Charles Kingsley

A March

Dreary East winds howling o'er us;
Clay-lands knee-deep spread before us;
Mire and ice and snow and sleet;
Aching backs and frozen feet;
Knees which reel as marches quicken,
Ranks which thin as corpses thicken;
While with carrion birds we eat,
Calling puddle-water sweet,
As we pledge the health of our general, who fares as rough as we:
What can daunt us, what can turn us, led to death by such as he?

Knee Deep In The Water

I'm standing here in this water.
The water that was just at my feet.
But now...
It's up to my knees.
It's gotten deeper.
It keeps getting deeper.
I'm standing knee deep in the water.
Wondering if there's a way out.
No matter where I go,
or where I turn,
I never seem to get out of this water.
It's like a black hole,
it never seems to end.
Am I born to drown in it?
Knee deep in the water,
and I'm still afraid.
I know what's gonna happen.
The water will get deeper.
Deeper until I die,
or drown with it.
When my death comes,
the water will leave.
It's only knee deep,
for now.

Winter Song

Rain and wind, and wind and rain.
Will the Summer come again?
Rain on houses, on the street,
Wetting all the people's feet,
Though they run with might and main.
Rain and wind, and wind and rain.

Snow and sleet, and sleet and snow.
Will the Winter never go?
What do beggar children do
With no fire to cuddle to,
P'raps with nowhere warm to go?
Snow and sleet, and sleet and snow.

Hail and ice, and ice and hail,
Water frozen in the pail.
See the robins, brown and red,
They are waiting to be fed.
Poor dears, battling in the gale!
Hail and ice, and ice and hail.

Peace Proposal

Said General Clay to General Gore really must we fight this silly war
To kill and die in such a bore I quite agree said General Gore
Said General Gore to General Clay we could go to the beach today
And have some icecream on the way a grand idea said General Clay
Said General Clay to General Gore we'll build sand castles on the shore
Said General Gore we'll splash and play let's leave right now said General Clay
Said General Gore to General Clay but what if the sea's closed today
And what if the sand's been blown away the dreadful thought said General Clay
Said General Gore to General Clay I've always feared the ocean's spray
And we may drown it's true we may it chills my blood said General Clay
Said General Clay to General Gore my bathin' suit is slightly tore
We better go on with our war I quite agree said General Gore
The General Clay chanrged General Gore as bullets flew and cannons roared
And now at last there is no more of General Clay or General Gore

The Generals

Said General Clay to General Gore,
'Oh must we fight this silly war?
To kill and die is such a bore.'
'I quite agree,' said General Gore.
Said General Gore to General Clay,
'We could go to the beach today
And have some ice cream on the way.'
'A grand idea,' said General Clay.
Said General Gore to General Clay,
'But what if the sea is closed today?

'A dreadful thought,' said General Clay.
Said General Gore to General Clay,

It chills my blood,' said General Clay.
Said General Clay to General Gore,
'My bathing suit is slightly tore.
We'd better go on with our war.'
'I quite agree,' said General Gore.
Then General Clay charged General Gore
As bullets flew and cannons roared.
And now, alas! there is no more
Of General Clay or General Gore.

A Lament

The merry merry lark was up and singing,
And the hare was out and feeding on the lea;
And the merry merry bells below were ringing,
When my child's laugh rang through me.

Now the hare is snared and dead beside the snow-yard,
And the lark beside the dreary winter sea;
And the baby in his cradle in the churchyard
Sleeps sound till the bell brings me.

Inside the garden
Inside the garden of god
Smell the sand its running through your hands

And where well go in the end
Hear me calling

My mind is like a tree
And I want you to water me
You gotta spread the
You gotta spread the seed

Sit in the shadow just smell the grass
Where the past is buried
Where the future grows so fast

And I want you to water me
You gotta spread the

I only wish my eyes could see
The way you feel for me

Learning to Die

Death is not sudden, death does not grieve,
Death takes a while to achieve.
Death comes in layers;
Death is the mouse
From under the couch
At three am, and from under the stairs.

Death is the tumour on my mother’s skin,
Death is a jackhammer pounding in.
Death is a scrabbling crab on all fours,
Death is a jaguar on rough padded paws,
Lurking in the oven doors,
And hiding in the bureau drawers.

Death is the lump within my breast,
Death is the invited dinner guest.
Death is the cadaver,
A slab of cold meat
That lies on a plate.
Death is the wall of frozen sleet.
Death to me comes much too late.

Red Nature

Red tepid water
drains through building
blocks of slothful thought.
Thrust winds, rain, sleet build
red energy from lightning in
the sky moldering in deception.
A scented red rose with
long thickly sharp prongs
speak of gayety pride.
A red liquid imprint from
an old newspaper personal
dreary same sex ad.
A tornado battled winds blew
down the red old country barn
in depravity of old tired accusations.
Awakening death dreary dark
black clouds with tiers of
red voices speak of
despair, agony and fear.
Red sun rays piercing
confused signs of life of
a lustful inquiry.
Chilly air rips through
the wear and tear
of a red old
withered
jacket
beaten
and
denied.

February Weather

February sulks its shadow
Over moorland, marsh and meadow.
Dreary drizzle unabating,
Then there's weather worse awaiting:
Fog and frost and soft snow drifted
Deep in heaps that can't be shifted,
Rain that pours for hours and hours
Putting paid to plants and flowers,
Howling wind and gusting gale,
Slushy sleet and hammering hail.
Hopefully this woeful weather
Has to pass, not last for ever.
On a brighter note, a thought:
Just be thankful February's short.

Horses in the Snow

Their manes are a wintry white
Frosted with the glittering snow
There backs are dappled light
And shimmer with a frozen glow

Dark browns and golden tones
Contrast with the wonderland
From dark grays to deep roans
The muted colors of the land

Their manes and backs are white
Frosted with the falling snow
The horses dance through the light
Of the shining, shimmering snow

Calling Your Name

There is something I have to say to you before
I am on my knees and Im looking for some answers
Youve got that certain something,
I dont know what to do
Dont tell me what is better, Im just not a fool
Ah, shouldve never done that
Ah, why did I do that?
Ah, will you forgive me?
Im calling, Im calling your name
Ah, shouldve never done that
Ah, why do I do that?
Will you forgive me?
Im calling, Im calling your name
Where the winds would never lie
And I know that it cant be the same
Where the winds would never lie
Im calling, Im calling your name
I just cant let you go, cant let you get away
Im such a fool for you and tired of being second to none
Im gonna take you with me and chase the clouds away
Why cant you see your bodys begging me to stay?
Ah, shouldve never done that
Ah, why did I do that?
Ah, will you forgive me?
Im calling, Im calling your name
Ah, shouldve never done that
Ah, why do I do that?
Will you forgive me?
Im calling, Im calling your name
Where the winds would never lie
And I know that it cant be the same
Where the winds would never lie
Im calling, Im calling your name
We are forever lovers
I just cant take any more
Why dont you call my name?
I wonder why I cant let go
We are forever lovers
I just cant take any more

The Grey Mist Of A Healing Frost

Our tree has frozen in the snow,
its branches are now burdened low,
The waters let their corpses fall,
freezing and burying all.

Like a fog the snow rolls in,
birds fly through as the blizzard begins,
a sea of white covering the land,
proclaiming the King of winter grand.

The heavenly snow is our Delight,
and fills our world with resonating light,
with peaceful Silence floating in the wind,
healing our tree that has been skinned.

White snow

It had snowed for hours
We remained completely indoors
There was no other go then to confine
Though we all were feeing very fine

It was season’s first fall
We waited for nature’s call
The land was covered with white sheet
The area was deep and clad with many feet

The children came out with no fear
The joyous voice was there to hear
They had their own choice to celebrate
It was wonderful experience to narrate

May be we are representing snow
We have not prepared ourselves to grow
Now as river water is frozen to by Celsius zero
There won’t be any reason for us to feel hero

The relations are frozen to dangerous level
There is hardly anything to project or tell
We have become symbolic as nature
Flowing away from secured line of future

I know every year it may come and snow
The icy winds may be faster to flow
It will send chill waves into bones
The ill waves will never be by gone

I will grow with all sorts of cold and rain
It will be only aimed to get something or gain
Nothing is compared to the quality of nature
As he is totally unaware of it or sure

What will be impact of my cold behavior?
Nothing so far as my nature is known to others
It has deep in our blood and mind
We are not for anything good to find

The cold spell may last long
The snow is part of life and belongs
It may bring fortune little later
When turn into water with complete situation to alter
Though clad completely white over vast area of land
We see no hidden plot from nature’s hand
It is her yearly schedule to be in time as expected
We are here to honor it and positively acted

Though very harsh during complete season
We face it willingly without any reason
It has its own charm and in right place
Complete world is in joy to rush for race

It does not baffle anybody not even local man
They are used to it as normal human
The sports person may have their own inception
The general feeling is for warm welcome and reception

We have into being with reality
Nature has its own cycle and quality
We are not copying any of the hard hit calamities
It has its own inherent inbuilt utilities

Life Marches On

In the country
The farms and the orchards swell
With oranges and peaches
A little bit of truth as well
In the city
Politicians beat their drum
All the suits come a runnin'
It's all degeneration
Life Marches On
Life Marches On
Life Marches On
In the country
Everybody thinks we're dumb
But we built the fire
Why'd you come and get you some?
In the city, skyscrapers touch the sky
What's the use in being so high up
When it's only gonna bleed you dry?
Life Marches On
Life Marches On
Life Marches On
In the country
The stars shine brighter
Than in the city
In the country
In the country
In the city
I turn on the radio
Only leaves me down with the question:
What happened to our generation?
Life Marches On
Life Marches On
Life Marches On
Oh yeah, yeah
Life Marches On
Oh yeah
Life Marches On
Life Marches On
Life Marches On

The Homeless

Dry and cold were the bitter winds
that crackled the ice on the panes.
Dry and cold were the old woman's hands,
red and raw from the pains.

Old were these winds that had no end.
They surfaced every winter.
Old were the hands that were this woman's
that felt as if they would splinter.

The winter winds were not welcome
for she had no place to go.
Looking for shelter from the cold,
she welcomed the sight of snow.

For the snow would blanket the box she was in
for a night or two.
She stayed inside it for many long hours
as if it were an igloo.

All through the hours she rubbed her hands.
Through a slit she looked to view,
looking for a slant of sunshine soon
but still the cold winds blew.

This is the plight of the homeless.
This is a curse on our lands.
They found her dead when the sun finally came
with stiff and frozen hands.

A Winter Sunset

The frosty sky, like a furnace burning,
The keen air, crisp and cold,
And a sunset that splashes the clouds with gold
But my heart to summer turning.

Come back, sweet summer ! come back again !
I hate the snow,
And the icy winds that the north lands blow,
And the fall of the frozen rain.

I hate the iron ground,
And the Christmas roses,
And the sickly day that dies when it closes,
With never a song or a sound.

Come back ! come back ! with your passionate heat
And glowing hazes,
And your sun that shines as a lover gazes,
And your day with the tired feet.

Mad Song

The wild winds weep
And the night is a-cold;
Come hither, Sleep,
And my griefs infold:
But lo! the morning peeps
Over the eastern steeps,
And the rustling birds of dawn
The earth do scorn.

Lo! to the vault
Of paved heaven,
With sorrow fraught
My notes are driven:
They strike the ear of night,
Make weep the eyes of day;
They make mad the roaring winds,
And with tempests play.

Like a fiend in a cloud,
With howling woe,
After night I do crowd,
And with night will go;
I turn my back to the east,
From whence comforts have increas'd;
For light doth seize my brain
With frantic pain.

Song Of The Evergreens

Listen to the briskly whistling winter evergreen
Whispering through the frozen morning light
And tell me whats to come
Saying my time is near
Never fear
I close each year
Im winter
Reminding me to trade my t-shirts for my woven wools
Trade my sandals for my skis
Whispered warnings in the wind
Saying soon come the dancing snowflakes
Theyre kissing every tree
Theyre kissing you and me
Please hurry
Falling
Dazzling dancing diamonds from the sky
Prisms
Rainbow sparkled flurries in our eyes
Whipping across the frozen crystal meadow
Pond of ice
Race the snow
Well build a warming fire there
And cuddle close and wine and dine
The setting sun
The morning light will find us high
Shooting down the glistening mountain side
Screaming through the whispering pines
The freedom of each day
Will cleanse our minds
I can hardly wait for winter
I can hardly wait for the snow
I can hardly hardly wait for winter
I can hardly wait for the snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
