Katie: The Cocker Spaniel

With her caramel fur, and long, floppy ears,
Seeing Katie go for her walk, brings me cheer.
Away from her mistress, she excitedly bolts;
Over neighbour’s fences, she effortlessly vaults.

Sniffing around, here and there, she loves to explore;
Despite having travelled this path, many times before.
Whether she’s out on a sunny day, or in a force ten gale,
She’s guaranteed to be happy, and have a very waggy tail.

Still only a few years old, she appears to have endless energy.
There are so many things in life, for her curious eyes to see.
Full of the joys of spring, she rushes around all over the place;
If dogs could smile, then she’d definitely have one on her face!

Let off of her lead, she darts off, and is, very soon, gone,
But she returns to her strolling mistress, to beckon her on.
She really loves to go for her twice daily walks;
To other dog owners, her mistress often talks.

At some people, she jumps up, as them, she loves to greet,
But, by doing so, she leaves an impression of her muddy feet!
That she lives her life to the full, there isn’t a single doubt;
Barking joyously, she runs and jumps and dances about.

Of a snarling, butch, muscular looking dog, I am really scared,
But, the presence of a playful, Cocker Spaniel, I will happily bear.
They pass my house, each and every day, whatever the weather.
Over the coming years, they will share many great times together.

Full Of The Joys Of Spring

Today, I saw a little Dachshund, out and about;
That he was full of beans, I had very little doubt.
He was more than ready to play life's great game;
He was as playful and lively, as a flickering flame.

The little Dachshund almost bounced along;
His soul was excited, and his will was strong.
Determined to live that moment to the very full,
At his lead, the little chap strained and pulled.

The great outdoors, he was so very eager to explore;
Round each corner, he wondered what was in store.
I had no doubt that he was full of the joys of spring;
He would have almost taken off, if he'd had wings!

His endless energy seemed to know no bounds;
His senses soaked up all of life's sights and sounds.
The Dachshund may have been only small in height,
But watching his sheer vitality, was such a real delight.

I walked along, watching him for a short while;
Upon my lips, there spread a rather amused smile.
His mistress turned, and spotted my smiling face,
And she commented on her dog's very keen pace.

He may have been small, and only had little limbs,
But with the spirit of life, he was full to the brim.
I was on my way to work, and so I had to go;
So, I left him behind, with his mistress in tow.

All Hail My Dear Mistress I

My dear mistress
People comment on you
Even in my presence
Your love in me is hard to take away
People respect me
Because of you
Your succulent lips
Makes me go crazy
My dear mistress

Your love in me
Is like a precious seed planted
That is hard to uproot
My dear mistress

I am happy and sad
Because I fear for the future
That we missed out on each other
My dear mistress

Oh lord!
I wish you prepared her for me
To marry in future
I wish she mothered my future children
My dear mistress.

Field Full of Daisys

I sit in a green field
full of daisy's and ponder

And watch as they sway
In the midsummer sun

Does he love me?
I wonder...! ! !
I pluck a daisy

And start with
That old time saying of...

He loves me
He loves me not

A smile appears
On my face
Each time
I say
He loves me

I frown
Each time I
Pluck to those
Dreaded words
He loves me not

As each petal falls
It brings me to anticipation
Then the last one falls finally as I say...
He loves me

The extreme gladness
That envelopes me
Makes me smile with glee

Then everything around me
Just seems so grand to me
The tint of love that sheens my eyes
Just makes my world a magical place to be

Then there he walks
In front of me
And takes me in his arms
Kissing me deeply with love
He whispers
I love you from my heart

How Does It Feel

I know that youre out there
Knowing that theres someone out here thinkin of you
In your heart and in your mind
I know there is no doubt that someone loves you
And I know that you know
That Ill be waiting here when you have need of me
And when the world has chained you down
I know you know my love will set you free
How does it feel to know that someone loves you
How does it feel to know that someones always thinkin of you
Oh and how does it feel to know that someone puts no one above you
How does it feel to know that someone loves you, someone loves you
I have come to know and love you
Like Ive never known or loved another
Words have not been made
That could describe these feelings we have for each other
And I would go to any length
To let you know at all times that I care
cause I want you to know
That any time you reach for me youll find me there
How does it feel to know that someone loves you
How does it feel to know that someones always thinkin of you
Oh and how does it feel to know that someone puts no one above you
How does it feel to know that someone loves you, someone loves you
Someone loves you, how does it feel to know it
Someone loves you, how does it feel to know that someone
Loves you, someone loves you, how does it feel, how does it feel
How does it feel to know that someone loves you
Somebody loves you, how does it feel, how does it feel
How does it feel to know that someone loves you
Someone loves you, somebody loves you
Somebody loves you, how does it feel to know it
Somebody loves you

Daring JearBear

He’s not the average scared bear,
He’s a bear that really dares.
Dares to climb high into the sky,
up to his tree house as bees fly by.
Bees flying around his honeycomb,
Really close to his tree house home.
He swats them away with his big bear claw,
Then he goes into his house and has a gnaw.
He naws on his favorite bite,
It’s a hamburgers filled with dust mites.
Then he goes to cut some zzzz’s
Then he starts to dream,
of funny things like buzzing bees.
Then he feels a sting,
it’s a real bee stinging his knee.
He jumps up and makes a roar,
he runs out his tree house door.
Jumps down to the ground
and jumps in the lake,
he feels relief and has a great day.

The Choice

PLAGUE take the dull and dusty town,
Its paved and sordid mazes,
Now Spring has trimmed her pretty gown
With buttercups and daisies!

With half my heart I long to lie
Among the flowered grasses,
And hear the loving leaves that sigh
As their sweet Mistress passes.

Through picture-shows I make my way
While flower-crowned maids go maying,
And all the cultured things I say
That cultured folk are saying.

For I renounce Spring's darling face,
With may-bloom fresh upon it:
My Mistress lives in Grosvenor-place
And wears a Bond-street bonnet!

It takes three to make a family

(The Mistress or mother)
My son was a gift,
But his father didn't think so,
He left me alone,
With his son I mind you,
I was just a girl,
And he a man,
He did not care,
He left me bowed eyes and broken,
A Lord was he and I Mistress was I,
We were in two different worlds,
Seperated by our familes,
But our son not like us,
A son forced to see his parents like this,
I can still do te best for him,
His father is a monster not a man,
I am scared for my son,
What of his life?
No, I must do my best for him,
If I don't I'll let both of us down,
Years have past and now my son is a man,
I'm dying slowly,
I don't want my son to worry,
I know that I'm on my deathbed,
And I'm as king forJesus.
(Lord or father)
I did not leave her,
She left me,
I couldn't find her,
I wanted my son,
She didn't give him,
Now she's gone and my son with me,
My son's mother was my late wife,
I wanted them both,
But she sought me to be a demon,
Lies upon lies,
I was persuaded from my mother,
My wife listened to our converesation,
Many years later my son is married,
Now I'm going to meet my wife,
Together in heaven,
We have all eternity,
Jesus please keep our son.
(Son)
I am a man who loves,
Mom and dad didn't know,
I am the birth of their future,
They died without knowing me,
I am their son,
But all their time was fighting,
Mentally and emotional,
I spent my childhood afraid of them,
On a nevering chase against time,
My family will teach and give me love,
Years, many, many, years later,
I am a great grandfather,
Now and finally I am on my deathbed,
And I'm happy,
A tear has fallen out my eye,
I am now ready to reunite with,
Both my mother and father,
Jesus thank you for bringing,
The family together at last.

Max: The Terrier

As soon as the front door opens,
Max, the dog, dashes straight out;
He feels thrilled to be finally free,
And he happily frolics about.

Once he's out of the garden gate,
He bolts down the nearby alley.
He doesn't ever once look back,
And he doesn't ever dilly-dally.

Although it is cosy in the house,
He'd much rather be outdoors;
As there is nothing that he likes
Better than being able to explore.

He prides himself on being friendly
To any people that he may meet;
He rushes up to them, barking,
And runs circles round their feet.

He shares his home with a cat:
A green-eyed cat, whose fur is black;
Whenever Max's owner calls for him,
The cat rounds him up, and brings him back.

Of course, it is very often the case
That cats and dogs do not get along,
But these two are at ease together,
And their relationship seems strong.

Until Max's owner calls for him,
The cat leaves him a while to wander;
While he stretches himself out in the sun,
And, his day ahead, he will lazily ponder.

Max is a lively, wire-haired terrier
Of who I am really rather fond.
Now that he has explored the local area,
He is ready to explore the world beyond.

Mistress Eileen Green

A magical song plays
And Mistress Eileen Green dances wondrously
While making the children smile
And building up their spirits before sending them on their way

Fully dressed in purple and green
I stand by the side with my arms crossed
Behind this ninja mask no one can see me smile
I admire her for her spirit and of who she is

Mistress Eileen Green comes up to greet me
While holding a bell and a wooden stool in her arms
I gladly give her the time she wishes to converse with me
I admire her comments on my full regalia
And I talk and make her smile just the same
We hug each other for a wonderful meeting and welcome

Loves On The Line

Tell me baby
Have we lost everything that we had before
What do you do in the day
When I walk out the door
I can see you made up your mind
And I know our loves on the line
Loves on the line, our loves on the line
Loves on the line, our loves on the line
Loves on the line, our loves on the line
With each passing day
I gotta watch more and more what I say to you
I can feel your eyes looking through me
As I sit at the table at dinnertime
I can feel our loves on the line
Loves on the line, our loves on the line
Loves on the line, our loves on the line
Loves on the line, our loves on the line
I watch our kids
Growin up, going to school
Is there anything else for us now
Are we both just fools
Wasting our precious time
At night we lay in bed
But its like youre not even there
Theres something real bad
Going wrong somewhere
Last night I heard you cry
And I know our loves on the line
Loves on the line, our loves on the line
Loves on the line, our loves on the line
Loves on the line, our loves on the line
Loves on the line

You

Written by dan peek, 1974
Found on holiday.
You
Howd you ever get so cool
Your mother must have kept you out of school
You never learned the golden rule
You think youve got a reputation
You had a smile on your face too soon
Too bad you never learned the tune
Without me, who loves you now
You had a smile on your face too soon
Too bad you never learned the tune
Without me, who loves you now
Go to who loves you now
And tell em youre sorry
Dont need eyes to see you
No one else can tell you how
We were so close to you
There was not anything we wouldnt do
For you
Nobody loves you now
Nobody loves you now
Nobody loves you now
Nobody loves you now

This I By Experience Know (English Sonnet) (In Answer To Dorothy Parker)

This I by experience know,
that although to some love brings misery
or a severe kind of woe,
some people trod its path quite happily

and although at times I had been alone
in my later years,
I now have got the very one
who brings bliss and joy instead of tears.

Even if I had experience heartache before
now my life is merry and gay
even though a lady showed me the door,
another is at my side on this happy sunny day.

This I know that sometimes love brings happiness,
has something magical in every caress.

He Loves You

His love will conquer anger
His love defies all words
He hears all the prayers that are spoken
And all the prayers unheard

His love is unconditional
He loves you when your wrong
He loves you when you disobey
His love for you is strong

He loves you when you stumble
He loves you when you fall
He loves us so much more than words
He really loves us all

He loves you when you call His name
He loves you when you cry
He loves you when your down and out
For us He sent his Son to die

He loves you when you're laughing
He loves you when you smile
He loves it when you praise His name
He loves you, you're his child

His love is never ending
Until the end of time
And once you just embrace His love
Your life will be just fine

For He's got the best intentions
Look at The Son of Man
Be honored through the joy & pain
You're a big part of His plan.

This Is Me:

One says I have the heart an angel,
One says I have the heart of the devil,
Well,
I'm neither an angel, nor the devil,
I'm me.

A women,
A women who will believe in anyone who can believe in themselves,

Even believe in those who don't believe in themselves,
A women who loves all things,
Weather dark of light,
For as I know the world cannot cooperate without the other,
I hate the things that make me mad,
Like racism, bullying, age discrimination, being a women and not have full rights to everything, and watching people suffer and go throw hell right in front of my eyes,
A women who is strong as steel,
But has compassion and is full of love,
One who likes to get her way, but can allow others for there's, too,
This is me.

A women,
A women who loves pissing people off,
But a women who wants to comfort the sad,
A women who loves to give her heart out,
To where it on her sleeve so people can see,
But don't when they take advantage,
A women who likes to cuss like a sailor,
Yet who loves to sweet words,
This is the women I am,
This is me,
And how I am...

The empty evenings are the most difficult (in answer to Mandi Engelbrecht)

The empty evenings are the most difficult
when alone I write poems,
when I sometimes listen to Classic Fm
while I have got nothing to do,

the two old people
go to bed when darkness comes
and we say our prayers,

at times they insist
that I watch a religious DVD with them
and they talk about the news
and newspaper reports

but much too soon the evening is past
and the cocker spaniel
looks at me with her dark eyes

while the Persian cat goes outside to hunt,
and I read poems of some English friends
one after the other.

I am still searching for a job
which circles out wider,
almost away from me
while I spent my spare time

on what I can find in the library
on poetry of some great poets,
to teach myself techniques, methods, style,
and to find ideas

and it's as if the wide world
waits upon my new poems
and sometimes I mow the lawn,
and help here and there in the garden,

see the flock of sparrows,
weavers and doves coming near,
and I dare poems to repair my country,
my world, to tell people
who can make a difference

about the things happening here
and my days and nights are empty without you
but our relationship went to hell
by your own choice
and I have got a new mistress
whose name is poetry

and she is a whimsical lover
who serves others much better
before she visits me at night,
to share my pain, my sorrow and memories

and most of the time I try to know her better,
to know the rhythm, the methods of her existence,
to find that which makes her great

and one after the other my days pass,
while I wonder when things are going to change,
while I try day after day to survive

and I know that I cannot hold on to the past
and I know
that I can write almost any kind of poem
and still at times I wonder
what is happening far away in your world?

Happy Endings

Time does tell
That even if they say so
Shed be the one that would know
That I did do what Ive done
And i, I wouldnt call it cheating
Id just say I was leading her on
Why walk while I run a-way
You- you ask me what went wrong
Me- Ill write you this last song
Please- just tell me one way we can win
One- more thing before I go
Two- the one who loves me so
Three- dont make me count to three again
Happy endings
Just what did you do, if youre a dream then come true
Stop pretending
That what you mean isnt what you say
Hopeful dreaming,
Of times before the pain, wishing it was still the same
Loving, leaving
Round and round and round we go again
Walks a-lone, have often lead to thinking
My love for you is sinking to what seems an all time low
Or high, the limits never ending,
And dont you know Im sending
Theres no venture I wont go
For you
She walks away, she talks away
She walks away
She walks away, she talks away
Away, away...

Lakshmi in her silken veil

Lakshmi, in her silken veil
of modesty, walks unrecognised,
free as birds are free, around our world…

veiled in stillness; her lovely arms
bestowing, secretly, invisibly
her wealth;

her step so light, her being so, so still…
she passes you every day;
has never forgotten you;

so if you think she has neglected you –
consider, instead, her reasons:
she may be holding back to teach
(do you hear her laugh so lightly?)
pure grace, pure gratitude,
tomorrow, or the next day…
humility, she teaches, is the greatest wealth..

so disguised, she walks so freely through our life:
she loves to walk in markets, and the scents
and colours, tastes, of her wealth;

she loves to walk in fields, in Spring,
her arms as gentle, careful, generous,
as a sower casts the seed;

she walks in hospitals, loving care
distributed without a holding back;

she walks in schools, sits with the pupils,
bathing in the wealth of knowledge
that flows from spring to river to the ocean;
sometimes watches hand in hand
with her sister Saraswati;

she loves princes and their consorts
decked with jewels that all can wonder at;
she does not like dark treasure hoards
or locks, or keys; or those who think
her wealth is somehow, theirs…

and where she walks, a trail of golden dust
dances in the air; if you do not see her,
go to the temple where she loves to rest
among her own; for if you thank her there,
you’ll see her everywhere; say nothing,
smile; share her modesty, her generosity,
that only her own devotees understand:
those who love her wealth, but never for themselves…

this, this, is her beauty.
