What Is Poetry

What is poetry more than words
Thought into existence by a writer.

What is life than a mystery unspurred
No explanation seeming any righter.

What is death than sad feelings blurred
Friends’ burdens becoming not lighter.

What is love than adoration preferred
A bond constantly growing ever tighter.

What is pain than good feelings deterred
Emotions never growing any brighter.

Poetry is so much more words
Reflecting emotions felt by a writer.

Poetry To Me

What is poetry to me- it is words of beauty-words of life
Words of love, pain and sacrifice.
Words of showing and growing and needing and feeding
Words of hope and despairs, wanting and cares.

Poetry takes you into the minds of mankind
From days of old to the present time.
Poetry takes you on trips that you've never been before
And opens up every door.

Poetry becomes a longing, a want, a desire, a need
On which your mind must feed.
It becomes a life within itself
And takes you to the heavens and down to hell.

Poetry becomes a flaming desire
And only writing can put out this fire.
I call it my passion while others say it's my obsession
Yet! No matter what they may think or say
Poetry is here to stay.

So many different types of poetry
For the different minds 'you see'.
You will always find one that will give you meaning
From a loving heart to one that's bleeding.

Jump on the bandwagon and take a hold
For with poetry ' life unfolds'.

The Book Slams Shut

Tell me would I be more beautiful-
If I spoke just like you?
Would I be more willing-
To do the same things that you do?

Superficial and dead;
Yes dead to the core.
Feelings are overrated-
They just seem such a bore!

I felt them all once
Yes, I felt them before
And, then I felt as if I were dying
As if I were Death's Little Wh*re!

So I gave up emotions
I became cold and displaced
I wiped all the tears
That were streaming down my face

I couldn't handle emotions
In love, then in hate
So I ran from my feelings-
I won't be my heart's bait!

Rage now ensues,
Sometimes I feel it.
Yet, even my anger-
I can't seem to reveal it

Life is so fickle
Everything just seems FAKE
That is why it is this world
That I now realize I HATE

I just want to cut myself
To see if I'll bleed
This book now is finished!
It wasn't worth THE READ

So I'm slamming it shut
Yes, I toss it to the ground
No hate has been lost...
And, no love has been found!

Woman In Control

Woman in control 3/24/07

To all the woman who enjoy poetry
My words are here to set you free.
I can climb into your heart and soul
And release all the emotions that you hold.

Feelings that have been locked up inside
Feelings that you try to hide.
All the words that you want to say.
Yet! Never find the way.

Always relish the thought that you are like mother earth.
Brought into this world to show the beauty
And love that you posses
And for you it’s an endless test.

Your beauty is deep within your soul
It is a beauty in which you learned to control.
You can make the bad look good
And the good look bad.
You can be happy or you can be sad.
You have learned to control emotions
And to show man what they want to see
And turn around their hypocrisy.

Now when I look at your face-
I no longer see the satin and lace.
I no longer see a woman who they say is born to lose
But! An intelligent woman who can choose

quotes From Poets On Poetry

** QUOTES FROM POETS ON
POETRY

The great Shakespeare in his ‘A Midsummer
Night’s Dream’,
Speaks of poetry as ‘forms of things unknown,
The poet’s pen turns them to shape,
And gives to airy nothing a local habitation
and a name’!
John Ashbery had always felt, that ‘poetry
all the time goes on in his head’, -
And ‘occasionally he snips off a length’!
For Coleridge, ‘prose is arrangement of words
in their best order’,
But ‘poetry is the best words in their best order’!
For Paul Engle, poetry is ‘ordinary language
raised to the N-th power’,
While for William Wordsworth it is a continuous
shower, -
And ‘a spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings,
Of emotions recollected in tranquility’, - is fairly
healing!
Shelley in his ‘Defense of Poetry’ sincerely felt,
That ‘poetry lifts the veil, from the hidden beauty
of the world’,
Making ‘the familiar objects be as if they were
not familiar’!
While Carl Sandburg speaks of poetry as, -
‘The journal of a sea animal living on land,
Wanting to fly in the air’, - as high as it possibly
can!
Robert Graves declared rather candidly, -
That ‘if there’s no money in poetry’, one need
not feel sorry,
Since there is ‘neither any poetry in money’!
I conclude with Robert Frost, who always felt,
That writing a ‘poem is discovering as he
progressed’,
Since for him, ‘poetry never had a pre-meditated
end’!

Poetry is looking,
at a flower and,
seeing the beauty
hidden within.

Poetry is bringing
out love, deep in
your heart, telling
your love one how you feel.

Poetry is feeling
a cool breeze
as you lie in an open
field, so deep in thought.

Poetry is seeing
the beauty of soft
fluffy white clouds
as no one else does.

Poetry is hearing
sounds of nature
soaking it all in
to mind and soul.

Poetry is watching and
standing by river's edge
seeing rippling water
flowing to places unknown.

Poetry is gazing at
rolling hills stretching
as far, as the eye
can see.

Poetry is digging
deep into inter feelings
bringing it out
and exposing it.

Poetry is love
Poetry is feelings
Poetry is seeing
Poetry is what you are.

Some Poetry For Me

to speak from your heart
is a true form of art

the poetry
flows vibrantly from me

the emotions that pour out
manifest what i am about

shrouded in metaphor and vagary
look not at the surface, reader be wary

crafting feelings
into tangable meanings

articulating thoughts;
into words they are wrought

conjecturing philosophy,
deciphering life's cryptography

this poetry;
it soothes me

The Poetry Of Confession

THE POETRY OF CONFESSION

The poetry of confession -
The poetry of self- indulgence-
The poetry of the ‘wretch con-centered all in self’-
The poetry of moods and feelings-
Of all ideas only as they relate to the poet himself-
The poetry of desperation-
The poetry of need-
The poetry of urgency -
And serving the poet first-

Not enough of the world
Not enough of others- of other perspectives
Not formal and disciplined enough-

The poetry which is not crafted and polished
The poetry in which the need of the poet
Is more central than the quality of the poetry –

The poetry which may be too selfish to be good-
Whose moral failure makes more prominent its aesthetic flaws-

The poetry which is not so good
And not great
But quite banal and commonplace –

A poet can give his life to his poetry
And that still be nothing at all-

T.S. Eliot

The business of the poet is not to find new emotions, but to use the ordinary ones and, in working them up into poetry, to express feelings which are not in actual emotions at all.

Carry Out Feelings

Nazareth
Im not just something you can pick up or put down
Entertainment value, like some circus clown
Dont give green stamps
With my emotions
Donthave a cut price soul
Dont do,
Carry out feelings
Or take away love
Carry out feelings
You take away love
Carry out feelings
You take away love
Dont have the kind of heart
You reap and you take away
Keep in your cold store to use at some future date
Dont give a refund on my emotions
No discounting on my soul
Dont do,
Carry out feelings
Or, take away love
Carry out feelings
You take away love
Carry out feelings
And take away love
Im not just someone you can pick up and throw away
Someone to join you in arecycled love affair
Dont give green stamps with my emotions
Donthave a cut price soul
Dont do,
Carry out feelings
Or take away love
Carry out feelings
You take away love
Carry out feelings
You take away love
Carry out feelings
You take away love

Heart Print

leaving a heart print
behind my poetry
is more than leaving
a treasure
a rare treasure
forever etched in my heart

it is more
than the highest rating that I got
even if some words
are not too deep to utter
nor in a sophisticated manner
but simple words to convey
giving my simple voice behind

it is in writing poetry
that we capture in words our feelings
the magic of human life and emotions

we wanted to convey,
to reach out
to be understood
and to understand

writing poetry
is sometimes lonely
takes me
into that place
of deep feeling
that leads to praying
my conversation to a God
who knows it all,
my all, my everything

thanks a lot,
for those wonderful heart prints
you wonderfully
and lovingly left behind
it means so much to me
they are....
the treasures of the heart

THEY ARE POETS TOO, You are a poet!

THEY ARE POETS TOO, You are a poet!

THOSE who misspell
And those who are still coping up
With their metaphors
The techniques
Of rhyme & beat
Those who think
They do not
Know how to
Write poetry
And those
Who fear
What to say
What to write
What the others say
About their poetry
And those that doubt
Their writing
Abilities
Their thoughts

Their feelings
Their feelings
Their feelings
Yes
Yes
Their feelings

Or those who simply
Fear that they may only
Be displeasing
And disappointing

And those whose
Sense of confidence
About this thing
This poetry
This poem thing
Those that still
Hide what they
Feel to what they
Think

Is prose

Those who think that
Their life
Is not worth
Sharing in the
The beat and
Rhyme of poetry

Behold
The mere thought
About life
About a beating heart
The pulse
The eyes that blink
The fingers fidgety
That type the words

Of feelings
Of feelings
Yes
Yes
About feelings
It is all about feelings

The genuine feelings
Of your life
You type them
Each word
To another word
A chain of words
A long chain of words

Like playing the music
To the piano keys
Like strumming
The strings of a
Flamenco guitar

A certain music
A certain beat
To the sound
Of your computer keys
Hear the beat
And the rhyme
Of your computer keys
Each word
To another word
To a chain of words
To a longer chain of words
You are running a chain of feelings
You are chasing a chain of feelings long chained in your hearts wanting to be free

To be free
To be free
Yes
Yes
You, feeling to be free to run free to be all free

Like you were scattering red rose petals to this pedestal
Like you were sprinkling waters to this garden
Like you were splashing waters in the sea
Like you were bathing playing dancing in the rain
Like you were humming a tune to a trek on a hill
Like you were making love with your beloved the whole night

Behold
A poet in you is born

Behold
You are typing
A poem

You are
Feeling

And you are
By all means

Now a poet

I hereby baptize you
With that name.

Poetic Revolution

Poetry has no simple explanation,
no words to describe how words can describe
or the evokation it causes of emotion and thought

It is a subtle magic that really does work
to be believed in for its ebbing power
grander than the simple folk, and understood by them

It has changed over the many years
from wit and wonder and vocabularic delights
to simple jest and outpouring, when communication breaks down

Who do you find a poet, or poetic, or Poe?
Is it the one who delights you, drowns you, or drags you down...
Or simply any fool with words and a pen?

Nothing is left of its grand glory, even these departed words
that might mean a subdued salvation, growing up
Poetry waits for the next revolution...

REVOLUTION!

Poetry inspired

Poetry is inspired
The sweet melody in my ear
the last word he whispered in my ear
the way i feel when he is near

The touch on my spine when we connect
his chin
his lips
his strength

Culture
past and present too
Tears and fears
Joys and triumphs
births and deaths

Love and hate

Poetry inspires poets
Poets inspire poetry
emotions inspire poetry
every angle of the shape of my nose
when i examine myself closely

sensitivity
attention to detail
simple words on a piece of torn paper
a scent from a rose
cologne
birds singing morning blessings
sometimes it's as sweet as mom's sweet potatoe pie
or sometimes it's deep like

being a woman

from my fingernails to my breast
from my tears to my laughter
from my burdens to my spirituality
poetry is brought alive

it's the little things that make the pen write notes
to the melody that my emotions sing

that being all a poem need

A Poet Of Our

He doesn't like non rhyming poetry ignore what he has to say
About your fashionable writing you are the poet of the day
Your thoughts on paper are as deep as the ocean you are a wise one indeed
You are an emerging writer as a poet you will succeed
Everyone has their opinions no two exactly the same
He doesn't like modern poetry but he has not sullied your name
It only means you are a good writer when others your works criticize
You are a poet of the future you've won a literary prize
At poetry nights you read your verses and always for you there's an encore
You feel so proud and so happy when the audience they beg you for more
People love you for your poetry see you as a poetic great
But not everyone as you know your success will celebrate
He is a man of the fifties he only likes poems that rhyme
So many do love your poetry you are a poet of our time.

For The Humanity's Peace

Who knows how do we feel
We are the art lovers we breath feelings
Our strength is the love of the humanity
Our most valuable possession are our emotions
The honesty of the feelings are our wealth

We pour down our feelings upon white papers
We try to draw down our aches.others pain with colors of our emotions
An expression of a happiness or a love and the most the time about others broken smile
Because we are the most people who really care for others pain

We are the artists the peace and humanity lovers
we pour down our emotions to an empty white papers
To write down a poem
To protect others rights we forget our's
Our feelings are our values
And for humanity's peace we do care the most.
