Diwali, let us make it a celebration for have not's as well
Diwali whose original name is
Deepavali
Meaning row of lamps
Is the main festival of the
Indian Subcontinent
Its puranic reference is that
This day Rama goes back to his Kingdom
After 14 years of forest living
And thus marks the beginning
Of a just and fair ruling by a King
While many other festivals
Are celebrated collectively on a community basis
Diwali is celebrated personally
And by each family in its own traditional ways
As in other festivities
Sharing of sweets and other edibles
With neighbourhood and family friends
Is also there
But the celebration is totally personal
And you decide your extent of celebration
Buy new clothes
Buy new ornaments
Buy new utensils
Buy crackers
Buy sweets
Celebrate Diwali
There is of course a need
To think about those
For whom all the above are luxuries
And people celebrating Diwali
Provide for those
Who cannot afford a celebration of this sort
A visit to orphanage
A visit to old agers home
And a small gifts to inmates
Can go a long way
In giving a special meaning
To these celebrations
Let us do something
And make Diwali
A celebration for
Have not's as well

Let in you be there a great self
On this Diwali day
Let crackers play
Let new dresses sway
Let sweets be shared
Let great wishes exchange
At the same time
From this day onwards
Let in you be there an awakening
Let in you be there an enlightenment
Let in you be there a bliss
Let in you be there a fire for progress
Let in you be there a kindness to all
Let in you be there a broader understanding
Let in you be there a feel for cohesive co-existence
Let in you be there a love for nature
Let in you be there a self-actualization
Let in you be there a balanced outlook
Let in you be there a fairness in all your dealings
Let in you be there a clarity for all your doubts
Let in you be there a touch of divine
Let in you be there a great self and
Let me wish you a happy Diwali

A Celebration of Family, Community and Culture
When a snowman winks his eyes of coal,
And from their windows children know...
Magic's in the air.
And they wish they are on Santa's list.
As children everywhere wish this.
The Christmas Trees that are trimmed with them,
Excites with the bright lights shining.
Dining festively on treats...
Will be remembered year to year.
This and every Christmas.
Joyous Eid al-Adha (The Festival of Sacrifice)
'A Celebration of Family, Community and Culture'
Merry Christmas...
'A Celebration of Family, Community and Culture'
Happy Chanukah...
'A Celebration of Family, Community and Culture'
Happy Kwanzaa...
'A Celebration of Family, Community and Culture'
And...The Best of New Years to Come,
To ALL in Celebration of United Humanity.

Immortal Love
When you lie beside me
Naked and Bare -
With the warmth of my caresses
Touching you everywhere...
You'll feel the power of my
Passionate Love -
Melting away the icy coldness
In your Persona -
Igniting the effervescent Flame
Of eternal love and endless passion
Those raw desires of human emotion.
Like the beautiful, bright candles of Diwali
And the lovely, fragrant roses of Valentine
Our love will sparkle and shine forever...
With the misty fragrance of togetherness
Like the lingering aroma of scented candles
Which permeates the air and hangs on there...
Long after the candles have flickered out.
So may our love be eternal and effervescent
Like the fragrant roses of Valentine
And the sparkling candles of Diwali.
For no matter -
How many roses wither out,
How many candles blow out,
There is always the Valentine's Day
And the Festival Diwali to celebrate.
Every year, on a special day
With more new roses,
And more lovely candles.
So the essence lives on...
And the celebration too
Just like we celebrate Love
With all its highs and lows
Loving ourselves...
And loving the you in me
And the me in you.
Even if our life fizzles out -
Like the withering roses
And the melting candles
Beyond life unto death,
Beyond death, into after-life...
Our love takes us on, and lives on
Long after we are dead and gone.
And the memories and the remnants
Remain on this Blessed Earth -
The fragments of our love and pain
Inspiring others to carry on
living and loving each other,
Whatever be the weather...
Be it the warm sunshine
Or the stormy rain.
Those memories, those remnants -
In our letters, words and poems
For others to read, relish and cherish
And bless our souls...
May be, with their wishes and prayers,
We might become 'one' in heaven
After shedding our dualities
On this mortal earth -
When our breathing bodies, die and perish.

Let us celebrate
Celebration means rejoicing
An achievement
An advancement
A successful accomplishment
A commemoration
In all these
There were efforts
Struggles against odds and
Challenges
Greater the effort
Tougher the struggle
Grander the celebration
Examine the celebrations
We launch normally
We celebrate birthdays
Wedding days
Marriages
An elevation in social or professional status
An acquisition of property
Nationally or politically important events
A range of festivals depending on the faiths we tag on
How many of them
Deserve being celebrated
You will come to know
Some of them, if not many
Need no celebration
As there were no efforts of ours
And there were no struggles
Then why do we celebrate
We celebrate because
Others do so or
We can afford to do so
Time has come
Where there is a limitation on resources
Resources here mean
Those we are endowed by nature
Not those that are man made
And available at a price
Many celebrations denude nature
Of its priceless resources
And we consume these non-renewable and
Non-replenishable resources
Just to show we can do that
And in the name of celebrations
Which do not really mark any
Achievement or accomplishment
Following our effort or struggle
Let us celebrate
But let us restrict the number of celebrations
So that the future generations too
Will have something to celebrate

Deity of success and prosperity
Inner peace and serenity
Worshipped on the occasion of Diwali

About Yet Another Diwali Woe
Yet another Diwali has come with its entire glow,
Nay; its fury of sounds and flames
And the masses go crazy upsetting the tune of a happy time
Here in India with minds cracked down and deafening sounds raving on.
They buy crackers and rockets and blast up the regions calm
And they call it celebrations colourful with a difference
And go on burning the little bombs and shooting the tiny missiles.
The diyas* and the sweet dishes take a back seat
The pious women go unseen and their chants go unheard.
Diwali is all sounds and sounds and nothing else at all!
The demon king`s defeat and death at the hands of
Krishna**, the deity with a flute on the mouth
Reverberates with the message of victory of the good over the evil
Down the generations since the Aryans descended.
A baby being nourished and moulded in its mother`s womb
Wakes from its slumber and lies scarred and doomed
Its nightmare of future terror has just come true!
A septuagenarian oldie puts his hand on the heart and falls down,
He has just been out of the surgeon`s dark chamber
After a by-pass surgery done at his son`s mercy.
Then a crippled man struggles to reach his home.
How will all of them go on these tracks ever blasting?
The Diwali casts a spell of joy and happiness knit together!
But terrorizes all the animals and birds, the ones without
Gods, scriptures, castes and religions
And they flee from their small homes and nests
To reach nowhere they can breathe and lie un panicked.
The human civilization once threw them from the throne of equality
Man`s supremacy chained and caged them up for ever,
His religions re-animalised them further.
A blinded cat and bleeding mongrel line up next!
And man`s celebrations ever continue to cripple them for ever….
See, a dozen rodents lie with broken heads,
Feel it for yourselves, a hut has been on fire for long,
And an old camel has got a burn on its haunch.
A small kid on prowl has lost his vision
And two girls were crying after burning their palms both.
They were too celebrating the festival of Diwali!
All go frenzied with the logic of sounds
Of bursting crackers in all ecstasy!
A cracker manufacturing factory gets blown up
And the inferno kills tens and scores every time.
Hundreds of imprisoned pets
Shiver with dread and their small hearts
Pound and pout for hours together.
The sky too shakes and vomits sparks of fire
Innumerable feathered friends flutter aloud
And fly unto lands less populated.
Why this frenzy at all?
Is a festival here to destabilize a few
Even while cheering up many?
Do we have any right to instill fear and fright
In the small minds of our puppies and kitten?
Do we have any common sense at all
When we celebrate a festival this way madly?
An alien writing from the space stations above the earth`s reach
Will begin to wonder about the folly of this noise
Imposed on all the living stocks
Without any discretion or empathy
And he/she will report to the masters anxious
About this fury and sound ever emerging
Signifying nothing but a soon-to-be lost speck of life
In India on this peninsula of past glory!

Diwali
They saw and heard
The sparklers
Burning bright.
They saw and heard
The rockets
Zipping past the night.
They saw and heard
The fountains going
Whoosh!
They saw and heard
The various aerial
Displays that lit up
The night sky with
Their colourful arrays.
And you ask me, dear
What all fireworks
I saw and heard? !
I was so entranced seeing
You making love to me
With your eyes,
Telling me in what all ways,
You love me,
How often you miss me…
All the colours of Diwali
Sparkled before my eyes!
I just saw and heard - you,
You and only you, your love
For me…making my Diwali!

A mourned celebration
Just four days back
It was all a celebration
The only son in the family
Got baptized in the Hindu way
He was decorated with
A three-stringed twine
The three strings representing
His henceforth pursuit
For understanding the Brahman, the supreme power
Through his thought, word and deed
Yesterday it was reception
The grand finale of this celebration
With people and relatives
Joining the occasion
And enjoying an auspicious dinner
Wishing the boy
A successful bachelorship
And in the understanding
Of the traditional ways
A couple and their only son
Have to offer excuse
And leave the celebrating scene
As there was a call
From the worksite of the
Male breadwinner of the family
To attend an emergency break down
They rushed and managed
To get into a train
Not in its originating station
But at the next stop
After a successful chase in a cab
The train left carrying this family
Who were denied being a part
Of the celebration
They slept in the train
But not to wake up again
It was sabotage that
Derailed the train
Particularly dislodging the bogie
In which the family travelled
On to the adjacent rail
And in seconds a hurrying
Goods’ train ran over the same
Within six hours of a reception dinner
And within ninety six hours of a celebration
Everything ended with mourning
It will remain ever in the family
For long, quite long
A mourned celebration

Life Is A Celebration
I was lost on a winding road
I thought that life had nothing left to give
Then you came and showed me that just to live
Was the greatest gift of all
And you showed me
Life is a celebration
And lord, Im gonna celebrate
Dont you know that life is a celebration
So come on now and celebrate, celebrate
Life is a celebration
Look its a revelation
So celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
Celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
How could I have been so blind?
Just to think that we were living to die
Then you came along and I was no longer alone
And you lead me to the light
And you showed me
Life is a celebration
And lord, Im gonna celebrate
Dont you know that life is a celebration
So come on now and celebrate, celebrate
Life is a celebration
Look its a revelation
So celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
Celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
And you showed me life is a celebration
And lord, Im gonna celebrate
Dont you know that life is a celebration
So come on now and celebrate, celebrate
Life is a celebration
Look its a revelation
So celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
Celebrate now, celebrate life, yeah
Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate, celebrate
Celebrate, celebrate life

Diwali 2009
The 'Festival of Lights'
Has come again this year;
Let’s see the glorious sights
That cause revelry dear!
It marks the victory
of good over evil;
’Tis time to eat sweet food,
And have great deal of fun.
’Tis time to wear new clothes,
And burst crackers of kinds;
’Tis time to share our joy
With all, we see around!

Graceful Celebration
Today is a graceful celebration
with shiny sunny skies, sparkling, glistening, gleaming
The celebration is in the company we keep.
The mood we meet in the morning
Today is a graceful celebration
angels flying in the sky
Today is a graceful celebration
fireworks going off in the twilight
Today is a graceful celebration
moon is peaking out of the clouds
Today was....a graceful celebration Tommorrow will even be better :)

Bleak
Days are as bleak as the nights
Festival of colours or that of lights
Happy Holi or Happy Diwali
Don’t mean anything to me…
My heart wallows in abject misery
Broken, defeated and very unhappy.

Celebrate You
I wear my patent leather shoes,
And my golden fleeces,
A feather in my hair for you,
And then I fall to pieces.
At your celebration (oh-oh, oh-oh)
Celebration (oh-oh, oh-oh) x2
Celebrate you.
Were quiet as two mannequins
Feasting on silences.
We wait for christmas to begin
To see the cracking faces.
I tip my glass a toast to you,
The blood spills on the carpet.
At your celebration (oh-oh, oh-oh)
Celebration (oh-oh, oh-oh) ( x2 )
Celebrate you.
And in the dream you held a gun,
You killed off all who hurt you,
And left me there the only one
Who would not dare desert you.
Im safe here growing in the shade,
Away from all the brightness.
I lost my innocence today
When I learned how to write this.
Tonight my nightgown is in knots.
I toss and turn in your honor.
Ill never know just what Ive got
As long as youre my father.
And Ill keep searching here for you,
Ill clean out every corner.
Its not my fault.
Its not my fault. (celebrate you) x3
Its not my fault.

0078 Thanksgiving Day
A celebration of the grace
of the past, or
a celebration of the grace
of today?
For thousands of years,
the Native Americans
whose origin is so mysterious
held, as do all the peoples in the world,
a celebration of the harvest
now brought home, rejoicing
in its abundant wealth and
offering gratitude to that source
from which it comes - as do we...
And how ironic, looking back,
that the Pilgrim Fathers, unprepared,
as many townsfolk among them were,
for the art of farming in a foreign land,
were taught, from those thousands of organic years
of experience, by those very native Americans -
Wouldn't you like to have seen, been there,
that day in 1621, as settlers
and the invited Indian chiefs
sat down together to celebrate the harvest
in brotherhood?
And then, today: beside remembrance of the past,
how beautiful to dedicate a day
to thinking, listing, all the many things
which we may be truly grateful for.
Will a day be long enough?
It's said, that every year
the day after the Thanksgiving feast
the wild turkeys of America, gathering,
as Native Americans of ancient, brown-faced line,
with lively turkey-trot and song and
stuffing themselves in rather
more natural ways, celebrate
survival

A celebration that last throughout the years

Sonnet: Diwali,2012
Deepavali is back again this year!
But power-cuts and water-scarcity
Have caused some gloom in hearts of near and dear,
In villages, towns and every city!
Yet, people must enjoy despite all odds!
The ‘Festival of Lights' must brighten lives,
And free the nation from all kinds of frauds,
As ‘bees go back to labour in their hives! '
The day could lose its sheen this year, it seems!
Many have lost their jobs with prices high;
The rains have failed and wrecked the farmer's dreams;
Yet, God may work His miracles of sky!
This is a day of hope as light prevails
O'er life's darkness as ship of life sets sails!

A Special Deepavali
Light up the faces of the poor
With smiles and laughter, cheer and joy!
Enquire health of those that are ill;
Comfort them with consoling words!
Remember those who lose their lives
In accidents, making crackers;
Take care, avoiding noisy blasts,
That rupture ear-drums of those nigh!
Share foods and clothes with slum-dwellers;
Avoid all lavish spending please;
Give charity to deserving;
A billion people starve each day.
Let austerity enter homes;
Let peace prevail in neighborhood;
Let fire-works express the joy
Of sharing, loving brotherhood!

Happy Diwali, 2011
I cannot wish with flowers,
For they belong to God;
I cannot wish with sweet foods,
For they are man-made all!
I cannot wish with rare gifts,
For they may not be apt;
I cannot wish with greetings,
For they are soon forgot!
I cannot wish with crackers,
For they make noise and smoke;
I cannot wish with clothes new,
For they can lose their charm!
But I can wish with words of love,
Those come straight from my heart;
Today, good won o’er evil;
Let’s share this truth by art!
Let light prevail o’er darkness,
And illumine this world;
Let love of human life spread,
And glorify the Lord!
