Our forefathers
High memories with power
Shine through the wintry North
On every peak's white tower,
On Kattegat so swarth.
All is so still and spacious, `
The Northern Lights flow free,
Creating bright and gracious
A day of memory.
Each deed the North defending,
Each thought for greater might,
A star-like word is sending
Down through the frosty night!
To hope they call and boldness,
And call with double cheer
To him, defying coldness,
On guard the Eider near.
No anxious shadows clouding,
No languid, lukewarm mist
Our heaven of mem'ries shrouding,
This eve of battle-tryst!
May, as of yore, while ringing
The bells unseen loud swelled,
Come leaders vict'ry bringing,
Whom th' army ne'er beheld.

At A Banquet Given To The Deputation Of The Swedish Riksdag To The Coronation, In Trondhjem, July 17
You chosen men we welcome here
From brothers near.
We welcome you to Olaf's town
That Norway's greatest mem'ries crown,
Where ancient prowess looking down
With searching gaze,
The question puts to sea and strand:
Are men now in the Northern land
Like yesterday's?
'T is well, if on the battlefield
Our 'Yes' is sealed!
'T is well, if now our strength is steeled
To grasp our fathers' sword and shield
And in life's warfare lift and wield
For God and home!
For us they fought; 't is now our call
To raise for them a temple-hall,
Fair freedom's dome.
List to the Northern spirit o'er
Our sea and shore!
Here once high thoughts in word were freed,
In homely song, in homely deed;
And ever shall the selfsame need
That spirit sing:
Heed not things trivial, foreign, new;
Alone th' eternal, Northern, true
Can harvest bring.
O brother-band, this faith so dear
Has brought us here?
The spirit of the North to free,
Our common toil and prayer shall be,
Those greater days again to see,-
As once before,
Of home and trust a message strong
To send the warring world we long
Forevermore.

Northern Star
Shine so brightly now, Oh northern star!
Shine out bright and clear tonight, Oh northern star!
I say shine out like the sunlight now, Oh northern star!
I say shine out from the darkness now, Oh Alpha-star!
From Hill-tops to the mountain tops!
From the deserts to the Sandy-hills!
From the forests to the jungle paths!
From the Sea-sides to the Ocean-shores!
I say shine out like the sunlight now, Oh northern star!
Shine so brightly now, Oh northern star!
I say shine out bright and clear tonight, Oh northern star!
I will shine out from the darkness, like the northern star!
I will shine out from the rubbles now, Like the Alphastar!

An October Evening
1 The woods are haggard and lonely,
2 The skies are hooded for snow,
3 The moon is cold in Heaven,
4 And the grasses are sere below.
5 The bearded swamps are breathing
6 A mist from meres afar,
7 And grimly the Great Bear circles
8 Under the pale Pole Star.
9 There is never a voice in Heaven,
10 Nor ever a sound on earth,
11 Where the spectres of winter are rising
12 Over the night's wan girth.
13 There is slumber and death in the silence,
14 There is hate in the winds so keen;
15 And the flash of the north's great sword-blade
16 Circles its cruel sheen.
17 The world grows agèd and wintry,
18 Love's face peakèd and white;
19 And death is kind to the tired ones
20 Who sleep in the north to-night.

To The Sky With Love
The Sky symbolizes many things
Freedom, space and the comfort of a heaven
The freedom to be yourself
The space to do what you do
The comfort of a heaven if you believe
And through the Sky shines millions of bright Stars
Stars that may twinkle one night and be gone the next
But there is no Star as significant as the Sun
The Stars of the night are nothing compared to the Sun
From the view of the Earth, even the North Star is nothing
The Sun provides light, heat and the happiness of those on Eartg
You may love the brightest Star, your Evangeline
But eventually you will find the true Star
The Star that lights up your Sky and makes it bright all day
One day you will find your Sun
And your Sun will provide the things you need to survive
Because a Star can only shine her pinpoint of light from a distance
Until she explodes and shows her supernova of colors
And dissapears from your Sky

Shine! Shine my star! (Russian romance)
Shine and shine my loving star!
My shining star, my greeting star.
You are the one and cherished only one,
I'll never have another one.
And when the bright night comes down to the ground
So many stars are in the sky
But you're the one, my star, my beauty star,
You shine in gratifying rays.
The star of hope, the star of paradise,
The star of love and magic days.
You'll always be unsetting star of mine,
My soul will long for you and chase.
And all my life lights up with strength of yours,
Your rays are bright and give me light.
And if I die you shine above the grave
Just shine and shine my loving star!

North star
Look at the north star
Look, North star is there
Only to run life's car
To run in a fixed and
Marvellous manner.
North star north star
I know why you are there
You are there to give
Right direction to the
Directionless
Right word to the wordless.
You are my centrestage
And my life'page
That I can turn
To attain liberation
And to remain fixed
Time's altenation.
North star, I sing
I hear I recite I study
Only your story
And try to acquire
Your qualities to reach
My Master
My Master is also
Your Master
And in this sense
We are brother.
Please help me my brother
I am yours for ever.

When Norway Would Not Help
When Kattegat now or the Belt you sail,
No more will you sight
The Danish proud frigate, no more will you hail
The red and white;
No more will the ringing command be heard
In Wessel's tongue,
No rollicking music, no jocund word,
'Neath Dannebrog sung.
No dance will you see, no laughter meet,
As the white sails shine,
From mast and from stern no garland you greet,
Of arts the sign.
But all that we owned of the treasures on board
The deeps now hold;
One sad winter night to the sea-waves were poured
Our memories old.
It was that same night, when the frigate nigh
To Norway's land
Distress-guns was firing, the surf running high
With sea-weed and sand.
To help from the harbor men put out boats,
But they turn back,…
The frigate toward Germany drifting floats,
A broken wrack!
What once had been ours overboard was strown,
Each kinship mark
Was quickly removed, to the sea it was thrown
With curses stark!
The Northern lion, that figure-head gray,
Now had to fall,
In pieces 'twas hewn, and the frigate lay
Like a shattered wall.
…
Repaired and refitted, its canvas it spread
Near Germany's coast,
With black-yellow flag and an eagle dread
In the lion's post.
When sailing we Kattegat sweep with our eyes,
'T is still evermore.
But a German admiral's frigate lies
Near Scania's shore.

Stay With Me
Listen to the waves as I let them take it all away
Goodbye to you, this is the last line I'll say
Because all these trials they're just too much
I no longer feel the warmth of your loving touch
One mistake they make, it's a chance I'll take
I once again want to be in your arms when I fall awake
So I'll follow the clues they missed and watch their moves
And show you a truth those in black and white couldn't prove
You tell me that what I do isn't the right way to let it go
A memory of a time where I thought I should know
You shake your head and I take a pill, let the ghost lay
Because this blooded hope in my arms is the word I say
Walk silent, fallen into the shadows, please stay with me
They beg me to let them be, but I can't ignore the red I see
‘I'm scared don't let the red blood flow, don't make me go'
Sweet memories repeat in my mind as they die so slow
Take this away; make it all better like you did once before
Let me lay in your arms, the deed is done, I know they saw
From my bed made from their bones I kiss sweet lips now
I told you I'd make it better; I lost you to the same deed so foul
I sleep under a roof so white, stay with me until my last night
They tell me you're long gone but I know that they're not right
Your hands they were cold, so I made them feel the same ice
I took what they stole but men in white told me that wasn't nice
They tell me lots of lies; try to tell me you lie deep in the ground
But how can that be when I see you here, so free and unbound
So stay with me when they come for me and make them see
That they can't cage us, me and you we will always be free

The Ocean
They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters, these see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
~ Psalm cvii. 23, 24.
HE that in venturous barks hath been
A wanderer on the deep,
Can tell of many an awful scene,
Where storms for ever sweep.
For many a fair, majestic sight
Hath met his wandering eye,
Beneath the streaming northern light,
Or blaze of Indian sky.
Go! ask him of the whirlpool's roar,
Whose echoing thunder peals
Loud, as if rushed along the shore
An army's chariot wheels;
Of icebergs, floating o'er the main,
Or fixed upon the coast,
Like glittering citadel or fane,
'Mid the bright realms of frost;
Of coral rocks, from waves below
In steep ascent that tower,
And fraught with peril, daily grow,
Formed by an insect's power;
Of sea-fires, which at dead of night
Shine o'er the tides afar,
And make th' expanse of ocean bright
As heaven, with many a star.
Oh God! thy name they well may praise,
Who to the deep go down,
And trace the wonders of thy ways,
Where rocks and billows frown.
If glorious be that awful deep,
No human power can bind,
What then art Thou, who bidst it keep
Within its bounds confined!
Let heaven and earth in praise unite,
Eternal praise to Thee,
Whose word can rouse the tempest's might,
Or still the raging sea!

Starlight
Up to the sky
I'm just only a little star
My faint color seen from a far
Loyal to love the night
I am not the brightest one
But i share the light
In my simple poem
Talking about you and me
Reason why this poem was written
In a paper, but in heart you will not be forgotten
Up to the sky
Just a little star, someone who i am
Your wish reaches me up to the sky
Sending me a shine in thousands miles
So i twinkle you little bright smile
and I will keep shine till i die
In a big space of glory
I am only a little star
Even we are far my dearies
The shine is our story
For loyalty and wishing on me
I could be your fallen star
Wish all the best of all
Catch when you are fall
Hope our shine forget it all
I am just a little star
when each of you stick with me
It makes me feel like a biggest one
Each wish goes through this night
sending me more stunning light
Beautiful me, I gain intense bright
But the shine is our story
In a big space of glory

What a huge day of 13th of July, everyone
send light to me for a smile, so this only i can
give, the big smile as my reply...I am just
a little star but with all of you the night
we shared glory in perfect shiny story

North And South Of The River
I want to reach out over the Loch
And feel your hand across the water
Walk with you along an unapproved road
Not looking over my shoulder
I want to see, and I want to hear
To understand your fears
But we're north and south of the river
I've been doing it wrong all of my life
This holy town has turned me over
A young man running from what he didn't understand
The wind from the Loch just get colder, colder
There was a badness that had its way
But love wasn't lost, love will have its day
North and south of the river
North and south of the river
Can we stop playing these old tattoos
Darling I don't have the answer
I want to meet you where you are
I don't need you to surrender
'Cause there's no feeling that's so alone
As when the one you're hurting is your own
North and south of the river
North and south of the river
North and south of the river
Some high ground is not worth taking
Some connections are not worth making
There's an old church bell no longer ringing
Some old songs are not worth bringing
North...

North and south of the river

Forward
'Forward! forward!'
Rang our fathers' battle-cry.
'Forward! forward!'
Norsemen, be our watchword high!
All that fires the spirit and makes the heart's faith bright,
For that we forward go with might
And faithful fight.
'Forward! forward!'
Whoso loves a home that's free.
'Forward! forward!'
Freedom's course must ever be.
Though it shall be tested by doubt and by defeat,
Who will the losses' count repeat
When vict'ries greet?
'Forward! forward!'
Whoso trusts in Norway's day.
'Forward! forward!'
Whoso goes our fathers' way.
Hid in Northern mountains are spirit-treasures true
They shall, when dawns the morning's blue,
Come forth anew.

During A Journey In Sweden
My boyish heart in thee confided,
For to the great by thee 't was guided.
As man, my waiting is for thee,-
The Northern cause with thee, with thee!
Rich lands and talents are thy dower,
But fallow lie thy wealth and power.
Thou must the North in concord bind,
Or never shalt thy true self find.
There's longing in thy folk arisen,
Poetic hope-but yet in prison.
Though forces great within thee dwell,
Thou art not wholly sound and well.
Too many things are undertaken,
Too oft the task is soon forsaken.
Though rich in promptings of the heart,
In faith and duty faint thou art.
In danger only hast thou thriven,
When something great to guard was given.
When every breast with warmth shall glow
At Sweden's name, thy strength thou'lt know.
What's thine alone lifts not thy feeling,
Till honor's cause the skies are pealing,
Thou hast no joy but daring deed
In fortune's favor or in need.
For thy fair memories inspiring
Are far too great, much more requiring:
The Northern cause! Lead thou the way!
'T will double glory thee repay!
Of all thou canst, this is the greatest,
Thy duty earliest and latest.
Thy future rests in its embrace
With cure for ills that now abase.
Thou land of heart-born fancies thronging,
Thou land of poetry and longing,
Fill now thy heart, thy spirit free!
The Northern banner waits for thee!

Star Bright
Star bright, first star I see tonight
Could you oh would you please shine your light
Shine it so I can see, my savior smilin at me
Star bright, I hear you once proclaimed
This is the way, keep on followin me
And at the end of the road will be, a baby
And there, in him youll find, a love that is truly blind
Given so from your heart that love that light, could shine
Shine, shine, shine, shine
Star bright, first star they saw that night
I am aware that this love is for me
And the greatest of gifts is free
Yet my heart of hearts is heavy
Star bright, if I give you my hand
Could you oh would you please see me through
I would love to take my heart blue, and give it to you
And there, in my heart youll find, a love that is truly blind
Given to me, so that I could let my, light shine
Shine, shine, shine, shine,
Star bright
Star bright, star bright, star bright
Star bright, star bright
Shine your light

Ring For Freedom
Let the bells ring for freedom
Let the bells ring out loud
And hope the people again will hear them
While answering back with a shout.
Let the bells begin their ringing
A ringing that will never end
And hope the people will hear our singing
Then from peace we will send.
Hope the bells will start their ringing
By ringing loud and singing long
Pray the people will sing and shout
And to that sound, a peaceful song.
Let the bells ring for freedom
Hope that ringing will never cease
I hope the people will hear them ringing
And all together in its peace.
Hand in hand and arm in arm
With smiles and laughs that stand together
Trouble nowhere and nowhere is there harm
Hope they will keep it from and and forever.
Let the bells all ring in rhyme
Now and forever to the end of time
A time to hold and a time to smile
To dream once again just like a child.
Let the bells ring for freedom
Now and forever for peace to send
Let the people hear them ringing
Hope that music will never end.

Ports-of-call
Written by gerry beckley and dewey bunnell, 1994
Found on hourglass.
I cant help thinkin as those ships sail away
What sirens beckon and call
How long at sea this time how long between
The ports-of-call, ports-of-call
Under the bridge they move to far off lands
Maybe australia or north african sands
Complete the mission, supply and demand
To ports-of-call, ports-of-call
And everyday as the sun is setting
Along the bay city lights appear
Snake charmers sway while the smoke is rising
Time is growing near
When theyll be casting off anchor as they sail away
Into the morning light
Rising and falling thru the blue and gray
To ports-of-call, ports-of-call
And everyday as the sun is setting
Along the bay city lights appear
Snake charmers sway while the smoke is rising
Time is growing near
And everyday as the sun is setting
Along the bay city lights appear
Snake charmers sway while the smoke is rising
Time is growing near
Ill take the chance this time to change my world (change my world)
And break those ties that bind (ties that bind)
Far from those people passing through my life
Like ports-of-call, ports-of-call
Under the bridge Ill move to far off lands (far off lands)
Maybe australia or north african sands (north african sands)
Complete my mission, hope you understand
Ports-of-call, ports-of-call
Ports-of-call, ports-of-call
Ports-of-call, ports-of-call ...

Be Thou My Vision
Be thou my vision, oh lord of my heart
Nought be all else to me, save that thy art
Thou my best thought in the day and the night
Waking or sleeping, thou presence my light
Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word
I ever with thee and thou with me lord
Thou my great father and I thy true son
Thou in me dwelling and I with thee one
Be thou my breastplate, my sword for the fight
Be thou my armour and be thou my might
Thou my soul shelter, and thy my high tower
Raise thou me heavenwards, oh power of my power
Riches I need not, nor mans empty praise
Thou mine inheritance through all of my days
Thou and thou only though first in my heart
High king of heaven my treasure thou art
Oh high king of heaven, when battle is done
Grant heavens joy to me, bright heaven sun
Christ of my own heart, whatever befall
Still be my vision, though ruler of all
Da, da, da, da, da, etc.

Shine On
The greatest gift, the gift of life
The gift of love divine
God gave us all a special gift
He meant for it to shine
He meant for it to shine
The darkest night can be made light
By one bright word or smile
If wed put on our neighbors shoes
And choose to walk a mile
God gave us all our own free will
To choose the paths we take
No greater deed could eer be done
Than for anothers sake
The greatest gift, the gift of life
The gift of love divine
God gave us all a special gift
He meant for it to shine
He meant for it to shine
Shine on, shine on, for all to see
Gods light inside your soul
Shine on, shine on, let love flow free
Warm others in its glow
Shine on, shine on, shine on
So hide it not or it will fade
Shine on, shine on, shine on
Shine on, shine on, shine on
The greatest gift, the gift of life
The gift of love divine
God gave us all a special gift
He meant for it to shine
Shine on, shine on, shine on

A Christmas Letter From Australia
’T IS Christmas, and the North wind blows; ’t was two years yesterday
Since from the Lusitania’s bows I looked o’er Table Bay,
A tripper round the narrow world, a pilgrim of the main,
Expecting when her sails unfurled to start for home again.
’T is Christmas, and the North wind blows; to-day our hearts are one,
Though you are ’mid the English snows and I in Austral sun;
You, when you hear the Northern blast, pile high a mightier fire,
Our ladies cower until it ’s past in lawn and lace attire.
I fancy I can picture you upon this Christmas night,
Just sitting as you used to do, the laughter at its height:
And then a sudden, silent pause intruding on your glee,
And kind eyes glistening because you chanced to think of me.
This morning when I woke and knew ’t was Christmas come again,
I almost fancied I could view white rime upon the pane,
And hear the ringing of the wheels upon the frosty ground,
And see the drip that downward steals in icy casket bound.
I daresay you ’ll be on the lake, or sliding on the snow,
And breathing on your hands to make the circulation flow,
Nestling your nose among the furs of which your boa ’s made,—
The Fahrenheit here registers a hundred in the shade.
It is not quite a Christmas here with this unclouded sky,
This pure transparent atmosphere, this sun midheaven-high;
To see the rose upon the bush, young leaves upon the trees,
And hear the forest’s summer hush or the low hum of bees.
But cold winds bring not Christmastide, nor budding roses June,
And when it ’s night upon your side we ’re basking in the noon.
Kind hearts make Christmas—June can bring blue sky or clouds above;
The only universal spring is that which comes of love.
And so it ’s Christmas in the South as on the North-Sea coasts,
Though we are starved with summer-drouth and you with winter frosts.
And we shall have our roast beef here, and think of you the while,
Though all the watery hemisphere cuts off the mother isle.
Feel sure that we shall think of you, we who have wandered forth,
And many a million thoughts will go to-day from south to north;
Old heads will muse on churches old, where bells will ring to-day—
The very bells, perchance, which tolled their fathers to the clay.
And now, good-night! and I shall dream that I am with you all,
Watching the ruddy embers gleam athwart the panelled hall;
Nor care I if I dream or not, though severed by the foam,
My heart is always in the spot which was my childhood’s home.
