Snow

The poor ducks paddle in the partially frozen pond.
Farmers’ fields are covered with thick snow beyond.
Bewildered sheep, keep warm in their thick woolly coats.
On toboggans, cheerful children slide down slippery slopes.

Insects and fallen fruit are suddenly nowhere to be found,
By birds and animals, who forage for food upon the ground.
Kindly householders throw out cake crumbs for the birds,
But among the mammals, murmurs of discontent are heard.

Everywhere in sight is decorated with a thick layer of snow;
The world all about, is now either at a stop, or on a go-slow.
Cars slowly wind their way down the narrow country lanes.
The day sees dozens of delays on the slowly running trains.

Delayed or cancelled, are the large fleets of local buses.
In this weather, the whole world crawls: it never rushes.
Drivers furiously scrape clean their frozen windscreens,
Impatient for this world of white to turn back into green.

To the joy of children, many primary schools have been shut;
Many deliveries to households and businesses have been cut.
People in tiny, remote villages are snowed in, and can’t get out.
Clearing the roads, an army of snow-ploughs are out and about.

The skeletal trees, at last, have got some winter decoration,
And are now looked upon with some degree of admiration.
The snow is thick, and will take many a day to disappear;
It will take a while till the road ahead is once again clear.

Snow Dancing

Frozen ground, frozen ponds,
Overgrown fields awaiting spring.
Snow dancing across the roads,
Snow too cold to melt
when it hits the ground.

To light to stay down,
blowing every which way.
Cars pass by disturbing the air
making the snow dance
on swirling currents of air.

Swirling up, down, all around,
spinning, wildly, round and round,
trying to get to the ground.
Almost bare roads covered
with swirls of snow.

Everywhere the flowing snow.
No cars pass by. Now, only the wind.
Wind still blowing the snow,
up, down, and all around,
dancing lively to the ground.

Strong Chill Of Winter

A strong chill of winter
has grasped this country,
the toll of its bitter cold
has the ground covered
in a blanket of thick snow

the fog is lingering over
the thick blanket of snow
dragging down the hope
that the snow is going
to go

in a desprete gaze
i looked out into
the haze of white
but i all i got to see
was the endless amount
of white

Song Of The Evergreens

Listen to the briskly whistling winter evergreen
Whispering through the frozen morning light
And tell me whats to come
Saying my time is near
Never fear
I close each year
Im winter
Reminding me to trade my t-shirts for my woven wools
Trade my sandals for my skis
Whispered warnings in the wind
Saying soon come the dancing snowflakes
Theyre kissing every tree
Theyre kissing you and me
Please hurry
Falling
Dazzling dancing diamonds from the sky
Prisms
Rainbow sparkled flurries in our eyes
Whipping across the frozen crystal meadow
Pond of ice
Race the snow
Well build a warming fire there
And cuddle close and wine and dine
The setting sun
The morning light will find us high
Shooting down the glistening mountain side
Screaming through the whispering pines
The freedom of each day
Will cleanse our minds
I can hardly wait for winter
I can hardly wait for the snow
I can hardly hardly wait for winter
I can hardly wait for the snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow
Snow snow snow snow snow snow snow snow

Snowed In By A Warm Fire

A visit to an Inn on top of a hill.
A view, a valley, a village, a pond.
Snow already covering the ground.
Snow falling steadily all around.

The hills, the trees, the branches,
The drives, the roads, the highways.
All are covered in new fallen snow.
All are silent as the snow falls.

Snowflakes large, silent, slowly falling.
Snowflakes drifting, covering the ground.
Snow falling steadily through the day;
Snow falling steadily through the night.

Soon ankle deep, then up to your knees;
Soon three feet covers all there is.
Snowed in. The highways are closed.
Snowed in, as I wait by the warm fire.

World of White

When I woke up this morning
My world was layered in white
So cold it was and very still
Snow had fallen through the night

No birds chirped a good morning
The bugs were hidden away
Instead was this harsh cold
I felt as though it would stay

I could barely see my lawn chair
For white had settled so thick
I wished I had seen it fall
This snow as it began to stick

The trees and bushes were
A fresh and lovely sight
Snow decorated the branches
Making winter look just right

We must enjoy the changes
So lovely and cold and bright
It will not last for long
This wonderful world of white!

Gods Little Forest Creatures

(10/01/11)

All that she knew was that it was a snowy day
And she was in a horse pulled sleigh
The blanket was covering her
From her knees to her feet.
The thermo of hot chocolate was such a treat.

The frozen lake, the snow covered trees
Was truly a sight to be seen.
the birds high up in the trees
Whistling so cheerfully

Singing songs of summers past
And how the winter came so fast.
The ground hog not wanting to come out
He knew well what winter was about.
The ground was covered in a blanket of white
All roads and paths were out of sight.
That did not stop this horse pulled sleigh
He had gone thru this many a day.
He had a covered barn that awaited him
That was the reason he had a grin.
The animals were frantically searching for food
The possums, the raccoons, the rabbits
And The squirrels too.
With one purpose in mind
And that was to stay alive.
As she got to where they were gathered
She pulled out from under her blanket
A five pound bag of peanuts and seed
for her to feed - these poor
Little creatures who always came around
When there was no food to be found.
She was the snow white of this land
Always there to give a hand.
So when you see a squirrel stop and stand
on its hind legs, it’s to see if it is their snow white
Who helped them on this cold winter night.

A Snowy Sunset

Snow Snow on the ground
Sun is sinking down down down
Trees trees covered in Wight
People gasp at the sight

Snow Snow on the ground
Animals scurry all around
Snow Snow in your hair
Stiffness and cold in the air

Snow Snow on the ground
People sledding down down down
Hot Coco and coffee inside
Why not go for another sled ride

Snow Snow on the ground
The sun has set past the ground
Lights light up the city bright
People every where say what a sight

905 THE PROMISED SNOW HAS COME (Monchielle)

A MONCHIELLE is a classical form of Poetry with the following prescriptions. It has five verses - each of five lines. Each line has six syllables and the first line in each verse is the same. Verse three must rhyme with verse five. It is an excellent form for a contemporary comment such as the current 'Snowbound' condition of the UK.

The promised snow has come
Forecasters said it would
But two things did not share
They did not tell us when
They did not tell us where.

The promised snow has come
To North - South - East and West
It came two weeks ago
It just won't go away
It's real Siberian snow!

The promised snow has come
And all the schools have closed
The children think that's nice.
The cars slide to and fro
The roads are thick with ice.

The promised snow has come
The sledges all are out
It's twelve degrees below
The Snowmen Rule KO
We've never seen such snow!

The promised snow has come
No one escapes the freeeeeeeeeeeeze
Solid lakes and rivers
Cars stuck in snow drifts - and............
We've all got the shivers! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

A Dot On White Sheet!

Green leaves of spring are not there;
Colourful flowers of all seasons are gone;
Only white snow covers all in winter!
Winter snow thick or thin is white sheet
That covers all colourful things long!

Scrubbing snow on the road is a daily exercise
To clear route for all vehicles to go smooth;
All covered with fur cloth move in the street;
This white snow is like a white sheet of paper;
All the movements on it are the dots of scribble!

Writers are hungry of white paper to write on;
Poets are fond of writing poems on white sheet;
And the matters on white paper are men on snow;
But nobody likes winter as all are for colourful life!

A Winter of Discontent

I remember a winter a few decades ago.
Where our dear England was covered in snow.
It started on Boxing Day with a blizzard from hell
then in the course of a week the snow just fell.
This once green paradise was now a shroud of white
and everyone was suffering from chillblains and frostbite.
Outdoor life was like an indoor fridge
where everything had frozen like a mountain ridge.
Abandon lorries on the side of the road
men were freezing even their load.
Villages cut off all over the land
so in came the troops to lend a hand.
This was the winter of discontent that lasted from
Christmas, and way past Lent.
As one lot of snow cleared, it would return again
to bring freezing cold tempretures and a lot of pain.
Wind would blow both night and day, and still the snow
never went away.Drifts of snow standing six foot high
just being topped up with snow from a winter sky.
So what of this winter of ice and snow
one that happened a few decades ago.
I remember it as one that was cold and wild
because in the summer God presented me
with my first born child.
In this year, where snow fell in December
it was the coldest winter I will ever remember.

The Snow

See the snow
Its a blanket, soft and white
Falling slow
Covering the world, making it bright

Hear the snow
Crunching underneath feet
Children throw
The snow in the street

Smell the snow
The freshening scent
As the steady flow
Makes my heart content

Feel the snow
Powdery, it freezes your toes
As the blanket starts to grow
And the cold wind blows

Taste the snow
The way it makes the world look clean
Still cold though,
Makes the world, a beautiful scene

Love the snow
When I see it snowing all day
I just know
That everything is going to be okay

Amazing Sights of Mt.Buller(near Aussie Melbourne))

As we reached the Horse Hill
amazing sights of snow-falls,
our searching eyes, filled.
The old and the kids
slide down in snowboards
on a small stretch of slopes.
Wonderful feasts of Nature
we enjoyed at Mt.Buller.
From the bottom of the snow-clad vale
I moved up in my snow walking boots.
In that awesome sunny day
my boots sank a bit in some places.
But the boys give the snow a good boot
catch the ice crystals and shoot them off.

Icicles hang from the roof-tops
of the restaurants, clinics and sheds.
On the branches of dead trees
snowy pythons are lying on them.
The children practise skiing
but the youths slide fast on the slopes,
swerve around and make ski-jumps off
on the thick layer of ice.
There was no bleak weather
to stop the old from sunning
by sitting on the icy terrain.

The skiers go to the top in ski-lifts
and skid down the hill in thrilling speed.
The skidded skiers are rushed to clinics.
The lovers get wet in the flakes of snow
by throwing handfuls of it on each other.
The cameras could take rest
only if the internal memory is full.
The sun glasses-wearing jolly fellows
walk over the snowline,
see the snow-capped peaks afar
and chase each other running on it.
Marvellous sights of parallel snowy roads
while climbing down were spectacles of beauty.

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since weve no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
Oh it doesnt show signs of stopping
And I bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
When we finally kiss goodnight
How I hate going out in the storm
But if you really hold me tight
All the way home Ill be warm
Oh the fire is slowly dying
And my dear were still good-bying
But as long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

A Snowy Day

I sense an unfamiliar brightness, and very soon, I'm awake.
I go to my window, which is covered with tiny snowflakes.
As far as the eye can see, there's a carpet of pure white:
It's a magnificent and beautiful, but still rather rare, sight.

People pull on their patterned, designer, Wellington boots;
Icy footprints in the snow, mark out the well trodden routes.
Children play in the snow and build a snowman;
They build him up as tall, as they possibly can.

Everything looks so very different when covered by snow;
Suddenly, you're not too sure where your feet should now go.
I love to walk through the parts, where snow is undisturbed;
Even though I now can no longer tell the road from the curb.

There is now a real lack of distinguishing features,
And a noticeable absence of warm-blooded creatures.
In the sunshine, the snow, like tiny diamonds, glints;
Its delicate surface now peppered with animal prints.

The coldness makes folks' cheeks all pink and rosy.
Most stay inside, where they are all nice and cosy.
Children on a sledge whiz down a long, steep hill;
They seem to know no fear and have nerves of steel.

Wheels on vehicles suddenly now slide and slip;
Road surfaces, they suddenly can no longer grip.
On busier routes, the snow soon turns to sludgy slush.
In this weather, not a single soul would dare to rush.

Some folk hope that, of the snow, there'll be no more,
And hope that this carpet of white, will, very soon, thaw.
When I look out of my bedroom window that same night,
I notice that the world around me still seems quite light.

Over the next couple of days, the snow turns to ice;
It now is all discoloured, and doesn't look so nice.
Finally, we have a whole day of really heavy rain,
And, of the snow, not a single flake now remains.

A Tale Of Winter

A Tale Of Winter
my wings of ice
flutter twice
the snow yet so white
my gleaming sun hovering at great height
silver birds gliding gently
icy snow flakes falling silently
my giant wings of frost
a frozen pond that once was lost
frozen plants shining in the sun
snow balls flying, oh what fun
a giant snowman standing in the wood
children playing like good friends should
a coal fire burning bright
a red robin about to take flight
my new sledge with only one splinter
i will never forget my beautiful tale of winter

The First Day of Snow

Snow, is a luxury
In our tropical world
Snow is a fable
Never saw, never touched, never smell

The first day of snow drifting onto a winter wonderland
The first time I felt it, on my face, around me
Boundless joy, wonder, ecstasies
Unreal, beautiful, white
A winter wonderland of ecstasies
Just for me

Silvery icicles, hanging off branches golden like the autumn days fading into winter
Silvery, like fairy tales
Pond of frozen winter clear, ducks swimming chasing their own tails
In ecstasies, in wonder, like a fairytale unfold

Snow, is a luxury
Unreal, beautiful, unbelievably soft
Boundless wonder, boundless joy
A magical world of snowy white
God’s glorious creation

A winter wonderland,
Beautiful beyond measure

A bottle of snow

The sky was grey
the ground was damp
all was cold
and on the grass
laid a bottle of snow

A thick brown sweeter
a thin leather glove
a pair of warm mittens
and a bottle of snow

I sat by the fireplace
a cup of chocolate beside me
and on the floor
laid a bottle of snow

The sky turned blue
the ground sprouted green
warmth was back
and in my hand
was a bottle of snow
