in me
Hes in my eyes
My heart, my soul
My hands, my pride
And when I feel alone
And I think I cant go on
I hear him sayin son youll be alright
Everythings gonna be alright
Yes it is
The older I get
The more I can see
That he loved my mother and my brother and me
And he did the best that he could
And I only hope when I have my own family
That everyday I see
Oh I hope I see
I hope everyday I see
A little more of my father in me
A little more of my father in me
I hope everyday I see in me
In me
In me
I hope everyday I see
A little more of my father in me

Sleeping for the Flag
When our boys come home in triumph, brother,
With the laurels they shall gain;
When we go to give them welcome, brother,
We shall look for you in vain.
We shall wait for your returning, brother,
Though we know it cannot be;
For your comrades left you sleeping, brother,
Underneath a southern tree.
Sleeping to waken
In this weary world no more;
Sleeping for your true-lov'd country, brother,
Sleeping for the flag you bore.
You were the first on duty, brother,
When "to arms" your leader cried--
You have left the ranks forever, brother,
You have laid your armies aside.
From the awful scenes of battle, brother,
You were set forever free,
When your comrades left you sleeping, brother,
Underneath that southern tree.
You have cross'd the clouded river, brother,
To the mansions of the best,
"When the wicked cease from troubling," brother,
"And the weary are at rest."
Surely we would not recall you, brother,
But the tears flow fast and free,
When we think of you sleeping, brother,
Underneath a southern tree.

O Brother, Why Thou You Are Older
O Brother, why thou you are older than me?
Why you stole my thunder at home with your poetry that you took from me?
I know your brutal past and I am eaisly hurt,
thanks those poems you keep on reading and it
is making me sick in the inside.
Why do I have to be the one
considered not what problems you and our younger brother have?
Why I am stuck bewteen the two?
Why do I have to live everyday with you?
Sometimes I want you to leave but I can not do that
Sometimes I want the lead of my blood to get out so I do not be agressive any more
but it is too late. I can not take it out.
You are older than me but we all have to learn something.
Can you take your time and breathe
before we learn how to jump the gun and shoot our lives away?
The good times we had is no longer here
so I wonder when a shooting star fall so I can wish
for happy times back again instead of me being sad
and lonely
Even you are pushy with friends, you are a good one
do not kill thyself
because your mama and papa needs you for you are their son
who is gifted in so many things...
your younger brother Michael needs a role model because to him you are a friend and friendly...you also want to take people's problems and want to help
and for me, your younger brother #1, I need you because you may not be the brother I wanted
but you are the one I got and I am very happy that books are not your strength and sports are yours so we can show our younger brother the diverse of cultures.

The Smell Of Money
(intro)
One more day, with a tumble fall,
Down the money pit, with nothing to show
Hey hey yeah
Another twist, in the horror tale
It's an open coffin, that needs one more nail
Smell of money
Maybe I'm a victim, (Soft silk and bamboo?)
Maybe it's the smell of money
Attracts me to you...
Hey hey yeah money
Two clean shirts
I'm out on bail
As the barroom baits
They start to wail
The smell of money
Maybe I'm a victim, (Soft silk and bamboo?)
Maybe it's the smell of money,
that brings me to you
Stretched out across the ceiling
?? Domes shimmer and glow
Golden citadels
While the autumn wind billows and flows
(instrumental)
Dancing nights, in the lost and found
Move really nice to that money sound
Smell of money, smell of money,
smell of money, smell of money
I need
I bleed
(sudden stop)

Fifth Commandment
“Honor thy Father and Mother”
Wise words, for those that heed
Ignored, as brother kills brother
For on the breast of war they feed
For eons women have met dishonor
Their body, men rape and plunder
Power hungry men who will barter
Wives/children, then sit and ponder;
When?
Patriarchal rule of Earth shall cease
Masculine/Feminine balance restored
Warring Nations frame a lasting peace
Retire weapons, of their own accord
Behold!
Mother of men/Mother Earth again revered
No more shall they be abused and domineered

Gunpowder
I asked my mother why do you cry
She said your brother had... he just died
Well I told him not to go outside
He said he had to fight for his countrys right
But dont you know that mo-mother
Dont you know that we cant stop the violence, no
Because the war is not over
Until you can feel love, peace, and hear silence
But I smell gunpowder (pow)
My brothers been dead ever since
I didnt beleive it, but when I saw him I was convinced
Two shots to the head he was already dead lord,
I headed for revenge in the city of port au prince
Screaming bro-brother
Dont you know that we cant stop the violence, no
Because the war is not over
Until you can feel love, peace, and hear silence
But I smell gunpowder (pow)
Zions gunpowder (pow)
L.a.s gunpowder (pow)
I wanna know why
Christians pray for a new day
We dont need no, we dont need no, we dont need no
But its still the same way
I wanna know why
Ghetto people pray for a new day
Hey, hey, heeey
And its still the same way
But the preacher man told me
Good things come to those who wait
Do good things come to those who wait?
I wanna know tell me
Good things come to those who wait
Do good things come to those who wait?
We wanna know, we wanna know, we wanna know [pause]
Pe-people
Dont you know that we cant stop the violence, no
Because the war is not over
Until you can feel love, peace, and hear the silence
But I smell gunpowder (gunpowder)
Brooklyns gunpowder (gunpowder)
Shaolins gunpowder (gunpowder)
Uptowns gunpowder (gunpowder)
Jerseys gunpowder (gunpowder)
Even new zealands gunpowder (gunpowder)
Australias gunpowder (gunpowder)
Brixtons gunpowder (gunpowder)
Even new havens gunpowder

Promised
what,
Is it to say-what i am going to say?
I don't know.
But
the died dreams
will not wish canan lands,
blood of the child,
who doesn't know-
who are you,
and who he was him self.
Ever-It is their plight,
to be cruzified.
Since the god
decided to throw them
to deserts.
But that old truth,
older than the holly lands,
older than books,
and the prophets.
Our father,
my, your, and their-
his seeds on two wombs,
brother-we are one,
Think before you take the gun,
and before the cries of
innocent childen.
Before you fight for your religion/nation.
your brother is
killed by your arms,
she is your sister,
who begged to her child.
You may be jew,
you may be muslim,
or christian,
but you are killing your own blood for centuries.
For what?
Which god told you-
that this is for the faith?
He didn't called us
Jew, muslim or christian.
Dear my brother,
shall we stop?
For our children,
for their dream to live.

april & Easter
April & Easter
Easter and April go together especially on a sunny day. The story of Jesus’ death
and resurrection is such a wonderful story and fits well where I walk amongst
olive and almond trees. I enjoy the part when they found the grotto bare, only his
shroud is there it ought to have been blood stained his body had not yet been
oiled and perfumed. James, Jesus’ brother who was going to take over the carpentry,
had warned his older brother not to go too far with the elders, not go around
saying he was god’s son when everybody knew his father Joseph was a carpenter.
Adultery was a stoning offence in those days, and also, it made Maria blush with
embarrassment; but she loved Jesus, the first born followed him around and saw
to it that he had a bath and a clean burnoose. Where I grew up the sky was vast
in April and once I saw a man, in a white suit, disappearing as he walked along
a long, empty road. My father had once been a seafarer and had bought a white
suit in Panama, but why was he walking away from me? I cycled along the road
to catch up with the man in white. Was it my father or Jesus I had hoped to see?
The sun hangs low now it is getting colder and the shadow of the carob tree,
where I often sit unseen and dream, is loosening its spell on me.

He won the lottery when he was born
Took his mothers white breast to his tongue
Trained like dogs, color and smell
Walks by me to get to him police man (2x)
He won the lottery by being born
Big hand slapped a white male merican
Do no wrong, so clean cut...
Dirty his hands, it comes right off
Police man (2x)
Police stopped my brother again (3x)
Police man (2x)
Jesus greets me...looks just like me...
Do no wrong, so clean cut
Dirty his hands, it comes right off
Police man (3x)
Police stopped my brother again (3x)
Police man (2x)
Police stopped my brother again (3x)

Submit a new poem
The smell of a new car
Or perhaps a puppy just born
Coffee brewing in the early morn
Inscence at mass mingled with perfume
Diesel fumes from the bus in the city
Making me dizzy and whoozy and giddy
Aromas so feint I had forgotten
What smelled good
And what smelled rotten
But today I submit a new poem
The smell of all new mother's dream
A newborn to make them smile
And make complete thier life for eternity
Just ask my wife, Love John, A lover of life..

Mother... father... brother...
Walk down this road
In the cool of the night
Dont know whats wrong
But I do know whats right
I am what I am...
