Margarita

Sundering the bushes like a snare,
More violet than Margarita's tight-pressed lips,
More passionate than Margarita's white-eyed stare,
The nightingale glowed, royally throbbed and trilled.

Like the scent of grass ascending,
Like the crazed rainfall's mercury, the foliage among,
He stupefied the bark, approached the mouth, panting,
And, halting there, upon a braid he hung.

When Margarita to the light was drawn,
Stroking her eyes with an astonished hand,
It seemed, beneath the helm of branch and rain,
A weary Amazon was fallen to the ground.

Her head in her hand in his hand lay,
Her other arm was bent back up to where,
Dangling, there hung her helmet of shade,
Sundering the branches like a snare.

Margarita, ah
Margarita, ah
Ooh
It was in pittsburgh late one night
I lost my hat, got into a fight
I rolled and tumbled till I saw the light
Went to the big apple, took a bite
Still the sun went down your way
Down from the blue into the gray
Where I stood I saw you walk away
You danced away
I asked her what were gonna do tonight
She said cahuenga langa-langa-shoe box soup
We better keep tryin till we get it right
Tala mala sheela jaipur dhoop
She wrote a long letter on short piece of paper
Oh margarita dont stay away too long
Come on home

Senorita Margarita

(track 6 - time 3:50)
(bob pipero/george teren)
She left more than just her lipstick when she walked out
Her memory keeps haunting me thats why Im hunting you down
Its been a long time since our lips met
Youve always been good at helping me forget
Ill regret it in the morning but thats not stopping me now
Senorita, margarita Im as lonesome as a man can be
I still love her
I still need her
Im just hoping you can comfort me
I dont want to do her wrong
I dont need somebody new
I just cant be alone tonight
So senorita, margarita, let me hold you tight
La la la la la la, la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la la
She always comes to her senses with some space and time
And youre just what I needed to cool off this hot head of mine
I hope you realize this is a one night stand
Im gonna get her back, I know I can
So lets keep this between you me the salt and the lime
Senorita, margarita Im as lonesome as a man can be
I still love her
I still need her
Im just hoping you can comfort me
I dont want to do her wrong
I dont need somebody new
I just cant be alone tonight
So senorita margarita, let me hold you tight

Direct To The Point

when the sun lights the grass
there is no detour
it likes it done directly like a
candid shot of
margarita

i like it that way too
straight to my
mouth sliding smoothly into my
throat

there are no rocks that block
my river
no 'on the other hand' or 'what ifs'
that grow in my path

i like it when you tell me
straight from the heart
i like this pain that stabs me right
my eyes not blinking

My Mind Is On You

(dave loggins, don schlitz)
We had a fight
A lovers quarrel
Angry words spoken in haste
Deep in the night
It went out of control
And with tears streaming down my face
I slammed the door and I walked out
Swearing that we were through
Now Im sitting in a bar
Thinking Ive gone too far
Wondering what Im gonna do
Thinking about calling you
Chorus:
To my left blue collar
To my right a high dollar man
Across the bar a smooth bartender
Who thinks Im in the palm of his hand
Well they buy me drinks
Light my cigarette
Theyre all wondering which one Im gonna choose
Oh my hands on my glass
My second margarita
And my mind is on you
My mind is on you
Well I ran away
In a moment of weakness
I couldnt hold my own
I should stay
Because being together
Means more than who was right or wrong
And sitting in a room full of lonely faces
Youre the only one I see
If you only knew
I was thinking of you
Would you come and rescue me
Maybe I should call and see
Repeat chorus
(my third margarita)
I should of known I could never get along
Outside of your love
Its last call
And Im out of cigarettes
They are all wondering what Im gonna do
Oh my hands on the glass
Its my last margarita
And my mind is on you
My mind is on you
My mind is on you

Hung Up On You

Orbison/melson
Hooked on the touch of your hand, high on how you understand
Lost when you whispered hello ,something in your eyes said dont go
I just had to stay, couldnt go away from you, you knew what to do to get me
Hung up on you, hung up on you, hung up on you, hung up on you
You knew, the first time we met that I could never forget
You held me so close to you, I could never get over you
You were so aware how to make me care and keep me
Hung up on you, hung up on you, hung up on you, hung up on you
Yeah, you got me where you wanted me, I am where I really want to be
Hung up,hung up,hung up on you
Im so hung up on you that I dont know what I would do without you
Oh it will take me forever to get enough of you and I cant help it if im
Hung up on you, hung up on you, hung up on you baby, hung up on you
Hung up on you, hung up on you...

Rainy Day Under Trees

She stood with you
under the trees

the rain falling hard
the Sunday church service

had been a wet affair
the walk home together

then the bus
to the end of the road

and she said
Is it ever going to stop?

her hair was limp
and hung over

her forehead
her eyes bright

her complexion white
Sure

you said
But I've built an ark

in the woods behind
just in case

and she laughed
and took your hand

and said
How any animals

have you got so far?
Couple of woodlice

and beetles
and the odd worm or so

and you smelt
the scent on her

the warmth
of her hand

in yours and you both
under the trees

out of the rain
but the drops fell through

You remember that time
we went to the hay barn

to keep out of the rain
and we were wet through

and took of our clothes
and lay in the hay?

she said
snuggling closer to you

No can't say I do
you said

and she smack your arm
and said

Oh yes you do
and there was a break out

from the sun
through the branches

as if you say
I' still here

I'm trying to get through
and she looked at you

and you smiled
and said

I can still smell the hay
and you lying there

beside me
and the damp clothes

hanging over the hay bale
and you and I close

and warmth
and then she put

her finger to her lips
and shushed you

and drops of rain
came onto her head

Let's keep it kind of holy
she said

and kissed your damp ear
her lips like a blessing

soft skin on soft skin
and she moved away

and the rain eased
and you both moved out

into the woods
pleased.

Some Kinda Love

Hey, some kinds of love
Margarita told tom
Between thought and expression
Lies a lifetime
Situations arise
Because of the weather
And no kinds of love
Are better than others
La-dee-ta-ta-ta
Hey, some kinds of love
Now margarita told tom
Well of course, baby, youre a bore
But at that youre not charmless
Because a bore is a straight line
Finds a wealth in division
And no kinds of love
Mistaken for vision
La-dee-ta
Some kinds of love
Now margarita told tom
They turn to division
Woh baby, youre not charming
Oh baby, ....
And no kinds of love
Mistaken for vision
Put jelly on your shoulder
Oh baby, lies down upon the carpet
Put jelly on your shoulder
Lets do what you fear most
That from which you recoil
But still makes your eyes moist
Put jelly, baby, on your shoulder
Lies down, now baby, on the carpet, ooohhh
Ooohhh-ooohhh, ooohhh
Ooohhh-ooohhh-ooohhh, ooohhh-ooohhh
Well some kinds of love
Theyre mistaken for vision
Well I dont know, baby, what its all about
Oh little baby, why dont you come back
Hey, la-dee-ta-ta-ta
Oh no lord, ta-li-ta-li-sha
Oh now baby, la-dee-ta-ta
Oh baby, la-dee-ta, ta-ti-ta-ti-ta
Da-ti-da-ti-ta, la-ta-ta

How Can I Speak About Morality?

All the while they were talking
the new code
of morality

she looks at me
with a margarita on one hand
and smoke on the other
she looks at me
with disdain
and

i think, she feels
so sorry
for my form
and beliefs

she is asking
if i am a professional
virgin, (of course, i am not)

i rise to go
and she follows me
her eyes i mean
slowly undressing me
seeing my
legs and bottoms and waist

she calms down
she waters herself
with some hormones running in her
hands
exiting down to her toes

her fingers feel
like iron rods
to the fragility of my
tissues

how can i speak
about
morality?

Besos De Fuego

Sera tu boca que me provoca
Sera tu forma de besar
Un fuego eterno, un dulce infierno
Que me hace mil veces pecar
Es brujeria tu boca y la mia
Y vuelvo cada vez por mas
Besos sin sabores
Me llevan, vienen y van
Besos de mil colores
Que al cielo me hacen llegar
Sabe sabe a margarita
Sabe sabe a caramelo
Saben saben a la gloria
Tus besos son besos de fuego
Sabe sabe a margarita
Sabe sabe a caramelo
Saben saben a la gloria
Tus besos son besos de fuego
Que sabe que sabe
Pero que sabe que sabe (Caramelo)
Pero que sabe que sabe (Besos de fuego)
Dame uno arriba, dame otro abajo
Dame entero tu besar
Mujer melao, estoy enamorao
Ya no me hagas esperar
Es brujeria tu boca y la mia
Y vuelvo cada vez por mas
Besos sin sabores
Me llevan, vienen y van
Besos de mil colores
Que al cielo me hacen llegar
Sabe sabe a margarita
Sabe sabe a caramelo
Saben saben a la gloria
Tus besos son besos de fuego
Sabe sabe a margarita
Sabe sabe a caramelo
Sabe sabe a margarita
Sabe sabe a caramelo
Saben saben a la gloria
Porque son besos de fuego...
Dame dame de eso de tu boca
Mamita peca en mi cielo
Dame dame de eso de tu boca
Mamita ven que algo quiero
Quiero, quiero besos de fuego...

The Young Lieutenant

The young lieutenant's face was grey.
As came the day.
The watchers saw it lifting white
And ghostlike from the pool of night.
His eyes were wide and strangely lit.
Each thought in that unhallowed pit:
“I, too, may seem like one who dies
With wide, set eyes.”

He stood so still we thought it death,
For through the breath
Of reeking shell we came, and fire,
To hell, unlit, of blood and mire.
Tianced in a chill delirium
We wondered, though our lips were dumb
What precious thing his fingers pressed
Against his breast.

His left hand clutched so lovingly
What none might see.
All bloodless were his lips beneath
The straight, white, rigid clip of teeth.
His eyes turned to the distance dim;
Our sleepless eyes were all on him.
He stirred; we aped a phantom cheer.
The hour was here!

The young lieutenant blew his call.
“God keep us all!”
He whispered softly. Out he led;
And over the vale of twisted dead,
Close holding that dear thing, he went.
On through the storm we followed, bent
To pelt of iron and the rain
Of flame and pain.

His wan face like a lodestar glowed
Down that black road,
And deep among the torn and slain
We drove, and twenty times again
He squared us to the charging hordes.
His word was like a hundred swords.
And still a hand the treasure pressed
Against his breast.

Our gain we held. Up flamed the sun.
“The ridge is won,”
He calmly said, and, with a sigh,
“Thank God, a man is free to die!”
He smiled at this, and so he passed.
His secret prize we knew at last,
For through his hand the jewel's red,
Fierce lustre bled.

Hey Where Have You Been?

have you been to London
to visit the Queen?

hey where have you been?

we are waiting
for another round of drinks
with you

a glass of wine
a marlboro stick
some peanuts
another glass
of margarita

remember the rain
and your naked
feet on the
muddy ground

remember the
storm and the
ceasing of the
thunder

remember me?
i am my poetry
now i must admit.

Acacia of my blood

When I let my eyes go over the earth
in the distance there’s a pretty green tree,
that stands out.

On the edge of Africa
her branches reach to the sky
and she almost touches the clouds.

I see that God could make no other
so wonderful and exceptional
and that as a sprout,
He protected her against overwhelming darkness.

Later a super power’s dread knights had drawn
their strongest weapons against her
and fire touched her bark,
but her thorns made them wrench
and drew painful blood.

She was trodden down and axed to pieces,
but with time her stem sprouted out again
and new shoots shot out
and grew stronger than before.

Out of the North
the enemy tried to put their hand to her again,
but where they stroke
her own gum brought healing
and they were torn apart
by huge branches with thousands of white thorns.

From near there’s great white thorns
that almost throngs each other out
and branches that braid against each other,
as if no one can grow together
and each has a live of its own.

Still they stream from all over the continent
to eat her berries and catch shade in her shadow
and her seedlings are sprouting out all over the world.

Acacia of my blood,
I will always be proud of you
and are called by God to be one of your offspring.

My Other Hand...

the black man's hand,
the poor man's hand.
the Muslim hand, the Jewish hand...
the gay man's hand,
the working man's hand,
the ex-convict's hand,
the farmer's hand, the garbage man's hand...
the Christian's hand, the atheist's hand,
the father's hand, the soldier's hand,
the peacemaker's hand,
the healer's hand, the teacher's hand,
the prodigal's hand, even the murderer's hand...
the victim's hand, the broken hand,
the praying hand, the touching hand...
all, when extended,
feel like my other hand!

Black Sheep

in the silence of the fallen,
we walk hand in hand through the fire.
through the streets of hell unashamed
we who are written by desire.

with prayers for the wounded,
for the bodies left beside the road.
with a hand for the children
bowed beneath a heavy load.

speaking truth without deception,
living by the code of the heart.
knowing there is no difference
in the shadows between light and dark

risking it all for a stranger,
might be your long lost brother.
standing for what we feel
standing for one another.

and the souls of the weary weep....
in the ground where the beaten sleep.
knowing the life given's all we keep.....
fallen angels, fugitives, and black sheep.

Thoughts Of Christmas-Day In India

IT is Christmas, and the sunshine
Lies golden on the fields,
And flowers of white and purple
Yonder fragrant creeper yields.

Like the plumes of some bold warrior,
The cocoa-tree on high,
Lifts aloft its feathery branches,
Amid the deep blue sky.

From yonder shadowy peepul,
The pale fair lilac dove,
Like music from a temple,
Sings a song of grief and love.

The earth is bright with blossoms,
And a thousand jewelled wings,
Mid the green boughs of the tamarind
A sudden sunshine flings.

For the East, is earth's first-born,
And hath a glorious dower,
As Nature there had lavished
Her beauty and her power.

And yet I pine for England,
For my own—my distant home:
My heart is in that island,
Where'er my steps may roam.

It is merry there at Christmas—
We have no Christmas here;
'Tis a weary thing, a summer
That lasts throughout the year

I remember how the banners
Hung round our ancient hall,
Bound with wreaths of shining holly,
Brave winter's coronal.

And above each rusty helmet
Waved a new and cheering plume,
A branch of crimson berries,
And the latest rose in bloom.

And the white and pearly misletoe
Hung half concealed o'er head,
I remember one sweet maiden,
Whose cheek it dyed with red.

The morning waked with carols,
A young and joyous band
Of small and rosy songsters,
Came tripping hand in hand.

And sang beneath our windows
Just as the round red sun
Began to melt the hoar-frost,
And the clear cold day begun.

And at night the aged harper
Played his old tunes o'er and o'er;
From sixteen up to sixty,
All were dancing on that floor.

Those were the days of childhood,
The buoyant and the bright;
When hope was life's sweet sovereign,
And the heart and step were light.

I shall come again—a stranger
To all that once I knew,
For the hurried steps of manhood
From life's flowers have dash'd the dew.

I yet may ask their welcome,
And return from whence I came;
But a change is wrought within me,
They will not seem the same

For my spirits are grown weary,
And my days of youth are o'er,
And the mirth of that glad season
Is what I can feel no more.

To Alcithoë

IN your dim Greece of old, Alcithoë,
Death like a lover sought and crowned you young,
Between the olive orchards and the sea.

When they had twined your myrtle-buds, and hung
The stately cypress at your door, they said,
'Alcithoë is dead,
Before whose feet the flaming crocus sprung,
For whom the red rose opened ere the prime;
Those the gods love are taken before their time.'–

Ah! why did no one, watching you alone,
Snare your dead beauty in undying stone ?
The gold hair bound beneath its golden band,
The milk-white poppies closed within your hand;
That the harsh world a little space might keep
The last, still, exquisite vision of your sleep.
