Free Fall

A long while, a long long while it seems:
The bat-winged figure shaking his robe,
The cameras purring.

It is Daedalus the tailor, up on the Eiffel Tower
Ready to fly. The year is 1900;
We watch it, now.

...Shakes at his bat-robe, first to the right,
Then left, then right again, a twitch,
A doubtful gesture.

'Cast thyself from the pinnacle, angels will bear thee up.'
So great a height - the wings will surely beat
And bear me up?

Shaking his robe. A mile of film we are wasting:
Why doesn't he jump? In these long seconds
What is he thinking?

That the plan was crazy, and the careful stitches
Shaped him a shroud? Perhaps he is wondering
How to withdraw.

To pretend a flaw in the work, a change in the wind;
And imagines how it would be to face
The jeering crowd,

Slink back to his trade and live, with nothing to live for.
So still he hesitates, and shakes his shroud,
Then, suddenly, jumps.

Not even a flap from the wings. The lens below
Can barely follow the plummeting shape,
So quick his fall,

Hollowing out his own grave.
We are caught between dismay and laughter
Watching it now -

Not in a myth, not a century back, but now.
Ridiculous death. Yet as he stood on the tower,
Shaking, shaking his robe,

He mimed what each man must in private try,
Poised on the parapet of darkness -
Each in that crowd, and you, reader, and I.

Midsummer New York

Wake up in the morning, my hands cold in fear.
And midsummer new york my heart shakes in terror.
My heart, my hands, my legs, my mind,
Evrything I touch is shaking, shaking, shaking, shaking,
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, oooh.
Wake up in the morning, my beds wet in sweat.
And midsummer new york, scream in the mirror.
And the door, and the chairs, and the floor, and the ceiling,
Evrything you see is aching, shaking, shaking, shaking,
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, oooh.
And you shake, shake, shake, shake, shake,
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, oooh.
Wake up in the morning, my minds dried up in pain.

The window, the trees, the park, the sun,
The whole world s shaking, is shaking, shaking,

To Cry You A Song

Flying so high, trying to remember
How many cigarettes did I bring along?
When I get down Ill jump in a taxi cab
Driving through london town
To cry you a song.
Its been a long time --
Still shaking my wings.
Well, Im a glad bird
I got changes to ring.
Closing my dream inside its paper-bag.
Thought I saw angels
But I could have been wrong.
Search in my case,
Cant find what theyre looking for.
Waving me through
To cry you a song.
Its been a long time --
Still shaking my wings.
Well Im a glad bird
I got changes to ring.
Lights in the street,
Peeping through curtains drawn.
Rattling of safety chain taking too long.
The smile in your eyes was never so sweet before --
Came down from the skies
To cry you a song.

Long Flowing Robe

Cruising makes some people get uptight
But nothing beats a lonely friday night
Friday night, nothing much to do but hang around
Think I might just grab myself a cab and head downtown
And for hours, I hang around the dance hall crowd
I feel like a boor
But then I turned around and cast my eyes to the door
In a long flowing robe
She appeared at the ballroom door
I was hard-pressed to know
What I hoped she was looking for
Coming on at first may not seem right
But nothing beats a lover at first sight
What a sight, nothing can compare with simple grace
Its all right, I see it in the look upon her face
That she wants me the same way that Im wanting her
In fact maybe more
But as I take her hand
She turns and heads for the door
In a long flowing robe
She took off through the ballroom door
I was hard-pressed to know
What did she go and do that for
Friday night, nothing left to do but go to bed
Sleeping tight, when something stirring deep inside my head
Said wake up and cast your eyes to the door.
In a long flowing robe
She appeared at the bedroom door
I was hard-pressed to know
What I knew she was looking for

Shaking Off The Chains

Is life everything you want to be,
Does it give you everything that you need,
Does it live up to your expectations,
Are you ready for the celebrations.
This is not for the weak of mind,
Are you sure that youre my kind,
Do you want to be part of me,
Are you sure that you can really see.
Are you chained to a life that you dont want,
Is it hard for you to find a way out,
Can you live without the love that you need,
Are you sure that what you have is so real.
This is not for the weak of mind,
Are you sure that youre my kind,
Do you want to be part of me,
Are you sure that you can really see.
All of your life, they try to take your cover,
Turn you into another, and make you change your name.
When you fall, its up to you to recover,
You cant depend on another, to help you with the pain, yeah.
Im shaking off the chains, Im shaking off the chains.
This is not for the weak of mind,
Are you sure that youre my kind,
Do you want to be part of me,
Are you sure that you can really see.
In the night, you say that you are falling
People always calling, calling out your name.
What do you know, a face appears at the window,
Tapping on the window, the window of your soul.
Im shaking off the chains, Im tired of all the pain,
Im shaking off the chains, let me live again,
Shaking off the chains, shaking off the chains.

Running Man

There is time when you break down
There is time when you can't move on
Your feet are shaking
The pain is suffocating
And you are wondering 'is this the end? '

So who you want to impress anyway
So why you pretend to please anyone

Jump now, forget the how
As long as you still breathing
As long as your blood still trickling
Beat the crow, strike the arrow
Doesn't care when you will fall
Doesn't care where you will land
All you care is how you raise again

There is time when you are lost
There is time when you become hopeless
Your heart is wavering
The wind is blinding
And you bitterly smile 'is there another way? '

Cause you can't stand the lonely lonely night
Cause you can't ignore the shadow in those messy window

Run fast, brush the past
As long as your soul still calling
As long as your fire still burning
Hush the grass, crush the glass
No matter many tears you cry
No matter many sweat you dry
All you want is to reach the sky

My Sage Green Robe

I sit on my bed, and look across at my sage green towelling robe,
hanging on the back of the bedroom door.

Does he still 'fancy' me,
when I'm wearing it,
probably not,
it's not 'sexy', rather 'frumpy' really,
not at all an 'exciting' piece of clothing.

A dowdy bird,
dowdy and unheard!
I think that's me!

A 'new' me, must emerge from that robe.
A butterfly from a chrysalis,
A rose from a bud.

I think I need an overhaul, and a new 'robe',
like you see the 'famous' wearing,
in their 'penthouses'.
A glorious creation of satin and silk,
like flowing cream and milk.

Mind you, my towelling robe, hangs next to his towelling robe,
so perhaps we will do the same, and remain side by side,
and perhaps he loves me for other things than just being,
glamorous.

Hanging there, they look at peace with each other,
so I think I'll stick with my sage green towelling robe,
it cuddles me, just like he does!

In the Darkness

In the darkness
In the darkness I do now but live.
In the darkest hour I shiver.
And I do all but quiver.

In my dark corner I shake to bits.
Just shaking and shaking.
In the dark corner in the darkened room.
I sit alone and cry.

In my darkness Its my life.
Destined to be dark.
Taken over by depression.
And useless thoughts.

Everything went dark long ago.
Its not my time
Its not my life.
It dosent belong to me.
It belongs to the darkness of the night

Paper Thin Walls

These walls are paper thin and everyone hears every little sound
Everyones a voyeurist, theyre watching me watch them watch me right now
Theyre shaking hands, theyre shaking in their shoes, oh lord dont shake me down
Everyone wants to move them and half of everyone else moves around
Its been agreed the whole world stinks so no ones taking showers anymore
Laugh hard, its a long ways to the bank
I cant be blamed for nothing anymore
Its been a long time since youve been around
Laugh hard, its a long ways to the bank
Tow the line to tax the time you know that you dont owe
I cant be a fool for everyone that I dont know

Don't Let Go Chorus

What's it gonna be
Cuz i can't pretend
Don't you wanna be more than friends
Hold me tight and don't let go
Don't let go
Have the right to loose control
Don't let go
Verse 1:
I often tell myself
That we could be more than just friends
I know you think that if we move to soon
It would all end
I live in misery when you're not around
And i won't be satisfied 'till we're taking those vows
There'll be some lovemaking, heartbreaking, soul shaking
Oh, lovemaking, heartbreaking, soul shaking
(chorus)
Verse 2:
I often fantasize
The stars above are watching you
They know my heart and speak to yours
Like only lovers do
If i could wear your clothes
I'd pretend i was you and lose control
There'll be some lovemaking, heartbreaking, soul shaking
Oh lovemaking, heartbreaking, soul shaking, oh yeah
(chorus)
Bridge:
Running in and out my life has got me so confused
You gotta make the sacrifice
Somebody's got to choose
We can make it if we try for the sake of you and i
Together we can make it right
(chorus until fade)

Shaking Through

Could it be that one small voice doesnt count in the world?
Yellow like a geisha gown, denial all the way
Could this by three be turned? honor marches on.
Yellow like a geisha gown, denial all the way
Shaking through, opportune. shaking through, opportune.
Are we grown way too far?
Taking after rain
Yellow like a geisha gown, denial all the way
Shaking through, opportune. shaking through, opportune.
In my life.
Is that a steal?
Children of today on parade,
Yellow like a geisha gown, denial all the way
Shaking through, opportune. shaking through, opportune.
Shaking through, opportune. shaking through, opportune.

Dancing on butterfly wings

Dancing dancing,
swaying my hips.
You wish you could see
the butterfly tattoo
and kiss my lips.

I'll dance all night long,
and sing with the crowd
but when this night is done
i would don my shroud.

You see I'm that person
that can fly all day and night
never caught, cause even fragile i will fight.

I can have yellow black or even green
cause i only dance on butterfly wings.

You can reach out for me
with your in-snaring net
I will just dance away.
Cause you can surely bet,

I dance dance dance,
on butterfly wings.
Beauty sprouts from my back,
colors swirl down to my feet.

I dance and dance
all night long.
And I'll disappear in the winter
I'll come dance another night.

Shaking The Doll

Oh I wont be your pretty baby,
I wont eat from your hand again.
And the man in the white says its alright,
He says, come on girl give up the fight.
Youll go to sleep, there will be no pain.
Well I want to live with myself again.
Well, where we lived there was a lighthouse,
Throwing a white beam into our house,
Over my body when I was sleeping,
Over the secrets I was keeping,
I could tell myself there would be no pain,
But I have to live with myself again.
Im digging up, Im digging up,
Im digging up, Im digging up,
Im digging up, Im digging up,
Im digging in the earth.
Im looking for signs
And Im shaking the dolls
And the fairy-tales lied
And somewhere, back there
I didnt understand,
Man and woman and woman and man.
And Im shaking the dolls
Im shaking the dolls.
Oooh, the dream isnt coming through,
I cant feel for you.
Well somewhere, back there
I didnt understand,
Man and woman and woman and man,
And Im shaking the dolls
Im shaking the dolls.
Oooh I have to live with myself again,
Oohh I want to be with my body again,
Ooohyou cant make me hollow again.
Oooh, the dream isnt coming through
I cant feel for you.
Love, shooting up, through my veins,
I gotta get a hit again.

The Robe

'Behold the Man! ' and then decide...
The crowd then bid farewell,
To let God's Son be crucified,
As if His soul to sell...
The 'righteous' robe was gambled for,
As if a thing of worth,
While Christ above was aching sore,
The Saviour of the Earth...
Blood splattered here and scattered there,
From head and hands and feet
And soon descended dark despair,
As if the Devil's treat...
Yet in that darkness, faith still lived,
One sinner trusted Christ...
And thus received the Kingdom's gift
From Him whom God had prized...
The robe was won by casting lots...
At first, the winner smiled...
But when He saw Christ's crimson spots,
He felt himself defiled.
The guilt began that very day,
Indeed, that very hour...
And so his smile was wiped away,
His wretched soul turned sour.
If not for grace and God's great love,
His soul would stay depraved...
But God looked down from Heaven above
And helped him to be saved.
Think not that you don't need Christ, too...
Just pray the Sinner's Prayer...
Be glad that Jesus died for you...
Be glad that you weren't there...

Rich Mans Spiritual

Gonna but me a long white robe
Yes lord to help me home
Im gonna buy me a long white robe
Yes lord to get me home
And when I get my heavenly gown
And I lay my burden down
Im gonna get me a long white robe to get me home
Im gonna buy me two golden slippers
Yes lord to walk me home
Im gonna buy me two golden slippers
Yes lord to walk me home
And when I get my slippers of gold
Then the lord will have my soul
Im gonna get me two golden slippers to get me home
Im gonna buy me two wings of silver
Yes lord to fly me home
Im gonna buy me two wings of silver
Yes lord to fly me home
And when I get my silvery wings
Then an angel choir will sing
Im gonna get me two wings of silver to get me home
Im gonna buy me a poor mans trouble
Yes lord to help me home
Im gonna buy me a poor mans trouble
Yes lord to help me home
And when I get my trouble and woe
Then homeward I will go
Im gonna get a little trouble and woe to get me home
Im gonna find me a smilin angel
Yes lord to lead me home
Im gonna get me a smilin angel
Yes lord to lead me home
And when he takes me by the hand
I know the lord will understand

You Shook Me All Night Long

She was a fast machine
She kept her motor clean
She was the best damn woman i had ever seen
She had the sightless eyes
Telling me no lies
Knockin' me out with those american thighs
Taking more than her share
Had me fighting for air
She told me to come but i was already there
'cause the walls start shaking
The earth was quaking
My mind was aching
And we were making it and you -
Chorus:
Shook me all night long
Yeah you shook me all night long
Working double time
On the seduction line
She was one of a kind, she's just mine all mine
She wanted no applause
Just another course
Made a meal out of me and came back for more
Had to cool me down
To take another round
Now i'm back in the ring to take another swing
'cause the walls were shaking
The earth was quaking
My mind was aching
And we were making it and you -
Chorus
And knocked me out and then you
Shook me all night long
You had me shakin' and you
Shook me all night long
Yeah you shook me
Well you took me
You reall took me and you
Shook me all night long
Ooooh you
Shook me all night long
Yeah, yeah, you
Shook me all night long
Your really took me and you
Yeah you shook me, yeah you shook me
All night long

When comes the shaking man
A nation in his eyes
Striped with blood and emblazed tattoo
Streaking cathedral spire
They say
They say
They say
He has no brain
They say
He has no mood
They say
He was born again
They say
Look at him climb
They say jump
They say jump
They say
He has two gods
They say
He has no fear
They say
He has no eyes
They say
He has no mouth
They say hey thats really something
They feel he should get some time
I say he should watch his ass
My friend dont listen to the crowd
They say jump
They say jump
Watch out
Watch out
They say hey thats really something

The Guardian Angels

A Ballad

Father John in the green lane went
And he drew his robe full tight,
'I would,' quoth he, 'I were home again
For there's evil in the night.
'I would,' quoth he, 'the gold I bear
Were safe with the poor and old,
For strange the fear that follows me
That my eyes cannot behold.'
He looked him left and there he saw
A white rose climb and cling,
He looked him right and in the brake
A wild bird shook his wing.
He looked him back and far there stood
The old church tall and dim,
Yet on the lonely path there came
A terror strange to him.

Without the shadow of the trees
That bent above his way,
Where lost the moon her silver light,
He stood at last at bay.
And on his gown, from his pale brow
Fell great tears of his fright;
His shaking hands held close the gold
Wrapped in its cloth so white.
He knelt him down upon his knee
And prayed the Lord to hear,
'Christ, loosen Thou these laggard feet
That hold me slow in fear.
'Oh, strengthen Thou this childish heart
That trembles all afraid,
In pity for the calling sick
Who die without my aid.
'And let me bring all safely through
The shadows of the night,
The gold I bear for old and poor,
Still Thou this strange affright.'

And as he prayed from off his heart
Fear's clutching fingers fell,
A holy joy grew in his heart
He knew that all was well.
He turned him left and stayed to take
A white rose from her tree,
He turned him right and lilted low
A wild bird melody.
He looked him back and smiling saw
The tall church guarding him,
And then all fearless laughing sped
Through shadows strange and dim.

When but a year had passed away
There came before his gate,
A dying man who 'Succour,' cried
'Before it be too late.'
'Oh, shrive me, Father, ere I die,'
The moaning stranger said;
He took him to his own hearth side
And laid him on his bed.

'Oh, Father! Father! hear me now
And let me rest in peace.'
'Now speak, my son, and tell your sin
To give your soul release.'
'It was one night a year ago—
Sweet Mary, ease my pain—
I followed far your toiling feet
Within a lonely lane.
'The red gold for the old and poor
You had beneath your gown,
I hid within a darksome place
Where I could strike you down.'
Now Father John he smiled and leant
In pity by the bed,
'I did disarm you by my prayer,
I thank the Lord,' he said.
'I went in fear upon my path
I knew some danger lay,
And lone I knelt upon the road
A little while to pray.'

The dying man he raised his head
And laughed both long and loud,
'Oh, ne'er a prayer would hold my hand
Or keep you from your shroud.
'But by you went two mighty men
To guard you either side,
Else had my dagger reached your heart
And surely you had died.'
Then Father John upon his knees
Bent low his holy head,
'God's angels walked beside me there
Lest you my blood should shed
My guardian angels walked by me,
I thank Thee, Lord,' he said.

Again

There's been no sunlight
Since the day you said goodbye
Since the moment that my life
Turned into a masquerade
I can't even pretend to
Paste a smile across my face
All my dreams have been erased
There's nothing left to save me
Chorus:
And you
You're the only one can stop my sky from falling
You're the only one who's name I keep on calling
When everything is closing in
And you
You're the only one can stop this heart from aching
You're the only one who can stop me from shaking
And put me back together
Again
What I'd give just to wake up
And wipe your memory from my eyes
But I can't wish for bluer skies
I've never been quite so hopeless
Chorus:
And you
You're the only one can stop my sky from falling
You're the only one who's name I keep on calling
When everything is closing in
And you
You're the only one can stop this heart from aching
You're the only one who can stop me from shaking
And put me back together
Again
And if you stay away
I fear it will all be too much
And if you stay away
I'll be a man who's lost his touch
Chorus:
And you
You're the only one can stop my sky from falling
You're the only one who's name I keep on calling
When everything is closing in
And you
You're the only one can stop this heart from aching
You're the only one who can stop me from shaking
